ODS and SID generation

Ive learnt that, in an ODS, when the BEx Reporting is flagged, SIDs are created for the characteristics.
Are the SIDs always created or only for the case when the Masterdata for the characteristic are not available?
Please clarify.

ODS Bex Reporting Off and SID Question??

We were looking at the Specific question below:----
We have switched off the BEx reporting functionality on an ODS and are using an Infoset to query against the ODS, so there is only 1 table in this Infoset.
Question:----
Does the Query written on this Infoset need to go through a SID table fo eg: It spends a lot of time in Serial Nbr SID table (/BIC/SZSERNR) which is an Infobject used in the ODS.
I tried a few things as explained below:----
I actually created a few New Infobjects based on the Infobjects from the Original ODS. We created a new ODS similar to the original ODS by replacing some of the Old Infobjects with the New Infobjects. I switched Off the Bex Reporting option for this ODS. It did not inserts any SIDs while loading the Data into this New ODS...However while executing the Query on an Infoset built on this New ODS, it updated the SID table for the New Infobjects.
I was wondering when the option of Switching Off BEx Reporting is to facilitate faster Loading of Data, why does the query need to insert the SIDs during the Query execution as that increases the Response time on the Query. These New Infobjects are not used in any Infocubes so is there a necessity to maintain the SIDs as we are trying to Query on an Infoset.
Please provide your valuable opinions..

I'm not sure, but this could be a track.
The ODS or Infoset are checked to update the BW Statistics? Maybe a update is taken if BW Statistics are tracking the query execution on these dataproviders.

Sid generation

Hi,
I come cross invalid characterisitc error while activating ODS. I got several replies that we have to change the data in PSA / allow that invalid char in RSKC. I would like to know what exactly happening while activating ODS and how SID's will be generated.
In the current DSO, I have material and 0Vendor is an attribute for 0Materail. Obvisouly I cannot modify 0Vendor in PSA as it was defiend as attribute for 0materail. As per details tab it is saying datapacket 117 failed with "invalid char' for 0Vendor. But how how PSA will get data for master data.
And even if 0Vendor has invalid char, it should throw an error while loading data for 0material.
Pls clarify all the above questions.

1) For 0material i have loaded master data it does not meant that SID' already generated as a part of Master data loading. And I am using this master data in Curreny DSO, then why Shuoul I generate SID while ODS activation.
With the Generation of SID Values indicator, you specify whether SIDs are created for the new characteristic values in the DataStore object when the data is activated.
2) Here I am referrring PSA for DSO not for master data. But as per the threads I have to change these records in PSA (DSO). However this PSA does not have any Master data. And when should I use "SID generation on ODS activation" setting.
If you are reporting on a ODS, you should use this setting. PSA contains all the data from the source system. PSA contains master data.
When data is uploaded further, system allocates the respective SID to the characteristics.
3) As per your answer Invalid char can be loaded upto PSA (Master data) but while activating only it will through error.

Delay between end of load to ODS and activation

When I look in the monitor for the update of our ODS, there is a delay of about 20 minutes between the end of loading the last data package to the ODS and the start of the Activation. Can anyone give me any ideas on the cause of this delay or any suggestions on how I could try to find the reason for this delay?

You can make the following settings:
Parameters for activation:
Minimum number of data records: Here you can specify the minimum number of data records per data package when activating data in the DataStore object. The default value of 10000 is used when no package size is set or when the package size that is set is smaller than 10000.
Wait time in seconds: Here you can specify the maximum wait time in seconds when activating data in the DataStore object. This is the time that the main process (batch process) waits for the itemized dialog process before it classifies it as having errors.
Parameters for SID generation:
The minimum number of data records per data package when generating the SID in the DataStore object.
The maximum wait time in seconds when generating the SID in the DataStore object.

SID Generation Failed : How to identify which record in PSA

Hello guys,
I have a DSO where the SID Generation has failed for about 4 records due to lower case letters. I would want to fix that in PSA.
How do I identify which record/package in PSA to change it. I have about 11,50,000 records. The DSO activation log gives you the error but doesnot give any information on which record or the key of the record.
Is there a way to identify the packet id and the record no. in PSA which has this problem so I can fix it. Its literally impossible to find out because each package in my PSA has about 40 - 50 thousand records.
Any help would be rewarded.

Hi.......
Go to the display message of the DSO activation step..........Right click display message........there it will give you which master data...........which packets......
Also you can go to the IP monitor..........in the details tab.........there is one tab comes ODS activation........click on that...........there also you will be able to find the errorneous data packets.........

Proformance issue with 'sid generation on activation'

Hi Gurus,
In our BW(NW 2004) system we are using Cognos as reporting tool, due to process chain failure at DSO level we unchecked 'sid generation on activation' and chain running successfully after that.
unchecking will be a performance issue due to generating sid's at run time as per SAP.
My question is as i am using Cognos in place of BEX. what are the possiblities of effecting the performance and alll?
Please provide your valuable suggestions.

Hi Suresh,
Irrespective of what is the reporting front end you use, if you use this DSO for reporting it would generate the SID values at the runtime which will have huge impact on reporting performance. Just removing the SID generation option would temporarily fix the load issue, with quick activation of DSO but it will affect the most important area reporting performance.
Try to solve the issue with SID generation error while activating at the BW side which could be because of the special character issues and once you fix that your process chains would load fine with a far better performance while reporting on this DSO.

SID generation error

Hi All,
I am loading data for Sales Item for this i have enhanced the DataSource. Now while i am loading the data to DSO it is giving error while activating the DSO--SID generation error as it found some hex. values.
To overcome this i tried with TOUPPER formula for that field but still it is giving error. So i have removed unchecked the check box 'SID generation upon activation' as i am not going to use this DSO for reporting.
But i am transferring data to InfoCube where again it is giving the same error.
Kindly help me out to overcome this error.

Inconsistencies data between ODS and RSA3 in SAP system (delta problem??)

I have a problem in my SAP BW production system. There is inconsistencies data between ODS (using tcode LISTCUBE) and Datasource in SAP system (tcode RSA3).
I'm using Datasource: 0FI_GL_10 and ODS: 0FIGL_O10.
In SAP system (using RSA3):
GL Account: 1202012091
Comp Code : 5400
Bus Area: 5401
Fiscal Year :2008
Period: 07
Accum Balance : $0
Credit Total: $350
Debit Total: $350
Sales : $0
And in ODS (using ListCube):
GL Account: 1202012091
Comp Code : 5400
Bus Area: 5401
Fiscal Year :2008
Period: 07
0BALANCE : $350 (it should be $0,shouldn't it? )
0CREDIT: $0 (it should be $350,shouldn't it? )
0DEBIT: $350
0SALES: $350 (it should be $0,shouldn't it?)
I have tried these :
1. Check if there is a start routine / routine or not in transfer or update rules....and...i get nothing
2. Check the data using tcode FBL3N..but the data is ok
And then i tried to trace the process chain and find error on delta infopackage which pull these data

07.30.2008 : 231141 records --> error (ODS activation) --> request has deleted forever
07.31.2008 : 2848 records --> error (ODS activation) --> request has deleted forever
08.01.2008 : 135679 records --> error (ODS activation) --> request has deleted forever
08.02.2008 : 135679 records --> successfull repeat delta action
From 30 July until 1 August there is an error on delta infopackage because
fail to activate ODS (No SID found for value 'RIM' of characteristic 0UNIT). On 2 August someone delete the red requests and repeat the delta and success. Is there any possibilities that this problem arise because of this? If this the cause, how to bring back 2848 and 231141 records which has deleted?

I have solved my problem. I executed my infopackage again (selection condition using GL Account which have wrong amount) with update mode 'Full update' and choose Scheduler > Repair Full Request and tick the checkbox.Thank you.

Mismatch between Master data table /BIC/P and SID table /BIC/S

Hello All,
in our master data table we have logsys in key
after a system copy we had a problem with logsys name, when we have copied our bw prod system in test system we find prod logsys like value, the BDLS doesn't change all values for all structures and some master data table still have prod logsys instead of test logsys but some records have test logsys values
for example:
our production logsys is: BIP300 and our test logsys is BIT300
in our master data test table we find had some records logsys value like BIP300 and others with BIT300
all our ODS and CUBE have the right logsys value in test "BIT300"
we have developed an ABAP report to execute on selected tables to change logsys from BIP300 to BIT300
we execute the report on only P master data table like /BIC/PZCOOR and it's work fine and has changed all the records values
from BIP300 to BIT300 and this program has eliminated all duplicate records
the problem is when on our master data try to view data we find that bw return data from SID table /BIC/SZCOOR
in fact if we go to control data on /BIC/SZCOOR table we find that there still are records with logsys BIP300 and BIT300
and the same if we execute our query on ZCOOR we have values with BIP300 and BIT300
how should we fix this problem?
if we execute our ABAP report on /BIC/SZCOOR to change logsysname we can fix that or we could have problem?
please can give me some useful help

Hi ,
Follow the sequence of deletion .
1.Delete data from cube YMM_*
2.Delete data from 0pur_c*
3.Delete data from 0material .
4.Delete data from info_rec .
Best option would be do selective deletion for these four materials and run a repair request then after to update into data target.

Total number of records loaded into ODS and in case of Infocube

i loaded some datarecords from Oracle SS in ODS and Infocube.
My SOurceSytem guy given some datarecords by his selection at Oracle source system side.
how can i see that 'how many data records are loaded into ODS and Infocube'.
i can check in monitor , but that not correct(becz i loaded second , third time by giving the ignore duplicate records). So i think in monitor , i wont get the correct number of datarecords loaded in case of ODS and Infocube.
So is there any transaction code or something to find number records loaded in case of ODS and Infocube .

I went into ODS manage and see the 'transferred' and 'added' data records .Both are same .
But when i total the added data records then it comes 147737.
But when i check in active table(BIC/A(odsname)00 then toal number of entries come 1,37,738
why it is coming like that difference.......
And in case of infocube , how can i find total number of records loaded into Infocube.(not in infocube).
Like any table for fact table and dimension tables.

DSO with flag "SIDs Generation upon Activation" deactivated

Situation 1:
I am using a standard DSO. The flag "SIDs Generation upon Activation" is not set. Note 1392715 states:
"... If you deactivate this flag, reporting is still possible since missing SIDS will be created during the query runtime from 7.0..."
Question 1:
What is about characterstic values with already existing SIDS? Are they selected at query runtime? Are SIDS created during query runtime for all characteristic values, even if the characteristic value has got a physical SID in its master table? Gets a query on this DSO faster, when pyhsical SID will exist in the respect master tables?
Situation 2:
I am using an infoobject with flag "attribute only" in a standard DSO. The flag "SIDs Generation upon Activation" is not set in this DSO. This DSO is connected to a virtual virtual provider based on DTP. The query Q1 on the virtual provider reports the infobject with the flag "attribute only". The query Q2 on the DSO doe not report the infoobject with the flag "attribute only".
Question 2:
What is faster? A query on a virtual provider or a query on a DSO with flag "SID Generation upon Activation" is not set.

1. There will be there at base tables. Query runtime it won't select sids.
i think no, it creates sid for the records which don't have sid.
along with sid, its depend on the selections/filters/data volume on dso.
Question 2:
Query will be faster on dso. because virtual provider pulls data during report excution and may take more time than reporting on dso.

New fields addition to BW 3.5 version ODS and Cube and transport to PRD.

We have a scenarion on 3.5 wherein there is a enhancement to ODS and Cube(few new fileds are added), this New ODS also feeds data to Cube. Since we do not had data on Quality system, we had no problem in adding fields to ODS and cube, but now we need transport these changes to Production, In production ODS and Cube has large data. we have few doubts.
1. Shall we need to delete data from ODS and Cube then Transport request to Production server.
2. Is it ok to move transport request without deleting data in ODS and Subsequent Cube in production system

what is your suggestion on this one. WE are in BW 3.5 only. No BI7.

you can directly transport that to production.
the image will over write with the existing one and for the new object add , a new table space will be created.
it will not affect the Old data
But in the Cube even if the data is there there is a concept called remodeling

Data not matching for a key figure in ODS and In CUBE.

There is one key figure ( Net Units) where in the data is not matching in ODS and in CUBE for only one particular fiscal week (200714)but for the rest of the weeks its matching.
The data is first loaded in to ODS and from there in to CUBE and the source is from flat file.
The cubes are not compressed .so I checked the DB aggregation in the field selection for output screen but still its not matching .( based on the infocube addition property some times if a file is loaded multiple times it adds up in the infocube so when the cubes are not compressed we manually select this option) .
What might be the possible cause for this ???

HI,
By any chance if you have loaded same the delta twice into the cube, then there might be the chance of the corrupt data. SO identify the lowest level of document where u can identify the difference.I mean if possible 0calday wise or document leve wise or sales org wise etc. and try to find out where is the difference. Then check in the change log of the oDS, whether the request has gone into cube twice. last option is selectively delete the data from the cube for the week and load a full repair from the ODS for that week.

Open Orders are negitive in ODS and Info cube

Hi,
Our ODS is getting data from sales order Item data and from ODS data is going to Info cube.
The problem is that: for few sales orders some open orders are deleting in R/3 but same records are reversing
the old records due to this in the ODS and info cube sales orders Quantity is negative but the orders are not negitive.
Could any one let me know how do we can ressolve it.

GL data ODS and Cube

Dear Friends,
Why we are loading 0FI_GL_4 data into first ODS and than Cube.
Both are daily delta uploads.
Is there any special reason?

From a business perspective you can change a GL document therefore you need the DSO to resolve the duplicates for an after image extractor
However for CCA - you cannot change the source documents therefore in CCA even though it is an after image extractor you do not need a DSO to resolve this
