Odd hissing noise when inserting PCMCIA card

I'm testing a wireless broadband card (Sierra AC580), and I've encountered a very strange issue. When I insert the PCMCIA card into its slot, I get a loud hissing noise from the left speaker. I can reduce the volume of the noise by moving the card side to side, and sometimes I can transfer it from the left to the right speaker.
Is this some kind of interference issue between the speakers and the cell signal coming from the card? Has anyone else encountered this? The speaker volume has no effect on the volume of the sound. Neither does the mute button (F3).

I have the same sound - my MBP is only a week old as well... If you are not happy with it or are having further problems with it reading cd's or dvd'd then you should take it back to your local apple store.
I know of two other MBP users and they have the same thing... as said on other posts "not very pleasing to the ear"...

  • My dvd drive makes an awful noise when inserting dvd, I have a macbook PRo

My dvd drive makes an awful noise when inserting a dvd. Does that means it needs to be replaced?

It's more like a grinding sound. I was trying to convert  the dvd with Mpeg Streamclip when it started , After that I tried with Handbrakes and got the same sound. I gave it  a rest and inserted another dvd and it was fine. Now I don't know what to do, looks like the drive is ok..

  • Hissing Noise When Hot?

My Macbook Air makes a hissing noise when running hot (a fan?) when running Garageband for a long time (1/2 hour or more). Will it hurt anything to continue running Garageband while it iz doing this?

The processor is designed to shut down before it gets dangerously hot. As well as the fan is designed to run at a maximum speed that will not hurt the fan. The system will protect itself.   Reguardless, what the last posted said. The fan will run at a maximum of 6000rpm when you are runnning processor intensive programs, GarageBand being one of those programs.  Many games and long HD movies will also do this. Nothing to worry about, just the computer working as it should.

  • Kernel panic when I insert PCMCIA card

My PCMCIA slot has started having problems upon insertion of cards.
Some cards seem to work OK - was able to transfer data to an external drive.
OTOH, it no longer detects PCMCIA wireless cards that it detected earlier. And, sometimes, if I push them in a little more firmly to be sure their seated, I get a kernel panic. Because of this mechanical aspect, I suspect a hardware problem.
Cards were pulled out of the slot twice recently -- once probably fairly roughly and quickly.
Unfortunately, I've changed enough things lately that it's hard to say if this a hardware or software issue. (OS 10.2 reinstall, changes of user names, passwords, and the abovementioned hardware abuse.) Permission repair has not fixed this problem.
Apple's service manual seems to suggest that Apple service centers don't bother with repairing PCMCIA cages but replace the whole unit.
I read a posting here recently from someone who had fixed a PCMCIA problem recently by reseating his cable to the motherboard. Wallstreets, unfortunately, don't have such a visible cable connection as he had.
Has anyone out there done maintenance on their own PCMCIA cages? I suspect that pulling the cards out may have loosened the connection to the logic board but I realise clearly that I know next to nothing about what seems to be a fairly involved and delicate electromechanical device (slightly kludgy).
I'd be very grateful for any suggestions on how to proceed or pointers to further information.
    many thanks,
    Pat

Use the grey-labeled OSX Snow Leopard DVD that came with your iMac instead of the Retail one.
If you don't have it anymore, call Apple with ythe serialnumber of your iMac at ahnd and ask for replacement.

  • Problem inserting PCMCIA card

I have a Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS PCMCIA card, and for the life of me, I cannot get it into the PCMCIA slot.  I've tried both the top and bottom every direction and way I can think of.  It simply won't insert.  Any advice?

    Hi Stieffers,
    Welcome to the Lenovo forum
I know just what you mean about the PC card slot... it is *stiff* when new. And the connector may be ever so slightly mis-aligned with the slot. I had the same problem with a different (eSATA) PC Card, I thought I was going crazy! Anyway: the slot you want is the bottom one. Try (gently) pulling up (or possibly pushing down) on the end of your PC Card as you insert it. Don't break anything... but I'm pretty sure you'll be able to insert it. It will get easier on subsequent insertions.
    Good luck!

  • Odd whine noise, when short sounds stop suddenly

I have an issue which seems to mostly occur after a short sound file finishes - for example, an instant message chime, or being told I have new mail.
I get a high pitched whine out of the speakers, until I hit play on another sound file.
So I'll have new mail, notification sound, then high pitched whine. If I hit play on iTunes, the whine stops. I can then stop iTunes and sit without whine noise.
Sometimes if I close a browser window which was playing audio via YouTube or something, it does the same.
It's almost like it doesn't realise the sound has finished and is still trying to play it.
Anyone else get this, or is it just me?

Can't really reproduce it, no. It happens sporadically.
I don't know when it started - possibly quite early on. It only makes the noise when music stops.
Play something and stop it again, and it's fine.
It's almost as if it doesn't really it's finished and continues trying to play something but has nothing to play.
    Odd.

  • Odd noise when inserting a disk

I have a brand new macbook pro, less than a week old, and from the day I got it, every time I insert a disk, it makes this loud popping/clicking noise. Is this normal or maybe there is something wrong?

  • Aperture no longer asks to import when inserting SD card

Just got Aperture the other day and when I plugged in an SD card to my iMac, it would see it, show the pics, and ask if I wanted to import them. After import it would ask if I wanted to delete the pictures on the SD card. The last time I did it, I chose to NOT delete the pics on the card. Then, in my camera (Canon T3i) I deleted all the pictures on the card. I took some more pictures, and now when I plug in my SD card (into the mac), Aperture comes up, but nothing happens. I then have to select File -> Import -> Files to add the pictures. What happened?
    Thanks

Have you tried to remove the Aperture Preferences file? This quite often helps "with odd ball problems" (as HangTimecalls them) when the graphical user interface is behaving strangly - to remove the preferences do the following:
    Delete the user preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Aperture back to its original settings. This will not impact your image files or your library. To reset your Aperture user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
    Quit Aperture.
In the Finder choose Go to folder from the Go menu.
Type~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field. Press the Go button.
Remove the "com.apple.Aperture.plist" file from the Preferences folder.

  • Noise when inserting cd/dvd

I have a new MB, purchased a couple of weeks ago, and I have noted that when I insert a CD or DVD it makes a lot of noise. The noise seems like a clunking. Does this seem normal. My imac does not do this when I insert a cd into it. Thanks.

I am having similar issues. It doesn't sound right, but apparently the noises are "normal." I found this webpage that has samples of noises your CD/DVD drive might make:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1723?viewlocale=en_US
Apparently the noise coming from my computer is in fact common and I should not be worried about it, but I think I'm going to call Apple support anyway

  • Hissing noise when using in-ear earphones

I decided to upgrade from the Apple standard earphones of the Shuffle to some noise isolating in-ear earphones. Since the top range stuff (Shure, Etymotic) didnt quite fit into my budget I bought a pair of Creative EP-630 ($30) since I read some decent reviews on Amazon.
Now the earphones do live up to my expectations and deliver some great sound but the combination with the Shuffle gives me quite a headache. Plugging the earphones into my computer or some other (low budget) mp3 players they sound awesome, there is no background noise whatsoever and between songs or when you hit 'Pause' there is silence as it is supposed to be.
When I plug them into my shuffle however, it is far from the 'chrystal clear sound' that I expected. First, when you turn on the Shuffle, you hear two high pitched feeps, when you turn it of, you get a short stakkato of feeps that reminds me of the dial in procedure of old computer modems for the anlogue telephone line.
The biggest problem is of course the noise during playback, there is a constant high pitched, hissing, feeping background noise which becomes especially obvious during quiet parts, between songs and even if you hit 'Pause'! The same thing is described at the following site for another pair of (high quality) in-ear earphones:
    http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/15118/163354.html
The author there describes it as a 'grasshopper' noise, which is very much to the point when you hear it.
This is quite a disturbing result, considering all the raving reviews that Shuffle got for audio quality:
    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1777890,00.asp
Now I am wondering if there is a faulty batch of Shuffles out there of which I happen to own one, or is it possible that there is a general problem of the Shuffle working together with these kind of earphones? The Shuffle using other earphones sounds great and my new in-ear earphones using other players also sound great... just the combination delivers unbearable audio.
I would appreciate any feedback, especially if anybody from Apple happens to come across this post!

Sounds like unless I misunderstand that it's only a problem with non standard headphones. What others are you using?

  • H: not found when insert the card of flash drive for auto import In Lightroom CC

when i try to auto import Inside Lightroom 6 or CC getting an error "H: not found" as soon as i plug the memory card or any flash drive to the computer. i'm using lightroom CC win 7 64 bit

Lightroom does reliably write capture time to industry-standard metadata fields in photos.   If you are indeed using the File > Import command a second time to re-import the photos after first importing them into LR, what's likely happening is that you're not telling LR to write the metadata changes back to the photos.  There are two ways to do this:  1) Select all the photos and do Metadata > Save Metadata To File, or 2) Select the option Catalog Settings > Automatically Write Changes Into XMP.
If this does not fix the issue, then you'll need to provide more detail about the precise steps you're taking, with command names and options.
direct Lightroom to change each photo file name to match its new capture date
Stepping back, re-importing the photos back into LR isn't necessary to rename photos with their capture date -- use the Library > Rename Photos command.

  • Odd buzzing noise when on BOTH AC & Battery

My PowerBook has a strange "buzz" that sounds like white noise (or crickets, like my old G5 used to) when it is plugged into the adapter AND with the battery in. When the notebook is on just battery or just AC power, there is no noise.
    What is my problem?

Hi, I had the same problem, at least symptoms. Changing energy usage to low worked fine, but I use graphic intensive software so I need the high performance output. I posted the below information on a separate article as well, but I wanted to share it in case anyone has the same problem and wants a possible better fix.
    --- previously posted---
I recently had a loud screeching buzzing noise, not the very faint hard drive or fan sound, but a loud annoying sound. After searching hours online, I found an answer for the problem. (in my case at least)
If you have any speakers plugged into the same energy source (i.e. powerstrip), that may be the problem. I unplugged a set of Sony speakers I had running along the same chain of AC powerstrip outlets, and the noise was gone. The article I found was here: (look for the post by "ST" about midway down this page:

  • Muvo N200 hissing noise when encod

I recorded a 60 kbps MP3 sample, with NO audio source connected to the line-in connector.
Spectral display of recorded MP3 file shows +20 dB over noise floor spectral lines at 7700 Hz (left channel) and 9000 Hz (right channel), clearly audible.
When audio input was applied, spectral display shows distinct spectrum aliasing around the above mentioned frequencies.
This means that usable audio band without aliasing effects is limited to 4 KHz, which is enough for voice recordings but clearly unacceptable for music recordings.
Subsequent recordings show that these aliasing frequencies vary from 7500 to 0000 hz, always audible.
I find this highly unacceptable from a quality product like this, so I ask if anybody else has experienced this problem and if the technical support has a clear explanation for this.
    Regards
    Maxm

I would like to see an improved mic in a future model, so that students can adequately record lectures given in large lecture halls. Perhaps the line in could be removed from the standard model, and a premiun model released with a very high quality line in? Most people don't need a line in, however if a line in is provided, then it should be very high quality.

  • Odd clicking noise when connecting to my macs

My friends from Switzerland brought his ipod that just stopped working, when I plugged it to the outlet the machine powers up but when we remove it fails to transfer over to the battery. Now I concluded (with some help here) that there must be something wrong with the battery. But when I plug it to the USB 2.0 ports on the Quad G4 I hear a click or beeping sound like it is trying to load it but it can't. Now it is windows formated but it should appear with at least a message on my machine. Could the USB 2.0 chip also be fried since USB 2.0 was never originally designed to carry power like Firewire was. If it is then should I buy him a new one or replace the motherboard myself.

Did you not see what happened in the Eniac's?
