Odd Remote control behavior

I have remote control enabled through a workstation policy associated to the Workstation container. I do not have an active user policy with remote control enabled or associated to any users.
But, It seems we can remote control into a workstation through a user's name in Console One and it overides any restrictions we had put on the policy withing the workstation policy. We are able to remote right into a user with no prompt. If we remote control into a workstation it prompts like it should.
Im kinda confused here.

  • My macbook pro is moving on its own. Not sure if its being remotely controlled or if its a bug but its annoying!!

I have a 15inch Macbook Pro that has recently been acting wacky. It feels like someone else is controlling my computer but all my sharing featured are turned off and i have my firewall on so i doubt its being remote controlled. Using my cursor is a constant battle. Sometimes its fine other times it won't cooperate. At random times the cursor will move and highlight a word and define it. YES Define the highlighted word. While on safari it'll  randomly zoom in on the webpage im on,  and contiue to highlight and  try to switch pages. It'll switch from desktop to  dashboard on its own as well as  make my launch pad disappear and reaapear. without me touching it at all. SOMEONE HELP !

There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until it's resolved. Some may not apply in your case.
    1. Follow the instructions in this support article, and also this one, if applicable. A damaged or defective AC adapter could be the cause, even if it's the right kind.
    2. Open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and delete all pointing devices other than the trackpad, if applicable. Disconnect any USB pointing devices. By a "pointing device," I mean a peripheral that moves the cursor, such as a trackpad, mouse, trackball, or graphics tablet. A plain keyboard is not a pointing device.
    3. Start up in safe mode and test, preferably without launching any third-party applications. If you don't have the problem in safe mode, but it comes back when you restart as usual, stop here and post your results. Do the same if you can't start in safe mode. If there was no difference in safe mode, go on to the next step.
    4. Reset the System Management Controller.
    5. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
    6. A swollen battery in a portable computer can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced without delay.
    7. Press down all four corners of the trackpad at once and release. If there's any effect, it's likely to be temporary, and the unit needs to be serviced or replaced.
    8. There's a report that a (possibly defective) Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter can cause the built-in trackpad of a MacBook to  behave erratically. If you're using such an adapter, disconnect it and test.
    9. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
    10. If none of the above applies, or if you have another reason to think that your computer is being remotely controlled, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi (or your Wi-Fi access point), disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop at once, you should suspect an intrusion.
    11. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine and/or external trackpad tested.

  • Unable to allow remote control and deny transfer files in RM

Hi, we're running ZCM 11 SP1 and I have a question about assiging rights to non-Helpdesk users for remote control only for user application support. It looks like if I deny transfer files that the button for remote control automatically changes from allow to deny. I couldn't find anything in the forums, KB, or docs to see if this is working as intended or a bug of some sort? If intended, do you know why remote control and transfer files go together, just curious? In ConsoleOne versions of remote management we had always limited non-Helpdesk remote operators and were hoping to do exactly the same with ZCM11. Thanks.

Was there ever a workaround for this? I'm seeing the same behavior in 11.2.3 and we have a need to block file transfer but allow remote management.

  • Remote Control Service Startup

    Hi all,
I am posting this here because I can't think of a better place.  I initially thought of posting it on Connect but they are only accepting bugs and this is more of a feature request because, as I understand it, the software is functioning as expected.
However, it would be nice to have the following implemented.
When the SCCM 2012 R2 client is installed with Remote Control enabled, the CmRcService is set to start Automatic (Delayed).  From searches and reading, this is the designed and expected behavior.  While I understand why Microsoft designed the software
this way, it creates issues when working on remote computers that need to be rebooted.  The feature we are looking for would allow the SCCM Admin to select via the Client Settings in the Console which start-up type should be used for the service (auto
    or auto-delayed).
I understand that you can manually change the start-up type but that would have to be done on a per-machine basis.  I am looking for something more automatic.  I had considered using a GPO but due to how our environment is setup, our Network Support
    department will not allow this.
Any ideas or suggestions on how to get this setup or requested would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Adam

Connect is the place for those design change requests, too.

  • Next chapter isn't working from the remote control (Adobe Encore)

    Hi,
    Encore CS5
My project starts with the main menu
    -Film1
    -Film2
    -Film3
    -Chapters
All my film1, film3, film3 have chapters and we can access to each capter properly from the chapters menus.
    BUT :
Film1 & Film2 --> the next and Prev button of the remote control have no effect, tested on a high end Denon player as well as on a Sony Playstation3 (even if the actions are authorized in their properties in Encore)
And don't know why but it's working on Film3! (all properties seem to be the same!!!)
Note : from the virtual remote control of Encore, I don't see this problem.
    Thank you.

That does sound odd. Please post a screenshot of your flowchart, showing those timelines.

  • How to set Menu and Title functionality for a remote control in a menu?

I have a main menu (countries) and under each country there is a submenu (regions). When I play my DVD on my Mac it seems to function alright:
If I go to country C and hit the "menu" button, nothing happens (I see the "action prohibited" line popping up). And nothing should happen of you hit menu in a submenu. Only if you hit Title/Top menu you should be able to go to the main menu.
However... When I play my DVD on a DVD player (and I tested it on 2 different ones) and I go to a the Country C and hit the "menu" button, I am suddenly transfered to Country A. And if I go from the main menu to Country D and I hit the "menu" button, I go to... Country A. The menu button seems to be linked to the first submenu. Which is very odd!
So there is definately something going very wrong when using the menu/title buttons during playback when I am in a submenu (not while playing a track).
Can someone help me? Is there a way to define what happens with the remote control buttons menu or title when you are in a submenu and NOT playing a track? I can not find any controls for that.
    Thanks!

Does this mean I should select "not set" in the general tab at the dropdown menu's for Title, Menu and Return in the Remote Control section? I can't find any other place where I can select menu or title.
But if I set these to "not set",the menu and title buttons still work in simulation mode... So I guess I should do something else in order to disable menu and title? Sorry for the amount of questions from my side!

  • 11.2.4 Remote Control vs VNC

I have a problem using the remote control with Zenworks (ZCM 11.2.4.0).
Before Zenworks, we used VNC (3.3.9) for the remote control, but since the agent deployment many workstations are not accessible via ZCC.
I noticed this on the workstations in question :
If we install VNC (official version) in addition to Zenworks, where the Zenworks agent has been installed it will destroy almost every files in C:\Program Files\Novell\ZENworks\bin! As a result, the nzrWinVNC.exe no longer exists and the service 'Novell ZENworks Remote Management powered by VNC' disappeared aswell from the list of running services and therefore I cannot remote control the workstations anymore.
I do not understand this behavior.
Is there any effective way to partially restore the corrupted agent (i.e reinstall the RM missing part)? Or otherwise any method that I can follow.
    Thank you.

If the ZCM Agent works EXCEPT for Remote Control try the following.
In the ZCC, go into details of the object in the ZCC and configure that
device to "Not install" Remote Management Components.
Force a Remote Refresh (or have someone do it manually on the device.)
Once the refresh is done, Enable Remote Control Components and refresh
    again.
This process will tell the agent to remove and then tell it to install
    those components. That may help.
And definitely configure a Remote Control Password via your Remote
Control Policy and give it out to your techs. That way if they prefer
VNC to manage devices, they can still do that w/o installing VNC on the PC.

  • Remote Control Disconnecting on Windows 8.1

We seem to be having a problem with the SCCM remote tool disconnecting, but only with Windows 8.1 clients.  Windows 7 clients seem to work fine.  It will connect, and then after about 20 seconds or so disconnect and then bring the user to
the lock screen.  Has anyone experienced this behavior before? We are fully patched to CU3 on the client and console ends. It would appear to be an authentication issue, but the strange part is that it does make the initial connection without difficulty.
All other aspects of management like advertisements, software pushes, updates, etc. work just fine.
    Thanks.

    Hi ,
Are you running SCCM 2012 or SCCM 2012 SP1? Windows 8.1 client is not supported by SCCM 2012 without SP1. (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682077.aspx#BKMK_SupConfigClientOS)
If you are running SCCM 2012 SP1, check the RDP setting on the Windows 8.1 clients. The remote control is likely a shadowed RDP session.
1.Apply the latest hotfix of RDP client components on Windows 8.1 client.
Available updates for Remote Desktop Services in Windows Server 2012
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2821526
    2. Check the RDP related group policies (Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Device and Resource Redirection) and registry key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Terminal
Services). Compared it to a working one and see if there is any difference.
    3. Collect a netmon trace when the issue occurs will help address the network issue.
    Thanks.

I have typically seen this kind of behavior when the user has a stuck
    key on
the keyboard, in this instance, it looks like the user has a stuck

key. Have them unplug the keyboard and then re-establish your session.

Actually, it's doing it on all machines, we are on ZFD 3.2 sp1. We
    also
have a mix of Win9x/NT/2000. Originally, the keyboard function did
    not
work at all until we upgraded to ZFD sp1. Now it works, but, it seems
like the windows system key is "stuck" in the keyboard buffer or
something. So if you have notepad or wordpad open and you type "e" an
explorer window pops up rather than the "e" actually getting typed. Strange huh? we tried to enable/disable the system key pass through to
    no
    avail.
    Thanks for the quick response

  • Remote control error 1891 after eDir upgrade?

    - NW6sp3 two-node cluster (production server) houses read/write replica
    - NW6sp3 utility server houses master replica and is a ZenWorks 4IR5 server
    - The above servers reside in a small chunk of a much larger NDS tree
    - Roughly 150 users with the 4.90sp2 client + Zen4IR5 agent
    - ConsoleOne 1.3.6c with current Zen and Cluster snapins
Is there a known preferred method (or recommended method) of authenticating
to either read/write or master replica's? Here is my issue:
Prior to upgrading all three servers above to eDir 8.7.3.3, I was able to
use Zen to remote control my users's PC's. I WAS logging into the cluster
(read/write replica), just like all my users still do today. I began seeing
the remote control error "1891" which various TID's describe as an issue
with close proximity to a pure IPX server, and remote control fails. I have
no IPX running in my network currently. Opened tickets with Novell in both
their Zen and eDir teams.....no solution's yet. As I began banging around,
I found that if I force my login to the utility server (master repica in
this case) I now regain remote control ability to my users that authenticate
to the cluster (read/write). Also, if I intentionally login to a different
context of our tree (have a different admin create a temp account for me in
his context, say) first and not into my own context, I can remote control my
users in my context via ConsoleOne. Similarly, if I login to a different
context upon startup, then once the Windows desktop is loaded and I right
click the red N in my system tray, and login as myself into my own context,
I can remote control users. The issue arises when the first context I login
to is my own. Odd I say, odd.
I've done every flavor of dsrepair switches (-xk3, -a, timesync, etc) and
provided logs to Novell. Each dsrepair variant returns zero errors. I
believe the tree is healthy from what I and Novell can tell.
Attached are some logs from about a month ago when I started seeing these
remote control errors. Please note the time stamps on both the remote
    controller and remote controlled machines.
I've posted this over on the eDir board as well since it feels like an
    authentication issue to me....
Thanks for taking the time to look at this,

  • Remote Control Service on clients is disabled

    Hello everyone,
I have a deployment of SCCM 2012 setup, a big improvement over 2007 so far, and everything was working great.  For whatever reason when I push the client installation to PC's or the client is installed during a OSD, everything appears to work perfectly
except the Remote Control doesn't work.  Further investigation lead me to the Configuration Manger Remote Control Service which was disabled.  If i manually enable it Remote Control works like expected.
In the Client Settings Policy for  the site I have the remote control configured and setup for access.  If I go to the client and look at the remote control settings under the options in the System Center app my policy settings are applied correctly
there, yet the service is disabled.
I am wondering if I am missing something or if anybody would know why this is happening.  I have ruled out Group Policy disabling this service.  As far as i know this is a new service to SCCM 2012.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Eric,
In short yes, I have done a few client push installations to PC's that had the SCCM 2007 client on them and everything seems to go fine except the remote control service remains disabled.  One was a Windows XP PC that we are going to leave alone and
see if the service starts on its own.  We have installed software and updates through the new client already on this machine so I know the 2012 client was installed correctly and is getting policies.  I did push the client install to two Win7 PC's
and the remote control service did not start right away, however when I checked them a few hours later the service was running and remote control sessions were successful.  So I'm not sure if I just wasn't patient enough or if something else was going
    on.
Testing to see if stuff is working after an OSD build is just easier for me.  I can image a PC, log in, make sure everything is working correctly, if not, I'll make changes, and then just re-image again. So far deployments of both WinXP and Win7 seem
to exhibit this behavior of the service not starting.  Could it be something to do with the WIM files I am using for the OSD's?  I had just made copies of the WIM files we used in SCCM 2007.
If you want me to provide some screenshots or log files I'll do what I can, however I will be out of the office for the weekend so I can't post them right away.

  • Blank window remote control FirefoxESR 10.0.11 and 17.0.2

    Zenworks agent 11.2.3.18534
    Windows XP SP3
    Management station: IE 8, 9, and 10. Firefox 17.0.5, Firefox v22.
    Client: Firefox ESR 10.0.11, 17.0.2
When remote controlling from either Firefox or IE there is a blank window on the client-side copy of Firefox.
Here is a video showing the behavior.
This is proving to be a bit of a problem for us since we are in the process of trying to standardize our client-side browser version on FirefoxESR 17.0.2. Is there a workaround?

  • Remote control pressing lower case 'e' launches explorer

Two windows 9x machines, remote control works but when typing lower
    case
keys that map to windows system functions, those functions launch.
    For
example, pressing lower case 'e' launches windows explorer rather than
showing an 'e' in notepad. Lower case 'r' launches the run command.
Lower case 'f' launches find files.
    Has anyone seen this behavior?
    Nick
    Elliott

Actually, it's doing it on all machines, we are on ZFD 3.2 sp1. We
    also
have a mix of Win9x/NT/2000. Originally, the keyboard function did
    not
work at all until we upgraded to ZFD sp1. Now it works, but, it seems
like the windows system key is "stuck" in the keyboard buffer or
something. So if you have notepad or wordpad open and you type "e" an
explorer window pops up rather than the "e" actually getting typed. Strange huh? we tried to enable/disable the system key pass through to
    no
    avail.
    Thanks for the quick response

  • Normal, then slow response to remote control

I just had FiOS TV installed less than one week ago (on 1/15/10) and have noticed the following annoying behavior: After powering-up my TV and Set Top Box (STB), the remote control responds normally. I am able to change channels using direct numeric entry or the Channel up/down buttons. Also, the volume control responds normally. However, once I enter the program guide, or VOD, or select the DVR, response to commands from the remote works fine for a while, then the response completely stops, similar to when a PC stops responding to mouse or keyboard commands. It seems like the STB's on-board microprocessor or RAM are suddenly max'd out. If I let it sit there for a long time (e.g., about 10 minutes), response to the remote control is back to normal. Alternately, if I power the TV and STB off and on again, responsiveness to the remote control is normal (until I again try to use the Guide, VOD, or DVR). I have put fresh batteries in the remote, but the problem remains the same. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks.

Please call 1-888-553-1555. The tech will have to send some commands to the stb to refresh it. Please mention exactly the things you typed here.

  • Lenovo AIO C440 - not working infrared remote control

    Hello,
is there any hint how to get infrared remote control working for a new C440 model? Tomorrow I will try to measure and/or replace batteries which could be bad. For now it is totally not working.
Another question: the remote should work only within AverMedia TV app or in the whole Windows 8?
    Regards,
    Zdenek

    hi bohdik,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
The IR Windows Media Center remote control is for use with C440 models with optional TV tuner. If you have this model,  make sure the TV Tuner driver and the ITE CIR Driver from the lenovo support site are installed under Device Manager (press Windows Key+R then type devmgmt.msc) then follow  the Set up a TV signal in Windows Media Center. guide.
    Note:
You must have Windows 8 PRO to enable Windows Media Center
