Odd contact suddenly appear in my list

I am the technical representative for a barge manufacture in Pa.  All of the sudden over the last couple of days odd contacts have been showing up in our contact lists.  We are on the AT&T network and we use Microsoft Exchange for our email.  I believe it is ether an Apple or an AT&T issue. I have user with Verizon accounts and non-iphones that have no issues.Could this be an icloud issue.  These contact seem to be people we have contacted ether by email or phone.
Any Ideas?

Neither AT&T or Apple has anything to do with contacts on your device.
For what silly reason do you believe the carrier or the manufacturer has anything to do with putting contacts on the device?
Are all devices using the same account for syncing contacts?
Is it the same contact mysteriously appearing on multiple devices?

This is a user to user forum.  Apple isn't here and won't answer you.  You need to contact Apple directly.  You can use the Contact button at the bottom of the screen.

You could check settings > mail contacts and calandars and see if there are any accounts (like icloud gmail yahoo) listed and if they have contacts on. Its possible if contacts were synced to one of these accounts that turning them back on will recover the missing contacts.

Try to restore your iphone via iTunes or update to ios6.1.2.
If itunes gives an error with restoring (DFU/Recovery or just normal)
    try this:
open your computer and search on windows; C://windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts
open up the hosts file in note pad you will see IP adresses and more add another line and put in this:
    #74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
this is a by-pass to the cydia/saurik restore server, it has nothing to do with jailbreaking over voiding apple's warranty
    let me know if succeeded!

  • Newly added contacts suddenly become strangers (not shared their details with you)

A newly added contact suddenly disappears after a few minutes, it's still present in my contact list, but with the gray question mark and "this person has not shared their details with you", even though in the conversation itself it says "<friend> has shared contact details with <myself>". On the other side, it seems like none of this is happening and my friend can still see my status as if I was their contact (which I am). After re-sending the contact request multiple times (which is instantly accepted, it doesn't seem to even display on my friend's side, he just instantly becomes my contact again) it seems to have sorted itself out and that person is now in my contacts, hopefully for good. Now yesterday I added a new contact and the same thing happens, she appears as a stranger about 10 minutes after accepting my contact request, even though it seemed fine on the mobile app while she was online, but now even mobile considers her as not part of my contacts, and also her profile picture isn't displaying on the mobile app. Note : there is already a thread about this in the Skype for Windows Desktop section, however since this problem has clearly nothing to do with the client you're using and is related to the platform/whatever software runs on Microsoft's servers, I'm reposting this here. Skype for Windows Desktop version 6.20.0.104 running on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, and Skype for iPhone version "idon'tknowwhat because there's no "about" page apparently" running on iOS 8.0.2, iPhone 5S. My Skype account isn't linked with any Facebook nor Microsoft account (it was, but it's been unlinked about two months ago). To avoid this thread the same fate as the linked one, that is becoming polluted by some smart-ass that believes everything is caused by a virus, corruption of the Skype folder in AppData or compromised account, let me state this right now : my password was changed, the account isn't compromised (checked with /showplaces and the only logged in clients are my desktop and my iPhone) and the AppData folder was already deleted, without success (it made things worse my making my entire contact list disappear for 24h, fortunately they slowly came back one by one), so if you have nothing to say please refrain from copy/pasting such useless answers.

Hi, I hope someone can help me.  I have a similar problem to Andre (from original post a week ago below).  I only use Skype to communicate with a personal friend who has recently been posted abroad (Europe) to work.  I always sign in via my Microsoft account and have done since Microsoft & Skype merged and I linked the two together.  My contact does the same.  As my accounts are linked, my friend shows up in my contacts both as a Skype contact and also a Messenger contact.  When we communicate, it is normally always via our Skype names although I can see them online under both names.  On Friday night however, they came online but shortly afterwards, I noticed that the grey question mark had appeared next to their Skype name saying 'Person has not shared their contact details with you'.  They are still showing up ok under their Messenger name as it appears as offline, so I have been a bit confused why this has happened and I haven't yet had a chance to speak to my friend to ask them.  I decided to look at the Skype help forum and came across this post by Andre who has had a similar problem, although he says it has happened with a couple of new contacts but his problem has now been resolved.  I was hoping someone could help me and give me some advice as to what I should do now.  I have checked my computer and have the latest Skype version for desktop installed.  I am using Internet Explorer 11; Windows 7 Home version - 64 bit.  I also have the Skype app on my android smartphone which has the most recent updated version.  I don't really use Skype on my phone although I did log-in on late Friday afternoon but didn't stay on long before I signed out.  I have read in posts in the past about corrupted files etc on Skype but because I don't know much about these things,  I don't like to mess about with the programs that are installed on my computer because I don't know what I'm doing. The person who responded to Andre's query was a staff moderator called Aimi, who had previously told him to send the name of the contact in question who had the grey question mark appear beside them.  I would be very grateful if someone could help me with this problem as I would like it sorted out as soon as possible please. Thanks, Linda F. AndréDaniel wrote:A newly added contact suddenly disappears after a few minutes, it's still present in my contact list, but with the gray question mark and "this person has not shared their details with you", even though in the conversation itself it says "<friend> has shared contact details with <myself>". On the other side, it seems like none of this is happening and my friend can still see my status as if I was their contact (which I am). • I recently updated my iPhone 4s to ios6, and lost 1200 odd contacts. I have a backup from about 4-5 months ago avaiable.  Can I add/update contacts from the back up rather than restore which i assume will literally delete any new contacts added...?

I recently updated my iPhone 4s to ios6, and lost 1200 odd contacts. I recently sold my macbook air and also my mac book pro, so have no recent backups avaiable.  I have a backup from about 4-5 months ago available on an external hdd as a time machine backup.  Can I add/update contacts from the back up rather than restore?  The reason i wish to do this is because in the update i didnt lose any messages, so all of the people i have met and networked with since that last update those many months ago, i have in my messages listings.  They are all unidentified numbers at present but over time i will be able to work through the messages and based on the conversation recall who each was with.  Also, yesterday, some two weeks after the update had left my contacts list entirely empty... a vast majority just reappeard, though all of them are without any phone numbers, all just emails or facebook contacts.  This is the work of facebook not mac/ios6 isnt it...?  Any help here would be greatly apprecaited.  I am about 2 days from flying to canada and having those contacts would make life a lot easier.

You should be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc), and not relying on a backup.  If you haven't been doing this, start now and then restore your old backup.  You will then be able to sync the new contacts back into the phone.  However, you will lose all messages, etc newer thant the backup.

  • Motorola Services Contact re-appears after delete and multiple times

I have owned this Motorola Droid 3 for a week or so and I am having problems with Contacts. I have successful syncs with gmail, but I don't know why some contacts continue to reappear and continue to be added in spite of deleting them and in spite of already having a contact with the same name. When one edits a contact I want which is in gmail, scrolling the edit page reveals multiple instances of the same contact labeled "Motorola Services Contac". Then if I delete this contact, after a couple of hours, the deleted contact re-appears with multiple instances again. The multiple instances continue to grow and eventually the contact application boggs down. Can anyone help?

My gmail account contacts are the ones I want. The "Motorola Services contacts" list include the gmail ones, and ones that have been deleted. When I delete all the contacts in the phone by using an App (MyPhoneExplorer), the phone contact list ends up being the precise list that's in gmail, the list I want. A few hours later the "Motorola Services contact" list reappears. Apparently this happens every few hours, as you see repeated instances of all the "Motorola Services contacts" joined as I see by editing a contact. It is as the "Motorola Services contacts" are somewhere in the phone memory. My Backup Assistant list in verizon is empty. I guess I will visit the Verizon rep as I have cleared data areas in the sync services, and any other attempt I make does not cure this problem for me....  Al

  • I need to reset my security questions, I don't have a rescue email and I live in Lebanon (Does not appear in the list of countries for apple calls)

    Hi,
I forgot my security questions and I don't have a rescue email setup.
I serached the internet and the only solution I found for that is to call apple. The proble is there is no phone to call, they have to call you and there is a list of countries.
I live in Lebanon and it does not appear in the list of countries listed for apple customer support call.
How can I reset the security questions.
    thank you

The Three Best Alternatives for Security Questions and Rescue Mail
        1. Use Apple's Express Lane.
Go to https://expresslane.apple.com ; click 'See all products and services' at the
bottom of the page. In the next page click 'More Products and Services, then
'Apple ID'. In the next page select 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Forgotten Apple
ID security questions' and click 'Continue'.
         2.  Call Apple Support in your country: Customer Service: Contact Apple support.
         3.  Rescue email address and how to reset Apple ID security questions.

  • Bridge suddenly appearing in Russian instead of English

By opening Bridge (CS4) yesterday, it suddenly appeared in Russian, instead of English. How to change this back?
Cascam. (Photoshop CS4 is normally running in English)
    Casper Cammeraat

It was my understanding that one could not change the language from the purchased edition, so like I say this is odd.
I would reset the preferences to factory defaults and see if that gets it back to English.  To do this close Bridge and then press and hold the Ctrl key and start Bridge.  You should get a  reset window with 3 options.  Choose all 3.

  • Why is a 'globe' contact available in Global Address List (which belongs to AD), but I cannot find it on AD server?

I have a topic at link:

    Please see the post first.
I dot not make sense about why a 'globe' contact is available in Global Address List (which belongs to AD), but I cannot find it on AD server? I think the cause relates to Exchange server.
Could you give me an explaination!
    Thanks advance.

    And here the Documentation:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb201680.aspx
    Mail contacts
Mail contacts typically contain information about people or organizations that exist outside your Exchange organization. Mail contacts can appear in your organization’s shared address book (also called the global address list or GAL) and other address lists,
and can be added as members to distribution groups. Each contact has an external email address, and all email messages that are sent to a contact are automatically forwarded to that address. Contacts are ideal for representing people external to your Exchange
organization (in the shared address book) who don't need access to any internal resources. The following are mail contact types:
Mail contacts   These are mail-enabled Active Directory contacts that contain information about people or organizations that exist outside your Exchange organization.
Mail forest contacts   These represent recipient objects from another forest. These contacts are typically created by directory synchronization. Mail forest contacts are read-only recipient objects that can be updated or
removed only by means of synchronization. You can't use Exchange management interfaces to modify or remove a mail forest contact.

  • Address book deleted contacts re-appearing - sometimes more than once

I'm having a real problem with .mac, leopard address book and my iphone.
I've got four contacts in my address book that are first names only. Two of these used to be first name and last name. Once I do a sync, these contacts will appear twice - once with first name only, and again with first name last name. I've tried deleting them from all places - .mac, address book and my phone, but as soon as I do a sync again, they re-appear. It's really starting to annoy me.
The other two were always just first name - these two sync perfectly.

Thank you so much for the welcome
This is my my first post, and I posted because after searching the boards I did find a temporary fix to the problem. It appears there are several threads about this problem with Address Book. A sample can be found here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6280012
I have searched for a contact in the "All" group to no avail. Deleting the .abcddb file did correct the problem initially, but the problem returned shortly after. For now I am scrolling through the "All" list to find the contact I'm looking for alphabetically. It's not the end of the world, just an annoying problem. I do end up finding who I need to in the end at least
    Thanks for the reply

  • My photo has suddenly appeared on my emails-how do I remove it?

My photo has suddenly appeared in the upper right hand corner of all my emails. How do I remove it?
At the same time, when I print my emails, the format has chaged. It rearranges my text-if I have breaks, lists, etc it puts the dialogue into continious sentences, ignoring my layout

Remove your photo from your address book card.
Only you see this by the way, it does not get sent.

  • PDK-Java Security manager: controlling portlet appearance in portlet list

    Hi,
The Understanding PDK-Java Portlet Security article says: "Portlet security is handled at two main points in Oracle9iAS Portal. It is used when a user view the list of portlets available from a provider. It is also used when rendering the portlet on a portal page."
I don't see how a portlet can control its appearance in the list of available portlets. Is the article inaccurate, or am I overlooking something?
    Thanks,
    Peter

    The article is correct.
Before showing a portlet in the portlet repository, the provider is contacted by the portal to determine if the current user should be able to see the portlet. This is the isRunnable call.
In release 3.0.9, a feature was added allowing a provider to instruct the portal to cache the results of this call. There are 2 portlet properties associated with this feature:
    <portlet>
    <callIsRunnable>true/false</callIsRunnable>
    <callGetPortlet>true/false</callGetPortlet>
    </portlet>
The second property affects whether a call to get a portlet's metadata is made before displaying it in the portlet repository.
