    Hi,
Loss of the Oracle Cluster Registry file affects the availability of RAC and Cluster Ready Services.
The OCR file can be restored from a physical backup that is automatically created or from an export file that is manually created by using the ocrconfig tool.
Additionally, starting with Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2, Oracle can optionally mirror the OCR so that a single OCR device failure can be tolerated.

  • Adding ocrmirror and voting disk on another diskgroup 11gr2 RAC

    Hi Gurus,
Can i add ocrmirror on another diskgroup(external redundancy) and voting disk(normal) on anotherdiskgroup (replace) in 11gr2 RAC while databases are up and running?

    Hi
in Oracle 11gr2 voting disk are backed up automatically in the ocr part of any configuration change
Voting disk is automatically restored to any added voting disk
You can migrate voting fıska from non asm to asm without
    Taking download cluster
To add a voting disk to asm
    Crsctl replace votedisk +diskgroup
    Ocrconfig -add +datagroup2
Oracle manage up to five redundant ocr locations
    Hope this helps

    Archiving online redo logfile /home/backup/oradata/ld/redo2b.log
WARNING: Archival will be performed using 2 passes.
The first pass will attempt to determine the end-of-file
of the online redo logfile. The end-of-file is determined
by identifying what is described as a "corrupt" block
header. This will be reported as an ORA-00354 error.
However, this is not really a corrupt block - it is the
    end of the redo data.
The second pass will then archive the online redo logfile
    using the identified end-of-file information.

  • Difficulties installing oracle xe under Ubuntu

    Here's what I did:
    1) added this to /etc/apt/sources.list: deb http://oss.oracle.com/debian unstable main non-free
    2) ran: wget http://oss.oracle.com/el4/RPM-GPG-KEY-oracle -O- | sudo apt-key add -
    3) ran: sudo apt-get update
    4) via the Synaptic package manager, clicked on "oracle xe". This package was installed along with libaio.
    5) checked my applications menu and saw that oracle had appeared.
    6) ran: sudo /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure (I changed the port for Oracle Application Express to 9090 so it wouldn't conflict with Tomcat, which uses port 8080. I indicated that I didn't want the database server to launch on boot. I was planning launching as needed from the applications menu).
Now I thought that I was ready to go. So I went to the applications menu and selected start database. A terminal window popped up warning me that I wasn't a member of the dba group. I added myself to the dba group. I restarted my computer and tried starting the database once again from the applications menu.
This time no warning terminal came up. Basically I didn't get any feedback as to whether the database server was actually running. So I tried accessing:
http://127.0.0.1:9090/apex. I was told the browser couldn't establish a connection with the database. I selected "run sql from the command line" from the applications menu. This didnt' work either. The terminal window that came up began like this:

You are trying to install on an unsupported o/s.
My recommendation would be to download Oracle Enterprise Linux and then follow the installation instructions provided by Oracle.
PS: There is a dedicated XE forum here at OTN. You will likely get more responsive answers if you post there in the future.

  • Difficulties installing oracle xe under Ubuntu (7.10)

I laid out the difficulties I was having in the Installation forum, and a responder said I would have better luck getting a response in this forum.
    Here's what I did:

  • Migration of Storage

    Hi Gurus,
We are running application on Oracle 10g RAC with ASM storage (NETAPPS) on IBM machine with Windows 2003 64-bit OS. Planning to upgrade the storage, note that the new storage is EMC.
Please kindly help me with moving the database from one storage to other storage.
As per my knowledge below are steps to perform while moving the data files, please clarify or help me accordingly if the steps are not correct.
    1) Create DISK Group with NEW Storage ( Can we have different storage for DISK GROUPS???)
    2) Mount the Database
    3) COPY the DATAFILES using RMAN COPY command to new DISK Group.
    4) Switch Datafile to COPY
    5) RECOVER Database
    6) DELETE old Datafile copy.
    7) Open the database.
Are the above steps are correct for migrating data files???????
Also, please guide me to migrate OCR and Voting Disks to the new storage??????

Though your steps are possible but I would do another method if you want to keep the current diskgroup
    1. prepare disks on new storage with same size with current storage disks
    2. add new disks from new storage to existing diskgroup
    SQL >alter diskgroup <diskgroup name> add disk
    ‘<new disk on new storage>’ rebalance power 10;
    3. wait until the rebalance operation completes, check from v$asm_operation
    4. delete old disks from old storage
SQL > alter diskgroup <diskgroup name> drop disk
    <old disk> rebalance power 10;
    5. see step 3
    6. now move the ocr
    # > ocrconfig -replace ocr <new disk>
    # > ocrconfig -replace ocrmirror <new disk>
    7. now move votingdisks
    # > crsctl delete css votedisk <OLD_DISK> –force
    # > crsctl add css votedisk <NEW_DISK> –force
    Hope this helps

  • RAC does not start after trying to move storage

    Hello,
We have a two nodes RAC Oracle 10g and ASM groups defined on one external storage.
RAC does not start after we reformated the storage to RAID 10.
    What we did:
    1) deleted the database
    2) reformated the external storage to RAID 10 and defined needed volumes for OCR, VotingDisk and ASM
    3) on both nodes
    - recreated VotingDisk
    node1:root$ /u01/oracle/product/10gr2/crs/bin/crsctl add css votedisk /dev/rdsk/c0t600A0B8000347E7D00000EE74A5AF386d0s3 -force
    Now formatting voting disk: /dev/rdsk/c0t600A0B8000347E7D00000EE74A5AF386d0s3
    successful addition of votedisk /dev/rdsk/c0t600A0B8000347E7D00000EE74A5AF386d0s3.
    node2:root$ /u01/oracle/product/10gr2/crs/bin/crsctl add css votedisk /dev/rdsk/c0t600A0B8000347E7D00000EE74A5AF386d0s3 -force
    Now formatting voting disk: /dev/rdsk/c0t600A0B8000347E7D00000EE74A5AF386d0s3
    successful addition of votedisk /dev/rdsk/c0t600A0B8000347E7D00000EE74A5AF386d0s3.
    - tried to move OCR but was able only on one node:
    /u01/oracle/product/10gr2/crs/bin/ocrconfig -replace ocrmirror /dev/rdsk/c7t30d0s3
    /u01/oracle/product/10gr2/crs/bin/ocrconfig -replace ocr /dev/rdsk/c7t29d0s3
    /u01/oracle/product/10gr2/crs/bin/ocrconfig -replace ocr
These return ok for both node1 and node2:
    node1:oracle$ cluvfy stage -post hwos -n node1
node1:oracle$ cluvfy stage -post crsinst -n node1,node2 -verbose

  • Voting disk issue in Windows 2003 server

I installed oracle RAC 10g with ASM on windows server 2003 R2. I was able to successfully install clusterware as well as ASM with database. Prior to the install, I ran diskpart and then set automount enable. I was able to configure the ocr, ocrmirror and votedisk without any problem. After completion of the installation and then restarting both the nodes, looking at the Disk Management from the Computer Management, my first node is showing the partition for votedisk as raw disk but on the second node, I am seeing drive letters configured for the votedisks. I ran crsctl query css votedisk on both the nodes and both the nodes are pointing to the same location, \\.\votedsk1, \\.\votedsk2 and \\.\votedsk3.
Now my question is why am I seeing the drive letter(s) (G:) for the drives that were configured to votedsk from the second node and not seeing the drive letters from the first node?
Can I change the drive letter that were configured for voting disks from the second node?
I did take a backup of the votedsk using ocopy, but can this be a valid backup if I clear the drive letter on second node and then restore from the backup? I appreciate any help to correct this problem. Thanks

I can perform delete and add another voting disk, But what about the drive letter that is showing on the second node and not on the first? Do I need to remove the drive letter showing on node 2 while the voting disk is still showing up prior to performing the delete and add of another voting disk? Thanks for your help.

  • Help needed : How to move OCR and Voting Disk

    Hi all experts...
I am Mahesh. Working in DXB as DBA. We have serveral RAC installed clients. Among those one major client wants their OCR and Voting Disk to be moved from existing SAN to a new SAN which will be configured. Only OCR and Voting Disks needs to be moved.
    Details:
    =====
Oracle Clusterware,ASM and DB version 10.2.0.3.0
    Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition
    2-Node RAC
OCR and Voting disks are on RAW devices (not on CFS or NFS)
I have read the clusterware administration document and also Metalink Note 428681.1 for the same.
But it does not contain information how to move it to another new RAW in a new SAN device. (we need to keep it in raw device itself)
How to identify the new disk path from windows operating system ? Then only we can move the OCR and VD right ???
Help me for the same please...
    Thanks & regards,
    Mahesh.

    Hi Mashes,
Could you list out the steps you did after you create the link on the new SAN using GUIObjectManager.exe?
I tried on my VM and also in customer's test environment but I only successful using the following steps
    1. shutdown asm service, database service, listener service, CRS, EVM and CSS
    2. Object Manager Service is kept running
    3. from both nodes I issued the following command
    ocrconfig -repair \\.\OCRPRIMARY
    ocrconfig -repair \\.\OCRMIRROR
    4. according to metalink id 428681.1, I should do the following
    ocrconfig -overwrite
However I was not successful because that command returns an error message (PROT-1: Failed to initialize ocr config).
Therefore, I ran the following command
    ocrconfig -restore D:\oracle\1020\CRS\cdata\crs\backup00.ocr
    5. after that command, ocrcheck giving me the result and the ocr primary and mirror have been moved to the new partition.
    6. start the whole services starting from CSS, EVM, CRS, ASM, Listerner and Database service.
Although what I experienced seems a bit weird and not the same as what was written in metalink, the RAC is running fine until now.
What I would like to know is your experience on this. May be you can share it here.
    Thank you,
    Adhika

  • Slow query return when using TAOD

My colleague always use TAOD to run query. ( I tried hard to tell them not, believe me). Even I tuned one of their queries and the return became very fast in the SQLplus mode, the return in the TOAD window was still slow, 10 seconds vs 56 seconds. I wonder what reason that makes the return passing to TOAD slow. Some tuning of Oracle Net or it is on the TOAD side? It occurred when passing to Crystal Report. Any suggestion.

OK, I had applied both statistic optimizations on Dev box Oracle 10g (AIX), and asked my client to use her TAOD, it seemed faster. But I noticed that under the udump, the system generated a trc file with such content.

    Can any one help-me??

You can have a look at other web applications in /webapps to see how correctly structured look like.
You can also read this (very old) but still informative post.
From what you say, it seems you have several challenges:
    * web-inf is in lower case instead of uppercase
    * the web application is named "uk" and not "demo-examples"
Have you tried with http://localhost:1020/uk/HelloWorld ?

  • Ocrcheck shows Device/File not configured

    Hi All,
I'm new to RAC administration. I just found this command and try to run in my system and this is the output.
    ./ocrcheck
Status of Oracle Cluster Registry is as follows :
    Version : 2
    Total space (kbytes) : 262120
    Used space (kbytes) : 8236
    Available space (kbytes) : 253884
    ID : 979000182
    Device/File Name : /u08/quorum/Quorum
    Device/File integrity check succeeded
    Device/File not configured
    Cluster registry integrity check succeeded
What might have been wrong with the setup?
    I am using 10gR2 and Oracle Cluster file system 2 (ocfs2): ocfs2-2.6.9-42.ELsmp-1.2.4-2.x86_64
running in 2.6.9-24-ELsmp RHEL4 AS OS.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jay A

    oh ! sorry
if you use Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition - Version: 10.2.0.3
metalink Doc ID:     467216.1 Version: 10.2.0.3
This problem can occur on any platform.
    # ocrconfig -replace ocr /dev/raw/raw4
    PROT-1: Failed to initialize ocrconfig
    ocrcheck
Status of Oracle Cluster Registry is as follows :
    Version : 2
    Total space (kbytes) : 293640
    Used space (kbytes) : 4596
    Available space (kbytes) : 289044
    ID : 136413798
    Device/File Name : /dev/raw/raw1
    Device/File integrity check succeeded
    Device/File not configured
Cluster registry integrity check succeeded Cause:
ocrconfig -replace can't be used to replace the only online OCR disk
As only 1 active OCR is available, -replace will not work.Solution:
    1. Add a mirror:
    #ocrconfig -replace ocrmirror /dev/raw/raw5
    2. Replace the OCR:
    #ocrconfig -replace ocr /dev/raw/raw4
    3. Remove the mirror /dev/raw/raw5
    #ocrconfig -replace ocrmirror
