OCS 2007 to Lync 2013 migration approach & steps
Hi,
I am looking for migration approach from OCS 2007 (not OCS 2007 r2) to Lync 2013 for 4000 users. as per the MS technet its not supported. has anyone tried and tested if yes please provide the steps and risk involved. thanks
Hi Nmits,
Since it is not supported to migration from OCS 2007 to Lync server 2013 directly, you have two ways to complete the migration process:
Migration from OCS 2007 to OCS 2007 R2 first, then migration from OCS 2007 R2 to Lync server 2013.
Migration from OCS 2007 to Lync server 2010 first, then migration from Lync server 2010 to Lync server 2013.
Migration from OCS 2007 to OCS 2007 R2:

Hi All,
Need help - we are planning to migrate around 14000 ~ 16000 users from OCS 2007 R2 to Lync 2013 environment -
issues are - the new Lync 2013 environment will be in a new forest and sip address will not change.
Considering the same - I understand we don't have any option other than going for a cut-over.
please help me to understand how can I move the user's contact and other configurations from OCS 2007 R2 to Lync 2013.
Thanking you
MazHi,
It is indeed a clean cut over. BIG BANG.
You export all users from your OCS environment. All scheduled live meetings will need to be rescheduled because Lync Server 2013 doesn't support Live Meetings anymore.
I would export, convert and import all users like this:
Dbimpexp.exe /hrxmlfile:"C:\Logs\Lync2010data.xml" /sqlserver:Sql.contoso.com\rtc
Convert-CsUserData -InputFile "C:\Logs\Lync2010data.xml" -OutputFile "C:\Logs\Lync2013Data.Zip" -TargetVersion Current
Import-CsUserData -PoolFqdn "atl-cs-001.litwareinc.com" -FileName "C:\Logs\Lync2013Data.Zip"
Don't use Import-CsUserData twice, but use Update-CsUserData the second time if needed.
Have fun! -
How to remove OCS and install lync 2013 on MS Office 2007 and 2010
Hi,
We need to install lync 2013 on our systems having office 2007 and 2010 via SCCM 2012.
Please suggest.
Regards, Syed Fahad AliLync 2013 no longer has its own installer, but instead uses the Office installer. You can create a customized installation and deploy it just like you do with Office:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204827.aspx
I hope that helps,

Lync 2013 migration from Lync 2010
Hi All,
I have a problem after I've successfully migrated our Lync environment from Lync 2010 (what was migrated from OCS 2008 R2) to Lync 2013.
When I would like to delete the old Lync 2010 Front End server from the topology I cannot do that, because there are some TrustedApplicationPool registered to that. And I cannot delete this unused TrustedApplicationPools, because I got the following error:
"Remove-CsTrustedApplicationPool : Cannot remove legacy trusted application pool. Use the legacy tools to remove the pool, then run Merge-CsTopology."
I've tried that many ways, I've tried the merging etc. but it was unsuccessful. Has anybody any idea, step-by-step or something what can helpful to me?
Many thanks,
Tamás DobosHi,

Topology Merge Failing between OCS 2007 and Lync 2010
A brief about the issue. I read
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg412949.aspx which tells to run
Set-CsSipDomain -Identity fabrikam.com -IsDefault $True to make additional domain as default domain.
Want to know the exact procedures before I need to follow without affecting the existing set up before merging the topology again.
We have OCS 2007 in production where abc.company.com is primary sip domain and company.com is additional sip domain.
Recently installed Lync 2010 with primary sip domain as company.com and abc.company.com as additional sip domain.
Tried to merge both the topology after installing CU and OCS backward compatibility tool on Lync 2010 and it ended up with below error.
System.Management.Automation.CmdletInvocationException: The value of default domain in “Office Communications Server 2007” / “Office Communications Server 2007 R2” is “abc.company.com”. The value of default domain in Lync Server 2010
is “Company.com”. These values need to be equal before you continue merging the topology.Run on the Lync Front End
Set-CsSipDomain -Identity abc.company.com -IsDefault $True
This won't impact any existing users on Lync tied to company.com sip address space.
Then launch the Lync Topology builder again, you should see the updated default SIP domain.
Run the OCS Merge again, after decommissioning OCS switch the primary domain back to company.com (if you switch the sip domain prior to decommission and need to run merge again, you'll have to set-cssipdomain)

2007 SP3 to 2013 Migration - Public Folders Migration (-2147467259)
Hi Guys
I'm currently undertaking an Exchange 2007 SP3 to Exchange 2013 migration, and all has been going swimmingly so far. We've moved all mailboxes across and are at the final stages and just want to move the public folders across.
I've been following the instructions in: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150486(v=exchg.150).aspx this article, and we have gotten up to stage 5 (Start
the Migration Request). The process gets around 20% of the way through, and from what we can tell seems to migrate all content from PF folders, however it then stops. I've posted an extract of the log below, which should show you the error we're
currently getting (it tries then exhausts retries & stops).

I've attempted to find some solutions, and searching for the respective error codes has suggested a couple of ideas, such as not being a PF Admin (checked), resource issues on source/destination servers (checked, and restarted for good measure), I saw mention
of a problem with NETBIOS resolution so added the source server into the host files (checked).
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Lync 2010 to Lync 2013 migration - Dialin conferencing
While migrating from Lync 2010 to Lync 2013, i have stopped all services on the Lync 2010 servers to make sure all is okay and everything is working fine with Lync 2013.
Nevertheless, when someone on Lync 2013 schedule a meeting, and someone dial one of the PSTN Dialin conference number and enter the conference ID, this scenario is not working.
If i start the Lync 2010 front end services, then the previous scenario works.
So i did something else. I have scheduled a meeting and i change the meeting options to get a new conference ID. this makes the conference work over dial in pst number while Lync 2010 services are down.
This means:
- When someone (Lync 2013 user) schedule a meeting, the default conference ID that is generated, requires the existence of Lync 2010 services for a PSTN Dial in user to connect
-When someone (Lync 2013 user) schedule a meeting and change the meeting options to get a new conference ID, then the PSTN Dial in user can connect even if all Lync 2010 services are down.
Any clue?
ammarhasayeni have found it. moving the conference directories from Lync 2010 to Lync 2013 solves the whole thing.

OCS 2007 R2 to )365 migration
I've Exchange 2007 & OCS R2 deployed in On-Prem, and we planning to moved to O365 and de-commission our Exch & OCS R2. My question once we moved O365, the users who are using OCS how can they access Online lync once we de-commission our OCS and clean
up our local AD. What happens to their Lync attributes? Do we still need lync in on-premise or O365 Lync is enough for voice integration features?
Thanks

Lync 2013 does not show normalized numbers in the client contact card.
Hi,
We are migrating from OCS 2007 to Lync 2013. Everything runs now in side by side topology.
I have problems with contacts numbers shown in the Lync client.
I've moved "Company_Phone_Number_Normalization_Rules.txt" file from OCS server to Lync. All rules works fine there, after running update-csaddressbook , Invalid_AD_Phone_Numbers.txt file is empty (no errors).
We are using this format in AD for users: (613) 123-4567 Xdddd
Normalization rule is:
(\s*)\(?\s*(613)\s*\)?[\s()\-\./]*(123)[\s()\-\./]*(4567)[,\s\w]*(\d\d\d\d)
+$5
So it will normalize phone (613) 123-4567 X5656 to +5656 (We need it this way because we are using phone control)
Problem is that this normalized phone does not shown in Lync client, but it perfectly works in old OCS environment.
Thank you!Hi,
I've replaced my old rule with one that you wrote, and it works as it should (ABServer.exe -testphonenorm
recognize it in the right way). Thank you for this advice!
Then I run update-csaddressbook, removed .db and .idx files from user, re-lunched Lync client..but this number still not shown.
Here are results of Get-CsAddressBookConfiguration
Identity : Global
RunTimeOfDay : 1:30 AM
KeepDuration : 30
SynchronizePollingInterval : 00:05:00
MaxDeltaFileSizePercentage : 20
UseNormalizationRules : True
IgnoreGenericRules : False
EnableFileGeneration : True
MaxFileShareThreadCount : 300
EnablePhotoSearch : True
It looks strange, number can be normalized, but it's not shown for the user. -
Hi
We are rolling out Lync 2013 across our org to many remote sites and are wondering the best approach for this.
We hope to leverage our SCCM, but so far we've only been installing Lync manually in our local test group.
I noticed that when installing Lync, it doesn't remove Communicator, Live Meeting, or the Live Meeting plugin for Outlook though.
Ideally, we would want to be able to push Lync 2013 client (standalone version, not Office 2013 Suite) via SCCM as well as uninstall Communicator 2007 R2, Live Meeting 2007 and Conferencing Add-in for Microsoft Office Outlook, all silently. Whether this
can be done while the user is logged in and using Outlook/Communicator, I am unsure (probably not), so doing this overnight with users logged off but machines on would probably work best.
Is there any documentation / guides from MS or other blog sites that have gone through this same process? From the searching I've done, it doesn't seem to be too common for a large deployment / jump from OCS 2007 to Lync 2013 on-premise.Hi,
refer to this article it might help

Upgrade 2003 R2 Domain Schema containing OCS 2007 R2 to 2012 R2 schema
Hi all,
I'm planing to upgrade my 2003 R2 forest to 2012 R2 schema version. I have OCS 2007 R2 and Exchange 2010 SP3 installed in the forest. I think there will be no issue for exchange after upgrade, but i'm worring about OCS 2007 R2.
Can experts provide me more details about upgrade domain containig OCS 2007 R2 to Directory Service 2012 R2 ?
Many thanks.
Mustapha.
Mustapha EL HACHIMIThanks,
But, the article doesn't mention compatibility with 2012 r2.
I did a test in a lab. It shows that ocs 2007 R2 is not supported in 2012 R2 AD.
So before you upgrade your forest to 2012 R2, upgrade OCS 2007 to LYNC 2013 and then remove OCS from the forest.
Microsoft says not supporting OCS 2007 in a domain 2012 R2 and also you can't install OCS 2007 in a 2012 R2 server.
Hope this can everybody planning to upgrade ad containing OCS to 2012 R2.
Best regards

OCS Migration to Lync 2013 Delegate which Director that authenticates
Hello - I am in the middle of a migration from OCS 07 to Lync 2013. Everything is working pretty well. I have a new Lync Server with some users migrated over to it already and communication is fine between the Lync Desktop Clients and the OCS Desktop Clients.
We now want to use the Mobile Lync Client so I have installed Lync 2013 Client on my iPhone 5S. I was able to install the root cert on the phone however, when I try to sign in, I am getting the following error:
"We can't sign you in because your organization doesn't support this version of Lync. Please install Lync 2010 from your mobile store."
I am running Lync 2013 Standard Edition and I am running Lync 2013 Client for iOS. I can only assume that because the OCS director is still running it is handling authentication and its not compatible with Lync 2013. Is this a correct assumption?
That being said, and if that's indeed the issue, is there a way to delegate the Lync 2013 Director to take over authentication?
Thank you!
Russ, MCSEHi there,
Lync 2013 Mobile clients relies on UCWA services to connect to Lync server 2013 services, also Lync mobile autodiscovery depends on Lync web services publishing. Therefore you should make sure that lyncdiscover.sipdomain and lyncdiscoverinternal.sipdomain
points to Lync server 2013 web services and not OCS 2007.
specifically Lyncdiscover.sipdomain should point to the public IP address on which the Lync External WebServices are published.
so it is quite sure that if the above requirements are not met and especially the DNS configuration for Lyncdiscover and lyncdiscoverinternal mobile clients will not be able to connect.

Charbel Hanna

Lync 2013 standard deployment: Exchange 2010 Sharepoint 2010 and outlook 2007 collaboration
HI
I have Exchange 2010 and sharepoint 2010 with all our user using outlook 2007. what options do I have for collaborations between these systems if I was to install Lync 2013. I have seen posts that mention that you cannot use outlook 2007 and lync 2013 and
that you would be better off installing the lync 2010 client?
1. would we be covered from a licensing point of view if we had bought lync 2013 cals but install the lync 2010 software on desktops?
2. what Cals do we require for presence to be available in SharePoint we currently have standard sharepoint cals?
3. what new features will we loose if we install 2010 lync software.
4. if our mobile users use the 2013 lync software will these be able to communicate with the 2010 users?
thanks
JHi,
If you use Lync 2013 client with Outlook, multiple functions will not be achieved, such as: customize Outlook meeting invitations (add logo, help URL, disclaimer, footer text), in Outlook, configure meeting option to mute attendee audio and video by default,
presence status in the Microsoft Outlook To and Cc fields, and so on. As Lync 2013 is the part of Office 2013, the best choice is using Outlook 2013.

Lync 2013 Contact Troubleshooting - Searching contacts & Adding Contacts to Contact Lists
Running into some interesting issues with a new Lync 2013 deployment that I am having some problems finding troubleshooting steps and resolution for.
Topology
Lync 2013 installed in a very straight forward single-server, standard environment.
Active Directory on Windows 2012, functional level is 2003
Exchange in the environment is 2007
Testing Lync 2013 client on Windows 8
Windows 8 computer is NOT on the domain, but is on the same LAN
Windows 8 computer Outlook account is NOT configured for that Exchange server
Currently just testing functionality of searching for users and adding them to the client contact list. After reading through countless threads, I have run the local registry update to download address book on startup of Lync client on Windows 8, run
the update-csaddressbook and update-csuserdatabase with no errors.
What I am running into is when I search for a user through the client, I get proper results showing the user i was searching for, however, they show no presence and cannot be added to the contact list, giving the error "Cannot add, remove or move contacts
or groups at this time, please try again later"
(apparently running into issues uploading images)
However, if I search for sip:[email protected], presence shows up, I can add the user to the contact list and communicate with them no problem.
What would be the next steps for troubleshooting?Hi,Justin,
Are these users newly created? If so please wait for 24 hours to have a test.
Also please check event viewer on Domain controller to check AD replication and synchronization are completed.
Besides, you can enable Lync server logging and client logging to get more specific information to see what happens to the address book service.
Regards,
Sharon
