ODF - Open Document Format libraries for Java?

Are there any existing libraries for creating .odf documents from within Java?

I've tried with JAXB-2.1 to parse the Relax-NG ODF schemas with no luck. There are errors with <mixed> tags and then there are some definitions that can't be turned into java classes. It's too bad, really, it all should work.
There is a library in progress at http://odftoolkit.openoffice.org/. It works for simple stuff, but not even tables are implemented yet.

  • ODF (Open Document Format)

    I am looking at the iWork suite but was wondering if it has ODF Support or not. This would be a deal maker/breaker for me in this office. We use ODF extensively here.

    "Given how many programs read and write .doc formats, MS Office format isn't really a lock-in. "
    Please!
    Any non-microsoft implementations of the .doc format are accomplished either through licensing the spec from Microsoft or by reverse-engineering. So the "best" (least buggy) implementations are either made by Microsoft or licensed by them. It's also not entirely clear to me that reverse-engineering the standard is 100% legal.
    There is no readily apparent logic behind Apple's decision not to implement ODF. The specifications are open and the standard is certified. Microsoft's so-called "Open" office XML is still not certified and is owned wholesale by one company. So any OOXML-compatible software can be broken by changes made unilaterally by Microsoft at any time.
    Lastly, aren't there at least two open source projects on Sourceforge that convert OOXML to ODF and back again? It seems that any software developer worth its salt should be able to support ODF quickly and easily; assuming, of course, that they wanted to.

  • Captivate 3 support for Open Document format?

    Hi,
    Does anyone know about support for Open Document Format in Captivate 3? (OpenOffice presentations)
    Is it possible to save OpenOffice presentation in open document format or does it have to be saved as microsoft power point file?
    What about Captivate 4? Any improvement?

    On the OpenOffice.org site, look under projects, and there's an Open Document Toolkit for Java. I've no idea of its status though.

  • Why is there no eprint support for open document formats, such as those produced by openoffice

    Why doesn't the eprint service support open document formats? This should be a minimal requirement!

    Sorry, as important as this issue is to all of us who use Firefox, this is a Firefox support forum - not an appropriate place to start a discussion like this.
    I'm locking this thread for two other reasons though. <br />

  • Open Document Format - No library for Java???

    Hi guys,
    I'm looking for a library that let's me access Open Document Files, like *.ods.
    There SHOULD BE something like that...
    Does anybody of you know anything?
    Greetz
    Sascha

    On the OpenOffice.org site, look under projects, and there's an Open Document Toolkit for Java. I've no idea of its status though.

  • Open document format

    I'm not sure if this is the appropriate category to place this question, but is there a way we can de-couple the open document plugin for abiword from the gnome libraries? It seems vastly inappropriate to require gnome for this plugin, considering the efforts to make it a open standard. Which plugins in the abiword-plugins package actually require gnome anyway?

    I would suggest you dig around in the abiword source and see if you can compile it without gnome dependancies. You should be able to tell quickly if what you are asking is possible.

  • Why no native open document format?

    I'm currently working on a draft for a native document format
    like ODF (OpenDocument), but beeing more "professional" while
    supporting color management, intermedia representations, product
    definition and job networking with easy file exchange.
    All needs to this document format are based on solving
    current problems with proprietary formats, dump applications and
    mostly conversions.
    As I can see the workflow would be: converting the
    application document format (e.g. InDesign) to PDF and then it will
    be converted to Mars to be processed with XML tools to be converted
    to PDF... this will multiplicate all problems that currently exists
    in document processing!
    So I'm wondering why Adobe released a document format that is
    made to be converted and not a document format that is supported
    natively without conversion?

    But nobody deals with this intention!?
    The intention that Adobe makes public is: There is PDF, there
    will be PDF and will will be PDF and by the way we have there a
    little Mars format where can use your XML tools to modify the
    document easily, but pleeease convert this back to PDF!
    Why Adobe doesn't force the native support? This would be the
    (r)evolution, but not one more destination to convert to and to
    have problem with.

  • Accessing knowledge management documents using webdynpro for java

    Dear all,
    iam having some documnets in KNLOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT documents folder in portal using webdynpro for java clicking on a link means perner(employee no) i should get that perpicular employee number documents.
    examples documents are stored like this in knowledege management folder 20016319.pdf  ,  20016397.pdf  ,  20016398.
    how to access those employee using webdynpro for java for perticular employee number if i want 20016319
    Send me the code for above requirement and where i have to wrirte that code exactly
    Regards

    Dear Kishore,
    To get the Employee ID you have to create a Adaptive RFC Model (call BAPI) which will return you the employee pernr, for this
    1. Create a model using  : BAPI_EMPLOYEE_GETDATA
    2. Get User ID using the code
    public java.lang.String getUserID( )
        //@@begin getUserID()
         String userID = new String();
              try
                    // getting Logged in userid
                   IWDClientUser myUser = WDClientUser.getCurrentUser();
                   userID = myUser.toString().substring(19).trim();
                   StringTokenizer filterdUID = new StringTokenizer(userID,")");
                   userID = filterdUID.nextToken();
              catch (WDUMException e)
                   e.printStackTrace();
                   return userID;
        //@@end
    3. Execute the BAPI
    public java.lang.String getEmployeeID( java.lang.String userID )
        //@@begin getEmployeeID()
         String employeeID = new String();
              Bapi_Employee_Getdata_Input employeeData = new Bapi_Employee_Getdata_Input();
              Bapi_Employee_Getdata_Output outData = new Bapi_Employee_Getdata_Output();
              Bapip0105B comm = new Bapip0105B();
              com.sap.aii.proxy.framework.core.AbstractList list = new Bapip0105B.Bapip0105B_List();
              list.add(comm);
              employeeData.setUserid(userID);
              Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance(Locale.UK);
              Date date = new Date(cal.getTimeInMillis());
              employeeData.setDate(date);
              employeeData.setAuthority_Check("");
              employeeData.setCommunication(list);
              outData.addCommunication(comm);
              wdContext.nodeBapi_Employee_Getdata_Input().bind(employeeData);
              wdContext.nodeOutput_BAPI().bind(outData);
            try
                   wdContext.nodeBapi_Employee_Getdata_Input().currentBapi_Employee_Getdata_InputElement().modelObject().execute();
                   wdContext.nodeOutput_BAPI().invalidate();
            catch (WDDynamicRFCExecuteException e) {printMsg("Failed to Obtain Employee Data");
                 e.printStackTrace();
            employeeID = wdContext.nodeBapi_Employee_Getdata_Input().nodeOutput_BAPI().nodeOrg_Assignment().currentOrg_AssignmentElement().getPerno();
            return employeeID;
        //@@end
    Hope it Helps!!

  • Is there any parallel programming libraries for java?

    Greetings
    I am taking a course about parallel processing and we are using the C language with the MPI library.
    so, I was wondering if there is any java libraries for parallel programming

    Did you try google?
    Many, many hits include:

  • Can I print out the document formatting information for review

    Is there a way to print out, for example, all the paragraph format with their formatting details? I'd like the same for character formats, conditional text etc.?
    I'm a long time FrameMaker use and have built numerous templates over the years. The one thing I always found missing was the ability to printout a list of the various formats so that you can review them (much more easily one at a time on screen) to make sure they all have the correct settings. MS Word, back in the DOS days, had this capability and it was fast and efficient way of double checking all the formatting.
    Does this functionality exist in FrameMaker? Or are there any utilities out there that would do this?
    Thanks,
    Inge

    The Format List utility from Squidds does this really well. It creates
    tables that contain the various formats and their settings. It's really
    easy to look down a column and see which paragraph or character formats
    use, for example, a particular font or space above setting. Format List
    is one of the Finalyser utilities.
    The Squidds website is notoriously user unfriendly, but here is a link
    for the price lists page. If you can find the right list for your
    FrameMaker version, it will give you prices for the complete Finalyser
    or Toolbox utility set, and prices for the individual utilities. I
    believe Format List is $49 USD.
    http://www.squidds.de/en/products/price-lists-order-form.html#c321
    It seems like someone else makes a utility that creates a separate
    one-column table for each format. I can't seem to find that one. Perhaps
    someone else remembers what it is. Separate tables are not nearly as
    easy to use for comparison, though.

  • DDE Poke to WinWord 2010 with open Document (Format Docx)

    We have a DDE Client in a big old software and use Winword 2010 as DDE Server. Execute and request commands works as expected. There is only trouble with sending data via poke and that only if the Word document has the new file format (docx or docm).
    Sometimes Word crash, sometimes nothing is happen and sometime not displayable chars appear. It depends on what was sent. If the document format changed to 2003 everything is fine. It's seems Word changes its interpretation of the ASCII text which was send
    via DDE poke.
    Do we have a chance to use DDE with Winword 2010 and the new document format without rewrite the whole software?

    Hi,
    As far as I know, Dynamic data exchange (DDE) is an older technology that is not secure. We may use a more secure alternative to DDE in Word 2010, such as object linking and embedding (OLE). Please refer to the link about the tasks
    that Word performs with DDE and the methods used to control each task in Visual Basic.

  • Unable to open documents in pages for iPad

    I use iWork for work on a regular basis. All my documents are organized in folders. Some of my documents show inside their respective folders but I'm unable to open them. For example in one folder I have 12 documents raging from January thru December and I can see all of them, but when I click on December to open it doesn't do anything. Clicking on edit doesnt let me highlight it either. I can't delete it or open it. When logging in to iCloud the documents dont even show on there. Fortunetly I can recreate the damaged documents but I can't get rid of them. Anyone having the same issue who has successfully deleted these? Thanks

    Hi Ankit,
    Thank you for your advice, but Im still having problems.
    Back to the OP.  To avoid the threads getting confused, I suggest the other user starts a new one?
    I have tried ensuring that PDFs are automatically opened by Adobe.  I used the path you suggested.  However, I'm still having the same problem.
    When I went to do this, Adobe was listed in the "recommended" list of products with which to open PDF files.  However, I ignored this and followed your guidance.  Once I had done, nothing happened (i.e. Adobe icon was not added to the 'Other products' list below the 'Recommended').
    To me, this speaks of either a bad installation or bad association in which something is causing Adobe not to recognise itself.
    What else can you advise?
    Is there, for instance, a way to have a clean removal of Adobe, and then reinstall?  I don't even know if this will work.
