Odd Artifact With Transitions

I am making a school movie and have noticed a problem. When I use the "cross dissolve" transition with still photos, there is a flash or hiccup at the end of each transition. This flash is but a fraction of a second, but is very noticeable, and would be quite distracting if it happened after each transition. Has anyone else run across this problem? Is there a fix? I don't know if it happens with other transitions or not.
I would appreciate any feedback!
Thanks.

You were right -- thanks for your insight. If I suppress the Ken Burns feature, the flash is gone. I do not like the way it looks without it, as there is no interest with the photos static. Indeed, it is rather boring, and I would almost prefer not do do it at all in this manner. I also did find that the flash occurred with other transitions in addition to the cross dissolve. I would still like to be able to do this movie the way I want to -- meaning with Ken Burns and any transition I want. Does anyone know of a fix to this problem?
Thank you.

  • Odd issue with transitions...Help!

    OK, I have an odd issue with the transitions going on within Imovie.
    In this case I have the "Photo album" theme.
    About every three slides the "camera" pulls back from one picture (pic 1) and goes in to the other photo (pic 2).
    2/3 of the way into the video the (pic 2) photo is late, so you actually see the switch in the middle of the transition. Pic one is in its place until about half way through.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

    Just found this related thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1903498&start=0&tstart=0
    In there, they suggest a work around using Precision Editor on the transition. I will try this tonight.

  • Unexplained problem with transitions

    Friends,
    I'm having an odd problem with transitions. When I insert a transition, the transition cuts off the last few second of the audio of a clip and repeats the previous few seconds of audio. The video in transitioned appropriately.
    This problem appears in all three of the transitions I've tried.
    Has anyone heard of this? How can I remedy?
    Thanks!
    Steve

    I think I've fixed the problem, albeit in a cumbersome way. Some of the transitiosn were between video and inserted still images. I might have adjusted the still image duration after inserting the transition. Then again, maybe not. Deleting the transition and surrounding clips/images and reinserting seemed to solve the problem. The program seemed to copy over a portion of the "left" clip that was equal in length to the portion of the clip included in the transition, but which occurred just before the transition began, and included that portion in the transition. I don't know if that's clear, but the lesson that I've learned is that transitions should be the second-to-last edit made, just before adding music. They are very termperamental.
    Thanks for your suggestions.

  • Odd artifacts in 32bit comps

    Hi all (mainly Todd),
    I'm experiencing some odd artifacts when using luma mattes in AE CS5.
    If I use a 32bit matte with a 32bit fill, there are some odd "black" artifacts that occur round the fringe of the matte. The AE info panel reports these as having an RGB value of NaN - I've attached an image to demonstrate this:
    I'm using .exr files from R11 of C4D if this makes any difference..
    Cheers
    Dan

    Thanks for the flowers, but I've only recently started to use that sucker again after years of staying away as best as I could (though even then I helped out some friends occasionally) I'm reasonably sure it is an issue in C4D and they are aware of it. I seem to recall that it was "fixed" in one version, but then broke again when they started reworking the render engine in recent versions. I think they're still treating Alpha as 16bit and that seems to conflict with some settings for antialiasing and sampling. Also using some of their render effects like Vector Motion Blur has been known to show this behavior. It's not occurring per se, but seems to be tied to specific combinations of things. Might wanna advise your peopel to chit-chat at NAB about it (and snatch a test license perhaps for investigating?).

  • [SOLVED] Artifacts with EXAPixmap ON and KMS with ATI OSS drivers

    I had some problems for many months on my Arch Linux installation and I couldnt figure out what was causing it, so, because I found the sollution, I wanted to post it here and share it with you.
    I, like others, was experiencing huge artifacts with KMS and EXAPixmaps on, on various cases, visuals and textures. After fiddling with all radeon options in xorg.conf and KMS on/off I found out thats its best for me to have KMS on (I couldnt play wine games otherwise) and EXAPixmaps off. But then again, when EXAPixmaps was off, I had poor 2D performance with KMS on, Xrender acceleration wasnt working and was falling back to software engine. Solution came from something that was brought to my attention in this topic. I ve set ARGB visuals off, raster engine for rendering and tried EXAPixmaps on.
    It worked! Everything are as they supposed to be. Xrender engine and composite manager are finally working, no more artifacts. Framebuffer memory on my radeon card was somehow cleared. I then later found out an awkward solution on how to clear it by demand... Start X with vesa driver... then fix again xorg.conf back to radeon driver and reboot.
    Now I have both 2D and 3D acceleration, I am logged in with KDE and have good performance. My glxgears output is 1000 to 1150 fps (vsync off) and I am using Xrender for the KDE desktop effects.
    EDIT: I must clarify that I have an ATI Radeon 9200 Mobility M9+ (R200 serries)

    I 've made some more edits and this is my current xorg.conf
    http://pastebin.com/x6ubG80K
    I have ColorTiling set on for performance, be careful as it may be resource hungry in 3D apps but it increases dramatically fps.
    You can try setting off EXAPixmaps as well and see how it goes, but then you ll have poor 2D performance and yet videos will play just fine either way.

  • Simple problem with transitions

    Hi everyone
    I am having a small bit of a problem with transitions....
    When I drag a clip from the viewer over the canvas to get the menu bar pop up, and select insert with transition ( cross dissolve ) it puts in a transition but its very short and too fast and when i select it and try to make adjustments it doesn't seem to let me make any changes to the cross dissolve.
    I wander what i am doing wrong?
    Many thanks Tim

    Hi
    Just as David Harbsmeier indicates. Handles
    Transitions are handled differently in iMovie resp FinalCut.
    • iMovie - material that builds the transition is taken from the videoclips = the total length remains same
    • FinalCut (as pro- works) . You have to set of a piece of material in each end of the video clips.
    This is called In- resp. Out-points. The remaining parts are called Handles
    Transitions here are using material from these = Total lenght of movie increase
    per transition.
    I find books/DVDs by Tom Wolsky - Very valubale - Enjoyed them very much.
    • Final Cut Express 4
    • Final Cut Pro 6 - DVD course (now probably version 7)

  • Odd issue with WHERE clause

    Greetings All,
    I'm having an odd issue with a WHERE clause that I've been working on in a Record Set, $upperdate displays as 2011-02-28, $lowerdate as 2011-02-01, but,
    WHERE visitdate >= $lowerdate AND visitdate <= $upperdate
    returns no values, and
    WHERE visitdate >= $lowerdate AND visitdate <= '2011-02-28'
    returns the appropriate values,
    Here is the code for $upperdate and $lowerdate:
    $datemonth = date ('m');
    $dateday = '01';
    $dateday1 = date ('t');
    $dateyear = date ('Y');
    $lowerdate = date("Y-m-d",mktime(0,0,0,$datemonth, $dateday, $dateyear));
    $upperdate = date("Y-m-d",mktime(0,0,0,$datemonth, $dateday1, $dateyear));
    I've also tried the following things to check functionality with no success:
    $upperdate = '2011-02-28';
    $dateday1 = '28';
    BETWEEN...AND... behaves the same as... >=  AND <=
    Thanks for the help in advance!

    Finally worked it out,
    I ended up putting single parentheses around '$lowerdate' and '$upperdate' and it works now.
    It still seems strange, because it worked when I used no parentheses with the variable in:
    WHERE visitdate >= $lowerdate AND visitdate <= '2011-02-28'
    Also, I had tried the parentheses a few other times without success, so maybe there was something else awry that I fixed inadvertantly while messing around.

  • Linking three or more clips with transitions in FCP7

    I am cutting my first lengthy FCP7 project from 15 minutes down to ten.
    There are a few segments of this video which I would like to keep together -- link. None of these clips in these segments are linked together at all (no underlines).
    However, I discover when I use the Command key and darken the two videoclips, the transition between them, and the audio clips that goes underneath all that, the Link function under Modify is greyed out. There's no way to treat these two video clips with transition along with the audio I set under it as a unit.
    Am I doing this wrong or is there a workaround when I want to link multiple clips (i.e. three or more) together, even if it includes a transition between the video clips?
    THANKS.

    Two ways come to mind ... #1  Nest the clips - select (highlight) the clips in the Timeline, then go to Sequence->Nest Items.
    #2  Set an IN and OUT point for the parts you want to combine, then export a self-contained movie.  Import the resulting file into your project and use it to replace the original individual clips .

  • How to move multiple clips with transitions?

    Im still transitioning from FCP7 to FCP 10.1.2 and can't believe I have missed the lesson that explains how to move multiple clips with transitions.
    Up till now I have tried several work arounds including deleting all the transitions then using the (P) Position tool to move the clips from the primary track to some track above it then re adding all the transitions.  This is a function I do on a daily basis.  Am I missing something?  Please help!
    Thank you

    With some further investigation, the transitions have nothing to do with my problem.  In my case there was a tiny “Black gap slug” within the group that was preventing me from being able set it on top of another group of clips or gap someplace.  But even with the gap removed… I can move the clips on top of another group but the transitions stay behind on the primary (Magnetic)
    In the screen shot you can see what happens when I move a group out of the primary (magnetic) timeline onto a gap.  All the transitions get left behind.
    Ive notices that Cutting and pasting will only paste the sequence some other place on the primary (magnetic) timeline for me.
    An example of why I would want to put a cropped/ resized group on top of another group is to do picture in picture effects or if I wanted to create a background behind a set of adjusted clips.

  • LR 2.3 artifacts with NEF files

    I get some strange artifacts with a small number of my NEF files (Nikon D700) and LR 2.3, Here is an example compared to Nikon's Capture NX2. Sharpening is different but it is not the root of the problem, artifacts are still visible with 0 sharpening and no other adjustment.

    Too high of the "Recovery" slider value on an image like this will will cause an ugly discontinuity along the juncture between the brightest areas that the Recovery slider affects and the midtone areas that it doesn't, because the dimmer parts of the bright areas have been darkened more than the brighter parts of the dimmer areas, if that makes sense.
    Use more of the Toning curve and less of the Recovery slider.  Overuse of the Fill slider can have the same affect along the edge between the mid-tone ahd shadow-area boundary.  For an extreme image, I'd probably export to Photoshop and use the more sophisticated and controllable Shadow/Highlights operation.

  • Problem with transition : green screen

    Hi
    i'm using iMovie HD 6.0.3. i work with DV
    i have .avi files from my Camera (Canon ixus 850is), i convert my files in .dv with Visual Hub (i know iMovie can do it).
    *But there is the problem :* when i apply a transition effect or a title, the screen is green.
    Watch my screen print :
    Without transition : http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/1706/withouttransitionnz0.png
    With transition: http://img123.imageshack.us/my.php?image=withtransitionbw8.png
    i try to work with files converted with iMovie, same results
    Help please!
    Regards,
    (i'm french, sorry for my english)

    Ok i succeeded!
    I copy my project from my External HDD (Firewire 800) on my Local HDD.
    I closed iMovie HD
    I erase the imovie plist file
    I re-import the clip (.dv format)
    Great success

  • Loading images with transitions

    Hi,
    trying to have slideshowish thing, loading images with transitions.
    I have this code for first image, what I need to load next images...?
    import fl.transitions.Tween;
    import fl.transitions.TweenEvent;
    import fl.transitions.easing.*;
    import flash.events.*;
    var curTween:Tween = new Tween(1_mc, "alpha", Strong.easeOut, 100, 0, 3, true);
    curTween.addEventListener(TweenEvent.MOTION_FINISH, fadeBackIn);
    function fadeBackIn(event:TweenEvent) {
         var nxtTween:Tween = new Tween(1_mc, "alpha", Strong.easeIn, 0, 100, 3, true);

    i'm not sure that makes sense.  you're fading out 1_mc and then fading it back in.
    normally you would fade out a previous image and fade in the next image.

  • Self-running presentation with transitions & animations on web?

    I want to create a self-running presentation with transitions and animations that I can post on a web site, ideally as a Flash file.  Is this possible with Keynote?  What are my options?

    Thanks, Edward.
    I did some research on the web and the most recent information I can find is for 2009, showing Quicktime with an installation rate of 65% or so.  In my target audience, my guess is the installation rate will be somewhat higher.  So I will switch to Keynote, recreate the presentation (or import it, if I can), and export it to Quicktime as an interim solution.  At less than 100%, I can be reasonably certain that some people who do not have QT installed will simply leave my site rather than download QT to watch my video.
    I'm no programmer so I have no idea how hard it would be, but, as a big-time Apple fan and a long time marketing person, I would say that if Keynote users want to post their presentations (with transitions and animations) on the web, then Apple should support exporting to Flash.  (Of course, I would say the same thing to MS about PP, but w/o the "big-time fan" comment.)
    Thanks again.  You've helped me make progress.

  • Problems with Transitions in FCP Exported Files - How to Fix?

    I have completed an HD 16:9 project which plays properly with transitions in FCP 5.1.4, but when I export it, the transitions have a momentary "blink" to black just as the they begin, and then they complete normally -- a very distracting annoyance. I tried several different transitions, and the same problem occurs. I also tried exporting to several different formats and the problem persists. I also tried applying the flicker filter and the deinterlace filter with no success. I would appreciate any help!

    I would also check to make sure the frame rates between your media and sequence really match. This type of thing has also been seen when working with 24p DV50 material - renders such as transitions were showing time shifts and repeated frames.
    If this is HDV, you might try isolating one offending transition, exporting the clips as AIC and rebuilding an re-rendering it just to see if it helps. If it does, you could probably use media manager to convert all of the clips in your sequence and reconnect automatically.
    Hope this helps -

  • Pr Pro CS4 pictures with transitions over a background

    Hey
    I am working on a photo slideshow with a digi juice jump back as a background
    The digi juice is on track 1- The pics are on track 2 with transitions (transitions applied only in between pics on track 2- no transitions on track 1)  (pics have motion effects so you can see the background most of the time)
    I am just noticing that when I put a transition say spin for example it spins not only the pic but the background behind it (like it's combining track 1 & track 2 when the transition is only applied to track 2)
    I've done this before and never noticed it- but is there a way I can tell Pr Pro CS 4 to ignore track 1 and just apply the effects to track 2 (the pics)
    Maybe someone has experienced this before?
    Thanks
    Tony

    Above are new pics
    Track 1 is red matte with generate- cell pattern video effect on it - but it could be any background even a simple red matte would work- also any background video clip such as digi juice would work to reproduce this glitch
    Track 2 contains two pictures (winter to water lillies) and a zoom transition in between (from winter to water lillies)
    notice that when both pics are scaled to less than 100% in this case 60% the 2nd picture (water lillies) takes the background from track 1 along for the ride during the transition as demonstarted above
    this is a rather disturbing behavior to me- it should ignore track 1 as their is no transition on that track and just zoom from winter to water lillies
    Anyone with ideas on how to work around this bug or a fix of some kind?
    I tried nesting each individual pic scaled down but this reproduces the same results with much more tedious work involved
    Thanks
    Tony
