Odd occurance-2 versions of iphoto

I have an imac and a powerbook. I install the same operating system in both. However, I just realized that the imac has iphoto 4.0.3 while my powerbook has version 2.0. I update both with free software updates regularly and did not pay for any iphoto upgade. So how could this happen?
I'd like to get the 4.0.3 on my powerbook. Is there anyway of doing this between computers? BTW, the cd/dvd player on my imac is broken & disconnected. I have it connected to an external cd burner.

Hi, Linda. A Powerbook that was new in 2003 didn't come with iPhoto 4 preinstalled, and iPhoto 4 didn't exist in 2000. iPhoto 4 was only ever available as part of the iLife 04 suite of applications, which was bundled with new iMacs and probably iBooks made after 2003, but never with any Powerbook. If you've never bought an iLife 04 installer disc set, then it would appear that both your copies of iPhoto 4 have been made illegally.
iPhoto 2 was free, and can still be downloaded free from Apple's site, but it can't be upgraded beyond v. 2.0.1 for free.

  • You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto.

I tried to open iphoto this morning and recieved this message: "iphoto damaged or incomplete." There was also a white circle with a slash through the icon in both dock and applications folder.  Recently I had loaded idvd from ilife since it was not included on my MBP.  I reinstalled iphoto using the disc and then the following began to occur.
I received this message when I tried to launch iPhoto after reinstalling. Yesterday it was working fine. "You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto." It gave me the option of quitting but nothing else.
I followed directions on another thread to rebuild using the database by holding down command+option while launching iphoto.  None of my folders came back and all the photo boxes are empty, although there are dates.
I do have a backup on an external but am not sure how I would restore using that (I've never had to in the past).
This is iphoto 11 - version 9.1. I am unsure how to check what version was installed when I purchased this MBP (Nov. 2012). I am also runnign OSX 10.8.3
Is there anyway to remove the update and recent install and revert to what I had yesterday? Or even two days ago?
Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to have to re-create my folders.
    Thanks in advance!

When you installed iDVD, you must accidentally also have reinstalled and downgraded iPhoto.

You have two options, either delete your current iPhoto version and reinstall iPhoto from the AppStore, or go to the -menu and run Software update to upgrade your current iPhoto version to iPhoto 9.4.3, the current version.
To reinstall: See this document http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4718
Scroll down to the paragraph: Restoring iLife applications after Internet Restore of OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion
It explains how to reinstall the bundled iLife applications, that came preinstalled, from the AppStore.

  • If I get Maverick, can I keep an older version of iPhoto ?

I am currently using iPhoto 08 (7.1.5).  With OS 10.6.8
The latest version of iPhoto does not show keywords below each image, (shocking, but true).  My work requires that I have the keywords below each image, so I would like to continue to use iPhoto 08.  Is it possible to do this with Maverick ?
    Using OS 10.6.8 now.

My research indicates that I may be able to continue using iPhoto 08 with Maverick.
Yes you may, as long as you don't need any of the features that don't work.
I primarily use iPhoto for scientific and engineering purposes
And that puts you well outside the target user group for the app.
Clearly, I'm at odds with Apples trend of appealing to teenagers.
Clearly you're intent on being offensive to other people who actually are among the target users for the app. It's not designed for a professional setting. It's aimed squarely at the home user with a point and shoot or even a phone, who wants to tidy up his/her photos and share them easily.  So, instead of sneering and getting depressed, why not face reality. You've been lucky to get away with using an app not designed for your use, and now your luck has run out.

  • Transfered photos from IMac with Iphoto 9 to a mac book with Iphoto 11 now Iphoto 09 errors out saying "You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto."

Transfered photos from IMac with Iphoto 9 to a mac book with Iphoto 11 now Iphoto 09 errors out saying "You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto."  We have not updated or changed anything on the IMac all we did is transfer photos. Any help would be appreciated.

LarryHN is correct. The only way this message occurs is if the iPhoto Library database is upgraded to a newer version.
You could try holding SHIFT-OPT-COMMAND when launching iPhoto from the dock and checking only "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" and hope it restores the previous database prior to the upgrade.
If that doesn't work, you can install iPhoto '11 on your iPhoto '09 computer. If I understood the iPhoto '11 Mac App License agreeement correctly, you can install it on any personal, non-commerical computer you own running 10.5, 10.6 and 10.7.

  • Probs with versions of iPhoto

    Hi there,
after reinstalling Lion and iPhoto (9.2.1, build 628) on my iMac, each time I start the iPhoto-library, I get the following message
(Your library has to be updatet to be compatible with this version of iPhoto)
    and afterwards
(iPhoto detected inconsistencies in Your library - click to repair).
The odd thing is the following:
before reinstalling Lion and iPhoto, this very library was used on this very iMac with just the same versions of iPhoto without any problems
    and
after the repair, iPhoto works perfectly well, til I end it - when I start it again, the very same procedure is repeated.
Rebuilding the library did not change anything.
    Any ideas what to do?
    Thanks 4 help!

If you have the space available on your hard drive and don't aready have a backup copy of the library make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Commadn+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Updated to Mavericks and the new version of iPhoto starts to install but just gets to 10.2MB and starts all over and then comes up with an error message

I installed Mavericks to my computer and iPhoto isn’t working it has a grey no working symbol over it.  So I tried to download the new version of iPhoto but it starts to download and just gets to 10.2MB and starts all over after about 3 mins of doing this it comes up with an error message saying  an error had occurred.  I have tried downloading several times restarting the computer and downloading and still get the same thing over and over again.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Can't open current photo library using this version of iPhoto 7.1.5

I have recently had to perform a disk repair due to the disk image not mounting. In this process I completed a full backup of my home folder and verify/repair/format of my harddrive. At this time I also added 4G RAM bringing the MacBook up to 5G RAM.
Since the reinstallation of 10.7.5 (Which took about 18hrs) I have none of the iLife package. I have reinstalled from the original disk that I recieved on initial purchase back in 2008. After installation I ran the software update and have updated everything (iTunes, iPhoto etc) I have been able to import all data from my backup via a simple drag & drop. I am now unable to open my iPhoto library (file size 105.43G). I have searched many forums and have been unable to find a solution that is suitable (rebuild library) because as soon as I launch this option it brings up the following message:
You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto.
After this I must quit the application. What am I missing? I'm sure it is something quite simple... I'm hoping it is as easy as it was to find the recoveryHD during the reformat of the disk.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, Cheers.

  • Aperture 3 thinks my iPhoto library is from an older version of iPhoto

I tried to import my iPhoto library, but when I try it says "Importing libraries from versions earlier than iPhoto 7.1.5 is not supported. Please upgrade your iPhoto library with iPhoto 7.1.5 or later." I'm using the newest version of iPhoto. Any clues?

I was having this same issue. When importing, Finder defaults to the Pictures folder where my iPhoto Library is found; however, I had to highlight it before clicking import to bypass this error. I'm not sure what else Aperture was looking at in that folder. I've never owned iPhoto earlier than the '09 version so there is nothing remotely related to version 7.
