OCZ Intel extreme on H55-GD65

Hi, I have bought an MSI H55-GD65 motherboard, and with that the following sticks of RAM :
OCZ Intel Extreme Edition XMP 4 Go (kit 2x 2 Go) DDR3-SDRAM PC3-10600 - OCZ3X1333LV4GK
I would like to have your opinion on this choice. For instance, I would like to know if some manual configuration in the BIOS will be necessary.
Thanks for reading.

I also have the choice to buy a G.Skill ECO series (1.35V), since it is meant for an office computer which should be cool, low consuming and silent.
However it has to be more stable than lightning quick, of course because it is office work, and no freeze should happen during works on important documents.

  • H55-gd65 w/ 5870

    i have msi h55-gd65 w/ core i5 750 and 5870's
but my proc cant reach 3.2ghz in intel turbo boost is enable.
is there a bottle or any settings can help?
    my bios on default settings
    thanks

Since you said your bios is on default, I guess you did not overclock.
With turbo boost, the i5 750 can only reach 3.2 ghz (24*133) if only one core is under load.
I however remember having this problem also with only one core loaded, I believe it went away after a bios update, but I didn't really test it, as I prefer
    having turbo boost off.

  • Overclocking my i7-860 with an "old" H55-GD65

Well, it was new to me but I understand by todays standards it is "Old"... forgive me for my budget constrainsts at the moment, but atleast I did buy an MSI, right?
OK, that being said, I would like to be a little more educated on the overclocking functions and, in some cases, how to be able to adjust them as some I can not seem to get off of auto mode...
I'm new to this (if you couldn't already tell by my other stupid posts) so be patient with me please. I pick stuff up quickly. As a matter of fact as of a month ago I could't have told you what an i7 was... Now I have built my own system and I really want to learn what everything is, what it does and how it relates to everything a little more indepthly. I have read many articles on several forums reffered by this site, so I am somewhat up to speed on many of the settings.
So far I have done three OC attempts and saved their settings. All successfull in their own way. I managed to go from the OC Genie base setting of 3.59Ghz to 3.99Ghz. Ram settings on the OC genie was 1575Mhz and my OC's were 1525Mhz. Values for voltage on my OC's are all on auto, as I can not seem to find a way of manualy adjusting the voltage outside of OC genie settings so there must be something I am not doing right. As for CPU voltage the OC genie was1.31min/1.36max. Mine were 1.36min/1.42max (which it pretty much stayes right there. This is where I think I am consuming more power especially at a higher clock. I really need to get into the voltages for the CPU and RAM (the RAM especialy).
In 3Dmark11 my last OC produced much better physics scores 8500s vs 8100s so I am confident it is working well in that regard, but who knows, maybe it should be better givin the increase in frequency. I have also run BBC2 for over 6hrs on my 3.8Ghz tune and my CPU temps never got over 60C. With OCgenie activated, my temps are in the 55C range.
I am using CPUID monitor to read temps and voltages. In this I have noticed that the OC genie power package is pulling 65W, my packages were at 95W. So given the data of the performance and the heat build up at idle and max temps, I have to concede the OCgenie setting to be more efficient. I would like to know exactly why that is. I see a different multiplyer being used, but when I am in one of my clocks, I can not adjust this either, I can only adjust frequency. Why is that?
    Here are the specs on my system;
    CoolerMaster HAF 922; 3x2CM, 1x1.2CM
    i7-860
    H55-GD65
    2x4Gb G.Skill CL7 10666 ocupying 1,3
    Sapphire Dirt 3 HD 6950 2Gb
    Win 7 U
WD 1Tb Caviar Black 64Mb SataIII
    Antec H20 620 w/ UltaKAze 3000
    HCG-900 PSU
If any more info is needed, let me know. I will be all to happy to provide it the best I can.

Found it! -/+ buttons... Sry for the Noob post.... it was in the manual... Sry.
So now that that is out of the way...
I have noticed the recomendations on this sight varying from recomendations on other sites pertaining to what CPU functions should be Enabled/Disabled.
On this Forum I see most suggest O-clocking with T-boost and other CPU state controls active. Other sites say turn them off and run the CPU throttled. I personaly like the idea of a more energy efficient combo, providing it works comparitively. I am also begining base testing again with Prime95 so I know I am starting with a completely stable platform.
I also read that there is a limit of the onboard chipsets. Being this is an H55, can I ask what is the max throughput (I believe is the propoper term) for this chipset? On the Specs page it lists max QPI up to 6.4GT/s. Could someone explain what this number is representative of and what it means in relation to maximum attainable CPU frequency? Thanks.

  • 2.8GHz Intel Extreme iMac: XBench results

Can someone who has the 2.8GHz Intel Extreme run Xbench (www.xbench.com) and post the results?

Hi Geoff and welcome to Discussions,
Intel has not updated their own website for deatils on the X7900 (if that's its name).
But that's not so unusual: Just today Intel officially presented the 3GHz XEON Quad-Core, which Apple uses for some months in its Mac Pros.
So I don't think that these are overclocked X7800.
Given the FSB800 and the 4GB max RAM, I would say that it's a Santa Rosa chipset, that is used.
Best I found was a news from a german computer magazine called c't, which also made these assumptions.
I hope someone round here gets his 2.8GHz iMac soon, so that he can post his System Profiler outputs.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • H55-gd65 support Xeon 1156?

I see that there are xeon processors in the LGA 1156 socket. Is this compatible with the h55-gd65 board? Thought I'd ask...

I stared at it for a second before it registered, "That's a fricken USB 3.0", I blurted.
    That is an eSATA-Port...
My ancient P45 Platinum has it, too:
The even more ancient P35 Platinum even had two of those:
Now take another look at the back panel of your H55-GD65:
You can see the difference in this picture:
The two blue ports on the right are USB 3.0 ports.  The single blue port on the left is an eSATA-Port.
If you still think that you have an USB 3.0 port, then try to plug an USB device into it.  You will need a big hammer to make it fit.

  • Can H55-GD65 MB use any newer CPU than 1st generation?

I am trying to find out what the H55-GD65 board can use for a processor? I see the list only has 1st generation i3, i5 or i7 chips and am wondering if this board can use anything newer? I also looked at the bios updates and they do not say whether they updated the list or not. It seems that you can only use a Clarkdale chip from the 1st generation chips, is this true?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Can I use any of the 1155 pin CPU's is more of the question at this point?
No, it is not possible. Only the ones and the BIOS versions to support them as listed in the link.

  • MSI H55-GD65 X.M.P. support

    Hi
    I am currently running a core i3 on a MSI H55-GD65 with noname 4GB RAM @ 1333 Mhz in a dual channel configuration.I am planning to buy 2 x 4GB Vengeance LP CML8GX3M2A1600C9 1.5V @1600 Mhz.
    My questions are:
    1:Is my board X.M.P. compatible.
2:If the sticks be running at 1333 MHz.What will I have to do to make it run at 1600 Mhz.
    my Sluggish memory benchmark :(
    Thanks

If the X.M.P. setting doesn't show in your BIOS Cell Menu, the current RAM installed may not have X.M.P. profiles? The new Corsair's probably do have that profile, which in that case the setting will probably show in Cell Menu. For initial startup with the new RAM, only place one stick in the primary dimm slot. If all is well, add the second stick. The SPD Tab of CPUID's CPU-Z utility will show if there are X.M.P. profiles, and will show the timings to set if it is done manually.

  • H55-GD65 update bios

    Hi.
I tried to update bios from 1.3 to 1.5. Via live update I downloaded exe file. After running file I was asked to turn off all running programs. I turned off all, but one soft still looked as running. Name was 1. Start. After force turning off this item win7 shut down screen appeared. So I was not able to update firmware this way.
I tried another solution: I found ami bios flashing utility in live update directory. Run and chose 1.5 file and update was executed. But after updating bios to 1.5, i have problems.
    1. ocgenie reduce auto overclocking my i5-660. Before updating I have 4200 MHz, now I have 3700 Mhz.
    2. I have very slow starting windows 7 x64 ulti since bios 1.5. I have SSD OCZ Vertex 2 and booting to win lasted few seconds. Now its about 30 seconds. i don't know where is a problem, but start of win significantly increased.
Any idea where is a problem with OC and slow booting win? Could it be a result of my not standard updating bios?
Thx. very much for any solutions.

Turn off OC Genie, disable it in BIOS and then manually OC in BIOS.
Why did you update BIOS in the first place? If you didn't have any problem that needed update then go back to the older one. Just because there is is a newer BIOS does not mean you need to use it. Updated BIOS is to fix particular problems or most of the time update for latest CPU's. If neither applies to you then you should not have flashed the later BIOS.
Edit: Mine came with 1.0 and I needed to flash 1.2 to cure memory compatibility issue and have had no reason to flash any later BIOS than that.
    Hi.
I wanted to upgrade firware on my SSD disk. Updating firmware can be done only in AHCI mode, I tried to switch from ide to ahci but NTLDR error appeared. So first I tried to update bios. (still ahci mode doesn't work in win7 ultimate x64, every sopution I found doesn't work).
Manual OC - I could manually OC, but I'm not very skilled in oc, so that's why I bought msi mainboard with ocgenie. Maybe I downgrade firmware back to 1.3.

The mainboard already has two onboard controllers that require the system to load option ROM Firmware data into system memory.  There is only a limited amount of memory resources on the BIOS level on a given mainboard.  That is why it is not unusual when you run out of option ROM resources sooner or later if you add more controllers.

The low temperature threshold that needs to be reached in order to make the fan stop is much lower than 30°C.  It is probably somewhere between 10°C and 20°C.  That means the chance that the system fan will actually stop spinning on a Desktop computer is rather low under normal operating conditions (room temperature).

  • H55-GD65 raid

    Hi.
I bought second disk and I'm trying to create raid array. But I'm not able to create it.
I found in some specification, that this stupid mainboard doesn't support raid !!!!!
Is it true? Is it normal, that mainboard bought in 2010 doesn't support raid?
Is there any way how to create raid 0 array?
    Thx. for answers.

It has nothing to do with the mainboard.  This is not a mainboard problem.  Actually, it is no problem at all.  No mainboard that features an Intel H55 chipset supports RAID.  It is the chipset (its integrated SATA controller) that does not support RAID.
    Look here:
For RAID capability you would have had to buy a H57 based mainboard:
As you can see, "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" is not mentioned in the H55 chipset diagram.

  • Setting up Intel RST on z77a-gd65

    Hi All
Are there any detailed step by step guides to setup Intel RST on a MSI Z77a-gd65 ?
I went into the BIOS and set the SATA Mode to RAID MODE. I installed Windows 7 using the latest RAID drivers from MSI. I loaded all the drivers with no problems.
When I try run the RST installer file it comes up with a message "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software"
I also have edited the registry changing the value of the "Iastorv" START section.
Am I doing something wrong? Should I be changing something in the RAID controller configurator (CTRL I) ?
Any help will gladly be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi,
have your red the "Appendix B - Intel RAID" section of the mainboard user manual?
    --> http://download1.msi.com/files/downloads/mnu_exe/E7751v2.2.zip
Includes a detailed description on how to set up a RAID Array using the Intel SATA Controller, including numerous screen shots.
Also, what is your current BIOS Version and which SATA-Ports are your HDDs or SSDs connected to? ---> >>Posting Guide<<

I got a T400 with intel x4500 onboard and installed the xorg intel module from testing. Everything is fine so far, got decent Kwin performance, desktop cube rotates smooh. But when I try to play warosw, or quake3 i get around 5 fps. I think q2 and q3 should be easily playable on that graphics card. Any ideas how to improve graphics power?
    I already use INTEL_BATCH=1
    thx

what the hell does INTEL_BATCH do?
This is most puzzling. First off, this does not work for me on  i915. Nor should it. Essentially, INTEL_BATCH=1 should do nothing, since the code for this has been removed:
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg … comments/7
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … comments/8
I also did not find a mention of it on bugs.freedesktop.org or intel-gfx mailing list. If anything, this is an obsolete hack.
How did you measure performence? Please try for example openarena (http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/Benchmarking).

  • A few general questions relating to H55-GD65 and core i5 750 Lynnfield

I finally made the jump from AMD to intel, and DDR3 ram, been reading the forums for around 3hours, been a member for 2hrs. Been building systems since Redhat 9.0 came out, so Don't expect any thing as funny as Quote
because I want to know the temperature of the IOH without the heatsink.
    Would it be better to run 2gig X 4 = 8gigs of RAM, or 4gigs X4 = 16 gigs?
Concerning dual channel mode, must I buy them in matched sets, or can I buy one stick at a time, obviously buying the same exact kind each time?
To run DDR3 1600mhz on this board will I need to set the voltage/timings manually, or will it auto detect?
From what I've read the pcie controller is on die, and with the i5's you can only run 1@ X16 or dual X8, am I correct?
If I get a pcie x8 sas raid controller card, will it affect graphics performance?
Also this will be my first attempt at dual booting sata hard drives.
Would it be difficult to have win7 x64 on the mobo's onboard sata, and linux (either Mandriva, Open Suse, or gentoo if my insomnia is still acting up)
    on the sas card?
Edit: Almost forgot, has any one else had issues with the onboard NIC dropping connection? It never happens when It is in use, only when i walk away from it, as an example Wow's latest 4gig patch had 900megs to go on a 1.1megabyte connection, upon going to sleep and locking the computer windows key-L, woke up with it having 500megs remaining and as soon as i opened my browser my connection picked right back up

    Hello and welcome,

Its better to use 2x4GB, to lessen the strain on the memorycontroller and yes, you'll have to set it to 1600MHz yourself most of the time.
The memorycontroller is rated for 1066/1333MHz, so anything beyond is considered overclocking and thus the controller will not set those higher timings automatically.
Do you really need 8GB? For office, internet and gaming, normal homeusage, 4GB is more then enough, 8GB is nice if you render a lot or if you use cad/cam and photoshop stuff

Yes it runs @x8 when running 2 vga's, or in your case if you use a PCIe x8 card, but the impact is none, even the GTX480 and the HD5970 are not capped when @x8, so no worries there.

I have had dual and even triple boot since XP and never had any issues, be sure to write the different os to different hd's or partitions. About Linux on a sascard, no idea, Im not familiar with that.

Check your windows powersavings settings, maybe it turns it off when in standby/sleep mode.
If you cant find anything there check bios, to make sure onboard NIC is always on, although I believe  you must find such a setting in windows.

  • Is sli at all possible on h55-gd65?

I've always been a big fan of the ATI cards, and running linux, the current ati drivers for linux, which were specific to the distrobution i was using, crashed it, I thought it may have been user error, did a few fresh installs, same thing every time: install driver, video goes screwy, edit config files to change resolution and back to an unbootable state. Which is why i plan on switching to nvidia, my buddy's fermi works perfect, but drunk monkeys in a barrel can write better drivers then ati/amd at this point. I know its a crossfire specific board, but we all know if it is computerized in any way theres usually a way around it. If I need to get a new board I will, but hopefully it doesn't come to that because my empty wallet and wide eyes are eyeing up the big bang lol

Thats what i figured, i know on older boards i was able to xfire on a sli board. Do all the p55 chipsets by msi support sli? I've been looking over them and see that you can run ati/nvidia cards together on the same board, and one has xfire plastered at the top, and sli on the bottom of the same page
