Odt Support

Hello
I'm thinking about buying Pages. But I have to know if Pages support odt file type? And if LibreOffice support Pages document?
Thanks

No, it doesn't.  And note that the current version (5.1) is the only one easily available and that it is seriously crippled (it lacks about 100 features that were present in Pages 4.3 ("Pages 09") and is very buggy to boot.

  • Does Firefox have developer tools for debugging javascript code?

I am learning to write javascript in web pages. I have written some code that does not work as expected. I would like to set break points and check variables as the code executes. Are there add-ons or built-in tools that provide this functionality in Firefox? Thanks for your help.

It is not so much a matter of ODT supporting object types as it is whether ODP.NET does since ODP.NET is the underlying data access layer for ODT. Unfortunately ODP.NET does not support object types.
Possibly leading to some confusion about this is that the "PL/SQL User's Guide and Reference" is included in the ODT documentation that integrates into Visual Studio .NET combined help collection. Chapter 5 in the User's Guide is about "Using PL/SQL Collections and Records". However, PL/SQL Associative Arrays (which are described in this chapter along with VARRAYs and nested tables) are the only supported collection you can use at this time.

  • When will iPad Pages offer styles?

What's happening to Pages people — programmers and staff — at Apple? Aren't they interested in all the writers of the world to buy an iPad with Pages? You could easily cause this to happen if only you did the following:
Any writer will love what you offer today:
-- The super clear and sharp iPad 3 screen
-- Pages opens exactly where the writer left the document
-- All documents are safely and automatically stored in the iCloud
-- The feeling of the Apple Aluminum Keyboard is simply of the highest quality.
A computer, for a writer, for a real writer, becomes absolutely obsolete with tablets, like the iPad 3 or similar ones. Who needs the clumsy power draining notebook or desktop? They have become effectively a thing of the past, especially for writers.
However, they lack one thing that makes them unusable: Pages doesn't know about STYLES. That's right: PAGES doesn't know about STYLES!
When you export your pages documents, what you thought were styles have become paragraphs with different formatting parameters, but no styles or style definitions.
How is such a handicap possible? Please, BRING STYLES to the Pages of the iPad!!!!!
And teach iPad3 Pages to export in UTF-8!
And extend the functionality of Pages on the iPad with a DOCUMENT NAVIGATOR, something that will make it possible for you to move from heading (h1, h2, h3) to heading!
Please, do this soon! Or you will make us believe that you don't want WRITERS to adopt the iPad completely!
The most decent thing will be to GENERATE AN ePub book RIGHT from you Pages Document.
    What are you waiting for?

    > In general, your application is the best, ever; it's better even than most desktop giants. I love its simplicity and beauty. I really want to bring my book into it. It's a huge Pages / Word file, that I want to be able to work within your application. Any suggestions?
Wow! Thanks for the compliment. Really glad you like it
As I've mentioned on my website, word support is coming, but for now I think the best way to get your document into UX Write is to export it from Word to HTML. Unfortunately the output Word produces isn't particularly good, so it may need some manual cleaning up.
    > 1) Consider direct button for bold and italics
If you're using the on-screen keyboard, you can already do this (hold down the formatting key, and then press bold/italics)
    > 2) Consider sub and super script letters
This is on the to do list.
    > 3) Consider saving FROM iPad to DropBox (moving, copying, whatever).
Yes, I need to add better file management support (a major deficiency of iOS IMHO). Copying, moving, renaming etc are all planned for a future version, and won't be far off. For now, it's possible to use iTunes file sharing to access the files stored in the "My iPad" section, and you can move them to dropbox on your computer.
    > 4) Consider using numbered headings optional, but offer it actively
In the latest update (1.0.1) you can turn numbering on and off individually by tapping twice (or long pressing and releasing) on the heading, and selecting "remove number"/"add number". In the future I'll be making this an option for styles.
    > 5) Consider importing documents from Pages and Word and ODT (OpenOffice) and then asking the user how WE want the styles mapped.
What I'm planning here is not an import and export as such (which is a lossy process), but to keep the original structure of the document and just apply the relevant changes to it at save time. Any formatting attributes or document elements that UX Write doens't understand (e.g. embedded spreadsheets) will be left in place, and still be there when you go back to your PC/Mac. I've promised support for Word in my roadmap, and am very strongly considering ODT support as well.
    > 6) Consider exporting documents to Pages and Word or OpenOffice (ODT)
    As above
    > 7) Consider allowing the user to edit CSS and HTML code, directly. I can send the document to Textastic, I can examine it there, maybe edit it, preview it, but I can't bring it back to Ux.
That's an interesting option. I'm tempted to rely on third-party programs for this, because there are already several (like textastic) which do this kind of thing very well, and it's a lot of work to implement. I think the best option would be for me to contact the author of textastic and work on a way to easily get the document back into UX Write so that people can easily use the two apps together.
    > 8) Highly important: allow URL for pictures / figures / graphics!
I agree this would be handy. The main challenge is working out how to do this in an intuitive manner that will gracefully handle the case of broken links. I need to give some more thought to this.
    > 9) Provide a way to EXPORT, edit, copy, handle, the HTML generated.
I'm not sure what you mean by this - it's already possible to access the HTML files via Dropbox/WebDAV from other apps, and you can also email the HTML file to yourself directly from the app. Is this the kind of thing you're talking about?
    > I have a large — 169,000 words — document in Word. It is also in Pages (no styles, only direct formatting). Of course, I would like to IMPORT it into UX. However, the HTML generated by Word turns out to be too dirty and huge. I will experiment to see what it does, but if you have any straightforward suggestions, please, let me know.
169,000 words with direct formatting - ouch! I can see why you want to change The largest document I've tested it with so far is my 116,000 word PhD thesis (which I originally wrote on LyX), and it works ok on that, though I need to improve performance of loading and saving.
Word produces horrible HTML output, and this is a big problem at the moment for bringing content into UX Write. Once I have native word support in, the situation will be much better.
    > Again, thanks for such a great applications for writers…
    Thanks!

  • How do I activate Office 2013 that I have deployed using ODT and App-V onto a Remote Desktop Server?

    I am setting up a demo Server 2012 R2 environment (1 DC server, 2 RDSH servers, 1 App-V server).
I have created an Office 2013 volume license App-V package using the latest Office Deployment Toolkit. I have deployed the App-V package to an RDS server and it all works fine. However, I am unable to activate Office 2013 using the MSDN Office 2013 retail
key because it tells me the product key is invalid for this version of Office. I've looked at the alternative of using the App-V Sequencer to create the Office 2013 package, but from what I've read this is not a Microsoft supported method.
Is there any way that I can activate Office 2013 (volume license on RDS) using the method I've outlined above, or is there any way of using the Office2013 download from MSDN such that it can be packaged by the ODT (or App-V Sequencer) for successful deployment
using App-V and activation using the retail Office 2013 product key on MSDN?

True, VL channel media can't be activated with MSDN Retail pkeys (that's what I was trying to get you to understand, I figured you would be attempting that, as so many people do :(
I've not attempted your scenario myself.
    It sounds like you aren't following the supported scenarios as (poorly) described by MS;
The way I read their guide, for an RDS scenario, you must use a VL key [either MAK or KMS] (since a subscription product+key can't be used on RDS):
    i.e.: <Product ID="ProPlusVolume">
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2772509
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2915745
    http://technet.microsoft.com/library/dn481351.aspxhttp://blogs.technet.com/b/office_resource_kit/archive/2013/12/02/announcing-app-v-5-0-sp2-support-for-office-2013-volume-licensing-editions.aspx
So, that all means that for RDS, you can't use anything other than VL "product" (in
the form of an ODT-generated output) with a VL pkey. So, for your RDS demo setup, you need to use real product and real pkeys.

  • Executing a script using full path in ODT 11.1.0.5.10 beta?

Using a query window from ODT 10x, I used to be able to run a script using '@' and the path to the script. For example: '@D:\Documents\CAL.MB\Oracle\Create Scripts\Applicant\APPLICANT_TB.sql'.
Now I get the following error:
Command '@D:\Documents\CAL.MB\Oracle\Create Scripts\Applicant\APPLICANT_TB.sql' is not supported in query window.
I checked the documentation, but I couldn't find an alternative way to do this. Anyone know of any alternatives?

Use VS.NET Tools menu->Run SQL*Plus Script->Specify the full path of your filename ->Select the connection->Hit the ok button.

    Hi Amr,
I am able to download stream.x86.en-us.dat on my machine. See the screenshot below:
As per the log and your screenshot, I'm thinking it might be an issue with your network. I would suggest you try this within a different network and see if issue persists.
Also, please check your firewall or antivirus software, make sure that they are not blocking any Office 365 URLs and IP addresses:

  • Import/Place .odt files in Indesign CS6

    Hi,
Can we place/import .odt files in Indesign CS6? If yes, how?
Or do we need to convert them into other specific word formats so that the content & styles remain the same.
    Thanks.

    Save as Word file.
InDesign can't import ODF files - so you'll have to use a format or application that does support.
I don't know if the index entries are kept when going from ODF to Word.

  • Switching from ODP 9.x to ODP 10 and ODT

We currently are using ODP 9 with VS 2003 and Oracle 9i databases. However, I would like to switch over to the new Oracle Developer Tools and ODP 10. From what I have seen, I believe this works fine with our Oralce 9i databases. However I am confused about what we need to do to do this, both for ourselves and for our users.
    1. For us developers, do we just uninstall ODP 9, then install ODT 10, and then recompile everything? Do we need to also install ODP 10?
    2. What our our users - those who just run our application and do not use the developer tools? Do they need to uninstall ODP 9 and install ODP 10? Do they just use ODP client and do NOT have to install the ODT?
    3. Can both ODP 9 and ODP 10 (ODT 10) exist on the same machine?
I just need some guidence on what I need to do to switch both myself and our users from ODP 9 to ODP 10. Thanks!
    Tom

Well I already bought 10.4.6, getting it delivered today. But thanks for the link to that alternative browser, whcih ansnsweres my question as to what solutions OS 9 users use today to browse the internet. Anyway, I'm gonna upgrade to to Tiger (paid for) which was recommended for my hardware, which is not new, from 2000, but it's my understanding that 2 processors could work well with OX 10. Right now, I think my extra processor is utilized only by Photoshop 6.01 but not globally with OS 9. Althogth I can believe you that OSX is slower than OS9, I'm hoping that the 2x processor support will compensate for that.

  • ODT 11.1.0.6.20 doesn't work under Visual Studio 2005 server explorer

I tried to connect to an Oracle Server by Server Explorer of Visual Studio 2005:
    1) In Server Explorer I click with right mouse button on Data Connections and choose Add Connection...
    2) I click on Change...
    3) I choose Oracle Database in the left list
    4) I choose Oracle Data Provider for .NET under the bottom left drop down list called Data provider (I see .NET Framework Data Provider for Oracle and .NET Framework Data Provider for OLE DB too)
    5) Instead of the dialog window shown at this link [http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/net11gobe/building.net/images/addconn04.gif] I see the dialog window shown at this other link [http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/8212/wrongvisualstudio2005se.png]
    6) If I try to insert a right connection string or simply click on OK I receive this message box: "An unexpected error occurred in the .NET Framework Data Provider for Oracle. Please contact the provider vendor to resolve this problem."
If I try to redo all the operations I cannot see anymore the Oracle Data Provider for .NET under the bottom left drop down list called Data provider.
    My system configuration is:
    - Windows XP SP2 32Bit
    - Oracle 11g ODAC 11.1.0.6.21 with Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio (I installed all the packages with Instant Client too, the client works I tried with SqlPlus and Sql Navigator 6.1)
    - Visual Studio 2005 Version 8.0.50727.762 (SP.050727-7600)
    - .NET Framework 2.0.50727
I can use .NET Framework Data Provider without any problems, but I need the new ODT 11.1.0.6.20 because I can insert stored procedures into .NET dataset visual designer and call from a TableAdapter.
I hope someone can help me.

  • Are the ODT tools really included in ODAC 11.2 Release 3 (11.2.0.2.1)

I have installed ODAC 11.2 Release 3 and Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio (11.2.0.2.1) using the download at http://download.oracle.com/auth/otn/other/ole-oo4o/ODTwithODAC112021.zip onto a PC running VS2010 running Windows XP Professional SP3.
This has successfully installed the Oracle data providers and "ODAC Documentation for Visual Studio 2010" (which I can access and use successfully from within VS2010) but there is no sign of any of the ODT tools !
I have tried digging into the install files and can find no evidence of the ODT install.
Can anyone confirm (or not) that ODT is part of this install please ?

Thanks for the updates - yes, I forgot to say that I am running VS2010 Premium, sorry.
I don't get ODP.NET in Server Explorer, I only get the standard Microsoft providers (including Microsoft's Oracle provider).

Should I see ODT in there as a part of the inventory ?
Could anyone point me at something in the VS configuration files that should reference ODT so that I can definitively say whether the tools have been installed and properly integrated.
    Thanks again.

  • 11.1.06.20 doesn't support drag-and-drop?

One of the major time-saving reasons to use ODT at all is the ability to drag a procedure from the Server Explorer (worked great in Oracle Explorer, what happened to that?) and have the OracleCommand automatically populated with all the parameters, etc. After upgrading to 11.1.06.20 and playign with it in VS 2008, I am very disappointed to see that this is no longer supported.
Are there plans to provide this support in the near future?
PS - Manually configuring all the parameters for all the table ins/upd/del commands is not a reasonable alternative.

Thanks for the response. Your link was indeed helpful and I'm very impressed with the drag-and-drop functionality onto the form. However, this doesn't really solve my problem.
    Consider we have a table:
    customer (
         customer_id number(14) not null,
         first_name varchar2(30) not null,
         last_name varachar2(30) not null
)We also have an update procedure:
    customer_ins (
         in_customer_id in number,
         io_first_name in out varchar2,
         old_first_name in varchar2,
         cur_first_name out varchar2,
         io_last_name in out varchar2,
         old_last_name in varchar2,
         cur_last_name out varchar2
    ) is
    begin
         select first_name,
                   last_name
              into chg_first_name,
                   chg_last_name
              from customer
              where customer_id = in_customer_id
              for update of first_name,
                   last_name;
         update customer
              set first_name = io_first_name,
                   last_name = io_last_name
              where custoemr_id = in_customer_id;
         select first_name,
                   last_name,
              into io_first_name,
                   io_last_name
              from customer
              where customer_id = in_customer_id;
end; This lets us know if another process changed the data while the user was looking at it, and can return that data to the application so the application can make decisions about whether to proceed. It also allows us to return to the application any changes to the data that may have occurred because of triggers.
When I try to set the UpdateCommand on the TableAdapter for my customer table, I can select the correct stored procedure from a list, but it doesn't create parameters for me.
    Am I doing something wrong?
I tried adding the update procedure to my data source, and see it's added in a QueriesTableAdapter, but I don't see a way to reference that command from my customer TableAdapter, and the procedure in my QueriesTableAdapter doesn't have any parameters set anyway.
I would very much appreciate any direction.
    Thanks

  • Production release of ODT now available

I'm happy to announce that the production release of ODT is now available for download here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/dotnet/tools/index.html
There have been alot of enhancements over the beta. A few of the more interesting ones include:
    * support for generating typed datasets
    * ad hoc SQL Query Window with script support
    * enhanced PL/SQL editing
    * integrated error manual
    Keep the feedback coming!

Here are some first impressions of the "Query window". This is just a list of the problems, so it seems quite negative. Some of the problems are small and some are larger. The thing that I think will annoy me most from day-to-day is the lack of a hotkey for execute and that bind-variables are not supported (but we all have our pet-bugs/problems):
    - In the context menu for the connection move the "Query Window" up under open (I quite sure the query window is more used than both "Delete" and "Close").
    - You shouldn't call the feature "Query Window" in the context menu and "Query Editor" in the title of the window. Be consistent.
    - You might want to rename the "Query Window" to "Query Analyser" (for compatibility with sql server)
    - A explain window (or rather a explain tab) should be added (like every other query tool).
    - Sql-statements should be timed, the time should be shown in milisecounds(!) and rounded/truncated (it might not be that percise but it invaluble as a quick guage when rewriting a sql to see if you a going in the right direction). For extra points show any "long ops" messages/status at regular intervals. Maybe it would be very interesting (powerfull) to see "buffer gets" next to the elapsed time.
    - "Execute" really need a hotkey. I would suggest either "Ctrl+Enter" (for compatibility with Toad), "Ctrl+E (for compatibility with Sql Server) or F5 (for compatibility with Sql Server and Visual Studio). The hot key sould be shown in a tooltip when hovering the execute button.
    - I overlooked the execute button at first. Move it to a toolbar and make it a green "Play"-button (for compatibility with Toad, Tora and Sql Server).
    - When having 2 sql-statements in a query window you seem to execute the last one. Please execute the one under the cursor. Sql statements should be seperated by empty lines (ie. containing only white space) or a semicolon.
    - The "Toggle Query Output" is non-descriptive. Change it to "Hide Query Output" (and "Show Query Output" respectively) and add the little black cross that e.g. the "Task List" have.
    - When having e.g. "select * from dual;" the Query Window and going to the line before that statement and typing "/*test" the whole window turns green (so far, so good), but when adding the closing "*/" after "test" the select-statement stays green.
    - Line and collumn-numbers in the error messages would be really usefull.
    - It seems that you don't provide help to the keywords? it thought that was one of the "selling points"?
    - Intellisense would be nice (but maybe mostly a "cool"/"demoware" feature). But maybe a hotkey for opening the "Oracle Explorer" with the active (eg. where the cursor is on or a the right of) table/view/function/package/... expaned would be more usefull. If the cursor is at the right of the keyword "FROM" a list of tables should be shown but if it is on "FROM" the help with the syntax should be shown. Escape should return focus to the query.
    - Ctrl+L should make the selection lowercase and Ctrl+U make it uppercase (or Ctrl+U and Ctrl+Shift+U for compatibility with the rest of VS.NET). I find that the code, I use the editors "change case"-feature most on is sql sinse I really like sql keywords upper case and identifiers lower case (and oracle ofthe make everything uppercase).
    - Now I see that there is a execute button on the toolbar, but (a) you have made it a strange brownish green (please make it greener) (b) you have placed it in the far left (or that is where it showed for me) in the top toolbar, where I had expected it to the left of the text "Query Editor" (inside the "ORACLE://<shema>.<datasource>/Query" pane).
    - Move the title "Query Editor" to the Tab (that says "ORACLE://<shema>.<datasource>/Query"). This will save some vertical space and make space for the toolbar. The title "Query Output" might be remove altogether.
    - Bind variables doesn't seem to be supported. I think that this is really a problem since *you should make it easy for developers to do the right think* and bind variables certainly is the right thing. You should bring up a window with the binds that are used in the query and enable me to set their type (if you can't figure it out from context (eg. emp.id=:emp_id would probably mean that :emp_id is a number) and their value. Also please persist the type/value for each variable name so I don't need to figure out the id of that employee I usally test with.
    A few non-query window notes:
    - In the spirit of "make it easy to do the right thing", what would be the easy way to call (and get intellisense on) a package function in a the cs-file?
    - In the context menu for a procedure "Run" should be "Run..." sinse it just brings up a window. And you probably want to "Delete" at the bottom (above the line).
    - In the context menu for a view "Retrive Data..." should be "Retrive Data" sinse it doesn't bring up a dialog. I accidentally selected it for a rather large/slow view and really wanted a "Stop" button (thanks for the option to stop after 30 seconds). I think you shouldn't retrive more than, say, 50 rows without the user explicitly saying so (and never blob/long raw columns or more than eg. 100 chars from a clob/long column).
    - The default action when dobbelt clicking a table shouldn't be "Retrive Data..."(!), it should be "Design...".
    - Choosing "Generate Create Script..." (which might just be called "Generate Script") on a produce, funciton or package, should bring up a preview window with a save-button.
    - When opening a function in the "Oracle Explorer", setting the cursor on eg. the keyword FUNCTION and hitting F1, the help index opens searching for "Oracle.ODT.SQL.CREATE FUNCTION", but there is (of cause?) no such topic. If I select the any part of the text in the help index search box and hit delete, I am asked "Oracle Explorer, Are you sure that you want to permanently delete '<shema>.<datasource>.<function name>' from the database ?" which is definetly not was I want to do!
With regards to the rest of the add-in, what is was really hoping for was Visual Source Safe integration and easy procedure calling, but that doesn't seem to be implemented. But then I don't know what the problem statement for this add-in was.

  • .DOC(X) vs .PAGES vs .ODT -- usage/legacy/archiving questions...

(I know I know this has been discussed a lot I'm sure, but I still have some unresolved issues, so please try to bear with me.)
I know iWork is NOT the same as Office and is NOT meant as a replacement for Office (regardless of most Apple Store staff misrepresenting this "Save As" MS Office file extension functionality). However still longterm legacy issues persist that I'm wanting some help on from users here so that I won't have problems opening files in 10+ years time without in some way losing the original document formatting.
Just bought recently Macs, and I like Pages and Numbers usability, and understand they are not Office replacements when it comes to what they do and especially the formats you can save to while using (yes there's a script to save continuously CMD+S as .doc/.xls, but still the formatting allowed in iWork apps is usually not then allowable!).
My main issue then, is if Apple have changed their native formats (.pages & .numbers) heavily between '08 and '09 versions, so much so that users are complaining of losing formatting even on Apple's own upgraded products, then what is going to be the state of opening these things in 5-10-20 years time?
Is it really worth the risk of having HUGE legacy issues when archiving current files with Apple's format types, as Office formats are being ISO standardised?
The reason I raise this, is that from what I have read, MS Office is currently using these "Office Open XML" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OfficeOpenXML ) standards (.docx, .xlsx, pptx) which will be an International ISO standard. Thus ANY office program in the future will be able to open and edit cleanly WITHOUT losing any formatting on the original program.
Why is Apple outside of this with it's proprietary iWork formats, which are not very compatible. And more to the point, as a user who doesn't want format issues in the future when opening older files, what would be the benefit of saving to the iWork extensions?
I also have read about this other competing 'open' standardised format of OpenDocument/ODF (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenDocument ) —.odt, .ods, .odp, etc.— which only OpenOffice/NeoOffice seem to be going down (yes, I know TextEdit can open but limited).
But seeing as .doc & .xls have been the business formats of choice (MS Office legacy), are being ISO standardised, and still remain high % universal with most other users, why use ODF or iWork fomats AT ALL?
How do others around here deal with all these choices, when it comes to archives in the future?
    Yours perplexed, Jim

Read this press release from MS in May 2008:
    http://www.microsoft.com/Presspass/press/2008/may08/05-21ExpandedFormatsPR.mspx
    To summarise:
Basically MS Office are supporting BOTH formats: OOXML (Office Open XML: .docx, .xlsx, .pptx) and ODF (Open Document Format: .odt, .ods, .odp). So users will have the choice of which ISO standard to use.
This makes Apple's iWork completely redundant and out of the equation, as it only supports fully its own proprietary extensions (.pages, .numbers, .keynote). With half-exportable abilities to the old pre-XML Office formats (ie. without the "x" on the end) of .doc, .xls, .ppt.
So, if you really want a paid-for product (rather than the free, but not very good graphically "GUI" programs), you should almost certainly go for MS Office For Mac 2008. At least then you'll know that you'll be able to use BOTH the leading file standards going forward into the future.
Even if macro's are not on Office Mac 2008, the next edition will almost certainly have the full suite that the Office Windows 2010 will get.
...shame cause I really like iWork's interface more. Why Apple didn't focus on the iWork user interface and productivity rather than their own special not-widely-adopted proprietary formats, seems lacking in business sense, given us users are not completely thick and can work out a future dead-end format when we see it. (pages 08 not even working with pages 09 - outrageous IMO?!?)
Surely they realised that these two format systems are the future, yet are attempting to go completely against the grain WRONGLY trying to gain some kind of market share for themselves at the loss of interoperability with other users and platforms.
You can understand it from a straight money point of view (gaining a market share of users to keep for their own products only), but with online Google Apps now and MS's online offering improving soon, both using these two ISO standard formats; why would anyone want to be stuck on their own with the Apple iWork ones?
And hence why staff in store tell half-truths about iWork working with Office. As a relatively new Apple user I expected some specialities, but this I am most unimpressed about. Bad Bad Bad Bad.
