Odd lines in 16:9 anamorphic export

so i have a feature length documentary i've been working on. we play wednsday. we had an export we thought was fine, but when screening it beforehand, we found grey lines in the middle of the dvd. so ill describe it all from square one.
we had a 4x3 version of the film, shot in mini dv and brought onto a 4x3 timeline. when the color correction, cutting, and audio were complete, i transferred the footage to a 16x9 anamorphic timeline....dv ntsc. i scaled up the images in the motion tab, in a nest, so that they fit into the 16x9 area. we sacrificed a bit of image quality, but we had a nice aspect ratio.
now when i export the movie, and watch it as a file in quicktime, or on a burned dvd, the exported version occasionally has these odd greyish lines going horizontally through the screen. theyre very wide apart, maybe seven of them on the screen at once, spaced far, and theyre not quite grey but dark lines that are as if they have a low opacity. ill upload a screenshot so you all can see
the scan lines are faint in this screenshot but are heavily dark on a dvd. They do not appear in my timeline whatsoever. What the devil is happening!?

im sorry for the jpeg quality. theyre not diagonal lines, theyre horizontal. and they didnt come out in the picture at all, but i guarantee you on a projector, theyre magnificently dark and stand out like mad. its so odd. ive tried it in many dvd players, three so far, and it shows up in each. horizontal lines, that are somewhat opaque but still visible. like the "ghosting" you see on a tv that uses an antennae? only seven or so lines, spaced apart evenly. the second picture i posted, if you zoom in to the girl's cheek, you can see one of the line intersecting the white hotspot on her cheek

  • Odd lines around text in dissolve

    Hi Folks,
I have been experiencing some odd lines around text when I am dissolving and can't figure out why. The text is generated from FCP and these lines only appear after rendering. Prior to rendering I can step through the dissolve and all is well. I have tried changing the compressor setting for the sequence to all flavors of ProRes, and even uncompressed, and it has no effect. The only thing that did have an effect was to change to an additive dissolve from a cross dissolve. However this makes the dissolve less linear and unacceptable.
All of the effects handling is being done by Final Cut so there's no third party hardware in the mix. I am running on a 17" MacBook Pro, OS 10.5.8 and FCP 7.0.1 with motion filtering set to best.
Additionally here is a link to an image grabbed from the timeline showing what I am experiencing.

I tried the Outlined Text generator and still have the issue. If I add an outline it actually gets worse. I did however try Boris and with that it goes away. This is really odd and I wish I knew what was causing it. For now though I guess I stick with Boris.

  • Printing odd lines in bold!? - HPM1522

    Hi all,
Im having a problem printing hires PDF files of a document on a HPM1522.
My file uses Arial narrow (we've also tried verdana) which are standard Mac/PC fonts and yet everytime we print it off we get this happening throughout the document....
Now we've had a few digitally printed at a local printers and they came out perfect, no odd bolding lines at all, and yet on the inhouse HPM1522 the odd lines keep bolding out?!
Does anyone know why?....I've already tried saving the file as different PDF versions but nothing seems to change.
PDF's are created from InDesign CS3 on OSX 10.2.6, sent to a PC with XP before being sent to the printer.
    Thanks
    Andy
PS. We've just tried opening a sample page in Photoshop and resaving as a Photoshop PDF and it prints perfect.
However it's not really feasable to open every page of each document just to resave as a Photoshop PDF. I guess this implies that it's a PDF issue?

It sounds like your black cartridge has an electrical issue, causing the bottom half of the nozzles to not fire.  You may be able to recover the cartridge by cleaning the contacts as shown here.  Printing in "best" mode may provide a workaround before you can get a fresh cartridge.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 - Black flickering lines during playback and when exporting video

I am fairly new to Premiere and have recently started using creative cloud on my new MacBook Pro retina - 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - OSX Version 10.9.4
I shot a music video using my friends camera and all the shots were absolutely fine, I dropped them into Premiere and started editing the video together.
Some of the clips are perfectly fine during playback, although sometimes my playback stutters a little, but some of the clips have strange horizontal lines that flash through them when I watch it back. I have only used basic things such as the highlight/shadow and sharpen tools in Premiere. I thought that it maybe fine once I exported the video but when I open up the exported file on my desktop in Quicktime the little black flashes/glitches are still there in some of the shots.
Here is a screenshot you can see a line halfway between the top of my head and the top of the screen, when you watch the video there are lots of these flashing about.
Could this be something that I have set up wrong?
    CPU/GPU related?
    Thanks,
    Jordan

  • I have small black lines that appeared after I exported from word to PDF. I can't remove them.

I can't edit/delete the black lines with content editing or form editing (they are not selectable, just like a line that was created in word prior to export), and when I tried to write a white line over it with a comment mark up, it does not show when opened with adobe.
Further, redaction with a white box erased nearby text or text boxes.
How can I white out/remove these small lines?
I'm using Yosemite OS X with a macbook pro, acrobat XI.
    Thanks!

    Hi ,
Could you please tell is that some specific file in which those black lines have appeared or are there any other files as well ?
You can try exporting another test file to PDF and compare the results .
Will it be possible for you to share the file with us so that we can analyze at our end ?If yes ,please share it on [email protected] .
You could also send us the screen shot of the files ( both after and before export) so that we can have a look how it looks and what is the method to remove those lines.

  • Thin black line across Indesign CS4 doc exported to PDF

Hi ... am using Indesign CS4 on OS Windows XP and exporting docs to PDF (Acrobat 9 Professional) then printing on a HP Colour LaserJet CP2025.
I'm getting a thin black line across the bottom of the page when printing - it doesn't show up on the screen though.  The line sits 5mm above the bottom edge of the page and prints whether I have bleed set or not in Indesign.
Have tried toggling scaling, printer's marks settings, printer settings,Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional settings with no joy.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi all,
EUREKA!   Looks like it's finally fixed ...
One of my printer (HP Colour Laser Jet CP2025) has an advanced printer property, under printer features, called "Print Data Optimization" - this was set to "Auto" - I changed it to "Optimise for Text and Vector" and voila!  Thin black line has disappeared and I'm happily reprinting a bunch of documents ...
Thanks everyone for your advice and input - saved my sanity

  • Lines too dark in PDF exported from Illustrator

    Hi there!
When I export from Illustrator to PDF, all lines in the design looks black, when they are light grey in the original file.
    Here the examples:
    Any ideas?
    Thanks a lot!

Did you use Export in Illustrator or the Acrobat process. The Acrobat process would need to have the display resolution and such set to an appropriate setting. If you did the export, then you may have to look at the properties of the export process in Illustrator, not Acrobat.

    Hi there!
When I export from Illustrator to PDF, all lines in the design looks black, when they are light grey in the original file.
    Here the examples:
    Thanks a lot!

Do you feel that this is a swetting that you would like to be able to set per document so that when it is opened by someone else this feature is turned off?
Or would you prefer to have this setting turned off by default?
Would you perhaps think that a warning stating that the document contains thin lines and to see them more accurately the user has to turn it off in the preferences would bve sufficient in case the user would not be so concerned acccurac but is more worried about their vision?
And yet perhaps a way to set this up in the preferences on the authors side so that when such a document is opened the user is given a choice of how they would like this setting configured in the future?

  • What are the odd lines on the header bar of Firefox for Mac 10.6.8?

Occasionally, FF gets these odd, jagged lines in the header bar. Hard to explain: https://skitch.com/dancapistan/gtu4g/firefox-lines
The lines seem to be different in shape and color each time.
When I restart FF, the lines go away for a time.

I have Firefox 9.0.1 and Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I have also had the problem of errors in the Firefox graphic user interface (GUI) that appear as jagged lines and pixels over the title bar, back and forward buttons, over words in the address bar and in the Google search box, and over tabs. If I continue to use Firefox when this happens, Firefox and the Mac OS will freeze within a minute or two. I then have to shut down the computer and restart, as I can not Force Quit Firefox from the Firefox dock icon or from the Apple menu icon at the left of the Mac OS menu bar, which is at the top of the screen. I have not tried the Command + Option + Escape keyboard combination yet to see if this will bring up the Force Quit window.
I have used Firefox for years and never had problems like this before. Firefox 3.6 on Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 was stable. I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Firefox 8, which had the same problems as Firefox 9. To make sure that the problem was not an OS upgrade issue, I erased and formatted my hard drive and did a clean install of Snow Leopard, but Firefox 9 is still apparently unstable. I have not noticed similar problems with iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, Pages or Safari, but I do not use these applications as heavily. For a short while, I tried Firefox 3.6 on Snow Leopard, and it seemed to be stable, without the problems of Firefox 8 & 9. If I continue to have problems with Firefox 9, I plan to go back to Firefox 3.6 for a longer period to see if it remains stable.

  • Anamorphic Exporting Agony (16:9 Pal)

    Hello all,
A little while back I shot and edited a 11 minute corporate video. I shot it in DVPal 16:9. I had no problems editing it in FCP and exporting it using Quicktime Conversion, using the Broadcast (High, Med & Low) settings. The files came out widescreen 16:9 anamorphic, high quality image with pretty black bars on top and bottom.
The sequence presets are set to anamorphic and the video has been captured as anamorphic.
Now, the client asked for a shorter version with subtitles added to it. Easy, I thought. I used a couple of the sequences I used before. And in between them I cut together footage from two other sequences. So we have a sequence with nested sequences and clips. In the first video track I placed a white color bar (same as I had in the previous 11 minute video). On top of the footage I added the subtitles.
When I try exporting the final sequence I ALWAYS get a squished video. No bars no anamorphic just ugly squished agony. I have tried setting conform aperture in QT to production. I have checked and double checked that every video file is set to anamorphic. In the preview window in Quicktime Conversion I see an anamorphic image. What the heck is going on???
Using the custom frame size settings I can get a widescreen version if I set to 360 288. But the image quality isn't what it was before and I don't have the pretty black bars I like so much.
Please please... is there anybody out there who can help me out? I am at a loss here...
    cheers,
    Alaric
ps. the new video is 6 minutes long.
pps. this is the link to the site where the original video is posted, it was exported using the Broadcast High settings (i want it to look liek that!!)
    http://www.ekvandoorne.com/04.html

Anamorphic video doesn't have black bars at the top and bottom. Anamorphic video is what you describe as "ugly squished agony" which is then unsquished on playback. If you're seeing this "problem" on playback, it's because the player doesn't know the video is supposed to be anamorphic.
What you actually want to do is export it letterboxed, which is not anamorphic.

  • Green/Red Line Appears on .mov when exporting

    Hi,
There's a green/red line that appears on the RIGHT SIDE when I export my presentation to QT. I'm using H.264 @ 24fps with Multipass encoding at best quality. I'm not including audio or transparency.
    The slide size is 355x200.
The contents are vector graphics, images, and videos.
However, no videos are right justified.
I'm using KN 3.0.1 Trial and have QT Pro & Flip4Mac Trial installed.
What are the reasons for this line in the .mov and how do I fix them?
Is it the shadow effect on the actual slide canvas?
I've exported files successfully in the last week since I've had my MacBookPro.

  • Green Line on right side of exported video Premiere Pro

Hi, when I export my footage I am seeing a slight green line on the right edge of the frame, no matter the media player and is visible as well on youtube and vimeo uploads.  I am making sure it is exported at 1280x720 as that is the aspect ratio I am recording at on my GH2. The GH2 are avchd files or .mts files natively, so when I import them I convert them using Adobe Media Encoder set to ProRes 720 60fps.  This green line does not occur on every clip when I export, just the majority of them.  I am also using Premiere Pro CC 2014 with the latest version updated. Please help!

Yes looks very similar to what I am getting with the cube transition.
It is probably something to do with the MPE and Direct X or Acc Graphics used to process the clips during the transition, only a guess for a non programmer like myself lol.
Yes, bet it is one of those bugs that has slipped through, when viewing as a screen shot it is hard to see it at stop so possible more so even in motion, but yes it is there and as I posted in my other thread, I am seeing it also, I am not green screening neither.
As say, for TV's then probably 99% of the time it will be hidden in the overscan area but for some and for Web Based viewing, I as you, would rather it not be there.
As say it is kinda like the feature in EDIUS Called enable transition handling in over scan, where the default for a new project is set at 3%.
Anyway, I have kinda solved my problem with the cube spin transition by subscribing to Red Giant Universe at $10 a month, they have a nice set of transitions that work well in premiere Pro CC, I am currently on version 8.0.1. Though I do plan on upgrading as and when to the newest one 8.0.2. Though doubt that the original issue has been fixed, but for now, I am using Red Giant.
FInally, I notice that if I click on the settings box in Red Giant Transitions, then it crashes Premiere Pro with this message, so I avoid doing that, but still work mentioning, probably should put this into a fresh post of submit bug report, I will also contact Red Giant to make them aware of it also.

  • Tiled Pattern Creates Odd Lines?

    Hello all.
I've created a 150px x 150px tile in Photoshop. It tiles perfectly in Photoshop.
I want to use it in AI as a fill.
I place it into AI, select it and go to Edit>DefinePattern. AI then creates a swatch out of my pattern and I can now use it as a fill.
However, a few things are puzzling me.
#1. I get odd white lines (supper thin) between my tiles. Basically it looks like little white lines that outline my square tileable pattern.
#2. The while lines are not horizontal and vertical like I would think. Seeing as how my tile is square. It's seems like AI is rotating my tile at a 10˚ angle.
Can anyone help me? I would really like to get rid of the white lines.
    Thanks.

I believe that is a preview issue and you do not actually have those lines. Try a test print or enlarge the view very high and you will probably see the lines but they will not magnify the as does the art.
I forget the reason for this.

  • How to add separating line between facing pages when exporting to PDF

    Hello,
I've searched a lot and could not find an answer to my question...
I'm creating several multi-page documents with facing (left-right) pages. After that I export these to PDF. I use the same setting for all my files and same settings for exporting.
But one of the documents when exported doesn't have a separating line between the left and right pages and they seem to be one. How can I add this separating line?
    Thanks in advance!

Hi Peter, thanks you for your reply. If I understand correctly what you are saying, I would say this is not the case, because both are exported as spreads and both are displayed 1-up. Please see attached screenshots - first two show exporting options and second two show how it will look in Acrobat if both are displayed 2-up.
