Odd Audio Prob

Hello,
I've contacted Creative with this problem, but they offered little to no help; so I'll copy and paste what I wrote to them:
After having a new Asus A7n8X Deluxe motherboard placed into my computerI noticed, I've had some audio issues with my Sound Blaster Audigy ES "SB062". The issue is the great annoyance of having no audio when playing MP3, orany audio file format. The only way I can retrieve audio in that file isto hit the STOP or PAUSE button on the media player (Windows Media Player, Real Player), then to hit PLAY again. I wasn't able to find specific drivers on this card, so perhaps I mixed up drivers for the card and this is causing the issue; I'm unsure. Any assitance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Aaron.
In their support letter, they told me to download the Audigy LS drivers, which were to no effect due to the fact I don't have a Sound Blaster Audigy LS. I've noticed this problem affects everything, from video files to audio.

Aarono,
Could you look on your Audio Card and give us the model number off of the card? It usually begins with SB and has 4 numbers in it. Also if you still have the original install CD I could use the contents of the disk.id file that is found in the root directory of the CD (it can be opened with notepad). I need to determine this so I can see if we have drivers online for this card, or if your original install CD would be the best driver package for it.

• KT4VL Audio prob....Help???

I have been trying to setup the sys below now for three weeks. Have used this forum and suggestions with no success, to include MSI Hardware/OS install sequence req.
I am currently using this sys with a fresh install of XP. All BIOS are at default save FSB @ 133 and Audio = disabled.
I have set FSB @ 100 and 133 Enabled/Disabled APIC/ACPI, LAN, USB, Audio etc... in every possible combo.
The minute I enable ANY type of AUDIO device... crash o-matic. This includes Audigy2, Onboard Audio (with or without speakers) and USB Audio.
Without Audio I've run benchmark, system stress/burnin utilities loaded all other drivers without any errors/crashes.
With audio I get BSODs, reboots, Explorer errors, CRC errors, missing/corrupted file errors, service not available errors, but only when any audio device is loaded.
At this point my presumption is a defective mobo, but before I submit for an RMA one last try for any suggestions/opinions. TIA

Never get the chance to uninstall had to reinstall a fresh copy of XP after enabling or connecting any of the mentioned audio devices.
Onboard audio was allways disabled in bios prior to installing windows.
Try latency at 32 and 64 same results.
Cleard CMOS half of the time prior to reinstalling XP. Even remove power and batt for 10 hours twice same results.
I though the same but I've disable all devices that share IRQ's ie... LAN, all USB's
I've tried slot 3,4,6 same same.
I ran the system with all update and latest drivers for up to 8 hours without audio. Enable/Add/Connect an audio device, it will crash in less than 5 min. Once it hits a reboot on next load will run checkdisks-load-reboot, checkdisks-load-reboot, and so on.
Edit: I talked to MSI Tech he said the prob is one of the following: Mobo, CPU, Mem, PSU
Since I have two PSU's and two sitck of Mem and tried both it must be CPU or Mobo
I sent mobo to tech will find out

• [SOLVED] odd audio problem after upgrade w/ VIA VT82xx

Everything was working splendidly until I did pacman -Syu the other day.
Now, sound plays VERY faintly (so much so that you can barely hear it on full volume), and there's audible (but faint) static in the background.  It's ALL sound -- doesn't matter what program I use or whether it goes through ALSA, OSS, or Pulse.  The weird part is that the static gets stronger when my machine does work: if I shut down, for example, the static seems to go along with the disk write noise.  Also, you'd think it'd either work or not work instead of halfway working.
Volumes are all set properly.  I ran alsaconf to no avail.  I get no errors in dmesg, or when I run a program to play audio.
I'm assuming the culprit is the 2.6.30 kernel upgrade, but I'm not entirely sure, as like I said, I upgraded all packages.

Sound is back... Thanks!
Now that it is working.. what is DXS? I cannot find anything useful about it, yet.
EDIT: found it
linux-2.6.git / Documentation / sound / alsa / ALSA-Configuration.txt
1787        dxs_support    - support DXS channels,
1788              0 = auto (default), 1 = enable, 2 = disable,
1789              3 = 48k only, 4 = no VRA, 5 = enable any sample
1790              rate and different sample rates on different

1792              [VIA8233/C, 8235, 8237 only]
1804        Note: VIA8233/5/7 (not VIA8233A) can support DXS (direct sound)
1805          channels as the first PCM.  On these channels, up to 4

• Odd audio question - I think I know the answer... but...

Ok...
Gave 2 dvx's to my sound guy to record our band.
(Yes... problem is already evident)
I walked him thru the line/mic level issue and he assured me he had it under control.
The lock'd down camera by the board would be fed two feeds... BOTH would come in at (quote) "Mic" level. Said he'd hook the board feed thru a direct box that would spit out mic level... and the second feed was a mono mix from two ambient mics. I'd mix in post.
So --
After being upset because the locked off camera was out of focus for both sets... I decided to work on it anyway.
I loaded the Static capture into the viewer and obviously I had two mono fades. As the viewer was playing Right Side audio meter was dancing around 9 and left side was dancing around 6. Sounded fine as I monitored it except for the phasing... no big deal.
Ugh, I thought... he didn't check the levels on the camera inputs.
So I drop it into the timeline and turn off the left side channel... BBBBUUUUUZZZZZZZZZ -- dang thing's pegged!!
What?
Go back to the viewer... dancing at 9... back to the timeline... BBBBUUUUUZZZZZZZZZ -- dang thing's pegged!!
Left side sound fine in the timeline and dances at -6.
ANY clue?
Never had this happen before... any way to take the Right Audio off the viewer and use what ever it is trying to play?

Edit -- Right side of this pic is Viewer audio... Left side is the timeline audio loaded BACK to the viewer...

• Creative soundblaster x-fi xtreme audio PROB

Hello!
Ive just bought a ceati've soundblaster x-fi xtreme audio some days ago but it dosent work properly.
I bought a ( http://www.clasohlson.se/Product/Product.aspx?id=383530 ) becouse i wanted to connect my PC to my reci'ver but i cant choose Spdif in the console launcer.
-It just says unknown or no signal in the Digital I/O menu.
What am i doing wrong?
Help!

The Digital I/O jack on the Xtreme Audio soundcard isn't an optical out jack so you can't use an optical cable directly with the card. If your receiver has coaxial jack, you can get a 3.5mm minijack to coaxial cable to work with the soundcard.

• The odd Audio CD problem

I'm having problems with a few Audio CD's I'm trying to upload to i-Tunes, When I play the CD through either i-Tunes or Windows Media Player there seems to be a loud crackling sound in the background Its happened with a number of audio CD's I have, I thought this wouldn't effect the sound coming through on my i-Touch but it does I hear the same crackling.
Firstly I tried all the CD's that I have problems with on a standard CD player and the sound is perfect so I know its not a CD problem and there isn't a single scratch on either CD.
Secondaly I tried updating all devices but still no hope, I would appreciate any help offered.
Thank You

Open the below link and the click on High Definition Audio Codecs.
http://152.104.125.41/default.aspx
Now you should have Software: Drivers & Utilities page opened.
In this page, click on any GO next to Vista, Windows7 Driver(32/64 bits) Driver only (Executable file).
This will start the download of the driver. Here you need to click SAVE and then select the location of the driver as Desktop. It will take some time to complete the download.
Now you are done with the downloading of the audio drivers from the above steps.
Please click Start. In the Start Search field above the Start button, type DEVMGMT.MSC and press Enter, it opens Device Manager window.
Click on the + sign near Sound, video and game controllers.
Right click on Realtek High Definition Audio and then click on Uninstall. This will uninstall the audio drivers from your computer.
Now we need to click on the downloaded file and then run it to install the audio drivers again.
You may be asked to restart the computer to make the changes effective.

• Can anyone help with Quicktime Pro audio prob?

I've been trying to compress an audio/video file shot on my Cybershot so that I can upload on a contest website. Every time I copy into I-Movie, I have no audio (although it plays fine on my desktop). I was told I-Movie does not support muxed streaming. At Apple's recommendation, I upgraded to Quicktime Pro.
The audio and video both work fine when I play it in Quicktime Pro; but when I export it from Quicktime to either MPEG4 or Quicktime Movie, I get no audio. (Also, the audio setting area is grayed out.) Any suggestions? I need to send the file 320X240 around 15 mb by midnight tonight.
Thanks for the help...

Use the "Export to DV" option. (Any of the sub options will work.) Split into segments if needed for older versions of iMovie.

• Odd audio question

Someone on one of the other shifts keeps changing the audio L/R pan settings. Is there a way to find out what time this is happening by looking at the modified time of a pref file or sometthing? Thanks

hmm, I wouldn't think so.
maybe with dmesg ?

• Odd audio dropouts

I do some free consulting for a local high school broadcast production class, and they have stumped me with an issue: All the audio in each broadcast episode sounds normal in the Final Cut Express project itself and after its imported into iDVD. The problem comes after they burn the DVDs. Their DVDs sound perfectly normal on most computers and in some DVD players. But in other DVD players, selected portions of the audio (specifically segments using an external mic) either get very low or drop out altogether. Through trial and error, we've ruled out this being an issue of DVD brand or format. It seems to have something to do with the mic, but why would they hear those segments perfectly fine when played back on some DVD players but not on others? Any ideas?

I think I see what you're getting at. I'll pass this along to the class and have them look into it.

• So Strange : Video Fine but Audio Prob :((

I've encountered a strange problem in my search for best settings for videos.
For H264 encoding, I tried using settings of:
768 Kbps(video) + 160(audio)--> iTunes transfers to iPod, but iPod just displays black screen for 5-10 secs, and then go back to menu. Settings for as low as,
384 Kbps(video) + 160(audio)--> iTunes transfers to iPod, but iPod just displays black screen for 5-10 secs, and then go back to menu.
But Strangely, video bitrate isnt the problem, since playing with the audio settings i find,
768 Kbps(video) + 96 Kbps(audio) runs fine on iPod, whereas
768 Kbps(video) + 128 Kbps(audio) gives the same problem as above, i.e. video transfers to iPod but doesnt run on it.
For all the above settings, when iPod is connected to PC I am able to run the video from iPod on my PC. But the video just wouldn't run on the iPod until I use a lower audio bitrate, which *** for music.
Note: BTW I use Videora for encoding my videos.

By "toslink" do you mean digital optical cable?  I have tried running a digital optical cable from the ATV to the Sony receiver along with the HDMI cable from the ATV to the Sony reciever and still did not get sound our of the receiver when on the receiver is set play for the HDMI port selected.
Here is the thing.  I have Blue Ray player with a HDMI cable running into the Sony Receiver port and a digital optical cable running from the same Blue Ray player to the Sony Receiver and the sound is fine.  I was doing the same thing with the ATV (but using the DVD port on rhe Sony Receiver for the ATV).

• Stoopido modem/audio prob

Dearest all,
HEEEEEEEELP!
Had my k7n420 since may this year and this problem has always existed;
When my pci modem dials / disconnects it causes the computer to have a quick case of the gitters; audio stutters and the mouse doesnt move. This doesnt happen for more than a second but its a large annoyance all the same. Tried everything to sort this; the onboard audio and modem are not sharing IRQ's, I have the latest drivers for both modem and motherboard and the modem is in PCI slot 4.
What the bleeding heck can I do?!  ;(

Here's how Modular Technology described my modem:
"the correct description is a ‘controllerless modem’, this means that it performs all the modulation and demodulation without taking resource from your PC processor. The PC processor handles only error correction, data compression and dialing control. The term Win-modem simply means that its driver runs under Microsoft Windows."

Modems are far too complicated now-a-days. I miss my ISA modem. Worked like a b*tch on speed and never let me down! Can you get completly hardware-based internal modems now then or not? Problem is i like a nice clear desk, and an ugly box of flashing lights is sure to make me head-butt something. Recommendations greatly appreciated!
