Odd color label in LR5.3-Mac OS 10.8.5

After trying for days to correct flaws in an old scan of an even older photograph, I gave up. In frustration I typed (in the copy name field) the words "I give up !!!!!". It was then that i noticed that this tiff image had a WHITE label. The label will go with copies, but it shows as a "none" label in compare mode or develop mode.
This is, of course, unimportant, as I could easily change the label. However, I am curious to find the cause.
below is a screen capture in library mode.
any hints welcome.
thanks

Jim,
Thanks for your reply. You are absolutely correct/ Checking metadata for color i see the words "I GIVE UP!!!!" in the label fiels/ I thought I was typing ion the copy field.
I had given up understanding what happened but you hit the nail on the head.
I have never used BRIDGE and knew that it had othing to do with the problem. Being clumsy and ignorant was the cause.
Wonderful bit of information. I hope that I can remember it.
thanks so much,
Vince

My Adobe Flash CS6 Color Picker has ODD colors. I'm using Mac Mini OSX 10.8.1. Is there a fix?
I click on the color picker and where I have seen the normal #0000ff blue color on my windows computer, this mac Mountain lion version shows a purple-ish color. Oddly, If I enter the hex # into the color picker, and use it as a fill, the correct color displays on the stage but when i use the eyedropper on that color, it shows it as the purple color again on the toolbar.
I've seen a similar thing like this happen when using adobe photoshop. However, the usual solution is to just make the managed color profile set to monitor RGB. The only downside with Flash is there is no preference to set that. The color palette in Adobe Photoshop displays as it should with the correct blue.
I should also note that I'm using a Samsung 941bw monitor with my mac mini which could also be part of the problem.
I figured i'd make this post anyway just in case it's the OS & Adobe Flash CS6 and not the monitor.
I've included a screenshot as well that shows that i've chosen the purple color and then made a rectangle shape on the stage and it comes out blue.
    Thanks ahead for your response(s)

Seems misleading that on the adobe site for Adobe Flash CS6 it says:
    System requirements:
Mac OS X v10.6.8 or v10.7. Adobe Creative Suite 5, CS5.5, and CS6 applications support Mac OS X Mountain Lion (v10.8) when installed on Intel based systems.**

  • Lightroom 5 color labels appear dark causing mac pro monitor(s) to go black, have to restart, get a kernel panic os 10.7 5

I have a Mac Pro 12 core, with a Nvidia Quadro Pro 4000 video card. I have been using lightroom with this video card since 2011 without a problem. I updated to os 10.7.5, which apple says it is the latest f  and now when i use lightroom (after about 15 minutes),  my monitor goes black, which i am sure is a video card issue which involves lightroom settings, and i have to restart my system. After restart I get a kernel panic report. I unistalled lightroom, and had no crashes. I reinstalled it and i started to get computer crashes again. (not lightroom crashes but computer  -) When i open lightroom, the color labels appear saturated and much darker than usual. I took a screenshot www.jlanceimaging.com/lrscreenshot.jpg.
Since updating to 10.7.5 i have had this issue with lightroom and the video card.
I also went into photoshop an unchecked the graphics processor but still got the crashes.
and last;y, i opened up lightroom 4 and had no problems

You don't say what, if anything, you have done to test, resolve or rule out causes, so you can always assume hard restarts, freezes, and not safe shutdowns will make for more problems (corrupt files, file system, directory, etc).
Running Apple Hardware Test; Reset SMC; repairing your drives; ruling out cables, controllers, external devices, even drivers for printers and other devices.
If you are on a UPS, it should be 1000VA or larger (1300-1500VA). If there are other devices and you could be exceeding the load on circuit breaker, also worth looking into and sometimes requires adding a new circuit line.

  • Lightroom color labels lost on transition from one pc to another

I started using a mac laptop in the field and always used windows pc at home. A portable hard drive holds the lightroom catalog. It's fat32 formatted so it can be used by both mac and windows.
A catalog made by the mac lightroom opens fine in windows. However, all the color labels are lost. The flags and stars are retained.
If a color label is changed on a photo by the windows version of lightroom, then when that catalog is opened on the mac, that photo has no color label. (even though the mac originally gave it a color label)
And all the original color labels that were made by the mac magically return as they were assigned.
To trouble shoot this, I installed the Lightroom 3.6 trial on 2 other pcs - one runs windows 7 32 bit and the other windows 7 64 bit. These installs see the mac created catalog properly.
All the color labels are there and changing one on a windows box is properly reflected on the mac when that catalog is opened.
    This is so annoying.
My main pc must have an allergy to my mac.
I removed and reinstalled lightroom on my pc-same problem.
Now i have to figure out what is interfering with my main pc lightroom install.
It cant be lightroom cause i removed it and reinstalled it. but it might be one of the plug ins i use. these magically reappearred even after i reinstalled lightroom after removing it.
    Anyone have suggestions?

The color labels are preserved between different programs (for instance between Bridge and Lightroom) and I imagine between different LRs on two different computers only when the texts entered as description for the color labels in >Metadata >Color Label Set >Edit is absolutely identical on both computers down to upper / lower case, spaces, numbers, hyphens, etc. If one dexcription for - lets say the red label - deviates from the other by only a semicolon the label will not display properly.

  • How to implement Mac OSX Finder color labels

Is it possible to support color labels for files and folders in Mac OSX Finder in a custom connector? It would be nice to implement this in our connector as it's a common way for users to do some lightweight status workflow.
If it's possible, a code sample would be really helpful.

  • Lr5 lost/did not import my color labels

My Lr4 calalog has all my color labels but when upgrading that calalog to Lr5 - all color labels on images are stripped and I see the label default (Red - Delete, etc)
I went into the Roaming - Adobe - Lightroom folder and found "Label Sets" but I fear what is in there is the Lr5 stuff
Question: How can I get all my Lr5 catalog images to have the same color labels as my Lr4 catalog?
    Thank-you

If your label sets were stored properly in Lightroom 4 they are still in the correct folder in Lightroom 5.
Go to Metadata>Color Label Set> and make certain the correct Label Set is ticked. If it isn't tick it. If it isn't there you will have to open your Lightroom 4 and find out where that Label Set is stored and move it to the proper place.
    How Labels work:
Lightroom looks at the metadata of the Label field and matches the text against the five fields in the Color Label Set. If it matches one, it applies the color. If there is text and it doesn't match any, a White Label is applied. If it doesn't have text - no label is applied.
Give your problem description, you should be seeing a bunch of White labels instead of no label. Is that happening?

  • Color Labels on Network Volumes

    Good afternoon.
I have a unique problem which not even Google can help me with.
We recently implemented a number of SMB/CIFS shares which all our Macs connect to now.
Problem is that when applying a Color Label to a file, the Label drops if the file is modified and then saved.
Oddly enough the action on my own machine, with the same username/password to the same share, maintains the label, unless the file is "saved as".
Now the only difference I can figure is that my own machine is on 10.5.7 while the others are on 10.4.11. Testing on another Leopard machine it also seems to work.
Basically what I need to know is, is this a limitation of Tiger? Is there any way around it? Or is this another problem all together and my assumption is incorrect?

I have the same problem, so what did I do? In MobileMe in the calendar section I deleted all the calendars (duplicates, wrong colors) that were created / showed on my iPod Touch.
NOW I have no color calendars at all and all my events prior to July 2008 are simply gone (still on iCal on my Mac - and I'm checking, let's see YUP even August 2005 and earlier - all on MobileMe is the correct event, correct color.
BUT now I have no calendar colors on the iPod Touch, just about 10 events - recent or future ones - how to RESYNC this with the iPod Touch and have the calendars/colors correct and not duplicated??
Anyone have any ideas? Do I have to stop the PUSH and then update via the cable?
HOW DO I GET ALL MY EVENTS BACK ONTO MY IPOD TOUCH?
A mystery! Thanks for any help!

  • OSX Color Labels -- Visual Implementation

What do people think of how Color Labels are implemented in OSX -- coloring the file name and the whole area around it?
I'm finding this a bit too noticeable/distracting (in contrast to OS9 where sometimes you couldn't see the colors at all on a custom icon).
I'm thinking maybe a colored stroke around the icon would be better (though that might be awkward if icons can have transparent edges?).
Or maybe the filename could have just a thin outline around it (like the current look when you highlight a Color Labeled file, but even thinner) -- and then when you select the file, the whole name turns that color as the highlight.
And yes I would like to be able to edit the color shades too.
And I'll be horrified if, as I read in another post, color labels can get forgotten by OSX. Hope that gets fixed soon as sometimes I use color labels for really important meanings. OSX better not forget the way I position file icons inside a folder as well (one of things that make Windows so gross IMO) or I'm ruined. Which images go with that blue HTML file? Why the blue ones aligned nicely below it in the folder of course.

Have just noticed activity monitor is indicating very unusual activity in something called "TruBlueEnvironment", whatever that is. It is currently accounting for over 95% of CPU activity, and these spikes may be the cause of the beachballs appearing at rather odd times.
For anyone who knows what this may be all about, here are some current stats from the Activity Monitor:
    Threads: 15
    Ports: 227
Context Switches: 3994556 and going up rapidly
    Faults: 19059 (and stationary)

Mach Messages Out: 122817 and going up fast

Can anyone give me some guidance on all of this?

  • Grid View: Flags, Rating, Color Label read only? / Mark Images Read only?

    Hi
I'd like to see the flag-status, rating and color label assigned to an image as cell icons. But if I show them as Cell Icons, I am also able to change them, which happens to me quite often accidentally when I click into the frame of a image to change selections.
Is it possible to show these markers for each image without being able to change them in the frame? I would be quite happy being able to change them from the tool bar, but still being able to see them on the single image.
    Related to this:
Is it somehow possible to mark images as read only, so that further changes (development, metadata etc.) can be made impossible? This would be nice for older images, which have been processed completely and should stay that way, inhibiting accidental changes to images. Sometimes it is difficult to even notice when one accidentally changes metadata on an image.
    Thanks for your thoughts

  • Color Labels not showing across Network

I appreciate any help I can get with this...
We have a 4 macs on this network right now in our Art Dept.
    2 are 1.6GHz PowerPC G5's 1GB RAM
    2 are 800 Mhz Power PC G4's w/ 1GB RAM
    All are running 10.4.5
We have a Buffalo Terastation as our Unix Server with Gigabit Networking.
It is very important for us to be able to see the folder/file color coding system. It is not working on one of our G4's. It will allow me to change the color, but will not be visible from other machines neither will it see the color if it is changed from another machine.
Has anyone else ever had this problem?
What can I do to fix this machine so it understands the color system?
Is there an alternative to the coloring system?
Is there a plugin or expansion for this to add even more colors?
This machine is worthless to us if this does not work...this is a very fast paced environment where we need real-time color labels to constantly know the status of our ads!
    Thanks much!!!

I have been having the same problem and I just discovered a solution. At least it worked for me. One of our computers was connected to the server using cifs instead of afp. Once I reconnected using afp the color labels worked fine.
Select your server on the desktop of the computer you are having problems with and get info. Under General info, see if the Server address starts with afp or something else. Under the Go menu in the finder select Connect to Server... and make sure you put afp:// before the server address and connect.
Hope this helps, if not Good Luck!

  • Change folders color labels

Hi, I want to change the color label of folders which contain specified files, eg movs, jpegs. I don´t want to copy or remove files, because folder size is about 140 GB. The biggest group of files is about 50 GB. I mention this, because I think getting specified finder items could be a problem for my little ibook?
    Thanks in advance

Also for the bug that iTunes doesn't minimize when I double-click the top edge of the window.
    It isn't a bug, it's a feature.
Actually, I kinda like the improvements to the "miniplayer" thing, even though it isn't the same thing as minimizing the app. The only thing I don't like about the miniplayer is the tiny, hard to hit icon used to toggle it on & off, but if I can just remember the Cmd-Option-M shortcut for that I'm OK with that too.
I wouldn't mind filling out a survey before they (Apple) curtained features.
After hanging around ASC for a few years, I have realized that almost everybody has very different ideas about the usefulness of just about every feature Apple has ever implemented. If Apple listened to users, I suspect we would end up with an OS so bloated it wouldn't even be able to crawl, much less run, on most Macs, & the user preferences alone would have so many options nobody could find the ones they wanted without help.
Actually, I think that may already be happening ... but I'm sure everybody has a different opinion about that, too!

  • Color labels distorsion in column view?

My color labels on folders look strangely distorted when in column view: there are two white halfmoons breaking the color at the beginning and end of the label. Has anyone experienced the same or know how to resolve it?

The color highlighting corresponding to the applied label is drawn with half-circles at each end of the entry, but on my system they do not appear anomalous in any way.

  • Color Labels not appearing on server

    Hi All,
We are having trouble seeing the color labels off a Win 2003 Server on our G4 FW800/Panther. All other Macs see them correctly ( G5s, both panther and tiger). AFP volumes on the server w/Appletalk. We also get random Indesign CS2 file loss on the same machine. Just show up as unix files. They all look fine on all other network machines>> Any ideas?
    Thanks

I have been having the exact same issue since 'upgrading' to SL. No solution that I have found. I hope it will be corrected in a point maintenance update.
I am also having frequent disconnects and subsequently can't remount the airport disc volume.

  • Lightroom CC isn't including color labels when images are imported

I've tried this several times, but it doesn't work. Lightroom CC will import metadata and even star ratings, but it won't import the color label data assigned to the images from within Bridge. How can I get that information to be imported?
In other words, working in Bridge CC I assigned star ratings and color labels to a folder full of JPG files. When I import those files into Lightroom CC, the images, metadata and the star ratings are imported, but no color label data was imported. None of the images have color labels when viewed in LR. They still retain the color labels when I view the files in Bridge CC, but they don't appear in LR.

I just struggled with this for an hour. Any changes made to labels inside Lightroom 5 didn't show up in Bridge CC after reading metadata from file, and imports into LR5 did not properly show Bridge CC's label colors. Instead, only a tiny white rectangle at the bottom right of each labeled thumbnail showed in LR5.
Finally figured it out. In the Lightroom 5 file menu up top, go to:
Metadata --> Color Label Set --> Bridge Default (select this option)
'Lightroom Default' was previously selected in mine, as I suspect all Lightroom 5 installs are initially.
Make sure that the names beside each color are identical in both Bridge & LR, or you will still have syncing problems.
    This should fix your problem!

  • Can Bridge not read / see the Finder's color labels...?

I have got a whole stack of images files, in a few nested folders on my Mac, and they have all been painstakingly individually color-labelled in the Finder with various colors.
I now want to manage these files and perform various actions on them, based on their colors, and so I have opened up the folders in Bridge, but Bridge is not showing the colors of the files.
I know Bridge has its own color-labels set-up, but this does not work in conjunction with the Finder, so even if I went through and re-labelled them all in Bridge, the changes would not be reflected in the Finder -- and I do still need to view the color-labels outside of Bridge / in the Finder, because I won't ONLY be using these files from within Bridge.
So, simply put, is there no way I can get Bridge to read and display the color-label information as shown in the Finder?

So, simply put, is there no way I can get Bridge to read and display the
color-label information as shown in the Finder?
No, you can't see those finder labels in Bridge.
There is however a reasonable simply workaround I would think.
In Finder create several new folders, for each label one folder.
Open another Finder window and put this in column mode. Use view options in
Finder and add the column 'label' to the window. Now press on the name label
at top of this column and your labels are selected per color above each
    other.
Drag and drop them manual to the new created folders. And you can easily
repeat this for the other nested folders.
You can also add the new color label folders temporally to the favorite
column left at the finder window so drag and drop is even more easier.
After this in Bridge point to each folder and assign a suitable bridge label
color to it. Now you can work with Bridge color labels
Also in Bridge you have options to rate with stars and add keywords so
filtering has dozens of ways to retrieve your grouped files at once using
    the filter panel.
