Odd Yosemite Glitches

Hi,
Ever since updating my Late 09 iMac to 10.10 I've noticed a few annoying issues. Though small are causing me a headache.
The first one is that my iMacs network name keeps changing by the day. It was 'iMac' now its 'iMac (2)' to the be followed with an ever increasing number. Every time I rename it it just renames its self again a few days after. Its causing a few issues on my network as well.
The second its that I'm using my flagged iPhone library as my screen saver, however 10.10 forgets this after a few hours and sets it to a the default nature images. I have reset my screensaver countless times today and it just forgets it after a few hours.
The third and most annoying is that since updating to 10.10 my recovery partition has remained 10.9. Which means I cannot recover my computer from that drive. How do you update the recovery drive?
Any help on any of these issue would be great.

Since the monitor duplicates the MBP display, the odds are that your MBP has a GPU problem. An Apple store genius bar appointment is your best option. The evaluation will be free.

OS X Yosemite Glitches in PS. HELP!

After my recent upgrade to OS X Yosemite, I'm experiencing frequent and consistent glitches in PS. 1. The healing brush is painfully slow. 2. I can no longer toggle between foreground and background colors using the "X" key. I've tried resetting my tools to no avail. These issues are most definitely related to the upgrade as they presented immediately afterward and were not present before. This having a very negative effect on my workflow. Any suggestions?

Thank you Chris. CS 6 (Master Collection) 13.0.6 x 64. Haven't had any other issues with OS X Yosemite. I like all the other improvements that have come with it and would really hate to downgrade. Hoping it's a PS compatibility issue with Adobe that will be resolved soon.
More specifically on the above problems:
Healing brush - delays after each stroke. Brush remains visible (as a black mark) without revealing the result until I move to a new area/stroke. Prior to OS X, updates were immediately visible, without delay, after stroking the healing brush.
Foreground/Background Toggle using keyboard shortcut of "X" - I typically use this when painting on a layer mask. Worked flawlessly prior to OS X. Now, I have to manually toggle foreground/background or click on different tool and then back to the brush again, before "X" will act as a shortcut to toggle foreground/background.

Odd coverflow glitch and music playing issues

I'm having an odd problem with the coverflow on my ipod where some album covers appear as a pixelated mess. Also i have an issue where during the song (or at the beginning) it will go quiet for about 20 seconds or more and then continue playing effectively skipping 20 seconds of the song or in some cases the song will be not play at all. I have a 4th gen ipod touch running iOS 4.2.1, i recently had some trouble performing a restore (itunes error 37 =s) and it took near 5 attempts to get my ipod restored.

This was not an issue with any iPod in the past, but I usually list my albums in more a category way than the actual album name.
With over 3000 songs, many one song from an actual album, I'd have so many albums it does not make a lot of sense (to me) to organize one's collection that way.
So I listed my albums as: Rock, Folk, Jazz, World Music, Classical, etc., etc. That helped (me) organize the large collection better. So maybe Coverflow in the iPod Touch 2G is reading all these categories only once. I don't know why - as I said previous iPods I've owned (Incl. the Classic) showed each artist and "album" in Coverflow.
As I say, I saw no point of listing by actual album names as much of my collection is not by an actual album, by a song or two from each album.
However, my way of organizing helped me. If I just wanted to hear Rock (and not Classical, Jazz, etc.), I would just click to play my Rock album.
Under Genre, I would break it down further. For example, under my World Music 'album," I would list songs by country: Mali, Italy, Cape Verde, etc., etc.
At any rate, I wonder if this is the glitch under iPod Touch 2G - it only reads my album categories once and just lists the first song only under each.

Freezing on start-up, odd display glitches and streaking: what's going on!?

Hello all,
Recently the condition of my MacPro's performance has steadily declined and I have no idea what is going on. Upon cold start, the macpro freezes up when the desktop hasn't even properly loaded. Frequently, after having a normal start-up, I see odd graphical stretching and shearing of the display, as if someone were stretching a part of the display like rubber.
There will also occasionally be odd horizontal streaks (very thin, about a pixel or two wide) running across the screen.
To add to that, some video has not loaded properly in Safari and has caused frequent application freezes.
Can anyone pinpoint what is going on with my investment? Is it a graphics card issue, an issue with the HD, an issue of corrupt files/viruses, start-up items, or even dust?
It seems to be getting worse and its become really annoying.
I'm not even sure if turning it on is doing it any good anymore.
Any help on this is greatly appreciated!

Thanks, sorry I didn't post the specs but I was in a rush. I pulled the side off the tower tonight and I have the ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB card in my Mac Pro. It had been running fine since 2007.
I noticed it had some dust in it so I took everything apart on the tower and cleaned the whole thing. After I put it back together, I do not get the black streaking now. I still get some very small colored specs, but no freezing up of the system either.
If that card is prone to failure or dust issues = bad performance. Is there an option someone can suggest for the older dual core mac pro's?

OS X yosemite glitches NEED HELP

Once I've up graded to OS X Yosemite Ive noticed multiple problems:
I can only start my computer in SAFE MODE (computer does not work normally)
When the loading screen comes up it FREEZES (everything freezes)
when logging in (freezes)
after typing my password the loading bar doesnt even load all the way and it freezes
when on safe mode half my screen is blinking
also no sound
I've restarted my computer countless times, same thing over and over I cannot use my computer. anyone know what I should do? this is tiring
not sure if im the only one with this problem but hope someone can help

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Strange Yosemite Glitches

Hi,
Ever since updating my Late 09 iMac to 10.10 I've noticed a few annoying issues. Though small are causing me a headache.
The first one is that my iMacs network name keeps changing by the day. It was 'iMac' now its 'iMac (2)' to the be followed with an ever increasing number. Every time I rename it it just renames its self again a few days after. Its causing a few issues on my network as well.
The second its that I'm using my flagged iPhone library as my screen saver, however 10.10 forgets this after a few hours and sets it to a the default nature images. I have reset my screensaver countless times today and it just forgets it after a few hours.
The third and most annoying is that since updating to 10.10 my recovery partition has remained 10.9. Which means I cannot recover my computer from that drive. How do you update the recovery drive?
Any help on any of these issue would be great.

Odd download glitch on iPad mini 3

Hi. I have been having this weird problem with my iPad. When I download an app it will not start downloading unless I go into another app for awhile. It never shows that circle that has the progress of it downloading. My wifi works perfectly. How can I fix this?

That is really weird.
If it has NEVER been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again. Also, read this.

Odd OneKey Glitch - any one have this happen?

Upon attempting to Create a Backup after reconfiguring my system One Key indicated that My backup image would be too large at default path (even with max compression) -- I found this kinda weird (given that all I'd done was adjust some settings.)
So next I attempted to back up to DVD's, OneKey reported that there was no space left on the disk (a blank Verbatim Data Life Plus), thought perhaps bad disk, tried another disk, same error!?!
Next went desktop to see what was going on with the dvd -- this time changed factory set default of writing RW disk to R disk (don't recall the language)
et VOILA! ... back in OneKey it suddenly saw my dvd's available space AND, even weirder, realized there was enough space on D drive for backup.
Go Figure......!! could the DVD formatting options affect things? was this just a coincidence ... maybe some other background process is at issue?
Not sure what the moral is, just curious if anyone's experienced similar and figured out solution.

Odd iTunes glitch -- always plays the same song, after the song I selected...

After one song plays on iTunes, it always next plays one particular song -- not the next song on the list, but a specific track, every time. I'd like iTunes to simply play the next track down. How can I fix this?... thanks very much --

Do you have the the Repeat feature turned one? It is the arrowed racetrack on the left side of the Now Playing Screen right below the scrubber bar. Tap it until it is white for no repeat.
Next:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

Odd Graphics Glitch

When I wake my mid 2010 (latest) 15" Macbook Pro (i7) There occasionally appear random green dots on the background. These are sometimes vaguely arranged in a grid, sometimes one or two, sometimes 10 or more. These are on the image and are software. If you put a pointer or window over them, they disappear. If you use the "digital color meter" they are there, and show up on the magnifier, so they are not a hardware problem with the panel.
If I sleep the computer, then wake, the dots or gone, or there might be a few different random ones.
Could it be a video card problem? I've got applecare, and the computer otherwise works fine, but I would like at some point to solve this..
anyone any ideas?

I'm having the exact same issue on my 2.6GHz MBP, except that it's happening in Mail, as well, and not just due to html rendering. This only happened after the 10.5.2 and the graphics update. I just recently had to shut down my system after the screen went black. I was getting artifacts all over the screen, including the desktop and browser window, with a multi-colored line that went horizontally across the display consisting of one row of pixels and located about an inch and a half below the top of the display. I have only one piece of "skankware" installed and that's Inquisitor for Safari. I'm trying another user today, and hopefully get more info. Has anyone out there tried reinstalling the OS and it continues? If so, this may be an issue with the firmware update.

Odd screen glitch

I have noticed that every once in a while when I pull my phone out of my pocket I see the main Slide screen, but it appears without the backlight. I can fix it with just locking sleeping it and reopening it again. Its just weird. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yosemite is messing with my new Retina Macbook Pro's sound output, help.

I just got my new Retina Macbook Pro 2 months ago and have been noticing some audio output issues. When I try to connect an external third-party audio device to run my KRK monitors my computer does not recognize the device and will not switch the audio output. After trying to set it manually my macbook won't even revert to the internal speakers for output and then I have to reboot my pro in order to get audio output again. This will happen randomly throughout the day after my computer has been in sleep as well, and sometimes the volume buttons get greyed out as well. Please help me with this issue as this is a new computer and it is becoming a nuisance. Even when connecting through HDMI, my audio output does not function and no sound will come out of the TV. I realize that this is probably a Yosemite glitch, but I just need to know if there is any fixes for this issue. Thanks so much for your time,

Visual glitches in exported QuickTime movie (but not in FCP); any ideas?

We shot a short film with a Sony camera (standard def), but it apparently isn't compatible w/ FC Studio software. So we captured and did a rough-cut on my friend's PC rig (Adobe Premiere Pro), burned raw files of our rough cut on to dvd's, then transferred from those discs to my rig. The codec of this footage worked fine in FCP, but wasn't supported by Color. So I used Compressor to convert all referenced files to Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), as it seemed the best conversion I tried (no loss of film quality) and obviously now is supported by Color.
However, the final rendered QuickTime movie (exported from FCP) had some odd visual glitches that occur right before the end of a clip (perhaps 10-15 frames before the end): it's like the brightness or gamma level suddenly drops a noticeable amount right at the end of a clip (again, ~10-15 frames). I couldn't say for sure if it's the last 10-15 frames that are appropriate and the REST of the clip is what's out of whack.
Initially, I thought it was a problem with Color (as these were Color-corrected sequences I was exporting). But I just tried it with a non-color corrected sequence, and the errors are still there.
Any ideas what's going on? Any suggestions/solutions? Did I pick an inappropriate conversion on Compressor?

I think this may be an AVI conversion glitch.
Well I am guessing that from Premiere Pro they came out as AVI? If that is the case well the best thing to do would be to open it with Quicktime Pro and export it as DV/DVCPRO NTSC .MOV
From there you should be able to bring it into FCP without a hitch and then put color down,
But in order to save time I would try first exporting just that last little segment again throwing it into Compressor and see if it comes out okay. It may be that on capture there was some dropped frames on the end so double check that last little bit.

How do I get Adobe Acorbat to open a .pdf file from a sharepoint library without having to checkout the file

I have a customer that is using Adobe Acrobat pro version 10.1. When they try and open a .pdf file from a SharePoint site, the user is prompted to check out and open the file or open the file. Is there a way to get Adobe Acrobat to open the .pdf file without prompting to check out or open?

This is mostly a lion thing, rather than a PSE thing. To disable applications opening where they left off last time for all the programs on your computer, go to system preferences>general and untick this box:
You can also do on a per-program basis, but it's more complicated and the best thing to do is to search around for directions on the web and see which way is least uncomfortable for you.
There's an odd little glitch in PSE that it opens the last image you had open, even if you closed it before quitting last time. Adobe says this is correct behavior, but of course it isn't.

How do I get PSE 8 to open just one file, not previous ones?

I just reinstalled PSE 8 (which I prefer to PSE 10) on my new iMac (using Lion 10.4.7; the previous iMac used Leopard 10.5.8) and when I click on a file in a folder or from Bridge to open it in PSE 8, the previous files I worked on also open. I can easily get to prevously worked on files through the drop-down menu, and it's annoying to have to close them when I don't want them opening when I start PSE 8. Any ideas, please? I've looked at Excel Preferences and System Preferences, to no avail.
