ODAC 10.2.0.2 Install Dies

Hello All,
After a download of ODAC 10.2.0.2 I unpacked and attempted to launch setup.exe. I briefly get the universal installer splash panel and then nothing happens. It's like the Java application simply dies.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Same thing happened recently on my laptop, so I would need to deal with this too...

    I had to replace my PC and am now trying to install CS5.5 on the new Win8.1 system. It won't complete the install (all the way to the end and then dies). • Oracle linux install dies

    Hi all,
    I'm installing Oracle 8.0.5.1 on Redhat 6.1 (with updates from the updater service) and am running into a problem during the intall script. It seems to get most of the way thru the install and then blows up, same place always.
    It's when the startup(put SID here).sql file is being run, to be specific:
    Error during action ''.
    Command: cd /app/oracle/product/8.0.5;
    /app/oracle/product/8.0.5/bin/svrmgl <<!
    @/app/oracle/product/8.0.5/rdbms/admin/startuporax.sql
    I've set all the environment variables in the install notes and am installing as a user called oracle that I created according to the requirements, including their profile.
    Potential issues?:
    I'm using bash as my shell, don't think that makes any difference? I couldn't find anything about setting ipcs process values in the install notes. When I run ipcs I get an empty list of shared memory segments, semaphore arrays, etc.
    Or maybe it's something entirely different. Any clues will be much appreciated.
    Please email me at [email protected] if you know anything.

  • After installing 137137-09 patch OK in global zone, bad in non global zone

    Hi all,
    scratching my head with this one.
    Installed 137137-09 fine on Sun Fire V210. Machine has one non global zone running a proxy server (nothing very exciting there!). non global zone has a local filesystem attached, but don't think this is the issue (on my test V210 I created the same sort of filesystem and was unable to replicate the problem :( ).
    So 137137-09 is fine in the global zone (I had the non global zone halted when patch installed) it is also installed in the non global zone (ie, when zone boots it says it's at rev 137137-09 via uname) in the patch log in the non global zone I get this:
    PKG=SUNWust2.v
    Original package not installed.
    pkgadd: ERROR: ERROR: unable to get zone brand: zonecfg_get_brand: No such zone configured
    This appears to be an attempt to install the same architecture and
    version of a package which is already installed. This installation
    will attempt to overwrite this package.
    /usr/local/zones/cotchin/lu/dev/.SUNW_patches_1000109009-1847556-000000d3e42faa84/137137-09/FJSVcpcu/install/checkinstall: /usr/local/zones/cotchin/lu/dev/.SUNW_patches_1000109009-1847556-000000d3e42faa84/137137-09/FJSVcpcu/install/checkinstall: cannot open
    pkgadd: ERROR: checkinstall script did not complete successfully
    Dryrun complete.
    No changes were made to the system.
    I'm not sure if the branding error is causing the checkinstall postpatch script error or if they are not related. There doesn't seem to be any obvious permissions problems that I can find. I have checked that all the pkg and patch patches are up to date on the system. Searching on the brand error gives me a link to a problem with 127127-11, but that was installed on the system before the local zone was created and all the other seemingly appropriate patches (eg: 119254) are all up to date or at a higher revision than recommended.
    I see the same problem on a M5000 which has two non global zones on it.
    Both machines had the Solaris 10 50/08 update bundle applied when it came out,a nd have had recommended patch sets applied at regular intervals since.
    This issue only came to light when trying the latest bundles with 138888-01/02 in it, and those fail to install on the global zones because the non global zone install dies claiming 137137-09 is not installed (which is plainly wrong).
    I've tried to recreate this on a test server but unfortunately everything works as it should, even though the test server has a similar history in terms of patches and original setup to the others.
    I'm planning to try to detatch the non global zone and try an attach -u to see if it will update the patches properly, but I'm not holding out much hope on that one (I need to wait for a mainteiance window when I can take the zone down in a couple of days).
    Any ideas?

    Well, I am following up to my own post it seems I have determined what is causing the problem, or at least situations where the problem can be reproduced which I have been able to do on my test system.
    It seems that if the zone container's zonepath is in /usr (eg: /usr/zones, /usr/local/zones, or some other path under /usr) the patchadd of 137137-09 will fail with the log similar to posted above, and this will stop further kernel patches (eg: 138888-02) being added.
    The test system had everything patched to current and searching the web I can't find any other instances of this being an issue, but I have reproduced this problem on my test machine (which worked OK because it's test zones were in a filesystem mounted as /zones). When I used zoneadd -z <zonename> move to a zone in /usr/local and applied 137137-09 the same problem came up.
    Not sure what is causing this issue.. I imagine it might have to do with some sort of confusion with the patch utilities and the read-only loopback filesystems in the sparse root zone but I can't bs sure.
    Maybe someone at sun will see this and figure out what the deal is :)
    When I moved my test zone back to /zones the patch applied perfectly so it's definitely having it in /usr or /usr/local (I tried both locations, even though they are seperate ufs filesystems on my test server).
    Oh I am running DiskSuite to mirror filesystems on my V210's which may or may not have anything to do with it.
    Hope this helps someone in the future at least!

    10g is a marketing label. Provide a version number if you still need help. Likely though you can find the answer to your question in the ODP.NET forum or in the metalink support matrix. This is definitely the wrong forum as this forum is for issues related to DATABASE INSTALLATION which is not your issue.

    Based on the size of your flash archive, my best guest would be that you are running into the 2GB file size limit
    for a file located on an NFS mount all of the Solaris 8 Boot CDs have this problem including the 10/01 CDs as well. DAT tapes work on 10/01 only and can be larger than 2GBs, but if you have removable media, like a JAZ or ZIP, or SCSI floppy, and don't have media installed in the drive you get an arithmetic error followed by a core dump, this also applies the Beta Refresh of SOL 9 as well.

  • Which ODAC for 32 bit dev and 64 bit deployment

    We have an environment where the developers work on 32 bit windows workstations using VS2005. The assemblies are created using a specific version of Oracle.DataAccess.dll, in this case 10.2.0.100. When these assemblies are deployed to the 2003 server they are intended to run as 64 bit assemblies.
    Here is the problem, I can not find the 64 bit version of Oracle.DataAccess, version 10.2.0.100. There are versions of ODAC, 2.102.3.2 for example, that work in 64 bit processes but there is no possibility to use that version for coding and debugging.
    What is needed is a Oracle.DataAccess.dll that has BOTH a x86 and AMD64 versions. Is there such a thing?
    What does Oracle recommend when developing in 32 bit environments and deploying to 64 bit environments?
    If we test on 32 bit and then recompile with the 64 bit ODAC this works, but there is no operations group that is going to let you get away with that. The tested assembly needs to be the one that is actually deployed to production.

    I am glad someone is actually taking some time to look at this, thanks.
    You may have hit on someting with the policy file, since I am more of a SQL type than a Oracle type this is something I may have missed. I have tried to redirect from the client version 10.x.x.x to 2.102.3.2 but these do not like to redirect from a higher to a lower version. Can you give me more specifics on how to setup the policy.
    The other issue I have is that we use Vista 32 and 64 bit versions and the only ODT I can get to work is the 11g version. This is also the problem with the current 10r2 ODAC, it just will not install on a 64 bit vista machine. Alll these compatibility issues make seemingly simple tasks very complex.
    My customer generally dictates the Oracle client version, however, in this case that version just will not work, so now I need to solve this myself.
    I am going to setup a 32 bit client with the same version of ODT that you are using and give this a try. I am still skeptical since even a CPU ANY application running on a 64 bit machine (assumming it is actually running in 64 bit mode) still needs AMD64 dlls to access otherwise you will get a BadImageFormatException. And I am not sure how the GAC policy is going to resolve that, but lets give it a try.

  • Creation of new OracleConnection VERY SLOW in VS2008

    Hi all,
    I've only found one other post regarding this issue with the latest version of the oracle data provider (2.111.6.20) on the Oracle Developer Tools for VS Forum (at: Re: Need help troubleshooting extremely slow ODT speeds in VS 2005. Figured I'd post it here to see if anyone else is experiencing problems.
    I've got VS2008 with the latest release of ODAC/Developer tools for VS installed and when I try to just create a connection object (i.e. OracleConnection con = new OracleConnection()), it is taking upwards of 45 seconds to create. Obviously this is unsuitable. Is this a known bug? If so, do I need to revert back to older version of OracleDataAccess assembly as stated in the aforementioned post?
    I'm really looking for a solution with this version however, as I'm trying to work with some UDTs in Oracle and converting to custom types in .NET and from what I've read, this latest version is the only one that can do so. (correct me if I'm wrong).
    Any information is appreciated!

    Hi Greg. Indeed, it is the constructor, which seemed very strange to me. But, here's my latest developments... Guess I failed to mention what platforms I was running on, which I'm pretty sure probably had something to do with it. I had a development environment on both a Vista 64-bit, and a Windows Server 2008 (both VMWare virtual machines). Each had two oracle clients installed, both 11g (instant) and 10gR2 (full), as I needed the 10g client for Quest Code tester (entirely different issue!). Anyway, I'm fairly certain that neither of those platforms are officially supported, so most likely my fault.
    I didn't run your test, but I had something similar set up as follows:
    using System;
    using Oracle.DataAccess.Client;
    using System.Diagnostics;
    namespace oratest
    class Program
    static void Main(string[] args)
    Stopwatch sw = new Stopwatch();
    sw.Start();
    OracleConnection con = new OracleConnection();
    sw.Stop();
    TimeSpan ts = sw.Elapsed;
    Console.WriteLine(ts.Seconds.ToString());
    The results printed ranged from 20-45 seconds!!!
    So, I went ahead and created exactly the same setup on a Vista 32-bit virtual machine. Ran the same test and voila, 0 seconds. If your interested, I ran with the ts.Milliseconds.ToString() in the last line and it resulted in 611 milliseconds. So, I've moved my current project development environment to the new Vista 32-bit virtual machine and it seems to be working fine.
    Just as a side bar however, I've also been doing quite a bit of development on a real (non-virtual) 64-bit Vista machine, and the new ODP has been working just fine. But, I have only the 11g client installed on that machine. Could it be confusion between the multiple versions? Platform issues? Both? Don't know myself, but am content enough to work in my new environment.
    Cheers,

  • Oracle provider Issue in SQL Server 2005

    Hi all,
    On the dev server, I'm using SSAS 2005 (32-bytes) + Oracle provider for OLE DB to access my Oracle Database and it works perfectly.
    On the production server, SSAS 2005 is running on a 64-bytes platform.
    The Oracle client 10.2.0.1.0 (64 bits) has been installed containing the Oracle provider for OLE DB but unfortunately the Oracle provider for OLE DB does not appear in the list in BIDS when trying to create a date source.
    Could someone help ?
    Regards,
    Juan

    After much grief I figured this out and this works for me going from x64 sql 05 on windows server 2003 to x86 oracle 10g on another windows server 2003 box...
    Software Prerequisites
    •     x64 Oracle Client:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10201winx64soft.html
    •     x64 Oracle Data Access Components (ODAC) http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/windows/odpnet/64-bit/index.html
    •     x86 Oracle Client:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10201winsoft.html
    •     SQL Server 2005 SP2 (x64):
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=D07219B2-1E23-49C8-8F0C-63FA18F26D3A&displaylang=en
    Patch Level Required (As of Thursday, July 31, 2008):
    •     Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio: 9.00.3042.00
    •     Microsoft Analysis Services Client Tools: 2005.090.3042.00
    •     Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC): 2000.086.3959.00 (srv03_sp2_rtm.070216-1710)
    •     Microsoft MSXML: 2.6 3.0 4.0 6.0
    •     Microsoft Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.13
    •     Microsoft .NET Framework: 2.0.50727.42
    •     Operating System: 5.2.3790
    •     Oracle Data Access Components (ODAC): 10.2.0.3.00 (64-bit Oracle10g Release 2 ODAC for Windows x64)
    1. install the x64 and x86 oracle clients on the mssql box
    2. install the odac on the mssql
    3. Verify that the registry settings at
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSDTC\MTxOCI and
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\MSDTC\MTxOCI
    are correct:
    a.     OracleOciLib = oci.dll
    b.     OracleSqlLib = orasql10.dll
    c.     OracleXaLib = oraclient10.dll
    4. Verify that your tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files have the correct info to connect to the source Oracle 10g (x86) 32 bit source. Note if there is a DNS or other name resolution problem in the environment you may need to change your host entry in your tnsnames file to be the actual I.P. address of the source Oracle box, until the network issue is resolved by the applicable environments network engineer. Additionally, note that if your client tnsnames.ora file is not configured to match the network topology in use, you will have issues… loopback configurations particularly cause grief.
    5. Update Machine.config Add the following binding policy:
    <runtime>
    <assemblyBinding xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1">
    <dependentAssembly>
    <assemblyIdentity name="Oracle.DataAccess" publicKeyToken="89b483f429c47342" />
    <bindingRedirect oldVersion="2.0.0.0-10.9.9.9" newVersion="2.102.3.2" />
    </dependentAssembly>
    </assemblyBinding>
    </runtime>
    6. Save the following as a *.reg file and run it...
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\MSDTS\Setup\WizardPath]
    @="C:\\Progra~2\\Microsoft SQL Server\\90\\DTS\\Binn\\DTSWizard.exe"
    7. Save the following as a *.bat file...
    rem Progra~2 is short path name for "Program Files (x86)" and works around an Oracle client bug that doesn't like the ()'s in the path
    start /B "C:\Progra~2\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE" "C:\Progra~2\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe"
    8. Save the following as a *.bat file...
    start /B "C:\Progra~2\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE" "C:\Progra~2\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\SqlWb.exe"
    9. Create a shortcut that points to each of the batch files you just created and only launch BIDS or SSMS from those *.bat files...
    10. create your packages, etc., as normal, but you will not be able to fully test them from BIDS or SSMS because they are 32 bit running in 64 bit o/s...
    11. Create a job with a line similar to the following as a cmdexec type of job...
    "C:\Progra~2\Microsoft SQL Server\90\DTS\Binn\DTExec.exe" /FILE "C:\SomeWidget.dtsx" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF
    12. your done...
    Best Regards, from a Las Vegas Bohemian...

  • What lite client installation i should to use for OraOLEDB.Oracle

    I have code in VBScript and connection opens when i use oracle full installation, but when script is used on another client machine installation should be compact. What I should to use for it? I try ODAC xCopy but when i installed oledb with instant client i got "General run error" when script try to open connection. Also I registed manualy OraOleDB11.dll becouse it not registred by xcopy installation.
    strCon = "Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle; Data Source=(DESCRIPTION =(ADDRESS_LIST =(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = hostname)(PORT = 1521)))(CONNECT_DATA =(SERVICE_NAME = serviceName)));User Id=userID;Password=passID;"

    There are two configsets by default. Configset 1 is
    for synchronization and Configset 0 is used by
    provisioning (again, these are default settings).
    You cannot have two odisrv (Provisioning and Synch)
    with the same instance #.
    So, instance 1 could be Provisioning and instance 2
    could be Synch.
    Have you setup your synchronization mapping files?
    I would suggest you use the DIPTester utility to
    setup the synch. It might also be helpful to post the
    commands and the odisrv* logs (not the full dump, but
    the last snippet).Well I was trying to use ConfigSet 1 for synchronization but it either wouldn't let me because of how it is designed or I had screwed it up at that point since I didn't know what numbers to use for anything and it prevented me from using Set1 because of that. In the end I created a ConfigSet 2 and was able to get another instance of ODISRV running with that. That finally got the sync working on a scheduled basis. I'm now trying to get SSO working between OID and ADS and it seems that OID is too stupid to know that a user exists. I log onto the Windows PC into the domain and attempt to go to http://ssoServer.com:7778/pls/portal and login and I get an authorization denied message.
    I have debugging turned on as much as I can and the defaultIsland log file (forget the full filename but its an OC4J file in $ORACLE_HOME\opmn\logs directory). It says that I was denied access because the user could not be found and yet I see the user in the directory tree and it comes back in a search as well. The krbprinicipalname, uid, and orclcommonprinicipalname (I think that's what it's called) are all the same ([email protected]) and the orclusersearchbase is set to dc=mycompany,dc=com so I don't know why the account can't be found.
    ANy ideas on that issue?
