Odd freeze track behavior

I can't get certain freeze tracks to mute. They aren't effected by the mute button and when I solo other tracks, these freeze tracks continue to play. They do respond to the volume fader and pan. Right now it's just 2 tracks and both are audio tracks. Anyone else have a similar problem?

Hi, You could mute the regions on the track -
Muting regions does not work with Melodyne plugin or Side Chain compressors.
Melodyne works by streaming its audio slices direct inside the channel strips inserts ... so you can only deselect output and/or turn off automation (that usually contain muted parts) and MUTE the channel strip that with automation off never will be turned to ON!.
The same behavior should happen with a "Side Chained" compressors/gate/expander that use the awesome feature of the Logic Mixer!
infact... Side Chain should be another cause for this issue...
That it is not an issue.... this is a great Logic features... just you need to learn how Logic works ("you" is not refered personally to Erik or Jon... it is only a "general" "you" = new logic users)

  • Freeze tracks that use instrument objects: explode by midi channel?

    Hello everyone,
I've hit a CPU and/or Disk speed wall and need to start freezing tracks. I've setup my environment to use "instrument objects" to control my sampler instruments, allowing for most of my instruments to access multiple articulations from one track. Great method for composition/arranging, but unfortunately it makes freezing instruments a challenge!
I know other users employ a similar method in their own Logic setups, and was wondering how do you guys deal with freeze files? Is there an "explode by midi channel" function which will separate a single track into multiple tracks per midi channel, which I can then easily freeze?
In a somewhat related question, how do you guys with similar setups use folders? Can I put all these "exploded" parts back into a folder for organizational purposes?
Thanks in advance for your reply!

    Jonathan,
I'm very very slow to adopting the freezing of tracks to free up resources. I highly doubt that I'll be using it much in the future, because I don't like the fact that the behavior of simple commands like CMD-A doesn't work to select frozen tracks. There are other things about freezing that interrupt my work methods.
I'm very seriously considering getting a second computer to act as an orchestral "module" which I can play via MIDI (over a network, preferably). Based on my experiences during my latest project, doing 4 complex orchestrations, I can see that the amount of time and trouble it takes to freeze tracks/disable instruments to free up resources, and then re-enable them if a change is needed to any given part, will get very long in the tooth after a while. The biggest problem with this is running the risk of Logic crashing when it runs out of RAM.
So for now I'll use the occasional frozen track, or print parts as needed to free up instruments, but budget willing, not for much longer.
    Best,

  • Odd Calc Order Behavior

    Hello all,
I've put together a hybrid analysis cube and I'm experiencing some odd calc order behavior. It appears the years are calculating backwards.
I load my 2007 end balances and calc forward three years. 2008 is correct, but 2009 and 2010 are incorrect. They are incorrect inasmuch as the calcs that require 2008/2009 end balances are incorrect. So I run the script again and now 2009 is right, but 2010 is incorrect. Then I run it once more and 2010 is correct.
It appears the end balances for 2008 and 2009 aren't available for 2009 and 2010, respectively. Thus, I think 2010 is calcing first, but with no 2009 end bals, so it's off. Then 2009 goes, again no end bals, so it's off. Then 2008 calcs, and since 2007 end bals are in there, it's calcing correctly. Thus, I have to calc again two times for 2009 and 2010 to be correct.
    Here's my script:
    Fix (@IRSiblings("2008"),"ScenarioMbr")
    CALC ALL EXCEPT DIM("Years","Scenario");
    Endfix
ScenarioMbr is a level 0 descendant of the Scenario dimension.
Thanks for any help anyone has.

I would suggest checking on your outline order. It sounds like your ending balance hasn't been calculated by the time the beginning balance needs it (as evidenced by your three passes). The order of members in your FIX statement has no bearing on the calculation order. By this, I mean make sure that your Years dimension is ordered as follows...
    Years
    + 2007
    + 2008
    + 2009
    + 2010
Also, make sure that your periods (where your months are is, assuming it is a different dimension) is located above your Years dimension.
Lastly, how are you facilitating getting your Ending balances into your Beginning balances? Sometimes the sequencing for this type of work is improtant as well. For example, if your Ending Balance is a two-pass, it will not be ready until a second pass is done.
IF this doesn't help, maybe provide one of the BegBal members that isn't working, your outline order, the order of the Years dimension, and the dense/sparse settings (assuming BSO).
    Good Luck!!

  • Odd Junk Mail Behavior

I've been experiencing odd Junk Mail behavior on my Mac; I've got the Mail app set so it puts the emails it thinks is Junk in the Junk folder. I do this because I've noticed that certain legitimate emails keep ending up in the Junk folder automatically.
I've also noticed that some of the emails in the Junk folder have not actually been flagged as Junk Mail, they were not colored brown by the Junk Mail rule and there is no button available to tell Mail it's not Junk. How do I stop Mail from flagging something as Junk when it doesn't seem to tag it as Junk but it still ends up in the Junk folder?
I see emails tagged as Junk in the Junk folder that are legit, so I click the "Not Junk" button and move them back to the proper mail folder. But the next time I get mail from the same source, it gets flagged and tagged as Junk again. I thought the Mail app learns from the training we give it. How do I resolve this situation?
I've already set the Junk filtering to not filter emails from recipients who are in my Address Book.

Either you’ve messed with the Preferences > Junk Mail > Advanced settings, or those settings have become corrupt, or you have one or more rules that have a bearing on this.
Assuming it isn’t the latter, try this:
    1. Go to Preferences > Junk Mail, disable junk mail filtering, then enable it again. This resets the rule that governs what the junk filter does.
    2. Choose either Training or Automatic mode (it doesn’t matter) and leave the other options checked. Click Advanced to see how the junk filter rule is defined now if you want, but don’t touch anything there.
    3. Reset the junk filter database (Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset).

  • Can't freeze tracks on "multi output" instruments?

    Hi folks,
Just noticed that freezing tracks on "multi output" instances of instruments (Ultrabeat, EX24) is not an option. Am I missing something here?
    Thanks!

No, you're not missing anything, freeze doesn't work on Multi-out instruments.

  • Still Latency after Freezing tracks... confused.

Up till now, I haven't really had an issue with Latency until I really started running a good amount of tracks. Right now I have 14 tracks with 1 or 2 plug-ins on each channel. Now I'm having some Latency when using the EXS24 from my controller keyboard (or any instrument for that matter)
When opening a fresh NEW project, there is hardly any noticeable Latency when using a stand alone Instrument.
I thought Freezing tracks is supposed to free up CPU, but before and after freezing has hardly any effect for Triggering and Audio input Latency. I'm a former Cubase 4 user and it's never been this bad. I have the same hardware setup. See my sig.
What can we do to optimize for Latency? Is the Apogee Symphony the only answer?

    clank72 wrote:
Don't you hate it when it's always something really simple and stupid? After changing the Recording Delay to 0 and then fixing the Attack on my Logic Instrument most of the Latency went away. The Recording Delay setting must of been "Bumped" when I was adjusting another setting in the preferences.
Recording Delay Compensation is related to fine adjusting sample accuracy setting
with some device/system I need to set it as +/- 50 or similar value..
this is only for be sure about perfect syncronization when an incoming audio signial has been recorded in Logic.
Recording Delay must be change when the audio drivers are direct connected with the A(D converter...
the RME driver does not require adjustment...
    0 set should be o.k.
We ALL have Latency. Wether it's a problem has to do with the person and how many live tracks simotaniously. I notice Latency at even 3ms. Some Vocalists will notice too.
Obvious we all have latency... but I mean... I don't have problem to play a faster part of piano solo with buffer setted as 256 on 48 Khz Sample rate (also 44.1 is good in my sustem
If anyone wants to hear their Latency, try plugging headphones into an outboard/external synth that is plugged into your audio device. Arm a track with the correct input from the synth, then turn up your speakers, put the headphones on only ONE ear and the other ear pointed towards your monitors. Load up a snare or sound with a fast attack on it. Hit the keys and you will notice Latency. It might have a chorus effect on it usually.
Usually I route the same MAIN output mirrored to headphones when recording a single instrument or a Vocal tracks.
I prefer to listen exactly the same audio program during recording phase..
I know this is not a "sound engeener" way...
But I prefer to listem everything during recording ... including FX, reverbs and Delay...
I always use SW set to ON!
I think everything is working good for now. It just bothers me when it's somthing simple and I feel like I wiasted someones time on the forum that has put aside time to help me out...err!
    I'm glad to know that
you are welcome for any additional question
    Thanks!

  • Freeze an behavior

Can I freeze an behavior in the middle for a while ?
Fox example, scroll text, freeze it to make the final paragraph stopped on the screen.
    Many thx

    Yes.
this can be done simply by using the Scroll text Behavior
with Speed Control set to 'fixed'
and using duplicates of the behavior for each time you
would like the text to begin moving again
(the first behavior would have 'start off screen' checked and the rest would not.)
you should be able to work it out by taking a look at this .motn file I've
thrown together as an example: http://files.me.com/lucidmotion/tdb07d
This is one way to do it.
you could also use a move behavior with a custom parameter controlling
the starts and stops with keyframes and you could tweak the curves of these
keyframes if you wanted more control over the ease in and out when the text starts and stops.
Hope I have explained some options clearly enough, I'm sure others can possibly
explain better if you are still stuck.

  • Sudden and odd menu tracking issue

So this morning when I logged in, my menu tracking behavior changed very annoyingly. Normally, when you click on a menu, the menu captures the mouse until the menu is dismissed by selecting an item or clicking outside of it. Now, the menus are behaving more like dialogs in that they are no longer capturing the mouse and I have to click twice on submenus to get them to open. Worse, I can't select sub-menus in context pop-ups the expected way either.
In short, it appers menus just suddenly quit capturing the mouse resulitng in these annoying side effects.
This is system wide. It doesn't matter which user is logged in or which application is running.
Is there a weird setting somewhere my cat might have found?
Yes, I've already done a permission repair and rebooted. I actually did have this happen before, but I'm not going through another OS reinstall for something this stupid.
    Mac OS 10.6.8

    Ryan,
To make sure that I got your info straight:
The file that you are having problems with was originally a PAL MOV file, that was muxed with with PCM WAV audio. You converted it to NTSC, then de-muxed it to a m2v file with PCM WAV Audio. You added the m2v, the WAV (Audio Track 1) and an AC3 Audio (Audio Track 2) to Encore's Timeline. This is the file that you're having problems with. Is this correct? Is the other file (the one that plays perfectly, on a separate Timeline? Was the PAL -> NTSC conversion done on the muxed MOV file, before you split to elemental streams (Video and Audio)? What is the runtime of the MOV file, 01;38;01;00 (1 hr. 38 min 1 sec 0 frames)? Where did the AC3 come from - re-mix of the PCM WAV in 5.1 maybe? Did this file come after you had converted from PAL to NTSC? The DVD9 of this Project, with the same Assets, has no problems, only the DVD5 of this part of the total, right?
In Encore's Timeline, when you Zoom it in to max., and look at the end of the files, do they all line up perfectly?
First, I want to make sure that I'm reading/understanding the specs. of the Project correctly, and also getting a handle on the operations performed so far. This will also provide others with a schematic of your Project and the workflow to produce it. Maybe someone can see a red flag, and suggest a change, or correction. Depending on the answers, I have a hunch, but don't want to waste your time, tilting at windmills.
    Thanks, and good luck,
    Hunt

  • Odd file move behavior

On my startup disk, I have a movie file (.mov) and a folder I want to collect movies in. Straightforward enough.
So I click/drag the .mov file onto the folder. It shows me the green + icon, and when I let go, it COPIES the file into the folder, not by simply MOVING the file from the disktop to the folder. Wha?
When I grab that same file in the folder and move it to the disktop, it works as expected, insisting that it must be DUPLICATED, replacing the disktop, original file.
OK. So instead of doing that, I decide to trash the original file, then move the version out of the folder and back to the disktop.
In order to do that, I use the contextual menu that drops down with Control+mouse click. It now asks me for my administrator password to do the trash move. (???)
Once the original has been tossed, the file will now move from folder to disktop and back to folder with complete impunity. But if I try this with another .mov file, the process starts all over again.
No extra key combo during the original move gets rid of the + icon.
    Permissions were repaired. No change.
Log off was cycled, no change.
Obviously somehow this disk has picked up wierdness when Leopard replaced well-tempered Tiger on it, but where is the checkbox that dumps this odd behavior?
No Right-click on the mighty mouse will bring down the contextual menu at all.

Yea! The Mac is back on track!
It took extra innings and a visit to 1 800 APL CARE to get to the bottom of it, but this therapy should be on everyone's A-list: The Install disk's version of Disk Utility is significantly different from any version you can install on your hard drives. Or so it would appear.
Where the Disk Utility can be there for you on two different hard drives connected to the same computer, running it from different drives is not at all the same - in visible results - as running it directly from the OS X Install Disk.
You can have several disks with OS X on them and run Disk Utility on your main startup disk from those, but they won't find all the messy permissions that are gumming up your system.
It took yet another previous back up Restore cycle, an extra clean install, followed immediately by an Install Disk run of Disk Utility's First Aid/Repair Disk Permissions to clear the cobwebs. Frequent re-weedings (after any program installs or upgrades from anybody, including Apple's own) finds more things to fix. Not always, but frequently.
The Install Disk's Disk Utility--it's not just for breakfast any more.

    - This behavior is seen on both 5Ks
    - I've tried using a different set of ports, changed SFPs, and fibre cabling to no avail
    - I can't seem to understand this behavior?!  In that, why would configuring the port cause the link to go down?
    - If anyone has experience this before, or could shed some light on this behavior, it would be appreciated.

    I had identical issue
Two interfaces on two different FEXes were INACTIVE. I have two Nexus 5596 in vPC and A/A FEXes.
    I also use config-sync feature.
Very same configuration was applied to other ports on other FEXes and they were working with no problems.
    interface Ethernet119/1/1
      inherit port-profile PP-Exchange2003
I checked VLAN status associated with this profile and it was active (of course it was, other ports were ok).
I solved it by removing port profile from this port and re-applied it... voila, port changed state to up!
    Very very strange.

  • Odd/Limited Mouse Behavior

I have an intermittent problem with my mouse behavior in 10.6. Actually, I'm pretty sure I had the same problem in 10.5, it's just a fiendishly intermittent problem that has an as yet undetermined cause & solution. All I know is that it occasionally occurs and eventually resolves itself.
What happens is that I can still click things, scroll, right click to open a more extensive menu, etc., but certain ancillary (yet surprisingly critical) functionality stops working for a time.
For example, hovering my mouse over a link in Safari does not turn the pointer into a "hand with an extended index finger" or does not cause embedded pop up messages to appear (on sites I'm familiar with, no less, so I know they have them). On my Safari browser tabs, the 'x' to close individual tabs does not appear unless I first click on a tab once, and it closes when I click it a second time.
In menus - anywhere, not just in Safari - clicking on File or Edit or View opens the window, but selections do not highlight and track my mouse movements the way they normally do. This makes submenus impossible to use without clicking and holding once I reach the submenu I want to open, and releasing the click when I reach the option I want to select.
The Dock, which I have set to Show/Hide based on my mouse movements, will not pop up when I move my mouse all the way to the bottom of the screen. If I click my mouse once while the pointer is essentially invisible (being at the extreme bottom of the screen), the Dock will sometimes appear, but not always. When it does appear, the icons in the dock do not enlarge/magnify based on my lateral mouse movements the way they normally do.
In iTunes, when I'm watching a TV show or movie in full screen mode, the controller does not appear when I move my mouse the way it normally does.
    And so on.
I have never found a working remedy for this affliction, I usually just have to ride it out, i.e., I deal with the limited functionality until something decides to work right again. I have reset my mouse (it's a wireless Logitech mouse with five buttons, including the scroll wheel, but I had a wired mouse way back in Leopard), I have restarted my Mac, reset Safari, reset my System Preferences, repaired Disk Permissions, I have even junked the entire Preferences folder and restarted. I have also switched to different mice, but they have the same problem while the problem is occurring.
I don't believe this is a settings issue, I think it has something to do with Java or something, which occasionally goes on a holiday.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. I've been enduring the issue the last day and a half and this is the longest it's ever lasted without correcting itself.

Check for any dust in the LED hole. Try using a plain surface, like a solid colored mouse pad, if the surface is on the shiny side. If that does not work...
Try starting up from Mac OS X installation disc. If the mouse is also erratic when booted from another system, you can rule out the 10.5.3 update as the cause.
If it works normally when you are booted from the installation disc, there is probably some issue with your current installation.

  • Odd Port 139 Behavior

    Hi everyone,
I've been running in to some trouble with my university's IT department. They say that my Mac Mini (1.66GHz CoreDuo) has times when it's trying to connect to something via port 139 (netbios-ssn). They claim that it averages over 1 attempt per second. However, in all of my snooping, using Activity Monitor, Network Utility, and Little Snitch, I've never noticed anything odd. I do admit that I might not be observing it at the correct times, but I would like to get to the bottom of this. Currently my IT department has my computer "quarantined" and won't authorize it to access the network again until I can sort this out.
Have any of you heard of something like this before (the 139 connection attempts)?
    Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave DeLong

At least for me, anytime I use a file dialog I get a message from little snitch telling me that it's trying to connect to port 139 - so any time I try to open or save a document, etc. Little Snitch tells me that the program I'm using is trying to connect via port 139.
Same for when I try to choose a network printer.
The snitch tells me about connect attempts over port 139 quite often, but not once per second.
Finder is doubtless doing its own queries to "discover" what's out there on the network.
I have a hard time believing it's even an issue, as every Mac, Linux, and Unix box that tries to connect to the windows shares on the network are going to have similar behavior. The Engineering department alone would be *+up in arms+* over such a policy. **** hath no fury like a few dozen EE students whose computers are banned.
First because it's asinine - a connection attempt over port 139 is fairly innocent; you have to discover what's on the CIFS/SMB (ie. Windows shares) network somehow. Pretty much every non-Microsoft device (including Macs) that can access Windows shares uses "samba", which can be set to periodically ping the network to discover shares on the network. The whole point is so things "plug and play" without the IT manager having to do anything.
SMB/CIFS is a very chatty protocol to begin with...

  • Odd battery/charge behavior

Something odd happened today with my MBP (2011)...  I'm working away with it while it's plugged into power and all of a sudden it starts charging... but I never unplugged it or lost power or anything (and it's on a mondo UPS anyway).
It's been showing 98% instead of 100%, but showing "fully charged" with a green light and from reading the articles from Apple this is totally normal.  I did manage to get it to show 100% after a SMC reset, but after a subsequent reboot it went back to 98%.  Anyway, it actually looks like it's going to charge to 100% now (99% and still showing orange light).
Has anyone seen this behavior?  Normal?  Something to consider going to Apple store about?
    Thanks.

I understand the system will charge when it needs to, but in all my days with MacBook's and the like I've never seen one up and start charging AFTER being plugged in for several days and without any provocation (i.e. unplugging it for a few minutes).
My battery info all looks really good and the condition says "normal" so as long as "normal" is the same as "good" then it's probably fine.  Still odd, but fine.
