ODWA6i/Headstart 6i against Designer 6i R4

Hi guys,
i'm experiencing troubles running iDevCOE software against Designer 6i Release 4.
1. Grant scripts in ODWA 6i report errors because Designer lacks several packages (CIOACTION_ITEM for instance) in comparison to previous releases. The RAU doesn't report missing or invalid objects anyway.
Question: has Designer's interface been changed, or is the repository not installed correctly?
2. Restoring Headstart's unversioned dump in an unversioned repository doesn't work. Importing works, but when performing next step, Designer reports the user needs 'manage workarea privilege', which can't be set for a non-versioned repository. This all worked in Release 2.
Question: is the unversioned dump incompatible with Designer 6i R4? Or is it an incorrect installation again?
Did someone run into the same kind of trouble?

We are planning to use Des6i R4 but I noticed this post that this could cause some problems. So I am wondering why there was no response from the Headstart team at this question or that the problem is solved at the customer.
I mean this is a very important issue !!

When using the Headstart Business Rule Design Transformer to generate Business Rules, the table is required to be checked out. In previous releases, we have been told that an automatic check-out is performed on the table(s), but ours forces us to manually check-out the table definition, or it does not continue. We think we have the user settings done correctly, but there may be something that we have missed. How can we get Headstart to automatically check-out the table(s) for which we want to run the Business Rules design transformer? Or is this a bug in the current release? We are using Headstart release v6.5.2.3 (HSU_BRTR). Thanks.

    Tim,
Headstart should be able to check out any tables you need.
We think we have the user settings
done correctly, but there may be something that we
have missed. How can we get Headstart to
automatically check-out the table(s) for which we
want to run the Business Rules design transformer? The user settings you need are (see also pages 5-7 and 5-10 in the Headstart User's Guide):
    - Under 'Process the following objects', choose 'Checked out by anyone'
    - Also check the check box '... also Checked In objects'
    - Choose whether you want to automatically check out with or without lock
If this does not help, please run the utility with log level 'Debug Detailed' (can also be set in the User Preferences) and report the last few lines of the log messages. They should give an indication of why the check out does not succeed.
    Hope this helps,

  • Error Headstart in combination Designer 6, Developer 6 HELP

We have upgraded to Desigener 6.0 and Developer 6.0 (patch 6).
All the pll's compile when (qmslib50, qmsevh50), the generation of a small application in Designer 6 (was first in Designer 2.1.2) went well.
When we run the forms we get the following error "FRM-40733 PL/SQL Build in DBMS_ERROR_TEXT failed. I'm searching for two days and haven't come up with a solution
    Please help !?

You are probably using an Oracle 8.1.5 database an running against Oracle RDBMS problem report 966970. Oracle Support has tested
it against an 8.1.6 database and there the problem is fixed. There is also a workaround available for 8.1.5, see the Headstart discussion
forum on OTN and look at the e-mails of Cheryl Riley (thanks Cheryl). I suggest however that you move to 8.1.6.

  • Headstart Oracle Designer

Could someone send me the standard price list for Headstart?

    Doina,
The listprice for Headstart Oracle Designer 2.1.2 is USD 1495 per developer. We use the rule that the number of licenses should equal the number of Oracle Designer license.
Patches, like the Headstart for Oracle Designer 6.0 patch and extra options like CDM RuleFrame and the CDM Standards options are free and can be downloaded from OTN.
If you have more questions please let me know.

  • Designer and Headstart 6 upgrade to 6i questions

One of my customer is using Developer 6i, Designer 6.0 and
    Headstart 6.0
He is considering upgrading to Designer 6i and possibly
    Headstart 6i
New features of Designer 6i are well documented on technet but
    what about Headstart 6i?
    What are the new features?
Is it worth it or can you keep on using Headstart 6 with
    Designer 6i?
My customer was quoted roughly $2500 per upgrade.
He is not ready to pay this amount of money without first
knowing exactly what he'll get, obviously.
From what I have read on technet, Headstart 6i is now part of a
    broader tool called iDevelopment Accelerators.
Yet, what does Headstart 6i offer that Headstart 6 does not?
And do you HAVE to upgrade to Headstart 6i if you upgrade to
    Designer 6i?

  • Designer6.0/Headstart to Designer 9i

    Hello world,
Is it possible to use the Designer 6.0-Headstart version (qmsolb50, qmstpl50 etc) in combination with Designer 9i? Is it possible to migrate from Designer 6.0 to 9i without upgrading Headstart (I know a recompile in Developer 9i is needed, but should I buy the 9i-version)?
Are there any known limitations, bugs, workarounds etc?
    TIA
    Roel Hartman

    Roel,
As designer9i and designer6i (at the moment) hardly differ, what you intend to do resembles strongly a 'simple upgrade' strategy from designer 6.0 to
    designer 6i.
Main difference is that you need the headstart designer 9i software (up to 6.5.3.1 available through the supplement option). Just follow the instructions in miggd65.pdf, chapter 2 and 3.
There are of course known limitations of using the simple upgrade strategy, the migration guide explains in detail when to choose for simple, when to choose for a full upgrade scenario.
My advice would be to always full upgrade an application, unless no functionality changes are to be expected anymore.
Mind that the headstart templates for designer 6i intend to fully exploit webforms functionality and new designer 6i features.
For more information on this, refer to the release notes (relhsd65.htm) and the migration guide mentioned above, both included in the iDevelopment Accelerators software suite.

  • Oracle 9i WEB-forms, with or without Headstart?

We have some applications that are created with Designer 2.1.2 and Headstart 2.1.2 and we are about to migrate these to Oracle9i Web Forms and here are my questions:
    1) What are the advantages/disadvantages if we continue to use Headstart?
    2) What do we need to get Headstart working together with Oracle 9i Web Forms?
    3) Where do we order new software/license for "Headstart for 9i"?
    4) Are there any way we can get support on Headstart except the forum on OTN?
    5) Briefly explained, if we remove Headstart and replace it with own-developed code, what would our main tasks/problems be?
    6) Are there any functionality we cannot have if we remove Headstart from our applications?

    1) What are the advantages/disadvantages if we continue to use Headstart?
The advantages would be more or less the same as for Headstart 2.1.2, except for the fact that you can make use of new features, and it runs on the web too! A 'disadvantage' would be that only web forms is supported out of the box (not client/server) and you need to set up an application server. Of course you need to migrate, which sometimes can be a difficult task. However, this depends on things like customizations on top of Headstart, typical client/server features that have been used and that cannot be migrated to web forms etc. A lot of this has been documented in the Headstart Migration Guide.
    2) What do we need to get Headstart working together with Oracle 9i Web Forms?
We build Headstart against Designer 9i (+ Developer 9i that comes with it). At this point we still are working on Headstart for Designer 9i.
    3) Where do we order new software/license for "Headstart for 9i"?
Contact your Oracle Consulting Manager, or call Oracle and ask for Mike Kruijsdijk.
    4) Are there any way we can get support on Headstart except the forum on OTN?
You can hire consultancy from us or one of our partners.
    5) Briefly explained, if we remove Headstart and replace it with own-developed code, what would our main tasks/problems be?
    To mention some of them:
    - It probably would take man-years to build a template package with the same functionality
    - Headstart code at some points deals with Forms bugs, which you now have to deal with yourself
    - You have no support any more (upgrades) and need to do upgrades for new versions of Designer yourself. I've seen more than one customer that are years behind with upgrading to new versions of Designer, because of this.
And many more. You really should investigate this thouroughly before you start on this. It would not surprise me if you come to the conclusion you might as well rebuild your applications completely.
    6) Are there any functionality we cannot have if we remove Headstart from our applications?
You can have anything you like, as long as you build it yourself. But for practical reasons I suppose you will not have RuleFrame for example.
As long as you don't start building new applications with it, the code practically is yours, so you might consider to do the upgrade of Headstart yourself. Of course support will be more difficult, but you still can hire consultancy.

  • Using Designer 6i API/Views

    Hello,
Can anyone please tell me what the Designer 6i equivalent of this Designer 6.0 query on the repository is:
    SELECT citd.name
    FROM ci_application_systems cias,
    ci_table_definitions citd
    WHERE citd.application_system_owned_by = cias.id
    AND cias.name = '&&application_name'
    AND cias.version = &&application_version
When run from SQL*Plus against Designer 6.0 it produces a list of tables in the server model for a specific version of an application. I would like to do the same thing in Designer 6i.
    Thanks
    Ian

    Ian,
Join with sdd_folder_members to get a link between table and application systems:
    SELECT citd.name
    FROM ci_application_systems cias,
    sdd_folder_members mem,
    ci_table_definitions citd
    WHERE mem.folder_reference = cias.id
    AND mem.object_reference = citd.id
    AND cias.name = '&&application_name'
If you want to exclude shortcuts (formerly known as shares), add: AND mem.ownership_flag = 'Y'
Note that ci_application_systems does not have a version column anymore, because in Designer 6i every object is versioned and that is recorded in a different way.
If you perform the above query without a workarea context, you will get all versions of the application system and all versions of the tables. The best way to avoid this is to first set a workarea context with the following command:
    (execute) jr_context.set_workarea('&&workarea_name');
Then (in the same session) perform your query. The workarea context will ensure that the ci_views only contain those versions that are in the workarea, that is at most one version per object.
    Hope this helps,
    Sandra

  • Server-side installation of Headstart

We've got a live database (8.1.5) with Headstart (2.1.2) installed, all the application's objects, forms, code libraries have been generated using Headstart.
I've created a test database, generated my applications tables from the original repository there, and I want to run my existing live Headstart forms against the test database but I'm unsure about the Headstart server-side installation.
From the installation guide, I can see that I need to run insthst.sql and hstuseri.grt, but I haven't yet got a Headstart Template Package owner. I know that in the live application, the Headstart Template Package owner is the owner of the Headstart objects.
I'd like to know if I create a Headstart Template Package owner in my test database, do I then run insthst.sql and hstuseri.grt, and is there anything else I need to do.
    Thanks,
    John.

In your test database, you need to have all of the Headstart runtime objects. There are a couple of options for how
to do this. These are described in the User Guide Chapter 8, Runtime Environment.
You will use insthst.sql to create the objects.
If you use a separate Headstart schema, then you can use hstuseri.grt to create the required grants and synonyms
from your application owner schema to the Headstart schema.
Depending on how your users log onto the application, they will also need access to the Headstart objects.

  • How to purchase Headstart Supplement Option (software maintenance)

We own a license of Headstart (version 6.5.1.13) and run it with Designer 6i on Oracle9i database. This Headstart software was purchased at a time when upgrade support was not available or we were not aware of that option. I've been in contact with my "local" Oracle consulting contact team for about a month and they cannot determine how to purchase the software update support. It's not available in the Oracle store unless you purchase a new license. I need the Supplement Option in order to upgrade our Headstart software (and Designer/Developer) to work with Oracle 9iAS. What is the procedure to purchase this support?

    This has been resolved.

  • Headstart, webforms on unix

Hi, I am trying to deploy an application built using headstart on unix
Is there any know issues and corresponding workarounds to be aware of.
At this stage we're having a lot of hassle just to copy files across and compiling them.
There is just no consistency in upper/lower/initcap naming of library/forms/menu files (generated out of designer ofg*.pll) - Has anyone successfully done that.
Is there any changes to be made to the object library - visual attributes/fonts.
    TIA

    Known UNIX issues for Headstart:
    1. Designer is somewhat inconsistent with uppercase and lowercase attachments in generated modules. :-)
If you have a lowercase file name on UNIX, but a form or library expects it to be (partly) in uppercase, you can make a
so-called link. Example: suppose you have a file named qmslib65.pll, but one of your libraries refers to it as
QMSLIB65.pll. Go to the UNIX folder where you stored qmslib65.pll and perform the following command:
    ln qmslib65.pll QMSLIB65.pll
After this, you have created a 'synonym' QMSLIB65.pll which points to the real file qmslib65.pll, and the reference
from your other library will work.
    2. The next issue has to do with translating of registry variables from NT to environment variables in UNIX.
Headstart has created a few registry entries in a 'Headstart' subdirectory under the Oracle entry.
    HEADSTART\IMAGEFILE_PATH
    HEADSTART\HELPFILE_WEB_PATH
Unix does not allow environment variables to have a '\' in the name.
The workaround for this is to move these registry settings up one level to the Oracle node and rename them.
    HSD_IMAGEFILE_PATH
    HSD_HELPFILE_WEB_PATH
Then, you will need to edit qmslib65.pll and change all references to these variables to the new name.
    3. The final issue occurs in the report launch form.
QMS0012L.QMS$REPORT must pass the module name in lowercase.
    IF NOT g_module_set
    THEN
    l_module_name := name_in(qms0012f.get_short_name_item);
    -- add lower around l_module_name
    -- because of UNIX !!
    add_par_to_list('MODULE',
    LOWER(l_module_name));
    END IF;

    Mark,
I apologize for the late reply. Due to the way the threads are
organized, it is easy to miss a new reply on a thread.
Oracle is not sending mixed messages or changing plans. Headstart
2.1.2 works with Designer/Developer 6.0, however, you will have
to upgrade the forms and libraries to Developer 6.0 before you
can start generating. To make your life easier, we have therefore
made available a patch, which is now downloadable from OTN, which
includes the upgraded files. In addition, we have fixed some bugs
    in this patch.
To upgrade to 2.1.2, you should order Headstart 2.1.2. Note that
Headstart can only be ordered through Oracle Consulting.
The release notes of every new Headstart release contain a
section with comprehensive information on upgrading from a
    previous Headstart release.
Hope you re-gained some confidence in Oracle with this reply!
