ODI Studio slow

Hi,
I installed ODI Studio 11.1.1 (Generic) [I am using Windows7, 4GB RAM, but tried different compatibility modes].
I changed odi.conf to point to 32 bit java (C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_31).
I created master repository and work repository, smoothly.
I didn't install Web Logic Server, and "ODI server", as I need only simple local deployment for eduction.
I started to play with ODI Studio, but working in Designer is VERY SLOW. Windows and tabs are responding with huge delay.
I checked tables in master repository, none is massive (as it is fresh start) to justify such a poor interaction.
I set AddVMOption -XX:MaxPermSize=512M in odi.conf, thinking it is memory related, but task manager is not showing high memory consumption or processors.
Did anyone had similar problem ?

I am facing the same issue.
I login to ODI via Citrix Server. My ODI is installed on Citrix machine and my master repository and my work repository at a database which is not installed on the citrix machine.
When i see the solution that is provided earlier in this thread to have the work repository setup locally - does this mean that the work repository needs to be setup on a database on citrix where my ODI is installed?
Please validate and provide further inputs as to what are the other ways to resolve this issue.

Yes i did, the problem is when a user is created and if i logged in using that user ODI studio is very slow, but if i logged in using supervisor it works absolutely fine.

I have also the ODI 12C installed on Windows 7 OS. Might be you are facing the issue because of your configuration of PC.
I have 4GB RAM here, please check the configuration to find the reason behind the slow performance of ODI.

Problem getting MySQL driver loaded in ODI Studio (ODI 11g)

I am trying to create a new data server in the physical architecture under the MySQL technology. Since there is no MySQL JDBC driver included as there was in ODI 10g, I looked into the documentation to find a similar drivers directory that I had used in ODI 10g for loading other JDBC drivers. I would like to be able to select the MySQL Connector/J driver from the drop-down list of usable drivers in the Driver dialog window. I found this link, that explains how to install drivers:

I followed the documents instructions, added the file "mysql-connector-java-5.1.13-bin.jar" to my directory "C:\Documents and Settings\<my username>\Application Data\odi\oracledi\userlib" and restarted ODI Studio. I still cannot get the app to recognize the new driver to use, am I missing a step or is there a known issue with this method? More importantly has anyone been able to get this to register with the Driver dialog box successfully?
With ODI Studio open, I attempted to delete the mysql jar file from my userlib directory and there was an error that said the file was in use... so I assume that ODI Studio is using the file but not registering it within the Driver selection dialog.

I think we found our own answer... apparently the ODI Studio interface does not dynamically load that drop-down list from registered drivers in the classpath. We can still use the driver name by manually typing it into the "JDBC Driver:" text box.

Installing ODI Studio and ODI Stand-alone on 64 bit Windows 7

Can anybody tell me which ODI downloads I need in order to install ODI Studio and ODI Stand-alone on my 64-bit Windows 7 machine?
I've already created the DB repository with RCU, but I'm having trouble with the ODI installation: I just spent an hour and a half downloading 2.5GB of installers that turned out to be wrong - the SETUP.EXE complained that it was a 32 bit installer and wouldn't work on 64 bit Windows - so I now need to find a 64-bit installer instead (another 2.5GB presumably...). Not sure which of the multiple download options to choose and I don't want to spend all day waiting for the wrong files to download again.
Looking through OTN and the (typically confusing) Oracle installation docs, there's a load of stuff about using 32-bit JREs on 64-bit Windows to get around 64/32-bit Java problems later on, or lots of stuff about all the Fusion requirements etc. But I don't want the JEE stuff (I already have about 4 different WebLogic installations because every time I install any Oracle "Fusion" stuff it slaps another WebLogic in there as well), and I'm miles away from getting any Java runtime problems with ODI when I can't even figure out the right installer to use for 64 bit Windows.
Maybe it's just me: every time I try to install any of Oracle's server products (apart from the RDBMS itself), I end up wading through endless lists of cross-linked installation pre-requisites and searching OTN forums for the single secret combination of installer/JDK/JRE/operating system/database character-set/RDBMS version and desperate prayers to minor deities that will permit the installation to go ahead...
So any help will be gratefully received!

The pre-requsites for installing ODI is
1) supportable RDBMS 2) JDK (preferably version less than 7) you can search for ODI support matrix to get the exact supportable versions.
for downloading them goto https://edelivery.oracle.com/ (you can use the same oracle acct that you have for this discussion forum)
ODI installations are of two types:
1) Standalone installation (check boxes : ODI Studio, SDK, Standalone Agent while installation) (you can refer to any of the ODI blogs which will have a step by step process of installing ODI)
2) Java EE installation (integration with Oracle Web-logic server/[IBM websphere as well if ODI 11.1.17]) this requires a webserver to be installed before installing ODI.

How to install MySQL driver for ODI Studio?

First I downloaded MySQL Java connector from http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/j/. Then copy the jar file to C:\Users\MyName\AppData\Roaming\odi\oracledi\userlib. But ODI Studio cannot show this JDBC driver, when I created a new Data Server.
Is there any additional step need to do?

Deployment procedure is same irrespective of operating system.
On AIX, you have to copy the file com.sap.aii.adapter.lib.sda to your desktop and modify using winrar as explained in the below article and copy the modified file back to the respective path on AIX server.

ODI Studio on Windows 7 64bit or 32bit mode?

Anyone know anything about running ODI studio on Windows 7 64bit or 32bit mode? Are there certification for this OS in either mode? What are the certification plans?

ODI studio installation Location

Hi, Can we install ODI studio at client's machine or we can only install it where we have install ODI.

ODI can be installed at any place irrespective of client machine or server machine. Similarly the repositories that is being used for ODI can also be housed at any machine irrespective of geographical location.
The only thing matter is the network bandwidth and its speed.
Note: See the certification matrix to know supported OS, Databases, JDK and other softwares.

Default/Initial ODI Studio Windows Layout

How do I restore the Default/Initial ODI Studio Windows Layout.

I tried to restore .../AppData/Roaming/odi/.../Editing.Layout to its original values with no effect.
My problem is: I wanted to configure my screens as I had them in Sunopsis. After floating the Operator screen the Operator screen takes up the entire window. A session screen will be hidden behind the Operator screen and can only be seen by minimizing the Operator screen (it doesn't tile with the Operator screen). After viewing the session screen I must close everything and re-institute the Operator screen from the Main Menu.
The Developer screen behaves normally after float with subscreens tiliing normally.
If I could get back the the default layout, I could live with that.

You mean, he can also view data dictionary views?
It depends which privilege you wanted to give.
For reading data from another schema, you can always give SELECT ANY TABLE/VIEW privilege to the user.

ODI really slow when updating attribute assocations in Hyperion Planning

I have a base dimension with 25,000+ level 0 members. I have two attribute dimensions that are associated for this dimension. When I run ODI to build the associations, it runs really long. Is there way to improve ODI performance?

Are you definitely sure it is not on the planning side the issue lies, I would create a file and then use the outline loader to compare load times to see where the issue is first.

ODI 11g 1.1.1.7: Studio doesn't start since install of Java 7

Hi,
as many other users I happened an uncomfortable surprise after having naively installed Java 7 on my Win 7 notebook. The Java 6 install was removed and ODI Studio didn't start anymore.
I found out that Java 7 is not supported with ODI 11g and
re-installed Java 6 (jdk1.6.0_45)
set the JAVA_HOME variable to this JDK directory
tried to start on the command line "odi.exe -jreLoc C:\Prog\Java\jdk1.6.0_45"
I de-installed and re-installed ODI 1.1.1.7 completely
but nothing helped. When pressing the icon or starting from the command line: no event, no error message, anything.
I have no idea how to debug this. With most other Oracle products the appropriate JVM cames along with the product installation. But ODI depends from the external Java install.
How to proceed now? As far as I know it's allowed that both Java versions coexist on one machine. But what's missing to point ODI to the 6 env?
Any idea appreciated!!

OWB descign client 11.2.03 extremely slow

Hi all,
I got accustomed to OWB's memory problems in the interface since 10 years, it has never been fixed properly. The screen is frozen for minutes and nobody knows why. But since 10gR2 thinks improved and with 11gR2 you can work reasonably. But today I installed 11.2.03 patch and it's slower then ever. What can I do? I don't like ODI very much and prefer using OWB but you can see in the ODI studio a good example how a Java client interface can work as lightweight as we know it from Windows applications.
Is there a known problem with the actual OWB?

Hi,
the solution was surprisingly: I dropped the newly created database (UTF8) and created a new one with the WE8MSWIN1252 character set. And now it works perfectly!
I didn't know that UTF8 is just for the "Big Boys". I tried it since my customers insist on UTF8. But they have some Unix with 64 Bit. That's too much for my poor Win7.
