Odd problems, cant find anything similar
Okay, well, i just got my mac today, but im pretty well versed. whenever i quit ichat and go back in, most of my buddy list is downright missing; not just offline, not on there. and also one of my friends' SN is correct and we talk but he comes up as offline so he has to start it. if anyone can help id be very happy

There can be several reasons for this.
The most likely is that port 5190 is to open to both the UDP and TCP protocols in the Mac Firewall, if ON, or in a routing device.
Starting with the Mac Firwall, Port 5190 needs to be opened on both the UDP and TCP protocols. All the other ports for AV chats (5060, 5678, 16384-16403 need to be UDP.
See here. The Pic shows both Tiger and Panther Firewalls and lists the iChat/AIM and iChat/Bonjour ports. The Jabber ports are listed in the Pink box further down.
If the ports are opened in the modem using Port Forwarding it is unlikely that you have had to specify the Protocols.
However Port Triggering will need to specify the port 5190 is open to both. (Sometime listed as ANY)

Love Acrobat XI, but when I installed it became the default program to open all my photos. I'd like them to open in theirr native (JPEG, etc. format) How do I disable the PDF default conversion ? Cant' find anything in Preferences that works.
Sounds like a file association issue in Windows. Right click on the files of interest and select Open With>Choose Default Program and select the program you want used (be sure the "always use" box is checked. The Acrobat installation should not have done this change, but this is the process to make the change on each file type.

I don't remember if there was a software update around the time this started happening. i did only used to have an AIM and gmail account linked to it, I added another Google account and that's when the Jabber thing popped up, I don't believe I ever saw it before then. other than that, it is the only issue I have had with the new software, and it very well could be operator error, i just cant seem to find anything about sms messages in the settings

The iMessages account can do SMS (Text Messages) in Yosemite if you have an iOS 8 iPhone that have been linked.
To do this you need to Enable text Forwarding on the iPhone - which in turn triggers the Code Number to appear on the Mac version which you copy back to the iPhone dialogue box.
If it is On on the settings on the iPhone then you should be able to select the Mac that is linked.
You may find it has become Unlicked and you need to Reset. (turn the Function On again and then ask it to connect to the Mac in question and wait fro the number).
I just checked mine and it had become Unlinked again (I am not sure of the trigger for this)

Audiobook confusion – no order to how they are listed – cant find anything
OK I have lots of audio books on my ipod. The only issue is, some of them are ones I have ripped from CD and so they have tons and tons of tracks.
At first, the ones I ripped were in the music section of my library and the ones I bought from audible were in the audiobook section. But I really wanted them all together, so I have learned how to move all my audio books to the audiobook section of itunes.
In fact I even went as far as to create new genres in that sections (aka fiction, non-fiction...ect) to further separate the books. I thought that once they were synced with my ipod, I would have the option to search through my audio books the same way I did my music (aka artist, genre, title, ect....)
However, the audiobook book only allows you to search through by track list name.......which I have hundreds of. This type of listing makes it impossible to find anything.
So does anyone have any suggestion on how I can fix this or what the best bet is for me?
I saw Apple has an audiobook builder app. But it is only for apple computer and isn't compatible with my computer --- so anyone that has any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks BlandkidIf I understand your situation correctly, the best workaround that I've been able to come up with is to rename each of the tracks that are part of a given book so that the name of the book preceeds the name of the track.
The tracks will still be listed separately on your iPod but at least they will be kept together with other tracks that are a part of that book. -
When I open firefox where do I type what I am looking for; similar to how Google has it in the middle of the screen. Where do I type in the words. So frustrating that something so simple is not easily found and your 'tour" did not show this. At this point, I do not like firefox.

Very simple question - but cant find anything to do this! (other than a full proxy server)
Simple one for everyone who has kids... I run a wrt54gs, v1.50.9 wireless network in my house. I have 2 teenage kids both with laptops...
I'd like to be able to see what sites they're browsing (ie firewall logs) - but without installing something like 'netnanny ' on each laptop (there apears to be a log setup on the router but doesnt record anything let alone outgoing traffic)
I know I can bar sites through the setup...but does anyone know of any app that will record from the router, who's looked at what site?,,,so I know (quietly!) what they're looking at?

Time date stamp. Cant find anything

My searching skills must not be very good because I am having trouble finding out how to display the time and date content on my movies using iMovie 08. I saw one forum listing saying it can be done on iMovie but not Final Cut Pro. Okay great except I cannot turn it on. I select time date on the preferences in iMovie, but still nothing displays on the video. iMovie knows all the data because when I hover with the mouse, it displays everything I need. All I need now is for that to appear in the video. I am open to buying iMovie 09 or maybe even a Final Cut version if need be. Even non apple software is an option. The other thing you can try is to sign out of your iTunes account and then back in again to see if it shows up, or, you can click on your user ID in the iTunes Store, and then click on "Account" to view your account page:

Note that if you have visited pages before on a server via a secure connection then Firefox will prefer to using a secure connection (a reset imports the history).
You can set the Boolean browser.urlbar.autoFill pref to false to disable auto-fill on the location bar.

WHAt the heck is wrong with the itunes website? It's the least user friendly site I've ever tried to use. Ive spent hours trying to find my credit balance and I get no result when I follow online directions, even though I know I have more than $70 in credit. I can't find the directions to authorise this computer. When
