OD User home icon not connected in finder?

I Have a user that can login to his OD just fine, all docs etc are there, BUT if he clicks on his home (house) icon in the finder is is misted out and states : exampleuser's account cannot be found" but if he clicks on documents in finder it all connects fine? I need to get into his user library folder as some apps need their prefs trashed, any ideas??

If your Time Capsule is set to be accessed with a password, click on the "Connect..." button under where it said "Connection failed." Enter the password and be sure to click on the "Remember this password" checkbox. This won't mount the TC on your Desktop but it will be connected and should say "Connected as <your user name>". Your backups should start working. If you want to mount the TC, click on its hard drive icon in the same Finder window and it should show up on the Desktop. Whenever you logout/login or restart your Mac, make sure the TC stays connected.
Hope this helps.

  • BT Home hub not connected message

We use my wife's XP sp3 laptop wirelessly at home, but when we use it away from home on a 'paid for' wireless providers network (as no BTFon is avaliable at that location), we occasionally get the BT Home hub not connected message come up in an IE page. How can it be turned off, there is no solution in BT FAQs?

Just for good measure, I would install another web browser while you still have internet access. Then if you have the same problem, try the other web browser and see if that works.
I noticed that you said it says that the Hub is switched off. This is the message that appears when there is no internet connection at all.
Maybe the WiFi had dropped and there was no signal for a small period of time, then when it went to go to the 'page cannot be displayed' screen it redirected you to the 'hub is switched off' message because it had been cached previously.

  • Users home folders not accessible on SMB, OS X 10.6.4

    Hello,
I'm facing this very weird problem upon trying to connect my Windows XP SP3 clients to their respective home folders on Mac OS X Server 10.6.4.
The other shares and public folders however work just fine.
So, upon connecting to the home folder of the user from Windows, (on \\serverIP\username\ ) I keep getting the authentication login form as if I'm typing the wrong username or password.
Of course the user's password is correct.
Oddly enough I can connect and see all the users shares if I go on My Computer and type \\serverIP\ and then enter username and password. I can access the "Users" share and even see other users documents and files!
It used to work very well before a server restart last night, I decided to update to 10.6.4 to see if the problem would go away but no luck.
In the SMB service log I see the following everytime I try to connect directly to the users home folders:
    [2010/06/23 14:29:14, 0, pid=2834] /SourceCache/samba/samba-235.4/samba/source/smbd/service.c:makeconnectionsnum(1047)
'/Network/Servers/macmini-server.solinf.org/Users/silvia' does not exist or permission denied when connecting to [silvia] Error was Host is down
What puzzles me is that if I navigate from shell to /Network/Servers/macmini-server.solinf.org/ I find an alias called "users" that I cannot access.
Anyone has any ideas what is causing this direct access to fail?
    Thanks in advance

    HI,
If you have ClickToFlash installed, that could be a factor.
Also, follow the instructions here to clear the Flash cache.

  • My user name does not show in finder

I recently had to do a re-install of OS X Yosemite on my brand new Macbook Pro due to some files being corrupt during the transfer of my aperture and iTunes librarys from my old iMac to the new Macbook. (Aperture appears to be the problem)
After the re-install everything appeared as a new computer. After signing in to my accounts, I went to "Finder" to open my username and music file to transfer my iTunes library over.  My user name does not appear at all in the Finder sidebar. Have doing something wrong here.

You can customize your Finder sidebar to show whatever you want. Some of the defaults (including the home folder you're talking about) are available by going to Finder menu - Preferences - Sidebar. You can add others by dragging them from the right side of the Finder window into the sidebar.

  • Created Multiple Users & Home Icon Is A Plain'ol Folder Icon?

so i finally took the advice of every OSX security article i've ever read, and created a separate Admin user account. After doing so, i noticed that the 'home' icon in my sidebar, and in my user folder has changed to a regular folder icon. how can i fix this or change it back?

    Hi Aldo!
If you navigate to Computer > HD > Users: isn't there still a Home folder for the original Administrative Account, with the House icon?
When you are logged in with the second account, I believe it is normal to see the Home, appear as a folder, rather than a House icon.
I think there can only be one account with a House icon.

My "Home" folder is not anymore visible in Finder under "Users". This affects some programs that cannot find my files unless I copy them to the "Shared" folder.

  • Home sharing not connecting iTunes to AppleTV

I've been having trouble connecting my iTunes to my AppleTV for the past couple weeks at least.  I can't access any of my downloaded movies or music.  I'm not sure if it's something in a recent update or something?
I have iTunes version 11.1.3 (8) and AppleTV version 6.0.2 (6646.81.1) and I'm on running my iTunes on my MacBook OS X 10.8.5.
    Here's what I've tried:
I have restarted iTunes, my MacBook and the AppleTV
I have reset my Apple TV and set it back up again on my network - all connected to the same network
I have turned off homesharing a few times on both my devices and turned it back on to see if will 'catch' - so to speak
    No luck.
    Any suggestions?

  • External drive icon not showing in finder

Still trying to get an answer to this one. When I plug in a usb or other external drive to my Powerbook (recently upgraded to Leopard), nothing shows in the flinder window (a 'no name' icon usually appears under the 'hard drive' icon).
When i remove the hard drive I get a warning message about removing the external devise properly.
Ive tried other usbs and same thing, so Im guessing it is a problem on the mac side. However, the external drives show up in Disk Utility.
Is there any other way of accessing external connections and opening them, and quitting properly?
    JohnC

You were absolutely right Camelot. I found a 'sidebar' in Finder preferences and the external drive box was unchecked. All fine now.
    Many thanks

  • Hard Drive icon not showing in Finder

Noted this problem prior to SL. Spent a considerable amount of time on phone with Apple technician, nothing he suggested worked. He agreed that installing SL due out in few days would probably solve the problem. It did not. Another long session with an Apple Tech troubleshooting, including a re-install of OS 10.6.1. Nothing. In fact I noticed afterwards that now that not only was the HD not showing, but I could not make the external drive icon and CDetc icons disappear via Finder preferences . Trashed the finder.plist and restarted and that solved that problem but still no HD icon. Well, so what? but I wonder why and if it is indicative of a bug in the system or with MY system and what can be done about it.

If you own DiskWarrior, you can try running it.
Each file and folder has Finder settings in its entry in the directory. One of the settings is to make the item invisible in the Finder. A hard disk is recorded as a folder. Obviously it acts just as a folder, it contains other files and folders. It's just the top level folder. If the invisible setting gets set by some means, who knows how, then the entire hard disk will be invisible. It doesn't matter what version of Mac OS X you are using.
Anyway, DiskWarrior considers the invisible setting being set for the hard drive a corruption and will fix it. That may or may not be your problem, but if you have DiskWarrior you would certainly find out.

  • User Home Directory not being created when "Create Home Now" button hit...

This is a cross post, since I was not sure where this should end up since it touches two pieces- Open Directory and User Management. Any help would be appreciated!
I am running OS X Server 10.5. All of my user accounts have been migrated over along with their home directories. Problem is that when creating new users and then assiging a home directory the system does not actually create the directory.
Currently all users are setup to have their home directory setup here:
afp://172.16.110.100/Users/'username'. The Users folder has been setup to automount, and all users that have folders can be accessed without issue.
The problem is when I create a new user, select the aft://172.16.110.100/Users option and then select "Create Home Now" button and save as it requests... it does not create the directories.
I have even tried to change the Home patch to make it local to see if it was an network issue, and used the /Users choice and it will not create the directory in that way either- both location go to the same place.
The system was obviously able to create the local admin account and directory admin account home folders without issue when the system was installed.
The permissions for the "Users" folder are as follow:
directory admin = Read and Write
    local admin= Read and Write
system user (root)= Read and Write
    admin group= Read Only
    everyone group= Read Only
The system is in production, so any kind of server resets need to be done after 5pm, so I have not been able to reset AFP service.
Currently the only services running are AFP, SMB and Open Directory.
All users have their entire home directories located on the server, and login over Directory Access on their clients, so all user accounts are stored on the server. No one is having issues accessing their files or logging in.
I just can not create new home directories when I create new accounts.

You do not have to be logged on as the root user to do this. Launch the terminal and type-
    sudo createhomedir -a
I run an XServe with Tiger server ( 10.4.11) and this has been the workaround I have been using.
    Good luck.

  • File Icons Not Appearing in Finder

Over the years I have archived projects on CDs and DVDs. I have always worked on Macs. No PC involvement. I have been doing this since 1987. Over the past couple weeks I have noticed that the icons of files (not folders) on my older disks are not appearing. I am using the latest Mac OS 10.8.3 on a MacBook Pro. However, on a friend's older Mac Pro tower (Intel), running an older OS (10.6.8), the file icons do appear. Also, it seems that all folder icons do appear on both systems. I have searched the Internet for an answer. I have a lot of old files that I currently cannot seem to access because of this issue. Can anyone shed any light on this? I think it may be an OS issue.

    Hi,
I was under the impression that the Disk Level info was the bit that had the problem.
I am not sure why I ended up with that thought as you clearly state it is contents type info such as tiffs and the like you cannot "see" for long.
The Site did help with that.
I dug out a old Mag CD with a game on in.
I do not suffer losing sight of any of the files no matter which view I adopt.
It lists the Mac OS Standard as the format and the Roman encoding your Video and pics show.
(Strangely it says it was Modified  and the date is before the listed Modified dates of the files and folder it contains).
I don't have any self created disks from that time to test.
I am at a loss myself now.
Sometimes, as in my Pic, the Applications that were written for OS 9 (Classic era) and earlier have the no entry sign over them.
Other times the items will show a generic file icon as it has "lost" which app it belongs to.  (Which the PRAM reset deals with)
Your files clearly show the icons of the apps that would normally open them.
Files or folders that are normally hidden don't get counted in Quick Look or other forms of veiwing the contents, such as the lower bar in my pic.
It would appear the OS is reading the Disk properly but  then deciding that it is not going to display all of it.
I tried viewing the files on my drive if different views - iCon and Cover Flow for certain - but did not notice any difference in what was presented.
If you have the Disk Open and in the Finder > View Menu > Show View Options and then choose Show Icon Preview do you get to see the tiff files at all ?
I would also try the Size change in the Cover Flow view just to see if it is something about the icon data that is "missing" or being mis-read.
I am clutching at straws at this point.

  • IChat AV mulit user Video Icon not coming up can't do multi video

    Help.
I am trying to use the Multi video conference feature on iChat AV on different G5 dual processor machines but the multi video icon does not appear. My final goal is to host with the machine I am listed here and allow the other users to use theie G4 Power books.
I have tried using Jabber, .Mac, and AIM accounts but none have given me the icon and/or allowed me to set up a multi video conference chat. I am also using all iSight cameras so the environment is pure Apple as it should be.
Any help or show me to a discussion board?

please have a read of this Tiger-updated info:
you still need to run the "cron scripts" manually, once or twice a month is plenty, but there is an enhancement since 10.4.2 that allows to sleep at night, and meant to have the tasks automatically run. Not yet fully reliable though.
