ODBC Connectivity in OWB 10g

Hi,
I have one of my data source as AS400. I have setup a DSN to connect to this data source. I want to know how I can connect using OWB 10g to the AS400 data source using this DSN.
Is there any other way that I could connect to the AS400 data source using OWB 10g without using any additional drivers which involve a cost :-) ?
Thanks for your help in advance.
Thanks & Regards,
Harshad Borgaonkar

Hi Harshad,
You can do this with the heterogeneous services.
http://www.datadirect.com/developer/odbc/oracle_heterogeneous/index.ssp
has a good description of what to do.
You'll have to setup the heterogeneous service on an Oracle database on the same platform for which you have ODBC drivers for, presumably Windows.
You should then be able to connect to this database in OWB and create a connection under Databases -> Other -> ODBC or Other.
Cheers,
Colin

could not locate the setup or translator libraryThe symptom described is typical of an incorrect system env PATH setting (used by the data source admin tool), compared to that of the Oracle Home (specifically, path $OH/bin). The odbc driver config routine will search directories listed in PATH variable for necessary libraries (Client dll's). If some library fails to load (from e.g. oraoci*.dll or oraclient10.dll) it will probably error out, as in your case.
Are you creating the odbc dsn on the databse server host or on some other machine? I.e. are you using the db host as a client or not?

  • How to create ODBC connection between Oracle 10g and MS SQL Server

    Hi,
Can someone help us with the steps to create an ODBC connection between Oracle APPS using Oracle 10g database and MS SQL Server.
Requirement is to extract the transactional data from MS SQL Server on a daily basis and dump it into Oracle tables for an interface to be run. Currently it is being done through Dataloader tool which we feel is causing the data issue with Arabic characters. We want to create the ODBC directly between Oracle and MS SQL Server and check if the data is being pulled correctly.
The data is in sql server 2000 which has data in Arabic_CI_AS character set which is moved to Oracle 10.2.0.3 database with characterset AL32UTF8. The table data is moved to oracle using the dataloader 3.6 standard edition licensed version. We cannot change the character set of Sql Server 2000.
    Please help
    Thanks

    Hi,
If you're trying to PULL data from SQLServer into an Oracle database, you wouldnt use Oracle ODBC driver for that, so you may want to post in the Heterogeneous Services forum instead:
    Heterogeneous Connectivity
If you're trying to PUSH data from SQLServer into an Oracle database, you could use ODBC but most folks use OLEDB for that, and the following note on MOS should help:
How to Create a Sql Server Linked Server With The Oracle Provider for OLE DB     (Doc ID 191368.1)
As with any NLS related issue, the first thing to do is dump the codepoints of the data in the Oracle database to see if it is stored validly, rather than relying on what the data "looks like" from some tool or other. It's best to check a single row, with only a few characters in it if you can, and you can do that via
    SELECT DUMP(<columname>,1016) FROM <tablename> WHERE ...
    Hope it helps,

  • ODBC connection to oracle 10g express

Hi , please i need help in connecting a MS Access file under odbc (System Dsn) to oracle 10g express and how to be accessed in oracle forms 6i , but please if any one can help me by a step by step and more details about that problem i will be so grateful .

    I will explain what I did.Always a good start...
and click on OK button. This way I added new connection. After that I was trying to rename the DSN connection name to SOURCE(Oracle_10g). there is no rename button. So i thought I remove this connection and add again. But when I try to add it. It will not add it. I follow the same procedure as i mentioned above. But finally when I click on OK button. it is not showing any new connection name under User Data Sources list. It is not giving any error messages. The ODBC Manager software is used to define and maintain ODBC connection aliases (aka DSN ). It enumerates the list of available drivers, interact with the driver when you want to use it to create an alias, and then stores the alias when defined.
If this does not work, and the alias is not stored, it is not an Oracle XE problem, but something weird with the ODBC Manager.. or how you go about defining the alias/DSN.
You can create user or system DSN's. You need certain privs (in your Windows account) to enable ODBC Admin to write the required changes to disk for that DSN. Etc.
I suggest focusing on these aspects as I strongly doubt that Oracle itself is part of the problem in this case.

  • Access 2007 ODBC connect to Oracle 10g

I have configured MSAccess 2007 on my laptop with a ODBC data source to my Oracle Database and I can link to tables in the Oracle database and everything works.
I have placed the Access Database on a 64 bit server running Window 2003 r2 Enterprise x64 edition.
I have both the 32 bit Oracle 10g client and the 64 bit client installed on the machine.
I have configured a 32bit ODBC data source using the 32 bit Oracle ODBC driver.
When I click on the test connection button while setting up the data source it reports "Connection Successful"
I have configured the registry entires (for 32 bit and 64bit) with TNS_ADMIN =the location where we have our sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora files.
These files were configured to support the applications which run on this same server and they all function properly.
When I attempt to create a link table in Access, I select the datasource and I enter the password I receive an ORA-12154 error.
    Any suggestions ?
    Thank You

  • ODBC Error while Siebel Server try to connect to Oracle 10G

We have managed to get through with the configuration of siebel server on HP Unix. However before we get to the Database configuration, we are encountering errors with ODBC connection to oracle 10g database. We are able to connect to oracle using sql plus but odbc connection is failing. We verified for patches, missing files, directory access rights - but no clue as of now.
    Our error says:
    Logging into "ENTSIA_DEV_DAN" as "sadmin"....
/user/lib/hpux32/dld.so: Unable to find library 'libclntsh.so'.
    ODBC error IM0003 in SQLConnect:
(DataDirect){ODBC lib} specified driver could not be loaded
Unable to login using specified odbc parameters
This has become a show stopped for us and we are strugging with this for the past three days without much direction.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I guess your DataDirect Driver which gets registered during Database Configuration has some problems.
Can you check whether the DSN is using the proper Driver?
Also, the username through which you are logging in to start Siebel Services must have proper rights.
Many times on Windows platform i have noticied this error in ODBC due to improper user rights. If the rights are not proper, the DataDirect Driver fails to get loaded & throws similar error.

  • OWB 10g to 9i compatibility

I have been working with OWB 10g release2. Now we got other project on 9iDS.
Can I use same 10g OWB client to connect to OWB 9i Repository?
I can connect to OWB 9i repository through TOAD.
When I tried to connect through OWB 10g client,
I am getting error API5022:Cannot connect to the repository.
Is such type of downward compatibility permitted?
    Pavan.

There are no real problems with running two clients on the same machine, installed in two different homes.
But if you have the chance, you might want to migrate the other project to your OWB version and live happily ever after ... :)

  • ODBC Connection Pooling not working with 10g On Windows 2003

I have a bog standard Windows 2003 machine and installed Oracle 10g on it. It seems that the ODBC Connection pooling is not working.
I am using ASP and every time I try and render a simple page it is taking 4-5 seconds which is the time necessaru to create a database connection. ( Machine is 2.8 Ghz Xeon with 2 gigs of Ram)
The following VB Code can be used to test that the pooling is not working. It creates 2 connections to the database. On oracle 10g on windows 2003, it takes 5 seconds to create the first connection, and another 5 seconds to create the second connection.
When you run the same program on windows 2000 and oracle 9, the first connection take 3 seconds, and the second 0.05 seconds. ( The shorter time being due to the connection pooling)
    time1=timer()
    set conn=createobject("adodb.connection")
    Conn.Open "dsn=oracleDSN;uid=yourusername;pwd=yourpassword"
    time2=timer()
    msgbox time2-time1
    conn.close
    set conn=nothing
    time1=timer()
    set conn=createobject("adodb.connection")
    Conn.Open "dsn=oracleDSN;uid=yourusername;pwd=yourpassword"
    time2=timer()
    msgbox time2-time1
    conn.close

ODBC Connection Pooling is controlled by the ODBC Driver Manager and defaults to off for every driver on every platform. Have you enabled connection pooling for your driver in the ODBC Data Source Administrator?

  • OWB 10g R1 - trying to connect to 11g database

    Hi,
Is it possible for OWB 10g R1 (10.1.0.3.0) to connect to a database on Oracle 11g, incidentally it is Oracle 64bit. Currently I am having difficulty when deploying objects, the error message says it cannot find the remote object on the Oracle 11g database.
    Thanks,
    Marlise Burke

    Hi user589658 ,
Do you have the reference to the Metalink document that States that?
We have an old 10g rel 1 repository and we now have to generate mappings to extract from , and populate another 11g database.
The metalink reference would help us to justify to management the upgrade of our OWB repository and clients to 11g
    Thanks

  • Not seeing all DB tables in Crystal using ODBC connection

I have an ODBC connection to an oracle database.  I can connect to the database and see all the tables through tools such as TOAD, SQL developer, SQLPlus, etc.  However, in Crystal, i only see schema tables and not the tables I want.  I am using the same connection, username, and password.  If I run a report that was created in a different environment to the correct tables, I receive the error: ORA00942: table or view does not exist.
    Oracle 10g
    Crystal 12.0.0.683
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Diana Woronuk

    Hi Diana,
Go to File | Options and open the Database tab.
Make sure Tables and Views are checked.  You may want to include Stored Procedures too.
Save the changes and restart Crystal.
You should see your tables now.  If you have more than 200 objects in your database, you may need to use the Table Name Like option to filter out some of the tables.
    Good luck,
    Brian

Oracle Generic Connectivity and Transparent Gateways
Oracle offers two asychronous solutions for information integration: Oracle Generic Connectivity and Oracle Transparent Gateways. Generic connectivity addresses the needs of data access to many data stores for which Oracle does not have a gateway solution. This feature enables transparent connectivity using ODBC. Oracle Transparent Gateways provide the flexibility, power, and scalability to transparently access many non-Oracle data stores, including DB2, Informix, Microsoft SQL Server, Ingres and Sybase, from an Oracle environment.
There is all you want to connect, via an Oracle database, to your informix database.

  • ODBC connection to Oracle 7 will not reset

We are using Oracle JDBC drivers for all but one of our
datasources which is an old Oracle 7 database. The ODBC connection
to this database will not reset when the database is bounced or the
database server is rebooted. We have to restart the ODBC service to
reset the connection. Is there another way to do this automatically
or perhaps another driver out there we can use? We are running
    ColdFusion MX 6.1 Enterprise.

Wow, I can't believe that you are still using Oracle 7. In
fact, unless you are on 7.3.4 you aren’t even Y2K compliant.
Of course, I'm not even sure if there is an upgrade path from 7.x
to 10g, but I would consider migrating off of 7 to anything else.
Otherwise, you are going to have more and more compatibility
problems. In fact, you can no longer even get ODBC drivers from
Oracle for versions older than 9i.
    Good luck.
