Odd Vista 64-bit Ultra behavior with BC 2.1

I successfully installed BC 2.1 drivers on my XP OS on the other MBP last night. It appeared in the Apple Software Update.
However, this morning, on this box, I booted into Vista and expected to see the BC update in the Apple Software update window.
I did receive the same small update as I did on XP, but after installing everything and rebooting, I still did not receive notification of the big BC update.
I downloaded the correct version manually and started the install.
When I clicked it, Vista asked me if I trusted it, (as usual) and I clicked "Yes"
After that, nothing happened. I waited for a few minutes and then turned on the graphic activity monitor but it was not running.
I repeated the process and got the same results (No, I am not crazy, it's software )
When I get back into Vista, I will turn off all the security stuff, keep the box off-line and see if that helps.
So far, I am batting 500. My XP is fine and updated, Vista is still running fine, but the update did not activate.
I wonder if anyone else has experienced this strange thing - the exe file opening, Vista asking for permission, and then - - - nothing.

Seriously. I am very upset at Apple for screwing this up and not fixing it ASAP.
Are you running Vista 64-bit yourself? You seem to be more ranting than expressing a problem.
Apple touts that their machines are better because the software and hardware are specifically designed for together, and although this is true for Macintosh, I am very disappointed that they decided to screw Windows users.
More ranting, no specific issue
It's not that hard to provide working 64-bit drivers for only a few machine types. There are so many 64-bit versions of their Intel machines (since 2006?).
I don't know about that. You are just surmising about software. Do you have a specific issue?
This is bad for business. Although ironic, many people use Windows on their Macs only. Paying a premium for Apple hardware and not receiving what is to be expected or beyond an ordinary PC will definitely stop repeat customers.
This is not a showstopper. My Vista Ultimate 64-bit system is working fine without the update and I am sure Apple will deal with it properly. Apple did not support 64-bit OSs. We who are running Vista 64-bit knew this from the get-go. We had to initially find our own drivers.
Anyone needing Windows for business would be foolish to be running an unsupported OS, such as Vista 64-bit on a Mac. I installed it to learn things.
Vista 32-bit is supported under BootCamp, as well as XP. Read the system requirements for BootCamp before spending time posting a non-technical message on a technical board.
That being said, I suggest anyone having problems to report it on the developer's website contact form.

  • My Tungsten E2 is no longer compatible with my computer, because my new computer has Microsoft Vista (64-bit) - anyone else with the same complaint?

I can't believe that Palm doesn't come up with a fix or patch for the Tungsten E2 to be compatible with M/S Vista (64-bit), or a new Palm Pilot that will work with Vista.  I use(d) my Palm all the time, and have found it terribly inconvenient that not I'm without the use of it, or at least the ability to back up or synchronize the Palm with my computer, in the off chance that my Palm crashed and I lost everything I have in it.  Anyone feel the same?

  • OEM Vista 64 bit finally installed with bootcamp

As indicated in earlier posts, both Apple and Fusion techs told me to give up on installing OEM Vista 64 bit -- despite the fact that other posters have successfully installed OEM Vista 32 and 64 bit. My install process is set forth below; I have some other questions re: Vista, some related partition questions and a question re: Fusion and Vista.
    Install of Vista:
    1. Used Superduper to clone Mac OS X and apps on the raptor in bay one to the Hitachi 1T.
    2. Removed raptor from bay one and booted up on 1 T on bay 2.
    3. Used Boot Camp Assistant to create a boot camp partition on 1 T of about 119 Gb.
    4. Inserted OEM System Builder Vista 64 bit.
    5. After following the instructions, I got to the point where I couldn't get the install to work back in March -- i.e., after selecting boot camp partition, the "next" button would not highlight and let me move on with the installation. I got past this point by clicking on a button on the far right (same page where I selected the boot camp partition) and clicked on "driver options" or some such item. This opened up a selection of items including "format." I clicked on format and the installation proceeded.
    6. I encountered another problem that took a couple of complete restarts and erasing of the the Hitachi 1 T and re-copying etc. with SuperDuper -- i.e., a black screen came up a couple of times and told me to hit any key (to reboot) -- big mistake. When I did this, the Vista installation disc started all over and tried to create another partition in addition to the boot camp one (but when I tried to proceed and select a partition -- boot camp did not show up. So Do Not Touch any key when the black screen comes up. The installation will proceed.
    7. Last glitch -- when the installation appeared to be completed -- after several reboots -- the Vista installation screen showed up again. I learned from several other experiences not to start the installation over. Rather, I hit the delete button on the screen (X) and forced a reboot.
    8. When it rebooted and sounded the restart, I held the option key down to get to the screen where I could open Mac OS X.
    9. I noticed that there were two window options but ignored them and opened Mac OS X.
    10. I hit the eject button and removed the Windows installation disc and went to preferences and start up and set Mac OS X as the start up op.
    11. I then rebooted and held the option key down so that I could open windows. When I did Vista 64 bit opened (but not at the higher resolution).
    12. I then inserted the Mac OS X disc (disc No. 1) and installed the drivers and other items from the install disc. Rebooted and higher resolution was there and keyboard worked properly.
    13. I then updated Vista (took long time and reboots) and eventually installed Sp 1 for Vista. Downloaded Bonjour to get the Brother laser printer on the Network to work.
    14. I also reinstalled the raptor and have been running the Mac OS X and apps off of the Raptor in bay 1.
    Questions:
    1. I can't seem to get the office Nortel contivity to work; it appears that there is some difficulty with Vista 64 bit. Any advice?
    2. Should I remove the Mac OS X and apps from the Hitachi 1 T from bay 2? Would this removal affect Vista (probably not)?
    3. If I remove Mac OS X from bay 2, I was thinking that I would repartition this part of the hard drive and create two partitions (for a total of 3 partitions counting the bootcamp with Vista). I would than make a Superduper copy of the Mac OS X and apps from bay one and just keep that periodically updated to have a current backup (I have the original 320 gb drive in a box with the original Mac OS X and apps as an additional backup). I would the other partition for storage. Comments?
    4. I still have not been able to get Fusion installed on bay one. Does anyone know how to completely uninstall Fusion? The Fusion techs have been clueless and apparently don't have a very good understanding of their own product. They still think that you cannot install OEM Vista on a 2008 Mac Pro; they tell me to come back after I buy a full retail version -- good grief!
Should I try to install Fusion on bay 2 and try to access Vista from there?
This install procedure is probably obvious to some but this is my first Mac and it definitely was not obvious to me. In any event, hopefully this lengthy description will help others who have been having difficulty in installing OEM Vista 64 bit on a 2008 Mac Pro.
Thanks to all for your advice and especially Joseph Wiedermann.

  • Re-install CS3 on my old Vista 64 bit computer now with Windows 7 64 bit

Hello----I had Windows 7 64 bit  installed on my old computer which had Vista 64 bit.  I'd like to re-install CS3 and Lightroom 2 both of which I had on the Vista system.  Do I need to get permission from Adobe to reinstall?  I have serial numbers ready.   [email protected]

As long as you de-activated PS CS3 before replacing your operating system, no. Not sure about lightroom.
PS CS3 can be activated on 2 seperate computers. You still have one activation remaining and will not have to call in to Adobe to activate.

Hi, thanks for your Flash file info. Well you must have been doing it right, since all of your Flash files for IE and FF are correct.
The SWF plugin for FF and the SWO for IE are also correct.
You shouldn't be having any problems with Flash Player.
What you can try is to turn off the hardware acceleration feature. Go to any video, like youtube and right click on the video and click on Settings. Display Settings is where you will UN check hardware acceleration.
See if that helps. Let me know.

I am really feel bad that no one replied from Apple.I dont know whether you guyz are looking on this forum. But I tried the given SDK 7.3 with Vista 32 bit and also with XP. In both the OS its working fine. But It not supports Vista 64 bit. May be Microsoft or apple has to provide compatibility for developing quicktime app using windows. Thanks.

Its working properly on Windows XP 32 bit Development Environment.
    Please advice.
    Thanks in advance

    Couple of things to consider;
    1) CR XI r2 is not 64 bit
    2) The MSI you installed is for CR 10.2 which ships with .NET 2005, not CR XI r2.
    3) To use CR XI r2 on Vista, you must have applied at least SP 4

  • PS CS4 shuts down when opening a new document in Windows Vista 32 bit

It worked fine for many years ... I recently had to do a system restore, start from scratch installing all programs.
Now PS has problems (everything else works fine in CS4 as far as I know).
It opens in the regular screen ....until I open a new photo. The JPEG appears briefly ... then the program shuts down.
I performed the color profile rollback, reinstalled like I was told to by Adobe Support Advisor ... still doesn't work. Extremely frustrating. Since the rollback, it reinstalls "With Errors". ???
I am on Windows Vista 32-bit, 4GB RAM with SP 2 installed. I have been around the web reading comments on forums, nothing is working. To me it seems like a simple fix ... but I just need to know what to do. *I am highly reluctant to go into the reg settings and start editing, like some suggest on these forums. That is just asking for trouble and having to do another painful full system restore.
The suite has worked very well for years ... until now. And just with PS I am having the problems ??? I don't get it. Troubleshooting not my specialty.
    Any help would be appreciated.

It seems that this is the good old "I think it's 64bit" error. It tries to install 64bit components on your 32bit system. This specifically comes down to some DLLs on your system being missing or the wrong version, possibly even a hardware driver returning some false info (processor controlelr etc.) I'd check Windows Update and verify the SP2 is installed correctly. Also make sure your MSVC 2008 runtime and possibly .NET 1.1 are isntalled correctly. Verify in your device manager that the CPU is detected correctly and Windows isn't running in some sort of compatibility mode. if there came a specific set of drivers with your motehrboard, installing them alone might fix a lot of things, as then you actualyl may also see Windows Update install some components for the first time that may be missing currently...

  • Palm Z22 won't sync to new laptop Windows Vista 64 bit

I just got a new laptop and I am unable to sync my Palm Z22 with windows vista 64 bit.  My computer keeps saying I need a device driver installed but it can't find it.  I did read some of the other threads but am still confused.  My laptop is bluetooth compatible but my palm is not.  Is there a way to make my Palm bluetooth capable?  Or any other way for the device to sync?
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

Because the Z22 has neither Bluetooth or Wi-Fi (and has no way to add either, because it lacks an expansion card slot), the only way to Hotsync your Z22 to a Vista 64-bit computer is with Infrared (IR) beaming.  That means you will need to buy an IR adapter for your computer.  I don't have direct experience in making it work, but this thread discusses how:

  • Windows Vista - 32-bit or 64-bit

    Hi all,
I'm building a new machine and I'll be installing everything from scratch. LR is pretty much the only heavy-weight program I use and the main reason for getting a new machine.
I'm wondering if LR would work better in 32-bit or 64-bit Vista? I know the 64-bit version would have higher memory limits available but in terms of computational power would there be a difference. I'd think not but I'd don't know that for a fact.
    Thanks,
    Nick

    Nick,
Over the past 6 months I went from XP32-bit to Vista 64-bit, same machine with a fresh install.  I had the xp "switch" turned on to allow around 3.2GB memory of the 4GB installed.  The speed increase going to Vista 64 was close to double in most of the LR functions.  It is ABSOLUTELY worth migrating to 64-bit.
In the end though, my single core, hyperthreaded processor still would not allow me to use the adjustment brush since it basically goes to 100% utilization and stays there for 10 seconds for each small stroke and created streaks across the page when moving to turn the brush off.  I basically did not use it at all.  Thus, when I built my new machine a couple of weeks ago I decided to try Windows7.  Love it for LR.
So ... in my opinion you definitely want to go to 64-bit and Windows7.  The Windows7 has all the feel of Vista64 with (in my case) none of the conflicts, etc.  Four cores and 8GB of memory would also be my suggested minimum.
    Hope this helps.

  • Where can I find Vista 64-Bit drivers for the Satellite A100-049?

I currently run Vista Home Premium SP1 32-Bit and do so because there appears to only be 32-Bit drivers on Tosiba's website:
    [http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/vista_drivers.jsp?macId=&mode=allMachines&userOS=& action=search&selCategory=2&selFamily=2&selSeries= 153&selProduct=700&selOS=2]
Where can I find Vista 64-Bit drivers for the Toshiba Satellite A100-049?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply.
That's rubbish. Vista 64-bit runs fine with 2Gb and my laptop supports up to 4Gb.
We'll never move on to 64-Bit if companies don't provide drivers.
I'll look at those sites. I've had trouble installing nVidia drivers from nVidia website.
I have to use the one provided by Toshiba.
Hopefully I won't find this when trying 64-Bit. My plan is to go 64-Bit with Windows 7 so no rush just yet.
As I understand it Vista drivers will work with Windows 7.
Thankfully when I reinstalled Vista 32-Bit not long ago using an OEM from Technet I only need 2-3 drivers from Toshiba website, most of it they give to download you don't need at all.
    Thanks again.
p.s - They do offer 64-Bit drivers for my network card though.

  • Palm Z22 and sync with Windows Vista 64-bit system

I have  been trying to sync my Palm Z22 with a new laptop that is running the 64-bit Vista.  Based on some posts I had located, I ordered an IrDA Wireless Bridge to try to resolve the connection problem.  Something isn't working right and I can't figure out how to fix the problem.  The IrDA adapter is listing in the hardware option on the computer so it appears to have installed correctly.  The laptop has inconsistently recognized the USB connection when I plug it in however.  I can not seem to get the IrDA adapter to recognize my Z22.  I've got the Z22 set up to use the infrared to transfer information.  I have noted that the "beam" feature is ON.  I have looked at APPS and have observed that most of those options are "locked" and when I have clicked on "contacts" for example, it says it's a locked app and can not be beamed.  I don't know if that is part of the problem  or unrelated.  I also happened to observe that the Apps are listed as what to transfer with MODEM connection but I'm not sure why that is even showing as a connection option since I've never used the modem to connect.
I can successfully use my Z22 to connect via USB cable to my Vista 32-bit computer system.  I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong in my attempts to use the adapter and connecting the Z22 with the new laptop.
I'm not sure what else to do and would very much appreciate some help with this.  Could someone PLEASE tell me what I may be doing wrong re: the setup connection between the adapter and Z22 or any other ideas re: what the problem may be concerning why I'm not yet being successful in getting this setup to work...?
Many thanks in advance for any assistance with this problem.
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

Sorry for the delay in replying (bet you were hoping this worked, huh?) but it has taken some time to uninstall & reinstall the Palm software and make numerous attempts to configure the information to again try to sync the Z22 with the laptop.  I went back to amazon.com and located the device I'd purchased to confirm it would work with the 64-bit Vista.  Someone had posted their success in using the adapter for exactly what I need to do - sync my Z22 with a 64-bit Vista computer.  That consumer's posting noted: "The USB 1510 provided the solution. As soon as I plugged it into the USB port of the laptop, Vista went online, found the driver, and installed it. I was able to set up IR Hotsync as I would have on any laptop with a built-in IRDA port."
I don't know what problem I'm having but have noted that my palm desktop software doesn't note what device (Z22) is to be connected and I can't find anything in the HotSync manager that allows me to specify that device.  For some reason, I had gotten an error message and it referenced a Treo connection which is odd since I don't have a Treo and I downloaded this Palm desktop from the Z22 site online...?  I did note my software on my Z22 is a v. 5 but when I checked various support sites online, it appears to indicate that version on my Z22 would be compatible with the Palm 6.2 version I just downloaded to my computer (and I can't find any information to indicate a newer software for my Z22 is available or how to do that either).
So, I'm back to not being able to get my Z22 to be recognized by my computer via the infrared adapter.  I'm hoping that some of the added information I've been able to provide may give another clue of something else I can try before I have to give up and contact Amazon to return this device and either try to decide what other device may be an option.  I had checked with a local computer supply store here but they don't carry any type of device for this purpose so that's why I resorted to searching online for a solution to this problem.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you may still be able to provide.  I really do appreciate your time with this matter.

  • How to sync with vista 64 bit windows calendar and windows contacts

    Hi all,
I see the clear msg on the Palm site saying that 64 bit windows is not supported, but that is still my need and my goal.  I just bought a new DELL desktop and am transitioning to it, but this is a showstopper.
I want to ask if any user has suggestions or if anyone has insight as to if/when palm will sppt it.  Today its hard to buy a machine in a retail store that is not loaded w Vista64...and I spoke to Dell about this, since they need to warn people that the OS may prohibit a person from replacing his old Dell with a new one, but they say its a Palm/Msft problem.
My Tungsten E2 is important to me, and I want to sync it daily.  I am not very sophisticated when it comes to PC's or the OS's although i have learned a lot in the past 3 days.  I have no room to keep 2 machines, nor desire.  Any suggestions besides 'let the buyer beware'?

I've been a Palm user for only 1 Year now and am not impressed.  Sure the 755P was a flashy device with cool features.  However, now after owning the device for a short period I'm looking for updates from Palm which don't exist.  The browser in antiquated and doesn't support recent technology.  The email system is effective, however, hope you don't receive an HTML email because you can't read it in Versamail.  Palm is focused on trying to produce new devices which compete with the IPhone and Storm but aren't remembering that their loyal customers will continue to purchase devices from them if they keep them happy. Futher, after upgrading my wife's laptop to Vista 64-bit I find that we can no longer sync the device using the interface cable.
My advice at this time, is to stay away from Palm until they provide the service which customers have come to expect.  I note today 12/7/08 that Palm is selling at $1.42 a share when just 8 years ago Palm stock was selling for $472.50.  Don't you see the picture, people are interested in the new flashy devices, but, if you don't take care of your customer base which has been loyal they will jump ship and move on to the better technology which works.
How about providing the updates we need to work today.  It will help me make up my mind next year when this 2-yr contract with Alltel is up (and i become a new Verizon) customer.
The matter is all in Palm's hands.  I don't see this company surviving past 2010 unless they start taking care of people now.  My advice, stay away from Palm until they fix all these issues which people have identified throughout the web.

  • Internet Security Suite does not work with Vista 64 bit

After attempting to use the Chat Help, twice, and spending hours in queue before getting kicked off, I finally called Support to find out why my new Vista computer was not running the Internet Security Suite that I downloaded.  Yes, I found the link to "download to a second computer" and went thru all the steps.  Got lots of positive feedback: little bars were filling in letting me know I was 40%, 72%, 100% done, etc..  Was given a window allowing me to Run or Don't Run the software.  It all seemed to go very well.  However, when the "download and installation" was complete, there was no new software running anywhere on my computer.  Couldn't find it in the Control Panel, the Start menu, or the system tray.  Called Support and spent at least 30 minutes on the phone with a "technician" (and I use that term VERY loosely) who had to have major assistance from a co-worker before he could even start screen-sharing with me and, during the course of our time together, made the following brilliant remarks:
Upon seeing my desktop wallpaper (which is a lovely photo of some cliffs and a lake - and it came with Vista), he wanted to know what the picture was.  Not where it was taken, but just what it was.  His exact comment was "Does your screen always look like that?".  I had to dig deeper to determine if he was asking about a particular icon or some other computer related concern that he saw (he was "technical support", after all), but he was just asking about the stupid photo.
He couldn't find the Control Panel in the Start Menu until after trying several times, and then he couldn't navigate to the Programs area very well (I had to give verbal hints as to where it was), and his brilliant comment then was "I really need to go to my mom's house and get on her new laptop and try out Vista."  Can you believe that Verizon has technical support folks who have never used Vista?  It's not like Vista just came on the market yesterday!!
So, when he finally decided that he was not going to be able to help me, he didn't offer me any other recourse.  He just stated over and over that he was not sure how to solve this issue.  Oh, and this was after I re-downloaded ISS (again, "successfully").  I had to ask if there was someone else there who could possibly help me.  He offered to put me on hold (for the 2nd or 3rd time at this point) to check around.  When he returned to the phone, it was obvious that someone else was operating the mouse in the screen sharing mode because the operator moved confidentially around the screen and went immediately to system properties and saw that I am running Windows 64 bit.  The other operator then told my guy to tell me that ISS only works with Windows 32 bit.  Their final resolution was that I should call billing on Monday and end my subscription.  I think that may be the only good advice I was given that day.
So, am probably going to renew my trial version of Norton on this new computer and remove ISS from the laptop and put Norton on there as well.  Apparently, they are up to date with this fancy new technology.  At least they probably know about sophisticated and highly technical stuff like desktop wallpaper.

I have been trying to get somewhere with this Internet Security Suite...and now have come to the conclusion this is not going to work.  Now running Vista 64 bit, and have gotten nothing but the run around to try to complete the downloading of the program.  I've contacted Verizon Tech Support...then tell me that this works with the 64 bit but I need to contact Windows as there is a glitch and they give you the steps to get thru it.  Windows advises me to contact Verizon again as there are no problems with the OS.  Also have contacted Radialpoint and once again nothing...Obviously the Secuirty is not compatible with Vista 64 bit yet, which I just can't believe like you said...it's not like it was just yesterday this OS came out.  My frusteration comes from nobody steps up to take any responsibility as to what the problem is.  If it is not compatible yet then say so and not waste my whole weekend trying to get a straight answer.  I have other computers that I am currently using the service on and do like the program, but as for my Vista 64 bit looks like I may go to Macafee for protection.  It just amazes me as big as Verizon is and as popular this Vista has become they are not on the ball in keeping up with technology.
