OCS questions

Hi,
Had some questions from customer reg collabsuite suite:
1.Does it provides JSR-168 compliant portlets for most UI functionality?
2.Can be configured to acts as a WSRP Producer?
3.Does it supports any W3C-compliant browser?

I don't think that the collaborative portlets are compatible with those portlet specifications. The version of the portal(10.1.2.0.2) that ships with OCS is not compatible with those specs, so it would not be able to consume the portlets if they were JSR 168 and WSRP compliant.
OCS does support both IE and Mozilla(with a few limitations) but I'm not sure about others.

  • Questions on OCS and workflow

I am wondering whether I can configure the following:
    - Can I have multiple views? Example, view documents by Author, Project, Category? Can I customize document
    views?
    - Can I control access rights on a single document?
    - Can I monitor or extract a report on how often a document is accessed?
In addition, I have the following problems with OCS Workflow:
    - The Workflow has no default email notification. Documentations indicated that Email Notification has to be configured to work with SendMail. Can Email notification be configured with OCS Mail instead?
It does not make sense to use SendMail instead of OCS Mail.
    - Document can be viewed by Workspace members once it is uploaded. What is the purpose of workflow then?
    - Document has to be manually submitted for review to initiate a Workflow process. Can this be performed automatically?
    - WorkFlow approver is defined by the user. It should have predefined approvers.
    - In Workflow notification, Notification Detail provides the URL but does not have a URL link back to the document. In this case, the review process is manual because the approver does not have an easy
    way to preview the document.
Are my comments correct? Are there any workarounds?

    Roger,
    1) The default SPINCOUNT value is 0 (no spinning) for all platforms that are supported today. (At one time we had a default value of 5000 for Sequent hardware, but it has been many years since we supported that platform.) The SPINCOUNT value that will work best for any application depends on many factors, including the number of CPUs on the machine, the hardware platform, and the indvidual application. SPINCOUNT will only be useful when the machine has more than one CPU.
    2) /Q logs Q_CAT:1447 after 50 unsuccessful attempts to obtain the semaphore when the semaphore has never been released and reobtained by a different process or the same process during that period. The Access Control List code uses the same rule for logging LIBTUX_CAT:1511. If TMSPINCOUNT is set, then the number of unsuccessful attempts to obtain the semaphore is incremented by 1 only after TMSPINCOUNT spins have been done.
Code for the BB semaphore and the semaphore used by /Domain follows a different rule. This code will log LIBTUX_CAT:5005 or LIBGW_CAT:5010 if a process has to wait for the semaphore for 10 seconds and the semaphore has never been released by the original owner during this time period.
    3) TMSPINCOUNT is used for the BB semapahore, AOM semaphore, ACL semaphore, /Domain semaphore, and /Q semaphore. Locking the GTT uses the same BB semaphore that used to lock other tables in the BB.

    Ed

  • Backing Up and Restoring Lync Server 2013/OCS 2007 R2 Co-existence Environment

    Hello
I am seeking tips on how to build a replica of a Lync 2013/OCS 2007 R2 production pilot Co-existence environment in a test lab.
Lync 2013 is a standard Edition Pool
OCS 2007 R2 is an Enterprise Pool
Here is what I think...Is this feasible ? appreciate any other idea
    1. Get Active Directory to Test Environment
    For OCS 2007 R2 Servers
    2. Use LCScmd on OCS 2007 R2 Servers to backup Global\Pool\Computer specific settings
    3. Backup OCS 2007 R2 on Backend SQL Database
    4. Restore data from steps 2 and 3 to equivalent servers created and prepared in test environment
    For Lync 2013 SE Servers
    5. Use the Lync 2013 Backup and Restore Process to bring up Lync Server 2013 into the test environment
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh202192.aspx
    David

That should do it, as you said you'll need Active Directory as well so these accounts line up with something.
It may be easiest to restore into your virtual environment using virtual snapshots or Windows backups and fixing any corruption that may have occurred by restoring what you've backed up.

  • Lync 2013 client is deployed but user accounts are not migrated from OCS to Lync 2013 Server - how to open Lync meetings automatically in the Lync Web Plug-in

We have in our enterprise the following scenario:
    1 - Lync 2013 client is installed
2 - User accounts are not migrated to Lync 2013 Server, users are using Office Communicator as their main tool
3 - Users receive Lync 2013 meeting requests but when try to access them, Lync 2013 client launches and shows error. Users will need to open the browser and paste the URL to the address bar but this still open
4 - We cannot use the workaround of adding "?SL=1" to the Lync 2013 meeting URL as the user base is large and manual workaround is not accepted
5 - Question: is there any automated way, via egistry key or GPO setting, so that users temporarily (until their accounts are migrated to Lync 2013 server) can bypass Lync 2013 client completely and automatically open all Lync 2013 meetings
on the browser, using Lync Web Plug-in?

    Thanks for the response,
First, I should have mentioned clearly that users have Office Communicator 2007 client and Lync 2013 client installed in their machines. Their accounts are not migrated yet to Lync 2013 server.
Second, we are using IE9 and IE10. The issue is that users CAN join Lync 2013 meetings with their browsers but have to paste the URL manually to browser and add "?SL=1" otherwise, if they just click at the "Join Online Meeting" or "Join
Lync Meeting" URL it launches Lync 2013 client which shows error because is not configured yet, as they are using OCS client and migrating slowly to Lync 2013 server.
Is there a Group Policy setting or a registry key from Microsoft that can be turned on to these users machines and make will all Lync meeting requests to be opened in IE browser instead of Lync 2013 client. We need a way to ignore
Lync 2013 client until user accounts are migrated to Lync 2013 Server. Manually typing URLs is not an option in a big organization, can't explain thousands of users of different levels what to do.
We are regretting the decision not to separate Lync 2013 from Office 2013 package we deployed recently. If Lync 2013 is uninstalled then all Lync meeting requests are opened in browser without an issue.

  • Questions in Lync 2013 HADR

    Hi Team,
One of the customer raised the query:
In our scenario, we want Active/Active High availability between different geolocations with RPO=0 and RTO near zero (seconds).
    Questions:
    1. Isn’t this possible with pool pairing and database availability AlwaysOn synchronous commit?
    2. What is the bandwidth needed between both sites?
    3. Do you think to achieve Active/Active high availability (RPO=0, RTO=+/-0) for Lync between 2 datacenters we should go with the following scenario:
    --> Storage: virtualization (stretched LUNs)
    -->Compute: Hyper-v Clustering (failover cluster)
-->DNS: Global Datacenter Server Load Balancer
    4. What is the RTO and RPO in your proposed solution?
    Please advise. Many Thanks.

    1) No.  Pool paring doesn't automatically failover, therefore it does not meet the requirements.  Also, HA within a pool isn't supported across geographic locations, so I don't believe this requirement can be met within the supported model.
It's possible if you have a solid enough pipe between the locations with very low latency that you could go unsupported with the old Metropolitan Site Resiliency model:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg670905(v=ocs.14).aspx but not supported in 2013.
    2) This can't be answered easily, it depends on what they're doing and using. How many users, how much archived data... the SQL mirroring will be quite a bit, as well as the shared presence data on front ends.  Will they use video between sites?
Too many questions to get any kind of reliable answer.
    3) If RTO/RPO is this critical, then I'm assuming it's voice.  If it's not, then a short outage should be more tolerable.  If it is voice, do not leave the supported model... just don't.  You don't want to be in that
situation when systems are down and it's your phone.  No live migrations, just what's supported via TechNet and virtualization whitepapers.
    4) My proposed solution would be HA pools in both datacenters, built big enough it's unlikely to go down.   If the site does go down, pool failover can happen in a reasonable amount of time, perhaps 15 minutes if you're well prepared,
but phones could potentially stay online during this time.

  • Questions in Lync 2013 Pool failover behaviour

    Hello Team,
Please let us know answers for the below questions:
    If
Pool A fails over to Pool B in disaster mode.
Then the original front ends for Pool A are recovered successfully, and services start. Is it expected that  User Services, Conference services and CMS would continue to backup via the backup service for pool A routing Groups,
back to their original Pool A servers for the fail back? Or does the fail back, obtain all information from the SQL databases / the pool A user groups in Pool B? Is Pool pairing inactive after a fail over has occurred?
    MANY THANKS.

The Failback will sync any changes that were made while users are running on Pool B.  My understanding is that Pool pairing resume once Pool A was back online and attempt to sync the data ahead of the actual Pool Failback command.
Have a look at this preso for more details - http://bit.ly/120Ogls  View the powerpoint in presentation mode and you will see that when Pool A is repaired, mirroring operations resume even though Pool A users are
    still running off Pool B.
Of course the devil is in the details so I would test this out if you can and observe behavior and queuing the health of the pool mirroring process.
    Hope this helps.

  • OCS 10.1.2 on Solaris 10 x86 Platform

Can any one tell me whether OCS 10.1.2 supports Solaris 10 x86 Platform?
    On the download page it says;
Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g Release 1 (10.1.2) for Solaris Operating System (SPARC 32-bit)
But we all know SPARC is 64-bit. Can someone clarify this.
    Thanks!
    Ravin

    Hi,
Yes - that's a little confusing; Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g is certified on a 64b Solaris SPARC. (The story behind the 32b is a long one, but it's related to client libraries vs. database servers and how 32b/64b liibraries are distinguished).
To answer your real question, though, No - it's not supported on Solaris x86.

When compiling, the one included in the weblogicaux.jar is picked upand
    our
extension to this thrid pary product fails because the UserTransaction

    party expects.
I check the online doc in JDC and looks like our third party tool
    looks
    for
the correct signature for the JTA 1.0.1 --
while weblogic has an older(?) version of API?
    Here is the error:

    My question is:
    1. to work around the problem, we put the third party jar file infront

the weblogic classes. Are there issues I should watch out for?
    2. What version of JTA is included in weblogic 4.5.1?
    3. Checking weblogicaux.jar, it includes both

  • Common OCS problems

Some of the questions might repeat on threads below.
In this thread I'm trying to mention every problem(s) that with have with OCS.
    1. Workspace tasks (personal tasks)
Workspace task defined for assignee doesn’t appear in personal tasks of that user (it’s not normal that I spend an hour by coffee in the morning to check what are my new tasks on certain projects/workspaces).
I read some threads on metalink where this "problem" is mentioned under BUG section. Any idea?
    2. Content Services history
Is it possible to have a review, history of accesses to a certain file (list of accesses to file).
    3. Discussion mails
I have discussions opened in workspaces. Policy for receiving posts from outer mails is allowed. If I send an e-mail with attachment to the forum message (topic) is received, but there is no attachment inside! (from workspace discussion view).
If I view topic under general discussion (workspace forums, ....) a link to attachment is included in message? Why the topic view is different? What to do?
Thank you for replies if anyone.

    Hi Guys,
Interesting question. I've me wondering how I can do something similar. But not so much for the email(coz we are not using Oracle Mail), but for the security setup of a user in OCS. eg. a user is granted access to many folders or objects, we want an easy way to deprovision everything. (if backing up is possible before the deprovisioning, even better - just in case a wrong delete was performed, it is recoverable).
The other thing I'm interested is whether a branch in OCS can be backed-up and recovered easily (together with all it's meta-data and attributes) ?
    Regards
    Steve

  • Upgrade from OCS 2007 to OCS 2007 R2 and Lync 2013

    Hy friends!
    Help me, please!
Scenario: Migration from OCS 2007 RTM to OCS 2007 R2
Target: Keep user contact list (I'm talking about only OCS contact list from internal organization users, I'm not refer about external addresses)
Question: I want to know if when I move a user from OCS 2007 RTM to OCS 2007 R2 the user contact list is also migrated?
If Yes, can you share the Microsoft documentation that describe it?
So, after I migrate the users to OCS 2007 R2, finally I can do a supported migration to Lync Server 2013.
    Thanks in advance.

If you do a side-by-side migration the contact lists (and other user data) should remain intact. If you tear down OCS2007 and then install OCS2007R2, then you will need to use dbimpexp.exe to export the contact list from OCS2007.
    Here is an overview: http://blogs.technet.com/b/ucedsg/archive/2009/02/07/how-do-i-get-from-ocs-rtm-r1-to-ocs-r2.aspx
Also take a look at the deployment guide: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=19984 specifically
the section called "Updating from Office Communications Server 2007" which lists some potential issues.

  • OCS 2007 compatibility with Windows Server 2008 R2 x64

Hi, we have OCS 2007 installed on our Windows 2003 R2 Standard X64 Production Server and are moving to Windows 2008 R2 X64.
I've been looking at a few support articles out there (e.g. http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/982021) and noticed that they're saying it (is) compatible.
I would appreciate a definite answer from you experts out there on this so I'll know definitely if we can proceed with our upgrade or not.

To be clear, if this is OCS 2007 R2, then yes it will run fine on Server 2008 R2.  If it's OCS 2007 (not R2), that would not be supported.
