  • OCS 10.1.2 on Solaris 10 x86 Platform

Can any one tell me whether OCS 10.1.2 supports Solaris 10 x86 Platform?
    On the download page it says;
Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g Release 1 (10.1.2) for Solaris Operating System (SPARC 32-bit)
But we all know SPARC is 64-bit. Can someone clarify this.
    Thanks!
    Ravin

    Hi,
Yes - that's a little confusing; Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g is certified on a 64b Solaris SPARC. (The story behind the 32b is a long one, but it's related to client libraries vs. database servers and how 32b/64b liibraries are distinguished).
To answer your real question, though, No - it's not supported on Solaris x86.

  • OCS components on different platforms?

    For example.....
can we install OCS infrastructure on Linux, but install OCS applications on Windows?

The pdf you reference is a generalized Adobe EULA
I was referencing the Lightroom 3 specific PDF (per my link above), not the generic Adobe one.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/eulas/pdfs/photoshoplightroom_3.pdf
    from http://www.adobe.com/products/eulas/#desktop
However, the Lightroom EULA on Adobe's site makes no such claim, and has no clause 2.10.
I read that too but that EULA is on Adobe Labs. I'm unclear if that's related to the shipped version of LR3.
I'd say that you can run LR on both a Windows machine and a Mac machine using the same license. The way that Adobe ship Lightroom (one disk, one serial number works on each platform) tends to correspond with my thesis.
I've always been under that impresssion too.
However the LR3 EULA seems to suggest otherwise.

  • Questions on OCS and workflow

I am wondering whether I can configure the following:
    - Can I have multiple views? Example, view documents by Author, Project, Category? Can I customize document
    views?
    - Can I control access rights on a single document?
    - Can I monitor or extract a report on how often a document is accessed?
In addition, I have the following problems with OCS Workflow:
    - The Workflow has no default email notification. Documentations indicated that Email Notification has to be configured to work with SendMail. Can Email notification be configured with OCS Mail instead?
It does not make sense to use SendMail instead of OCS Mail.
    - Document can be viewed by Workspace members once it is uploaded. What is the purpose of workflow then?
    - Document has to be manually submitted for review to initiate a Workflow process. Can this be performed automatically?
    - WorkFlow approver is defined by the user. It should have predefined approvers.
    - In Workflow notification, Notification Detail provides the URL but does not have a URL link back to the document. In this case, the review process is manual because the approver does not have an easy
    way to preview the document.
Are my comments correct? Are there any workarounds?

    Roger,
    1) The default SPINCOUNT value is 0 (no spinning) for all platforms that are supported today. (At one time we had a default value of 5000 for Sequent hardware, but it has been many years since we supported that platform.) The SPINCOUNT value that will work best for any application depends on many factors, including the number of CPUs on the machine, the hardware platform, and the indvidual application. SPINCOUNT will only be useful when the machine has more than one CPU.
    2) /Q logs Q_CAT:1447 after 50 unsuccessful attempts to obtain the semaphore when the semaphore has never been released and reobtained by a different process or the same process during that period. The Access Control List code uses the same rule for logging LIBTUX_CAT:1511. If TMSPINCOUNT is set, then the number of unsuccessful attempts to obtain the semaphore is incremented by 1 only after TMSPINCOUNT spins have been done.
Code for the BB semaphore and the semaphore used by /Domain follows a different rule. This code will log LIBTUX_CAT:5005 or LIBGW_CAT:5010 if a process has to wait for the semaphore for 10 seconds and the semaphore has never been released by the original owner during this time period.
    3) TMSPINCOUNT is used for the BB semapahore, AOM semaphore, ACL semaphore, /Domain semaphore, and /Q semaphore. Locking the GTT uses the same BB semaphore that used to lock other tables in the BB.

    Ed

  • Rules are not working correctly in OCS 10.1.2

    Hi,
A few days ago we have encountered a problem in which the BCC rules or any other rules are not processed out of the user's mailbox.
For example, a user goes to Oracle Mail (the web access, but not WAC), goes to Filters and creates a new rule for dealing with incoming mail (delivered or read, doesn't matter). The rule is processed ONLY if the the user asked to move/copy the mail to a subfolder IN HIS MAILBOX.
If the user asks to forward ("Send a blind copy to") the delivered mails to a different mailbox (e.g. in OCS or to externally to gmail), the mail is NOT processed by the filter.
Other than that mails are treated normally, incoming and outgoing. Manually forwarding to other OCS users also works, as well as forwarding to external mail systems such as gmail. Only the 'automatic' forward rule does not work.
We have checked that the rules/filters are created with " oesrl -p" - and they are created.
How can we troubleshoot this issue? Has anyone encountered it?
    System details:
    OCS 10.1.2
    Platform: Red Hat AS 4
    DB version: 10.1.0.4.2
    Thanks,
    -- Itay.

    Update:
Problem resolved. restarted the SMTP-out service.

  • Help an OCS rookie!

    Hi,
First of all I would like to say that I have very limited knowledge regarding Oracle's products.
I'm trying to evaluate the Oracle Collaboration Suite. I download the OCS single-box installation package for the Windows platform. Unzipped the disk1-file and copied the other two files to the disk1-directory.
I have finally managed to complete the whole installation process but it doesn't feel like its working as it should. I must say that the installation process wasn't easy (many ports, username, password etc to remember) for someone who has limited knowledge about Oracle. I'm getting exceptions almost everywhere when browsing and some of the services will not start. It really feels like I will have to start all over again and re-install. So then I have a couple of questions
    - Should I go for the 10g installation? Is it easier? When will it be available on the Windows platform?
    - Should I try to install Infrastructure, Storage and Middle Tier separately? Is it easier then the single-box?
    - Should I just go for another try with the single-box 9.xxx installation package?
Any other advice would also be much appreciated!

The OID service is the Oracle implementation of an LDAP server. Check if processes on your OS are running that contain some string like "...oid...".
You'll see if the db is running when you have a couple of processes running like smon, pmon, etc. Check if the listener (tnslsnr) is running. Try to connect to the db with sqlplus.
Excuse me for being blunt, but if you don't know how to check if a database is running, then you will have a lot of trouble running the Collaboration Suite. Good DBA skills, AS Admin skills and some other qualifications (such as Vodoo and Black Magic come in handy :-) are necessary.

  • How to uninstall the OCS

how to uninstall the OCS and it's componet.
    thanks

    For windows platform.
Stop all active OCS (infra and store) services.
You should use ORACLE universall installer and uninstall all three tiers in order : midtier, store, infra. In registry you should delete all keys and values associated with OCS (home). Then in program files you should delete OCS install inventories.
Also in registry delete all keys associated with OCS in Local_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\services\oracle

  • Startup and Shutdown scripts for OCS 9.0.4 on Windows?

    Hi,
I wanted to know if startup and shutdown scripts for OCS 9.0.4 on Windows are available.
I am thinking something like the ocsctl_sample scripts that OCS10g included.
I have checked the OCS 9.0.4 documentation and not a lot of information for the windows platform is avaiable.
    Any information will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ana

There is no scripts that comes with 9.0.4.
One possibility is to just write the commands you normally use in a batch-file, but note that then you have no checking, and if OCS runs on several machines you should have some checking for required processes etc.
We are using some scripts that does this, but I'm not shure where they came from, possibly from Metalink or from this forum. Try a search. Our scripts are changed quite a bit for our needs, but I might be able to find the original ones.

  • OCS 10g for AIX 5L ?

can anybody tell me when will OCS 10G be available for the AIX platform as i have a huge opportunity here in malaysia.
    many thanks;
    andrew

    Hi,
Only 64bit for database server is available. There is no 32bit available for Oracle9 and Oracle10 on AIX, which means you NEED a 64bit server.
Note that also for Solaris only the 64bit version of oracle is available. However, you do not need a 64bit server on solaris, but just a 64bit version of Solaris, which you can install on a 32bit server.

  • OCS 10.1.2 evaluation on w2k PC

I want to install OCS 10.1.2 on Windows 2000 for the purposes of evaluating its functionality. It will never be deployed this way (possibly not even on a windows platform, but it is all I have right now) and performance is not a concern. My problem is that it insists on 900Mb RAM and I only have 500Mb - it says it can not install on my PC because of this.
Is this a hard restriction or is there some parameter I can tweak to get around it for the sake of feature evaluation?
    Thanks,
    Colin

You will definetly not have OCS running correctly with 500 megs, processes will timeout during the startup.
Even 900 is in my opinion far too low. IT should work with half of the processes running, but not a full blown installation ...

  • Importing the database from ocs 9 to ocs 10.1.2

I am working on setting up oracle collaboration suite 10g at work, and we have a seperate version of oracle collaboration suite 9i running now. I was wondering if I could import the database tables from ocs 9i into ocs 10g. If that is possible would I then have all the mail, files and lists that have been created on the old ocs server in the new ocs server.. If it is not possible do I then have to manually create new post lists, move mail with imap2imap and what about the files that are stored now on the previous version of ocs?

    Hi Andreas.
No, I did not post this question before, but I did post a question about transfering the migration tool that is refered to in the oracle collaboration manuals. Unfortunately, the tool refered too is not readily available and I ended up looking for it for more than two days.
I could not upgrade because we are switching hardware and the upgrade referred to in the installation manuals is an inplace upgrade, which is not a possiblity because of our decision to migrate to a better hardware platform. Thank you for taking time to answer my enquiry.

  • Is OCS 10.1.2 considered 10gR2?

I've seen reference to an OCS 10gR2 coming out later this year, but then 10.1.2 also seems to be referenced as 10gR2, so I was wondering which was correct and what/when the next release will be out?

It's not too confusing hopefully. There's a release name/number AND a version number.
Oracle Collaboration Suite Release 1 (9.0.3) - the '9i' moniker was occasionally but not often used.
Oracle Collaboration Suite Release 2 (9.0.4) - the '9i' moniker was occasionally but not often used.
    Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g Release 1 (10.1.1) - the first 10g release
Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g Release 1 (10.1.2) - just a patchset for 10.1.1, but also an upgrade from 9.0.3.1 and 9.0.4.1/2 AND installable on a fresh machine
Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g Release 2 (10.2.x) - the second 10g release (not yet released)
The 3rd/4th/5th decimals usually refer to patchsets, then patch levels then platform-specific patches.
The above numbers all refer to the OCS release and version only. The Oracle Application Server and Database releases/versions they're based on will be different. For example,
Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g Release 1 (10.1.2.x) is based on Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.0.2) and Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1.0.4.2).
We often, after Collaboration Suite releases, certify it with later versions of Application Server and the Database than the ones we ship with.
    Hope that helps?
    regards,
    Richard

  • OCS on Win2k or xp

Has anyone successfully installed and configured OCS on Windows 2k or xp and documented the process.
I've tried the handbook and the readme, but they dont account for possible obsticles and their resolutions.
I'm new to the Oracle platform so any help or pointing in the right direction is greatly appreciated.

Successfully installed OCS on Windows 2K both one box installation as well as installation into an existing infrastructure (iAS).
Obstacles and possible resolutions might be too many to list.
    I will mention a few: Oracle Files and workflow - you need to install the language pack in the WF for the Files installation to succeed. See Metalink for specifics;
Calendar config file (required for proper fcgi operation) commented out??
The handbook is a very basic introduction of the product. Go to OTN > Documentation > OCS and read the manual for each of the products.

    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
