Odd title sort

I just uploaded 3 CDs into iTunes and created playlists for them but when I synched it to my iPod, the titles sort differently. On iTunes, the titles run in track order according to the number in the left hand column but they're sorted alphabetically according to title on my iPod.

Try right clicking on a playlist in iTunes and choose "copy to play order".
Then re-sync your iPod.

  • Alphabetize Song Title Sort Order Under Genre on iPod

    Here is the general idea of what I am trying to do on the iPod.  When viewing songs on the iPod, if I select Genre from the main menu, I cannot find a way to display all the song titles in a selected genre in alphabetical order.  This can be done easily with the songs in iTunes on the laptop or desktop but seemingly not in the iPod.  There is no big problem if you have only a handful of songs in any one genre but if you have several hundred songs in a particular genre and titles do not display in alphabetical order, then finding a desired song is very time consuming and necessitates scrolling through the entire list.  Is there a way to alphabetize the song title sort order within Genre on the iPod?

    Get external hard drive.  Backup all your music files and wipeout iTunes from computer.   The. Reinstall and update version if necessary. The. Connect external hard drive and set hard drive folder at default in iTunes preferences.  Transfer music to library and when prompted hit automatic organizing z

  • Bug in iTunes numeric title sort.

    The Bug in the sort-function of the iPod results in mixed up track list.
    An album with more then 9 tracks will be sorted in the wrong way, when only title or filename or the album field is just to give a track a number. The play order is 1, 10, 11, 12, 13, 2, 3 , 4 , 5, 6.... instead of the correct order 1,2,3,4,5,6...10,11, 12...
    (Same issue with album numbers in Compliations. CD1, CD10, CD11, CD12, CD2, CD3....)
    For example: After playing the track named "The Beatles - Yellow Submarine - 1 - Yellow Submarine" the ipod/iTunes will play "The Beatles - Yellow Submarine - 10 - Baby, You´re A Rich Man" instead of "The Beatles - Yellow Submarine - 2 - Hey Bulldog."
    The programmer have to search the string for numbers and join all numeric values to a single number.
    Example: Sample data :abc123. is "a" a number? no. is "b" a number no. is "c" a number no. is "1" a number? yes. store. is "2" a number? yes. join to "1". (now we have "12"). is "3" a number? yes. join to "12". (Now we have "123") -> EOL
    Is "123" larger than "99"? yes! is "123" larger than 124. no!
    Thats it. In perl you need 1 line of sourcecode, in c and c++ this can be done in 10 lines. In java there a objects for this type of work.
    And every user will be happy and nobody has to do the 01, 02, 03 workaround or reimport their audiobooks.
    (I guess its easy and dn´t need much more performance... iTunes uses enough ram to extra cache this operation.)
    Alternativly Apple should thing about storing the original filename in the ID3 tag or itunes database. This would make sorting the files without id3 tags (believe me or not, there are many people using mp3 for 10 years and have no id3 tags in there mp3-library) in itunes possible. (there is a god free tagger for mac os but no for windows.)
    A company like Apple should have the ability to correct the error / bug in the iPod-firmware (have the same issue in classic and iphone) or itunes-softwar.
    This is a wellknown and very common error done by newbie programmers or people who have not read the documentation of the software-libraries.

    Whether you like the idea or not, the appropriate place to to incorporate information about the contents of media files is inside the tag, not the filename. Modern media software is generally designed to extract and use this information. As you have indicated users are free to choose their own filename conventions which often cannot be correctly interpreted by software. iTunes & iPod can provide you with many more ways to organise & select your music with the correct information than will be the case if, as you seem to imply, the only field present is the Name which iTunes will take from the filename if it can't find a tag.
    Assuming you've been consistent with your naming scheme a small investment of time with a tagging program could populate the ID3 tags by parsing the different sections of the name into the appropriate fields. Magic File Renamer, The Rename and similar programs can even be used just to add the leading zeros to the track number section of the filenames if you really want to hold out against adding tags. If you use a 3rd party tagger you need to force iTunes to rescan the information thus: CTRL-A (select all), CTRL-I (get info.), click OK (read the tag & update with any changes - you didn't make any before you clicked OK did you? - and update the iTunes database with the current info.) If you move or rename files outside of iTunes you can either manually remove & reimport files or use one of the tools I suggest below.
    A year ago I spent some time preparing a list of over 50 ideas for improving iTunes & iPod all of which I consider would be easy to program and would make the products nicer to use. The reality is that Apple is a large and mostly deaf corporation. I've sent my ideas to iTunes Feedback & iPod Feedback but who knows if anyone who could influnce future development ever got to see them. What is clear is that new features are generally only introduced on new models. Rather than railing that it could be better (granted) it is much more productive to gain an understanding of the way that the software works and try to accomodate for it. See, for example, my postings on Grouping tracks into albums or Find tracks without artwork where I've shared my experience on how to get all my albums organised neatly & consistently. As I mentioned elsewhere I have an iRiver and while trawling a folder structure to locate music works I'm much happier with my instant-on, fully organised & artworked iPod where I can see artwork as I'm selecting music, play videos & games and store so much more.

    *Adding new items/removing orphans*
    Try iTunes Folder Watch or iTunes Library Updater. Folder Watch is much faster on the adding files front, can be set to run in the background and includes a useful exclusion feature, however it’s really slow at removing orphans. iTLU is better for this although doing it manually after looking at a list of proposed removals generated by Folder Watch is probably faster still. iTLU can also be set to update iTunes when you've used 3rd party tools to change tag info.

  • Movie titles sorting with "The"

    I have over 1500 movie titlesd in iTunes and am not quite understanding how the sorting is occuring.
    For instance, these movie titles are sorted under the title ignoring "The" :
    The A-Team (filed under "A")
    The Big Lebowski (filed under "B")
    The Black Hole (filed under "B")
    The Fast and the Furious (filed under "F")
    And coutless others.
    While all these  titles are filed under "T" using THE as the first word in the title:
    The Pursuit of Happyness
    The Transporter
    The Princess and the Frog
    The Watch
    As well as countless others.
    There is no reason that I can see why iTunes would choose to do this with some, but not all. Make searching for movies quite a pain in the butt! Anyone know of a way to change this, one way or the other? I really dont care which way, either all the titles that start with THE are under "T" or all the THE is ignored and they follow the second available letter...
    Anyone? Bueller?

    By default iTunes takes values in selected fields such as Artist, Album Artist, Album, Name etc. that begin with an article (a/an/the, or local equivalents in other countries) and places the value without the article in the corresponding sort field. Hence The A-Team is normally sorted as A-Team. You can change the order by manually putting your preferred value in the sort field. So, at a guess, The Watch has The Watch in the sort name or sort album field. In principle if your delete the current value in the sort field you should get the default auto-sort entry.

  • Title sorting on TV movies menu?

    I am streaming all my movies from iTunes and it does not matter how I sort my iTunes listing (genre, rating etc...), it appears that TV list the movies in alphabetical order all the time.
    Any way I could get my streaming TV movie list match the order of my iTunes list?
    Thanks

    Any way I could get my streaming TV movie list match the order of my iTunes list?Change your iTunes list order to alphabetical on title -- then they will match. Otherwise you would have to key your titles to the sort list you want. (EX: AdvJB01: Dr. No, AdvJB02: From Russia with Love, etc for "Adventure" genre, "James Bond" movie, "movie number" within series, "Title" of movie, etc.) You can add as many "keys as you like. (E.g., Title by numbered series, by rating, by genre, etc.) However, for most people this may be too much work. Recommend you post a "feature request" to iTunes/TV(if they get around to creating one) Product Feedback area. If enough people complain/request a change, perhaps Apple will place more emphasis on fixing the problem.

  • Odd problem trying to sort audiobooks

    i have quite a collection of audiobooks, that i had previously had jsut in my music library as mp3s, with large numbers of files for each one
    last night i discovered a piece of software that let me join the files together to create jsut one or two files that i could then have in the audiobooks section
    however, i seem to be having trouble getting them to display in the correct order
    specifically i am having trouble with the discworld audiobooks
    they are titled as such:
    name: bookname - Part #
    artist: Terry Pratchett
    track number: track #
    album: Discworld book # - book title
    sort album: book #
    yet for some reason they appear in the wrong order currently 1,2,4,9,11,3,5,6,7,8,10
    can anyone explain why they won't display in the correct numerical order
    also, on the ipod itself, is there a way to get the audiobooks menu to display by artist, as presently it has all my audiobooks jumbled up ordereed alphabetically, i'd like to be able to select the author, and then have the books displayed in chronological order

    Anyone with Unlimited Anytime Calls should check their package hasn't changed when broadband is added.
    I ordered this combination and migrated from Plusnet. My first monthly bill (phone only) showed the correct plan, but with the 2nd bill I got a nasty surprise with charges for a load of calls that should have been inclusive. It turned out that Unlimited Anytime Plan had been "accidentally" removed when my broadband service was activated

  • How do I get Iphoto to preserve the sort order when I transfer an album?

    Here's my problem. I carefully sorted my album of 230 photos manually. Each photo was then numbered from 1 to 230.   Then I used IPhoto Library Manager to transfer this album someplace else -- to my desktop, to a thumb drive, to Dropbox---   In every case, when I did that, the photos themselves transfered just fine,  but the sort order I had so carefully constructed has fallen apart and cannot by retrieved. Even  when I  close and then reopen an Album I have transferred to my Desktop, it loses its sort order.  This is driving my crazy  because I need to transfer this album so that it preserves the slideshow I have designed for it. A slideshow, of course, demands preserving the order of the slides.
    In short, how can I preserve the sort order of an album when I transfer it out of one library to another?

    If you're transferring to another library, why are you exporting to the Finder (which is what Desktop, thumbdrive and DropBox are). This doesn’t understand manual sorting from iPhoto.
    Here's one (of several) way(s) to do what you want:
    Make an Album of the photos, then drag the pics into your preferred order.
    Then Photos Menu: Batch Change -> Set Title to Text "John's Birthday", for instance, and tick the box to append a number to each Photo. Now your photos are titled 'John's Birthday 001, John's Birthday 002 ... etc'
    Then File -> Export and in the Export dialogue set the Filename to "Use Title"
    Sort on Filename in the FInder and you end up with a folder full of images in the same order as the Album in iPhoto.

  • Report header with images instead of text - sort is screwed up

    Hi all,
    I have a package which returns a given text in from of an image file - I adjusted my template to use the package etc. So far so good - no problems. Only if I enable the sorting for the columns I get a screwed up result !
    My Column Heading Template is
    <th class="t18ReportHeader" #ALIGNMENT# valign="Bottom" id="#COLUMN_HEADER_NAME#">
    <img src="IMAGE.GET?p_text=#COLUMN_HEADER#&p_attribute=BG:EFEFEF:FC:000000:ANGLE:70">
    </th>
    With sorting enabled this shows up as:
    <th class="t18ReportHeader" align="left" valign="Bottom" id="PERSON_ID">
    <img src="IMAGE.GET?p_text= *<a href="javascript:$a_report('2152526465901175',false,false,false,'fsp_sort_1_desc')" title="Sort by this column">* Employee Name *</a><img src="/i/arrow_up_gray_dark.gif" width="13" height="12" alt="" alt="Sort by this column" />* &p_attribute=BG:EFEFEF:FC:000000:ANGLE:70">
    </th>
    As you can see the procedure IMAGE.GET?p_text= is not called with the right parameter (should be "IMAGE.GET?p_text=Text&p_attribute=...")
    I also looked into the possibility to use PL/SQL heading and return the <IMG ...> code myself - but where would I store/manage the descriptions ? (Also this would break my Export functions)
    My question is: are there any other substitution variables available to define the header text- and maybe the sort ? Or has anybody else any other idea ?
    Thanks a lot
    Thomas

    Hi,
    That is an interesting problem... The easiest option I see is to remove the img tag from the template and add it to the column header itself (in the report definition). For instance, put this in the column header:
    &lt;img src="IMAGE.GET?p_text=Employee Name&p_attribute=BG:EFEFEF:FC:000000:ANGLE:70"/&gt;
    I think this would work for sorting, but probably not for CSV export. What you could do for the CSV export would be create copies of all columns, set the column titles to plain text, and set the conditional display of them based on CSV output or not. A bit of pain but would be bearable if not too many columns...
    I hope this helps...
    Luis

  • The play option is not available on some iTunes extra titles on Apple TV

    With the latest update iTunes extra has been added to Apple TV, which is pretty cool.  BUT some titles do not have the "play" option once you are in the iTunes extra menu.  All the features are there, but the play option is not.  This is particularly happening with the movie Planes.  Other Disney titles, and non-disney titles, seem to irk fine.  It works from my MacBook Pro.  I have logged out and back into iTunes on my ATV with no change.  Any ideas?

    It sounds like lack of testing with these titles in all honesty.
    I guess you could also alert itunes Store support to this.  Hoepfully it's just the odd title here and there, and something that can be quickly fixed, but kids won't understand that!
    I'm dissapointed that the old Extras I have downloaded in iTunes won't work as they would with AppleTV 1 when streamed from iTunes.
    Uncertain if you can download Extras to iTunes anymore either if they are cloud dependent and in some new format perhaps.  Yet to try but I don't think they'd work via Home Sharing.

  • Some sort order functionality not working

    I am noticing that after uploading to iCloud, many of my songs and albums no longer sort as specified. Sorting does work where I have specified last name first for artist, but it does not appear to work for other fields. For example, rather than have my many "Best of X" albums all sort under "B", in iTunes I have them sort under "X". (Ditto "Greatest Hits of Y" and so on).  In the album lists on my iDevices, they are all back to sorting under "B." Nondefault Song Title sorting also does not survive uploading to iCloud.
    This is more of a comment to Apple than to the community; it would be nice to fix this in a future update. Meanwhile, if anyone has any suggestions or workarounds, I'd appreciate hearing them.

    I recently noticed the same thing and posted the following under a similar thread:
    I recently bought the album “The Bespoke Man’s Narrative”  via the iTunes Store on my Mac.  In iTunes, it sorts properly under B.  In the iOS devices, via iTunes Match, it sorts under T.  Updating the Album Sort info in iTunes has no effect.  The only way I’ve found to solve it, is to change the album title.  However, I have tens of other albums that start with "A" or "The" sort just fine via iTunes Match.  I don’t understand why this new purchase is behaving differently.

  • Specifying alphabetic sort order for other languages.

    The alphabetic sort order differs slightly for other languages then the English one. I rewrite the alphabetics in the special text flow of the Reference Page of the index file, regenerate the index file, but the result is wrong. The special Group Title characters for greek, hungarian, czech, russian etc. languages are combined among latin Group Title characters.
    We work in FM 8 to create 3000 pages technical documentation in 14 languages. The output will be pdf file and help system. Our main problem now the index Group Titles sort order. Could you help me to solve this problem?
    Thank you so much
    Eva

    Michael,
    Thank you so much for your answer. It works great. I have a promlem only one letter, which is in the Czech alphabetics: "Ch". This letter would be after the "H". I have edited the sort order like this:
    Symbols[\ ];Numerics[0];A;B;C;Č;D;E;F;G;H;Chch;I;J;K;L;M;N;O;P;Q;R;Ř;S;Š;T;U;Ú;V;W;X;Y;Z
    <$symbols><$numerics>Aa Bb Cc *Čč* Dd Ee Ff Gg Hh Chch Ii Jj Kk Ll Mm Nn Oo Pp Qq Rr Řř Ss Šš Tt Uu Úú Vv Ww Xx Zz
    The result in the generated index is, that the index entries beginning with Ch comes on below "C" and the GroupTitle "Ch" is disappearing. Take a look at the result in the generated index file, what I am talking about:

    Sort="list" in display:table and
    sortable="true" in display:column
    Now i am facing problems in sorting a few columns as the values in the columns are numbers like Date (DD-MM-YYYY HH:MM:SS) and not string.
    How can these be sorted?
    Please help,
    Thank you.

    If it's the same display:table component I'm thinking of, then....
    If the actual object is a Comparable object (like Date) then it can be.
    Otherwise, there is a column attribute called sortByProperty, whereby you can create a method in a decorator class for this property that should return a Comparable object that will be used...
    <display:column property="prop" title="title" sort="true" sortByProperty="comparable" />
         public Comparable getComparable() {
              // create some Comparable object, maybe a string representation of the object for the column
              // or some other object that implements that interface....
         }

  • Photos missing after manually sorting them.

    After moving photos from camera roll to iTunes image-sync folder, some images will not resync to my phone. I do not use iPhoto. Pictures was taken by the iPhone 4. Help?
    I have a folder on my computer where from iTunes Autosync images. I use this to be able to sort my images into folders/albums without using iPhoto. However after doing this not all of the photos taken by the iPhone 4 will resync to the iPhone and I cannot figgure out why.

    When you copied them to the flash drive you took them out of iPhoto and into the Finder. The Finder doesn't understand manual sorting.

  • Jtable column title

    I want to sort a JTable by clicking a column title
    (sort according to that column's values)
    I thought about adding an actionListener to the titles
    and then sort my data Vector and use fireTableChanged().
    is there a better way, does a JTable have a method to do it on it's own ?
