OCZ PC3700 RAM K7N2G-L

i have a K7N2G-L and OCZ PC3700 Ram, the Ram's rated to 466mhz but i cant get it there in the bios...  any idea's of what settings to use to get this?  and high preformance defaults dont do it,  they still keep it at 400
thanks

ok tainted i had to mess around in bios before i would post.  You can get it to 466 mhz on your ram.  I did mine and its only pc3200 i had it over 425mhz (didnt want to go higher).  You have to mess with the fsb/dram clock you might even have to mess with the FSB a little.  I cant tell you the exact numbers b/c i dont want to over clock my ram that much.

  • P35 Platinum stuck with 008D error in boot with newly added OCZ Fatal1ty rams

    Hi,
I was using 2x1 GB 800 MHZ OCZ vista performance rams without any problem. I just bought 2x1 OCZ Fatal1ty 1066 MHZ rams. In the specification of my P35 Platinum mainboard it tells that it supports 1066 (OC).
I don't want of course to run all my rams at 1066 MHZ. I just want to run all of them at 800 MHZ.
However, when I placed all 4 rams in every combinotion on the slots, computer boots but it stuck after the boot screen and there is "008D" in the rightdown corner.
Interestingly when I just put Fatality rams (2GB)  computer doesn't boot! Only 1xvista perf. Mhz 1xFatal1ty or 1xvista perf. Mhz 1xFatal1ty works but stuck at after the boot screen.
I tried to enter 5-5-5-15 values and tried to adjust memory voltage to 2.1 V as told in the new ram's specification but doesn't affect. What is your solution? Since new rams do not work among themselves, are they broken or my board doesn't support them?

If I'm not wrong, your post sounds to me that you are trying to mix the OCZ Vista and OCZ Fatal1ty RAMs on the same board.
This is highly not recommended as both RAMs are very different in most aspects (Speed, latencies, voltage and made).
I would suggest that you clear CMOS and choose which set you'll want to boot the system with and settle with that.

  • PC3200 or PC3700 RAM question (not in faq)

I'm wanting some advice about a system I'm building and what memory I should select. I'm going to purchase the MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum Moboard with the A64 3500+ CPU. MSI recommends the PC3200 RAM which I'm leaning on getting but I also am thinking about the PC3700 RAM. I think I'll get the "enhanced bandwidth" version of either of these but my question is the PC3700 ram runs at 466Mhz. Will I see any advantage from the 3700 version of the RAM over the 3200 which runs at 400Mhz? I don't plan on overclocking at all.
    Thanks, all
    Tim

    Tim,
Just get good quality PC-3200 and you will be fine. If you are looking to overclock, then I would look at getting a least PC-4000.
    Take Care,
    Richard

  • K8n Diamond SLi 7100 and OCZ PC4800 RAM

    Hi everyone,
Does anyone know if the OCZ PC4800 DDR600 2.5-4-4-10 Dual Channel RAM works ok in this board?
I know it needs 2.85v which is achievable, but would like to know if it will work with these "picky" motherboards.
The OCZ spec says that it is tested at 2T and will work at 1T in some boards....does this include the Diamond board?
Failing that the next best would be Adata Vitesta PC4800 modules, but these need more volts and run at CAS3....and cannot get higher volts without a mod.
    Any info would be great.

Most boards I've used have dual channel on the bank 1 & 3 or 2 & 4 but my board has it on bank 1&2 or 3&4. Is this the usual setup for MSI? Seems a little strange, I was going to buy ram with heat spreaders but I don't think they will fit.
they fit. i have heatspreaders on mine and had no problems. also there are many users using corsairs, which have the bulkiest heatspreader around.

  • CAS LOCKED @2.5CLK with OCZ PC3700 EL Dual Gold

    Hi, there!
During the process of trying to find a problem that I have with graphics flashes when OC'd I have found that my DDR is locked at CAS2.5. I have verified this in both Memtest86+ and CPU-Z. The other timings change with my BIOS settings in both programs, but not CAS. Can anyone tell me how to change this timing???
For my graphics problem thread, see:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=43433&sid=
Any help on both topics highly appreciated!!!!!

Yes I have always checked this with ClockGen. Actually one thing I thought was strange was that the AGP/PCI selection is ALWAYS EXACTLY 66.67/33.33 (plus the higher settings) no matter what my FSB is set to. I have tried this for FSB 205/210/217/220. But if ClockGen is correct then the AGP is not OC'd. I have tested a lot, and yesterday reinstalled WinXP, ran 3DMark01/Dragothic (which always shows the vid. problems), then installed 45.23 drivers, ran it again, OC'd @FSB217 and it was OK (but low framerate). Then I installed the latest chipset drivers from this site and the problems are there. But this does not prove anything, since the WinXP chipset drivers probably are only there for running the system until the correct ones are installed. Ie. they are of a 'generic' type, I think.

  • K9A2 CF-F V2 won't run 1066mhz ocz ram please help

Ok I have searched this board for anyone having this trouble and cant seem to find it.  Now I am thinking I bought the wrong board, so here is my problem.   K9A2 CF-F V2 MB w/ Phenom Tri-core processor with 2 sticks of 1GB of OCZ 1066 ram = 2gb total on in each slot 3 and 4 but the slots are different colors but according to most that shouldnt make a difference,  I have changed every setting in the bios that I can see but the fastest I can get the ram to run is 800mhz.  some one please help.  I saw where someone says to change the volt setting in bios for the mem. but I cant find where to change that, also saw something about 5-5-5-18 t2 so I did that but what about the rest of the settings they leave at auto but still no avail then I saw another post say to set them at 5-6-6-18 T2 still nothing wont boot with either of these configs, what in the heck am I doing wrong starting to think that the MB wont run OCZ mem.  maybe different mem would work what you think?  like I said 667 and 800 will work but 667 seems more stable. ok thats it for now by the way 580 watt power supply .

ok here is what it says

  • K8TM-ILSR RAM speed problem

I'm using 2x512 Kingmax PC3200 memory in my MSI K8TM-ILSR mobo.  The ram works fine & stable (and is even the EXACT same model listed on the official supported DDR400 list), but I can't get it to run any faster than DDR333/PC2700.  I've tried changing the BIOS "DDR Speed" setting from "AUTO"  to "Limit: 400MHz."  I can get the timings down to 2-3-2-5 stable, but I've also tried many other timing combinations (for example, the slowest).  I've also tried tinkering with the voltage.  Oh, and I have the latest firmware update.
And ideas?  Do you think it's the RAM or the motherboard that is to blame?  From my experience, the mobo is extremely picky about the ram - I had 2x512 Kingmax PC3700 ram that wouldn't even allow my PC to POST, even though they worked beautifully on my friend's ASUS mobo.
So, is there any hope for me running my RAM at DDR400 speeds?

Honestly, I have the 6741 K8TM-ILSR running AMD 64 3200 with fsb set to 215.  In this box I have two 1 GB sticks in that board of:
Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series, Low Latency 184 Pin 1GB DDR PC-3200 PRO - Retail
I also run the 6701 K8T Neo-FIS2R.  This is essentially the same chipset just a few more options than the other board.  I have two 512 MB sticks in that board of:
OCZ Enhanced Latency Series Platinum Edition 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 - Retail
The ILSR is on the 1.4 bios and is as solid as a rock even with the fsb set to 215.  You say to yourself so what.  Well.. The memory of course shows its running at 333 as do various utilities.  However, I am running 2 GB's there and any little things going on between those two chips might slow it slightly for safety.  I had to push them to about 2.75 volts to get the stability, but it is solid.  And, I must say that it runs faster and more reliably than the more expensive "Cadillac" of boards.
The Neo-FIS2R I have spent my life rebooting and changing bios rev, currently at 1.6.  I had changed it to 1.8 and determined I could keep that and have a boat anchor or try plan "B".  Plan "B" just happend to "B" bios rev 1.92B.  As I swore repeadtly at every bios version I spent my time mostly rebooting and trying to find a HAL that would work properly.  I happened to read an article where the tested this board and to get compatibility with the widest variety of memory they used bios rev 1.6.  I pondered this and flashed back to 1.6.  She has been stable, but far from fast.  Yes, it has every thing nice including (for the moderator) a 550 W power supply delivering juice (per spec is another story).
What's my point?  The bigger faster board shows 400 speed and all kinds of other things that says it should be the fastest.  It has never run a cycle over stock speed, quite simply because it crashes every time.  It does run, and I suspect a bios rev might make it right someday, but there you go.  The board showing 333 is actually one of the best I have ever had, little micro-atx woogums that it is.  Oh, I had to juice the ocz ram up to about 2.80 volts to get any stability.
    Peace

  • New RAM Does Not Run At Correct Timings

    Hey guys,
My package arrived today.  Brand new OCZ PC3700 Gold Edition 1GB Dual Channel kit.
Before installing, I clocked back my CPU to default speed and set the memory frequency to Auto.
I stuck in the new modules and booted up. Booted in dual-channel, but only at 400MHz when they're DDR466. Strange.
I went into the BIOS and manually set the frequency to 466, and they booted fine. My CPU booted at 3.26GHz instead of the default 2.8, I assume because I have 1:1 ratio set and my FSB must keep up with the memory.
According to CPU-Z though, they're running at 2.5-4-4-10, when the website says they run at 2.5-3-3-7.
What gives? I thought they would run at their rated timings when they're at the default frequency.
Also, how do I know what timings I should use for different FSB speeds? I was planning on trying some overclocking tonight to see how far I should get, but I need to know what to set the timings at before I do so.
Also, what should I set the MAT to in the BIOS? he options I have are Normal, Fast, Turbo(MAT) and Ultra-Turbo(MAT).  Does the MAT setting affect the RAM timings?  In what way, exactly?  The MSI website does not explain MAT in any great detail.  Also, what should I set this at when I overclock?

SPD uses info programmed into the ram sticks to decide what settings to use for particular speeds. You can use a utility like Sisoft Sandra to see what is programmed.
Normal, Fast, Turbo and Ultra-Turbo are the performance mode settings. Fast and higher enable the PAT mode (see  P4 Neo Unofficial Guide ). However, at FSB settings higher than 218, PAT becomes disabled. At settings higher than approximately 225, the 'lost' performance is regained. The settings themselves allow the bios to set progressively more agressive memory settings.
When you set the RAM speed to 400 instead of Auto, and set the CPU FSB at 225 or higher, a lot of ram that won't run in Ultra-Turbo at other settings is able to run.
As for the ram speed rating, it isn't the speed the ram runs at. It is the maximum speed it is supposed to be able to run at. When you set the ram speed in the bios, you are setting the speed it runs at when the cpu FSB is at 200. Increase the cpu FSB by 10% and the ram runs 10% faster.
Any time you increase the FSB setting, make sure you go to the AGP/PCI setting. It will be greyed out, but you can hit the enter key anyways. Then select the closest setting to 66/33 you can find. This will keep the AGP card stable and prevent data corruption problems with SATA drives.

  • K8n neo2 heatsink and ram question

    Hi there
i am planning to buy a whole new rig soon and the mobo id like to buy is the k8n neo2...
From what i have found using the search function, OCZ ram seems to work fine with all msi a64 mobos, so this shouldnt be a problem anymore i guess...
    (ram = 2 x 512MB OCZ PC3700 EB Platinum Edition)
What i couldnt really find via the search function was which cooler is the best buy fot ose on the neo2 platinum...
Im thinking of a thermalright SLK-948U but i dont see any the K8N neo2 on the motherboard compatibility list :s
Since the list isnt updated that often, it might be possible that the heatsink IS compatible with this mobo and thats why im asking
is there anybody who has this combo or knows if its (not) working?
    thx in advance :D

SLK948 works great on the NEO2 - i have one on my board and theres no fitting problem at all.

  • HELP PLZ: NEO2-FR 4GB 1066 Ram probs

Hello All. I need some help with a memory issue that I just cannot figure out. Once I configure my OC'd Quad Core CPU and 4gb of ram and actually get them running, I cannot turn off the computer and have it reboot successfully - and its not a CMOS battery problem. I used to be able to do this for the last year or more.
So I have 4gb of OCZ 1066 Ram in my MSI-7345 motherboard. I have a Q6600 quad core CPU. My motherboard bios is up to date (1.10). I'm well aware of how to overclock my CPU, and the requirement that I overclock the ram to get it running up to speed (I run it at about 1030 now...).
The problem I am having occurs when I power off the computer.
To begin with, this board is a real pain to get the 4gb of memory to even post. I can get it to work now, but its an annoying process of booting up three sticks (which always works), loading default settings, reboot, then I have to power off the computer mid-post (thats a trick I had to learn through trial and error), click in the fourth stick, and then it will go ahead and boot all four sticks, overclocked and everything. But, if I ever turn off the computer for more than a few minutes, it will not successfully post again. It did not used to do this.
(Are other boards this fickle with 4gb? Its such a pain that I'd happily spending money on a new MB if I could avoid this problem.)
Once its running, PRIME95 torture test, and MEMTEST v. 3.4 show all is well - no errors, my computer doesn't crash, its fine. I can leave it on all day running these things with no problems. So, I tentatively conclude, my memory itself is OK.
The problem is if I turn off the computer for any period of time longer than a few minutes (and basically always if I pull the plug for a minute or more before putting it back in), the board will not post. The error lights show a memory problem, OR, sometimes, a CPU problem - and sometimes it switches between the two. If I run through the process of setting up the four sticks to work, I can get it working again.
My computer did not used to do this. I had it configured to shut down for 10 minutes every morning before powering back up - and it was fine - and I want to still do this.
I recently RMA'd 2 sticks back to OCZ because one stick wouldn't post if it was the only stick installed - I assumed it was bad. BUT, of the sticks I got back, still, one won't post on its own, but it WILL post along with the others...and I get no errors when I run MEMTEST or PRIME95...
I don't think OCZ will allow another RMA of the same sticks - they'll think I don't know what I am doing and that I am breaking them - plus, as I said, I CAN get them all to boot, just I cannot get the computer to re-power up.
Any ideas? If you need more info from me, just ask.
Lastly, can somebody explain how I go about trying to flash an older version of the bios (1.8) when I don't have a floppy drive? Thank you for any help!
    STATS:
CPU: Intel Q6600 G0 stepping (was running at 2.95 for a year - but with this recent problem, I step it back a bit, but it has no impact)
    Motherboard: MSI-7345 (Neo2-fr)
    Memory: 2 OCZ 1gb @ 5-5-5-15 / 2 OCZ 1gb @ 5-5-5-18 (I manually set the timing to 5-5-5-18 and the voltage to 2.3)
    Video Card: GeForce 7900GT
    Hard Drive: 320gb Western Digital
    OS: Windows XP SP3 32bit
    Power Supply: OCZ 700W

*deleted* - sorry, I reverted to BIOS v. 1.7, and thought that fixed it. But further testing shows it did not.

  • Wanting to get more out of my RAM

Ok, so here's the deal.  I've got a 5000+BE and 4GB of OCZ 800Mhz RAM, which I want to get the most out of.  I've got it listed in my profile, but I'm running my proc. at 3.2 with a multi of 16 and 1.4V putting the memory at 400Mhz.  My big question is is there a way to alter the memory divider or a way to oc the ram without altering the HT bus.  My proc is running 12 hrs stable on orthos, prime95, and CPU Stability Test.  The RAM is good at 24hrs on Memtest.  Any suggestions or pointers would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

My apologies for the briefness of my message earlier, I was a bit rushed.
If I'm correct, then I have set the "FSB/Memory Ratio" to 1:2 which gives me the 400Mhz but is there a way to change the cpu/memory divider or is that automatically set by the memory controller on the cpu.  I had to either set my processor to 3.2Ghz (16x2000) or 2.8Ghz (14x2000) to get the 400Mhz on my RAM due to the cpu/memory divider.  Am I going to have to lower the multi and raise the HT speed to get more speed on the ram and still maintain stability on my processor?  If that's the case I'd appreciate some recommendations on doing so, especially HT frequency stepping and voltages.  I've read a lot but don't really have any experience with ocing, other than what I've said here.  Thanks for your help.

BTW, I'm currently on a quest to achieve memory stability, so I have lots of reviews and user testimonials dancing around in my head, but the OCZ PC3700 EB seem to be the leader of the pack for the AMD 64.  The PC4000's will actually hurt you, but I don't remember why.  Probably something to do with memory ratios and running asynchronously.

Sold my old boards for $240........ I might try overclocking

  • Yea yea... another 1066 ram problem

so i'd hate to thread crap here... but i need some help
im like the guy posting above, i have some ocz 1066mhz ram rated at 5-5-5-15@ 2.1v
i asked on the ocz boards for help too, and they suggested i lower it to5-5-5-18, 2T, tRFC 60 and 2.1V , but that still fails to be stable after 10 minutes of use.
now i know this ram is fine at 5-5-5-15, and i wouldnt mind running it at 5-5-5-18.. but to have none of them work, is just kinda annoying.
it ran fine on my old mobo, but i got a p45 neo2 to replace it last month, but i have never been able to get it stable at 1066 mhz on the msi board... and now its too late to return the dang board.
i have flashed bios 3.4, but the problems still occur
    any solutions?
a quick google showed that a beta 3.51 bios exists that is better, or even that bios 3.2 is better for clocking ram to 1066mhz
do any of you guys have any advice?
also, if there is a new bios, i couldnt find a link on this forum or the msi site that goes past 3.4, and i dont trust flashing bios' totally random sources, so i was wondering if there was a link anywhere on the msi forum or the msi website

If you read the specifications on the website, the 1066 mem is marked with an *, and a clear indication that this is OC. OC is not guaranteed to work by any manufacturer. I just did a build with another manufacturers board, also based on the P45 chipset, same indication, 1066 is regarded as OC. How is that false advertising by MSI if they clearly indicate this as being OC?
I expected the same from my own P45 board and ran through the exact frustrations that you are experiencing.
Just recently the beta BIOS I am using now allows me to go to 1066 at 5.5.5.15 without problems, but my tests have shown that there is no significant gain in performance over DDR2-800.
To blame MSI will not solve the P45 chipset design specifications. 1066 is OC.Find the right BIOS, RAM and CPU combination and it may work. It becomes a discussion of numbers though, as the gain is not worth the trouble.
Edit: Also refer to the Intel specs regarding the P45 chipset. http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/chipsets/p45/p45-overview.htm

I was hoping one of you wonderful experts on this board might be able to help.  I just bought a pair of OCZ DDR2-RAM and am having trouble getting the system to recognize it.  Here are the specs:
    RAM specs:
     - 533MHz DDR2, unbuffered CL 3-3-3-8
     - 1GB (2X512) dual channel optimized gold kit
     - 1.8V 240pin DIMM
     - 2.2V EVP - OCZ's unique Extended Voltage Protection feature allows PC2-4200 modules to handle voltages up to 2.2V ±5%
     - OCZ part number:-OCZ25331024ELDCGE-K
    System specs:
        * CPU model and rated speed:-Intel Socket775 2.8GHzE
        * Not Overclocked
        * Motherboard and revision:-MSI 915G-combo
        * Motherboard Bios rev:-1.7 (latest)
        * Video card:-ATI X800XL
        * Power supply:-450W
        * Operating System:-XP Pro SP2
My current Crucial DDR-400 PC3200 CT6464Z40B 2x512MB RAM runs without problems installed.  When I switched out the Crucial RAM and installed the OCZ DDR2-533 PC4200 RAM in the appropriate DDR2 slots (1 and 3), no go.  The system won't even post and I can't get into the BIOS.  I tried using even just one of the 512MB sticks, alternated sticks, and even tried just one stick in DDR2 in slot3 instead of slot1 - no go. My boot drives don't get accessed either as I had even placed a Memtest bootdisk in the floppy hoping it might be able to access that.
I've been working over the last 24hrs with the very helpful OCZ folks but we havn't been able to get anywhere.  I realize that OCZ isn't technically on the 'tested and verified' DDR2-list for the 915G-combo board, but OCZ is a good name brand (up there with Crucial) and I went for the higher-end Gold-series (CAS3) so I figured it wouldn't be a problem.
I've tried clearing the CMOS (no effect except to wipe out my bios settings).  I have a D-Bracket2 installed and it hangs when the upper right light is green with the rest red (according to the D-bracket guide, that means 'Memory Detection Test - will hang if the memory module is damaged or not installed properly'.  I can't imagine the RAM is bad - I have 2 matching ones to test (neither seem to work when installed by itself), and just got it brand new from Monarchcomputers yesterday evening in their retail box unopened.
Per OCZ's advice, I was unable to manually set a CAS of 4 with my Crucial DDR installed (I could only manually set it to a max of 3), so I also test-tried a manual set of the BIOS memory timing to 3-4-4-10 while the Crucial DDR RAM was installed and then retried the system with only the new DDR2 installed in their appropriate slots (Crucial DDR of course removed).  Still no luck - the system won't get to bios and hangs at the Memory Test per D-Bracket2.  It won't even get to a point where it tries to access/boot from floppy so that I can't run MemoryTest from disk.
Would anyone else out there recommend trying something else, short of going out and shelling out $140 for an ABit AA8-925X mboard that OCZ actually lists as compatible with their RAM?  My MSI 915G-Combo board has been flawless for me up to now and I'd hate to part with it just because it won't work with good OCZ DDR2 ram.  One thing I havn't tried is attempting to use an older BIOS version - I had flashed to the latest v1.7 bios prior to installing the DDR2 ram, so I've never actually tried any of the older versions.  Does anyone think this would be worth a shot?
    Cheers
    - James

Thanks... I tried that.... still no go...
I just got an email from OCZ techsupport (they had requested that I email them directly).
"we have identified a problem with the PC4200 Gold DDR2 dimms, we need to get you a pair with reprogrammed SPD info on them. So we need to swap your kit out"
They were very apologetic about it, and from what I can tell I don't think this happens a lot with OCZ ram...
So that hopefully will be the solution to my problem.. I'm processing an RMA with them right now.. will let you know how it goes.. it's a 'relief' to find out that it most likely isn't my MSI-915G board's fault after all...
Kudos to OCZ at least for getting back to me so quickly, even though it does suck to have my memory delayed again.. I'll post again when I get the replacement RAM and let you all know how it goes...  at least they've identified a problem and are willing to take care of it rather than leaving me hanging...
