ODS architecture

Hi,
I want some help on ODS architecture. Please tell me why change log and active table is used for. And why only active table is used for reporting and not change log table. Does the change log table in ODS and change log delta type in LO extraction has some relation?

Is Overwrite option available in BI7.0`

Hi Guys,
I need to merge two DSOs A&B in to third DSO C. I have same key fields in each of this DSO.When I create two transformations , Iam unable to see the consolidated data. In change log of DSO C , its showing both DSOs A & B Data one after other. Like if my DSO A has 200 records and B has 300 records C is showing 500 records. If the DSO A and DSO B has the same company code , Doc Nr and Fiscal Year it should match in C and should display it as one single record ...What to do for this in BI. I worked this same kind in BI 3.5 with update rules overwrite option. But here in 7.0 what to do can any one advice?

the over write should be available in KF - rule details. Not on the key fields, anyway key fields anyhow make a record unique (as per the ODS architecture) so the data fields would be anyway overwritten. The DSO just gives us the option to see if you want the KF to be summed or overwritten.
Just curious - do you have a any counter field(to count the occurences or whatever) in the design of ur ODS.
Like if my DSO A has 200 records and B has 300 records C is showing 500 records.
where are you checking these numbers - in manage menu or the table itself. Can you see if the numbers that show on manage match to the ones in the table?

How to load flat file in existing Architecture.

Hi everyone!
There is an existing architecture that I have to upload data into. There is a cube on top, followed below by an ODS and its update rules to the cube, followed below by an Infosource and its corresponding update rule to the ODS above it, followed below by a datasource (it says PC FILES(PC_FILE)) and its accompanying transfer rules to the infosource....
There is nothing in the ODS... No data. The Datasource says emmulated 3.x Datasource... (What does this mean?)
What I want to do is upload data via a flat file... Good BI Masters, how do I do this? How do I create a "dummy file" for upload? What are the specific sequence of steps that I need to do to load this flat file data?

I'm not sure what you are asking - is it how to load a file all the way to cube in 7.0?
From the architecture desc you have given, you havent migrated ur dataflow to new 7.0 dataflow, as you still have the update rules and transfer rules. So though ur system is 7.0, ur backend is still on 3.x, so the way you load a file is the same when your system was 3.x(before upgrade)
Or - are you asking the steps to load the file to a cube - no matter which environment you are in (3.x or 7.0)? if so, let us know .. and do a search on the forum for steps to load flatfile

ODS to Cube Load...Urgent...Please Help!!!

Consider the following architecture. We have SAP R/3 connected to an BW/SEM Production System and we are running the BCS consolidation module on this system. For consolidation purposes we have the following architecture in place. There is a daily delta update from R/3 to the ODS and the CUBE.
SAP R/3 -
0FIGL_O07 (ODS) -
ZBW_BCS (InfoCube)
We have been having numerous problems with the daily delta update that runs from R/3 to the ODS and the subsequent data target (the infocube).
Currently the delta has not run for 1 month. Usually the no. of records that are transferred are about 600,000. Today 22 million records were updated to the ODS but the load from the ODS to the cube failed.
The error message was:-
Delta update for 0FIGL_O07 is invalidated
Message no. RSBM113
Diagnosis
The delta update for the InfoCube 0FIGL_O07 is invalidated. The can be due to one of the following:
1. A request, which was already retrieved from the target system, was deleted from the InfoCube.
2. A request, which was not yet retrieved from the target system, was compressed in the InfoCube.
Procedure
Initialize your delta update again.
My questions are:-
1.) Do I have to re-initialize the ODS object and Cube ?
2.) If I delete all the data in the cube including the initialization request and select Update ODS contents in data target (Full update) will this work ?
3.) What could be the problem for this ?

ps; Please note that if the update is successful usually there is a green tick (correct sign) next to the request. There is no such sign for any request in the ODS at present.

Just to sum up what you said.
1.) I delete all the data from the cube.
2.) I delete the init request from the ODS to the cube.
3.) I re-initialize the request from the ODS to the Cube.
4.) I then say update ODS in Data Target and click Full Update ??

Best Practice says that if you have SAP BI in Back end and SAP BOBJ on front End then follow below mentioned path.
Create your SAP Query on the top of your InfoCube or ODS etc
Use calculated Key Figures and Restricted Key Figures in your Query.
Use most of the objects under Free Characteristics area for better performance and results
Create your Universe on the top of SAP Query. (we can create universe on the top of Cube and ODS but then we cannot use variable and performance also gets hit)
You can also create further variable / Filters at Universe level instead of WebI to improve performance
Create WebI report or Crystal Report etc (You can also create variables / Filters here).

Creating Queries from Cubes and ODS

Dear Gurus:
I'd like to learn how to make queries from ODS and CUBES. can any Guru out there prescribe a particular infocube / ods project for me to make report on in both 3.5 and BI 7? I can send daily reports on my progress. I think this is the only way I will learn.. I may even have to seek help to create a simple architecture from Source DataSourc to Target Data Source to transfer Rules to InforSource to ODS to Cube and then fuill it with practice data just so that I can design a query / queries... Can any kind BW Guru offer me his/her assistance please... I may run out of a job if I dont learn soon...
<b>By the way... I would like to make it known that I am starting out totally from scratch.... As in ZERO BW 3.5 and/or BI 7.0 experience nor application background in either. Hence the why I seek expert advice.Your kind support, understanding and advice will be greatly appreciated to no end!</b>

BW is an end-to-end data warehousing solution that uses preexisting SAP technologies. BW is built on the Basis 3-tier architecture and coded in the ABAP (Advanced Business Application Programming) language. It uses ALE (Application Link Enabling) and BAPI (Business Application Programming Interface) to link BW with SAP systems and non-SAP systems.
The top layer is the reporting environment. It can be BW Business Explorer (BEx) or a third-party reporting tool. BEx consists of two components:
BEx Analyzer
BEx Browser
BEx Analyzer is Microsoft Excel with a BW add-in. Thanks to its easy-to-use graphical interface, it allows users to create queries without coding SQL statements. BEx Browser works much like an information center, allowing users to organize and access all kinds of information. Third-party reporting tools connect with BW OLAP Processor through ODBO (OLE DB for OLAP).
The middle layer, BW Server, carries out three tasks:
Administering the BW system
Storing data
Retrieving data according to users' requests
The bottom layer consists of source systems, which can be R/3 systems, BW systems, flat files, and other systems. If the source systems are SAP systems, an SAP component called Plug-In must be installed in the source systems. The Plug-In contains extractors. An extractor is a set of ABAP programs, database tables, and other objects that BW uses to extract data from the SAP systems. BW connects with SAP systems (R/3 or BW) and flat files via ALE; it connects with non-SAP systems via BAPI.
The middle-layer BW Server consists of the following components:
Administrator Workbench, including BW Scheduler and BW Monitor
Metadata Repository and Metadata Manager
Staging Engine
PSA (Persistent Staging Area)
ODS (Operational Data Store) Objects

Infopackage - load to ODS - status yellow !

Hi everybody,
I am on BI 7.0 and i use Architecture 3.5.
When i transfer data (36000 records about) from a data table to ODS, i obtain for the 2 last days
a problem of loading -
> Status is always yellow.
As concerns TRFC, In transaction sm58, i obtain the following error:
RFC:     RSAR_TRFC_DATA_RECEIVED
Status: Conversion Error
I have different behaviours following configuration of my InfoPackage when Incorrect Data Records Occur:
   - Valid Records update, reporting possible -
> Status Yellow
   - Valid records update, no reporting       -
> Status Red (few records are wrong)
Have you any ideas ?

Hi,
If your data packets are getting into BW, then check your transfer and update rules, for any routines where the data is getting stuck.
If there are warnings, in the infopackage there is an option for treatment of warnings. Select the radio button as green and then reload the data.
Also suggest you keep an eye on SM50/51/66 to check what's happening with the data load.
Check the size of the data packets. If possible reduce the data size of the packets and see if that helps.

View data in ODS

BW Experts,
I have a new ODS and have loaded data in it. When I rt click on the ODS and choose manage and then if I want to see the contents of the ODS I am getting the following error.

Diagnosis
A system error with the following parameters has occurred in the data manager:
Parameter 1 = &v1&
Parameter 2 = &v2&
Parameter 3 = &v3&
Parameter 4 = &v4&</b>
However, I can still see my data through my active data table tab.
Any thoughts on why I am getting this error when I want to see it directely through manage ods?

Hi Ashwin,
Is the ODS enabled for reporting? I came across a similar situation recently and it was because I did not have the auth for data access for that particular ODS. I could look at the data through SE16 and the active data table, but not if I did a LISTCUBE for it.
After it was added to a role and assigned, the error message was removed. (Auth object: S_RS_ODSO)

There is no specific standard data source is not available to fetch us "Open PO" or "Open PR". first vll talk about PO.
For open PO,
case - 1
         Need to report count of all PO's which are in open status.
Case-2
        Need to report TBQ ( to be delivered Qty ) against each over due PO.
Basically we have - EKKO - HEADER , EKPO - ITEM AND EKET - SCHEDULE LINE ( GRC - GOODS RECEIVED ) is available,
so create a view, take all these three tables EKKO, EKPO and EKET.

Logic - create a generic DS, by view, FIRST send the data to DSO, there mention a field like TDQ ( to be deliver qty ), TDQ = po qty - goods received qty. -
create a cube above DSO, set a filter, allow only those records who has TDQ <>0, so your cube contains only pending PO.

I have reinstalled Mac OSX 10.6.3 and done the updates from there.
I have reinstalled ilife 11 from disk and done the updates.
I have deleted all the suggested files and then redone install and updates.
I have tried just reinstalling iphoto and doing updates.
Is there any way to get a replacement - /Library/Frameworks/iLifeSlideshow.framework/Versions/A/iLifeSlideshow
file with the right architecture?

Error while activating ODS Object

Hi,
I have loaded the data from R/3 to a ODS Object and the activation of ODS failed due to the following errors as shown below..
-Value '20060 ' of characteristic 0CALQUARTER is not plausible
-Error when assigning SID (details in long text)
-Activation of data records from ODS object ZODS_02 terminated
-Error getting SID for ODS object ZODS_02
I could see that Calendar Quarter as 20060 in PSA. How should i get rid of this error. Any idea would be appreciated.

you are getting this calender qurter from SAP right... check in RSA3 fro the your Datasource. if you are getting same value like '20060'. you can do one thing... you can set 'No Update' in Transfer Rules. you can write a routine in Update Rules for populating the data for calender Week.
you can call some standard function modules or you can write a small routine. If you want to write a routine check this thread...Re: Date to Quarter
Possibilites:
1. updtae rules
2. if RSA3(PSA) shows the value of the Quarter as '20050', if it is custom extractor(Generic using FM) you can change this.
3. If it is Standard Extractor or Generic Extractor (using either view/table or Infoset) you can enhance this. you can do the same thing in SAP Side.

i have the following errors turning up while activating ods.
1. creation of export data source failed
2. rfc connection to source system b3tclnt800 is damaged - no meta data upload
3. error when activating ods object
Can anyone let me know how to rectify it.

The problem is with ur Source Sys connection..
Above problems will be solved by restoring Source System Connection... Ask your Basis team to restore SS.
