OCS on RedHat 3

Can someone post a "howto" on how to install OCS Release 2 on RedHat Entreprise Linux 3 ? Since we only have the evaluation copy of OCS, we can't access metalink to obtain this information.

But it would be quite difficult without Metalink access.
If you had access the Metalink Note:259433.1 it would useful for you.
Some extents:
1. Deploy (or check) following packages on RH AS.
- ORBIT-0.5.17-10.4.i386.rpm
- libpng10-1.0.13-8.i386.rpm
- gnome-libs-1.4.1.2.90-34.1.i386.rpm
If you managed to deploy OCS components you would deploy
OCS Patchset (9.0.4.2.0) too.

Install OCS R2 on something other than Redhat AS 2.1?

I have a test environment I want to set up for OCS Release 2 9.0.4.1, but I'd like to do it on something other than Redhat Advanced Server 2.1. I saw a Note or something on Metalink a couple of days ago on how to trick runInstaller into thinking the OS is Redhat AS, but tonight when looking for this document I cannot find it.
Does anybody know how to do this? I'm downloading a developer edition of UnitedLinux right now, but I'm really interested in attempting to install the single-box install on Mandrake 9.1. One reason because I'm more familiar with that distribution, and also because I'm curious to see if it will work.

I've done it on red hat 7.3 - no issues besides relinking for the ias components.
runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
Can't rememeber the case, but if you run the runInstaller and pass an option or perhaps -? or -help it will show you a whole bunch of options.

Problems installing OCS infra 9.0.3 on redhat linux 7.3 or 8.0

Hi,
every time i try to run linux_marconi_10_infra installation, when installer checks for Pre-requisities, it says that "at least 256MB RAM needed for installation..." and forwards to previous screen.
system has 256Mb RAM, we even tried 512Mb RAM but message left the same all the time.
is any method to disable this memory check?

I have tried installing ASE 16 on RED HAT 6.5, but install failed several times, attached error message.

Server " LOCALHOST_JSAGENT" was not created.
Failed to configure NEW JOB SCHEDULER
Kindly advise

isql is a 32-bit application. Make sure you have the 32-bit and 64-bit glibc and compat-glibc packages installed.
There is also a 64-bit version of isql (isql64) and bcp (bcp64), but I know this does not help with the initial installation.

Maximum no of users supported by OCS 10.1.2 in a single box installation ?

Hi OCS experts,
What is the maximum number of users supported by OCS 10.1.2 in a single box installation for a 6 way Intel box or a 12way AIX box.???
I mean if the server hardware (processor, memory, and storage are huge enough)...
Are there any limits by the software side of OCS ???
I am planning to deploy OCS for about 15,000 users on Redhat Linux AS 4. We also have the option to deploy it on AIX if required.

Many thanks. But as OCS 10.1.2 documentation indicates upto 1,000 users for single server installation. So I wanted to know if there is any practical limit by the OCS software itself on the number of users in single server deployment on Linux.
Like for instance IBM indicates that domino 7 can now go upto 12,000 users in a single box.
Is there any similar recommendation from Oracle to ease in capacity planning decisions for Architects and Implementers.???
I understand that it would be a very difficult prediction keeping in mind the huge functionality of OCS. So let me narrow the scope of our deployment, In the beginning we would using OCS mostly for Email (15,000 users) and about 2000 of these users would also be using calendering. 4,000 Email users use POP clients to check emails frequently. Remaining users use Webmail to check emails upto 2 or 3 times a day.
Now, if you experts advice that a six way IBM eServer X445 server with 16GB RAM and sufficient SAN storage would be able to take this load then I can go ahead with it. Do I have to take any specific measure in design and deployement to leave room for adding nodes.

Changing Host Name in OCS 10.1.2

I have Installed OCS 10.1.2 on RedHat Linux AS 4.5 (x86) on HP-Proliant DL 180 G5 Server.
I want to configure Apache Server in OCS to launch a web site.
Can anybody guide me with the Apache Configuration,
I have tried but as my site name and Host Name are same i am unable to do it -
Is it possible to change the HOSTNAME on OCS ?
Some guidence on this issue will help me to proceed else i will have to re-install OCS.

I had exactly the same poblem on a red hat 64bit OS on the infrastructure install.
But while trying to start opmn manually (that is definitely not to do to solve the problem). I had the error telling me that the shared library libdb.so.2 was not accessible.
I did add the compat-db-4xxxxx.i386.rpm and then retry the check. Then all passed threw.
To note that the .log file from the install says definitely nothing about this and that just trying to start the opmn did create another .log that gave me the file problem.
Hope it can help for 64bit linux OS installation.

Is United Linux supported by OCS?

I decided to start a new thread on this.
My main concern is that I want to test OCS on a supported OS. We would use the same OS we tested on of course for the production computer. From my understanding, Oracle will provide support down to the OS level if you use a supported linux operating system, RedHat AS is supported according to the install docs. If we HAVE TO use RedHat AS or ES then we have to use it. I'm interested in using SuSE Linux which is part of United Linux, we use it a lot at my company. I've spoken with a technical contact at Oracle regarding OCS and they said that United Linux is NOT supported yet.
However, according to SuSE they have Oracle certification for OCS:

I can't get to Metalink since I am not a paying customer yet. I'm trying to find a way to best test this. Is there any way I can get the tips for installing OCS under United Linux? Anyone else have experience installing under UL and know whether or not it's fully supported? Thanks.

OCS Patch 9.0.4.2 fails on storage

I am trying to patch OCS to 9.0.4.2 from a (fresh installed) 9.0.4.1 installation. The infrastructure is patches successfully. According to the patch notes the next phase is to patch the storage home (I do use the storage database as email store, so patching is needed).
In the wizard before the patch, the password for the es_store is asked. When I fill in the (correct) password, the installer fails with the following error:
an error occured while trying to execute command
Rather useless... In the error log off the installer I find:
Query Exception: RuntimeException
Query Exception Class: class.oracle.sysman.oii.oiil.OiiilQueryException
Since there is no installer shiped with the patch, I used the OUI shipped with patch p3335292.
This specific installation is running on Redhat Enterprise server 3.0 update 3, on a Xeon 3Ghz with 2GB RAM (HP DL380). Both the infrastructure as well as the storage tier are installed on this machine.
Did anyone else have this problem too, and if so: could you share what you did to have this patch install succesfully?

OK, I figured it out after your prompting to check dba_errors. I was getting this error on LTADM when running the scripts:
PLS-00201: identifier 'UTL_FILE' must be declared
PL/SQL: Declaration ignored
PLS-00905: object WMSYS.LTADM is invalid
PLS-00304: cannot compile body of 'LTADM' without its specification
PL/SQL: Compilation unit analysis terminated
After investigating SYS.UTL_FILE I could see there was a problem with the Public Synonym. So I ran the command:
Grant execute on sys.utl_file to public;
And that seemed to fix everytihng. The WM 10.2.0.4.2 scripts ran fine after that.

OCS V2 on linux "CREATE CONTROLFILE failed"

Hello,
i'd like some help regarding OCS instalation on linux.
at first i tried to install OCS V2 on redhat 9.
added redhat-9 to "certified OSes", installer started, fixed issue with "-z defs", then hung on relinkink webcache ins_calypso.mk. (ignored) later running DBCA get message "ORA-01503: CREATE CONTROLFILE failed" (abort) "ORA-01990: error opening password file ..." (abort) "ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status" (abort) same error (ok) other tasks continues...
even tried OCS V1 singlebox version. the same problem.
later downloaded and instaled UnitedLinux 1.0.
some more issues about fully qualified hostname.
needed to set /proc/sys/kernel/hostname not only to hostname, but to hostname.domainname.
and the get the same error.
i cant find answers to my problems in OTN and Metalink.
please help.

also followed suse recomendations for Oracle 9i R2 install on SLES8 (920_sles8_install.pdf).
updated kernel, downgraded gcc .
and got the same troubles.
at first with hostname, later with ins_sqlplus.mk, and then at dbca "CREATE CONTROLFILE failed".
can it be because of fqhostname "ocs.as.local" ?
or any naming of oracle home "/opt/oracle/product/iasdb" , instance name, or instance name "infra" / "ocs_infra" ?
i think i'm lost %(
