Odd Characters Appearing after Adobe Flash Update

After updating to the latest version of Adobe Flash, there are weird characters showing on the tabs at the top of the screen. I'm a little concerned what this might indicate.

hello ka5biw, this is a displaying flaw caused the mcafee site advisor extension - please try to disable or remove that in case you have it present until there is an update by mcafee that can fix the problem.

As the topic says, the map module is broken after a recent adobe flash update on OSX 10.8.2.  It's just a grey screen now when I go to it, has anyone else had this issue?

Nope, not an issue with the firewall... I connect to google maps fine on every browser, and here is the IP info...

  • Computer Crashes Using Firefox After Adobe Flash Update

    The Problem:
After the latest update, when Firefox fires up the Adobe Flash Player, as in Youtube, etc. as soon as the buffering process begins, the computer freezes for several seconds and then the screen goes black. Then it's total lockamus. The black scream of death. At this point, the only thing left to do is hold in the start button until the computer shuts down. This can and will eventually trash the computer. It's a bad thing.
Reverting to an earlier restore point didn't do a thing to correct the problem.
I have read of this identical situation in a Flash post from last year. I also found a Youtube video about the topic. I didn't watch it.
This is evidently a Flash/Mozilla problem with XP computers. My computer is up to date, dual core, and uses AVG. Somebody else who uses Norton had the same problem. So, in my mind, that lets the virus protection off the hook. I'm not running anything else in the virus vein.
If you'll let me know what you need in the way of information, error logs, whatever, I'll be happy to supply it. More than happy. All I ask is some serious attention on the Adobe end. I use my computer for graphics applications, and this is going to present a serious bottleneck.
It doesn't look to be a totally new form of radiation because such posts go back at least to 2007. I guess it was just my turn. Again, the new update is running fine on my Win 7 computer. Someone suggested a Flash Blocker addon for Firefox. I have it running now. This will at least keep me out of trouble.
Ok, over to you. I'm glad for the fast responses, even though it's a little screwy. You know as well as I do that you aren't sposed to get fast responses when you have a problem.
    Norm

Hmmn. I just sat up and said, "I swear to God." No offense meant. The dadgummed thing is working.
Here was the workaround from late last night, I think.... If you recall, what happened was that I did the restore point previous to the new Flash Install. Well, I kept having to push the button to turn off the frozen computer. For whatever reason, that kept the new install alive, or partially alive.
Finally, when I went shut the thing down properly for the evening, all of the new install poofed. The reason I think this is so is that now today, using your information...
( http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/) .... The version is 10,2,152,26 installed..... Previously it was 10.2.152.26 and under that 10.2r152....
The latest version is 10.2.152.32, I believe. What's running now on my pooter is 10.2.152.26, the earlier version. Am I correct on this?
I suggest that with the next cry for help, you proceed with what you told me about unchecking the hardware acceleration to see if that makes a difference. Personally, for me to see if this works, I'd have to install the latest update again...which I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.
I still say that if you solve this issue for one, you'll solve it for many, and for times to come.
eidnolb, I do thank you el mucho!!! You're doing a fantastic job!!!!!

    ------------------------------------------------- Where we go to------------------------------------------------------
    Hi,
So we meet again:-) That  problem doesn't sound good at all. The first thing is to go to this test  site. Right click on the Flash logo, click on Settings then Display  Settings. UNcheck the hardware acceleration feature.
    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
    See if that helps.
If you have Flash Player Installed in IE, then use that browser also for the test below:
Also  while you are at that site, as soon as it opens you should be able to  see the Flash logo animate(spin). The version of Flash Player you have  Installed is also displayed.  Let me know that.
Also is your system a 64ibt or 32bit?
Now one more thing, look in the plugins for FF and let me know if you have the Shockwave Flash plugin and is it Enabled?

  • Bugs? Pop-ups with raw footage appearing after Adobe Flash Player down-loaded.

Hello! I am confused about what is appearing with my downloading Adobe Flash Player. I have used it before without problems but then I had to download it again to start holiday photos about 10 days ago. I immediately received pop-ups with raw footage (porn) on it. The ads said they were by 'bettersurf,' and 'done...' (something, I can't remember.) They would just pop-up in the middle of anything I was working on. I contacted Windows because it had a logo that looked like Adobe but it said that the windows media player needed to be updated. I'm good on all of that - no need to update. The only way to make it stop (I even blocked the sites from access, had the safety controls on 'strict' and parental safeguards on) was to turn off Adobe Flash Player. Well, I need to get the cards done and so I downloaded it again (with some difficulty I want to add even though I followed instructions to a 't'.) Sure enough I am getting pop-ups from the same ad company as before. I haven't yet seen porn but I'm suspicious. My system is 11.9.900.152 (64) Windows 7. Hopefully I have that right, I think that is the first no. When I check to see if Adobe Flash Player was downloaded correctly, etc. it verifies that it is. Can somebody help me? My daughter is young and I watch her when she is on the computer (I'm actually sitting right with her the whole time,) so I am positive she hasn't downloaded something wrong. And I want to add again that my settings are on strict, pop-ups turned OFF....and the pop-up regarding updating windows to have the flash player work correctly looks very much like a legit site - but I know it isn't.
Thank you so much for any words of advice.

    You're infected.
Those ads DON'T come from Flash Player (or Adobe), but they DO use it to display.
Run a thorough virus scan, and download TDSSKiller to look for "adware".

Hate to suggest this, but you need to ask in the Flash forum. This forum is for Acrobat.

  • Adobe Flash Update infected Firefox with tons of viruses. Help!

I got with one of those annoying fake Adobe Flash Updates, and unfortunately fell for it and installed it, which has infected Firefox (and Chrome, and IE, for that matter) with tons of viruses that I CANNOT get rid of. I'm on a Windows 7 PC.
    Basically, what they do:
    - Adds "Enhanced Text" everywhere (text is underlined and leads to an ad)
    - Adds unwanted banners on sites
    - Frequent pop-ups
    - Redirects my searches (Google is essentially unusable)
    - Can't log-in to certain sites (eBay)
The last two are really killing me and making the internet very hard to enjoy. I've run Malwarebytes several times (first a quick scan, then a full scan), as well as TDSSKiller. Both detected malware and deleted them, but nothing changed. As per the internet's advice, I've tried disabling all my extensions/plug-ins, but doing that didn't help either - many reference specific extensions that cause these problems, like "CCodec" or "ghostery" but nothing like that appears in my add-ons menu. I went into Programs and Features and uninstalled anything suspicious-looking (which somehow lead to half that list disappearing? All my programs are still there, but for whatever reason that list shortened significantly), and still nothing.
I'm really at a loss here. None of my browsers are working properly and nothing I do seems to help.

Looks like you need to be locked and loaded for a virus to come, or just avoid it.
Can you try those scans in safe mode? Safe mode likely will prevent the malware from running at all during the safe mode session.

  • McAfee software forced install with latest Adobe flash update 12/26/14

So it seems that Adobe has once again chosen to go the route of not even giving an opt-out option for whatever 'software' they bundle their Adobe Flash update with. I fail to see how this practice creates anything but mistrust for these products from a consumers perspective. Having worked in  IT and having had to deal with questions like "Why is my browser changed/messed up?" or "Why did X show up on my computer and is now spamming me to buy something?" it's frustrating knowing that in many cases it's large companies that are to blame. In this case it seems even more calculated coming right after a major holiday when inevitably more PC's and more inexperienced users enter the market.
I personally will never use McAfee or Google Chrome or (heaven forbid) Ask.com related software if this is how they intend to do business. I'd like to think that large businesses like Adobe would have better marketing strategies for their sponsors that don't create dissent and distrust among consumers.

Adobe's Flash Player update workflow does present the choice of also getting some "added value" software (e.g., AV - Search Engine stuff for browsers - etc.).
One simply unticks the boxes on the step that displays the choice.
Oh yeah, ya do gotta look rather than do a fast click through which will result in a gotcha eh.
One "gotcha" back in the day was all it took for me to "STAR" these sort of updates.
    No "gotchas" since.
You'll observe similar with other software package updates (e.g., Java, etc.).

  • Update to 3.6.6 clashed with adobe flash update

crash and notification that there are restored pages to be tried in restart of firefox. dialog screen that advises adobe DLM needs to be updated. I removed EVERYTHING adobe from the system, flashes, updater, before I found that there was a cryptic directory in C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\415ltrzs.default\extensions\ containing some adobe garbage. I removed all of that junk too. Now 3.6.6 opens OK. I followed update process for flash as listed on support page(s). Flash seems to work. I'm going to rename the sessionstore.js to the former file to see if I can get the sessions going again after 4 hours of wriggling on this hook. I just thought someone else whould know there could be difficulty with doing a firefox version update at the same time as a session recovery and perhaps an adobe flash update.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== update to 3.6.6 and was prompted to update adobe flash player

What do you specifically mean by "plug in collapse".
