Odd text happenings

I have some text (Fixed Miriam Transparent) in a movie i
created, however when i export the movie it is displayed in a
different text. I can't figure out why and I need it to be in Fixed
Miriam Transparent text.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I had it set to an input text box by mistake, so i changd it
to dynamic, and i did not embed it. and yet it still shows it in a
basic text.

  • Safari displaying odd text? Gobbledygook!?

I found the answer to this going back to 2008 and 09, so thought it worth putting on here again as I have been suffering this problem for something like 6 months within 2013!
I was finding some text on some websites had some text that was displaying as odd text, just odd characters sometimes overlapping each other. That was also coming up when I started to try and use iCloud - where the welcome screen icons had the gobbledygook text under each one, so you didn't know what they were and had to guess! Never tried as wanted to find the solution.
I'm on latest Safari version and OS system.
This was a solution posted in 2008 and worked for me:
But it got me thinking - and I went into Suitcase & noticed that an Helvetica T1 font was having problems, so I deactivated it & looked at Wikipedia again.
While I wasn't seeing gobbledygook text anymore, the same offending text snippets were now bunched up on top of each other - like a typewriter that refuses to nudge onto the next character space. So I quit Safari and looked at Wikipedia again and it is all fine.
In conclusion, Suitcase was having a problem with Helvetica, deactivating it, quitting Safari and starting Safari again solved the problem.

Oops, answered to the wrong thread.  Sorry.

  • Odd Text Cursor Behavior

In the last few months I've seen what may be a change in the way the text cursor moves in text fields, particularly in Mail.
In Mail I'm composing a reply to an e-mail message. I've typed some text that occupies two lines. The cursor is in the third, blank line. If I press "up-arrow" the cursor moves to the end of the second line. If I press "up-arrow" again the cursor moves to the beginning of the first line. If I press "down-arrow", the cursor moves to the beginning of the second line. Very odd.
I was used to being able to cursor past the end of one line to the beginning of the next line and then being able to cursor up and down in that first column position. That no longer works reliably, often causing the cursor to move to a position far to the right of the first column.
Does anyone else see this? Did a change in an OS update alter the way the text cursor works in Mail? In TextEdit the cursor still works the way it used to. I have no third-party plug-ins for Mail.

Either you’ve messed with the Preferences > Junk Mail > Advanced settings, or those settings have become corrupt, or you have one or more rules that have a bearing on this.
Assuming it isn’t the latter, try this:
    1. Go to Preferences > Junk Mail, disable junk mail filtering, then enable it again. This resets the rule that governs what the junk filter does.
    2. Choose either Training or Automatic mode (it doesn’t matter) and leave the other options checked. Click Advanced to see how the junk filter rule is defined now if you want, but don’t touch anything there.
    3. Reset the junk filter database (Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset).

  • Odd Text Distortion in FCPX

    Hey All,
Been receontly been having an issue with text effects being oddly distorted in Final Cut X. Happens randomly in all projects in different libraries. Sometimes if I delete the effect and re-do it, it fixes itself... sometimes if I shut down FCPX and restart it fixes itself... preference delete sometimes helps... but it always seems to come back, and not always in the same instance of the text effect.
Anyone else been seeing this issue? Here's a screenshot... notice how the text looks in the upper right corner of the viewer...

I just had this problem again, but for me, rendering solved the issue...
Do you try deleting all rendered files from event before render ?
    EDIT :
no, you're right, rendering doesn't totally solve this problem...
But i deleted all rendered files, then closed FCPX, then when i restarted, all was ok...
    EDIT 2 :
    actually, no, it wasn't
so then i deleted rendered files, closed, restarted, rendered the text, and now it's ok...
But anway, it would be more interesting to find the origin of the problem, than random procedure to avoid it.
I'm surprised not more people have this problem...

  • Odd text formatting

I've got several pages that have text that looks great in iWeb but when published the text is vertically "squashed together" making it hard to read. You can see an example of this at: http://web.mac.com/jwarrenod/WEC/Dr._Warren.html
Is this a font substitution issue or something else?
    Thanks!

Click the T on the inspector panel. Click text and see where it says "line", "before paragraph", "after paragraph". One of those should help. I am guessing you want to change "line" to a higher number.

  • Help! Odd text box behaviour in IE compared with iWeb 08/Safari.

    Hello All
I have been tasked with building my girlfriend a website so have fired up iWeb and got stuck in. It all looked fine and dandy to me in iWeb but she is complaining that when she views it on her PC using IE one text box is messed up. In iWeb I centered the text both horizontally and vertically within the text box but IE shows the text at the bottom of the text box and hence loses some of the text.
I'm wondering if there is a work around for this to make the site look the same in IE?
    Thanks

    Jonno,
Make sure nothing else is touching the textbox on the iWeb page. You can click on any element on the page to select it, then use <select all> (command A). This should allow you to see all the boundary boxes for all the elements on the page, make sure none of them are touching the problem text box.
Also make sure the textbox isn't touching the edge of the page or the header , or footer or anything. Make sure there is space all around the box.
If you post the address to the page others can more easily help you.
    Sincerely, David

  • Odd text messages

my girlfriend started to receive messages that are not from me, but the box it is received in by the phone displaces my contact info. it will automatically combine it into our text thread. what is going on? how do i stop this and prevent it from happening further?
    thank you.

See my post as well.  It appears only Verizon customers with SMS updates are affected on Facebook.   I've spoken with Verizon several times and tech support acknowledged they knew there is a problem, but said it's not Verizon's problem-it's a Facebook issue.  People have been posting the same complaint on Facebook's page all day, and Facebook hasn't responded or acknowledged the issue.  I've gone ahead and started notifying local news companies, as have other people complaining on facebook.  If Verizon and Facebook won't deal with it, hopefully pressure from the media will make them address it.  The Facebook complaints are on the discussions site on the Facebook Security page.

I just turned off the xfce compositer and tried xcompmgr, which fixed the issue. Any idea how to fix xfce's compositer?

Bump...the problem persists in x.org 1.8 too, and is not xfce-specific.
The bug affects not only tint2 (with just xfce-compositor) but also terminal and gpodder (notice the numbers) (with all compositors):

  • Odd MAC Happenings...

I have been on my G4 all day, and just a bit ago there was a weird black box on my document. I closed out, and the box was then rimming an item on my desktop. I restarted, but it was still there and then pops up in windows I have open. Also, I have two restart, shutdown and logout commands in my Apple Menu, one has ellipses after it and the other doesn't. Anyone know what the heck is going on and how to make it stop? Thanks.

You didn't hit cmd-F5 and turn on the voice-over accidentally did you? It puts a black square around what it is speaking. If you did then cmd-F5 will turn it off.

  • Odd font issue with Safari, iWeb

Ok, so I've been having this odd font issue with Safari for quite a while now, and I haven't been able to fix it. Some text on several different websites come up in a different font than the default font for Safari. I've tried changing the default font to something else, changing the text encoding and nothing. This has been happening with several releases of Safari.
Now, last night I discovered the same thing is happening with iWeb. Some of the text fields come up with the same font as the one in Safari! I don't even know which font it is. So somehow these are linked.
I'm at work right now, but I can get a screen shot of the font once I get home.
Any ideas on how to remedy this?

Hi Tom, thanks for the response. I tried searching for those two fonts in my font book and they weren't in there. See below for screen shots of the odd text I'm getting:
    iWeb
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    Safari
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If anyone can help resolve I'd greatly appreciate it. As much as I like Safari, this odd font makes me close Safari after a few mins of browsing =\

  • Change margins... how to update text frames to match?

    Hi there,
I have an 80-some-odd page document, which I needed to change the margins on. No problem there. Now, however, I would like to update the 80-some-odd text frames to match the new margins. No, I did not select "Master Text Frame" when I created the document, because I'm new to the program and I'm generally unintelligent.
Is there a way to accomplish this?
Alternately, if I now create a new document (with Master Text Frame selected), can I 'Place' the old document into it?
Thanks a lot! Someone out there will earn my cyber-praise with a response.

First point...not using a master text frame is a good move. There's simply no need for it most instances and would do you no good here.
Use the Layout Adjustment command. Layout>Layout Adjustment>Enable Layout Adjustment. If your text frames are touching the margins, they should adjust accordingly.

  • Spacebar, other keys, produce odd results, codes

I'm encountering a really weird problem with a Powerbook running Mac OS X 10.3.9 -- when various keys (spacebar, delete, etc) are pressed, various functions occur (Expose hide windows, lower sound volume, etc). Also, if the cursor was in a text window, consistent, odd text is generated on each key press.
Pressing spacebar, for example, activates the Expose hide windows function (the same as pressing F11) and "6yhn" is typed whereever the cursor was.
I tried turning off Expose in it's System Preference Panel and that stopped Expose from being triggered, but the 6yhn is still typed.
I also checked the International System Preference to see if any other keyboards were active, but none were.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Solved!
Quicktime has an HD Jones.... If you chuck 16:9 native footage at it, it assumes that it must be HD. In the end batched the rushes thru Mpeg StreamClip.

  • Tango Text Virus?

Today I received an odd text message from some "Tango Text" app from an unkown number. It read something about how the app was free and to check out its URL to get more information. I have never even heard of, let alone used such an app. Little did I know I received a text from a friend asking me what the app was. When I asked about it they said I sent them the identical text message I received from earlier. This supposed text message did not show up in imessage in the conversation between me and my friend.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Tango will steal contacts from your address book to SPAM them all.
Unless your iPhone is jailbroken, then it's not a virus.
    Just delete the app.

  • [SOLVED]Will WOL ever work again after suspend to RAM on my server?

I used Ubuntu on this server for a long while and had WOL working after 'suspend to RAM' and after a 'shutdown -h'. Suddenly with 10.10 WOL after 'suspend to RAM' stopped working, WOL after 'shutdown -h' was still working fine, so I used that for the time being. Some days ago I thought, "well, you use Arch on your laptop for years now, so why not try it on your server, you don't like fixed release cycles anyway and Samba on Ubuntu never worked reliably on this machine, too'. So after a little fiddling to install Arch on this server and following the pm-utils entry on the Arch Wiki I am now at exactly the same position as before, WOL after 'suspend to RAM' doesn't work while WOL after a 'shutdown -h' works. The funny thing is that if I stop the network service before calling 'pm-suspend' on the server directly I can wake it with a WOL command from my laptop. I checked (via ethtool) and saw that disabling the network actually leaves the wol flag for the network card on g, but starting the network service again sets it to d. I have read many howtos and forum posts, but am at a loss right now.
Does anyone have hints or an idea to where to look now?
EDIT: Oh man, could this have really been so easy?
It turns out that I simply need to stop the network service at suspend and start it again at resume, I don't even need to unload the driver module of my network card, doh. What put me off track were all my previous attempts under Ubuntu where I had tried the same thing following provided means (trough acpi) of the distro, seems I messed up there or the documentation was out of date. I now just created a hook completely myself following the Arch documentation for pm-utils and it works now!

I also have to re-enable wol in the script, and at a cold boot I do the same through '/etc/rc.local'.

I agree iMessage is the worst thing Apple have done! Took me 3 days to work out why my text messages were not being sent, more oddly, text message were apearing on my Ipad whcih is is not the 3g model! just switch it off insettings. Other than the iOS 7 is pretty good!

  • Will IMessage ever work again?

I thought it was a problem with texting. But it's iMessage. Apple told me to do a restore (after I was forced to do this when downloading ios7). Problem is not fixed. I'm not getting about 50% of texts. I've done everything could to fix this.
Will this get better with a new update or fix on its own? Or is it actually my phone? I believe it is still under warranty. He showed me I had severa important l system apps crashing in his diagnostic tool.
I'm frustrated as ****. My phone resets itself randomly.
iOS 7 update was the worst thing I've ever done to my poor phone.
What the **** should I do?
(Besides get an android, not eligible for upgrade yet!)
