OEL-5 finally released but with many desktop packages missing

Hi,
OEL-5 GA has just been released but with many client (desktop) packages missing (as opposed to CENTOS-5 where all RHEL-5 categories are bundled into only one distribution). Namely, three months ago RHEL-5 has been released in three basic categories:
1. Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop
2. Red Hat Enterprise Linux
3. Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Platform
The complete souce code for these distributions resides in two Red Hat ftp directories: "5Client" and "5Server" with different contents. It seems that OEL-5 GA includes only packages from "5Server" directory. So, many important applications are missing:
- openoffice.org
- kdepim (kmail, knode etc)
- thunderbird
- fribidi
- gaim
- k3b
etc.
I'm little confused, since it would be very stupid to have to download those packages from CENTOS-5 or self-compiling them from Red Hat source rpm download site.
N.J.

Thanks a lot Wim.
Yes I know, the problem didn't exist in RHEL-4/OEL-4, since AS was superset of ES, WS and Desktop. Unfortunatelly, It's not the case in version 5 where client version includes many packages that are missing in server version and vice versa. To avoid complications with new subscription channels, I would suggest the simplest and the most logical solution: all three categories BUNDLED in single distribution OEL-5 GA and only one subscription channel, just like CENTOS-5 (six CD ISOs).

  • Trying to restore photos from external drive and realized TimeMachine had been turned off.  Found in Imac backup folder in iPhoto library a modified folder with many of the missing pics.  Can I restore these?

I recently had a hard drive crash on my iMac.  After replacing the drive, I discovered that TimeMachine had apparently been turned off for six months, and all my photos from that period were missing after the restore.  In looking on the external drive used by TimeMachine, I discovered a folder called Imac backup, and under iPhoto Library was a folder called Originals and subfolders for each year.  To my surprise, there were photos covering the missing time period!  Somehow I imported the 2011 folder from the external drive into iPhoto, and then I discovered they were small files of less than 100 KB each, not the 1-2 MB original photos.  So now all of 2011 is screwed up, not just from May on.  These photos also include faces pulled from many larger group photos.
I can get Jan - April restored using TimeMachine.  But in continuing to explore the Imac backup folder, I found a similar folder in iPhoto Library called Modified.  This folder has many of the missing photos in their original MB size in folders indexed by date for the missing period after April.  Is there a way that I can get these modified photos back onto my new hard drive and into the iPhoto library without causing more damage?  If TimeMachine was turned off after April, how did those modified photos and all those small images from the missing period find their way to the external drive?
    Any wisdom greatly appreciated.

What you want to do is merge the two Libraries? The only way to do this is to use the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager
I created a new iPhoto Library on the iMac and dragged the entire iPhoto Library from the MacBook into that new Library. It worked, however it all came over into one big album and my previous album structure was gone
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.

  • HT1329 My computer has crashed totally. I have a new computer and on downloading itunes my library populated but with hundreds of songs missing. My library and itouch are out of sync with more songs on my itouch is there a way to resolve this situation?

My computer has totally crashed with my latest itunes library.  I have a new computer and on downloading itunes my library automatically populated but there are hundreds of songs missing and multiple duplicates.  So now my itouch is up to date but my itunes library has regressed to an earlier version so if I sync I will lose hundreds of songs from my itouch is there any way to sync my itouch to my itunes library?

  • How do I create a final congratulations page with multi sco packager?

Using multi scorm packager with a bunch of projects. Most of them have their own quizzes. When I complete each module, they get reported as complete to the LMS.
I'm using SCORM cloud to test, and I want it so that when every thing has been completed, the user sees or has access to a final page which basically says congratulations and shows a certificate of completion or something.
As it stands it's not obvious when a user has passed the course.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

That's not tracked in Captivate, only in the LMS.  So you'd need to develop custom coding that interrogates the LMS to get the aggregated scoring information.  Captivate isn't designed to do that.
As for the sequencing rules, that's also not something you can do within Captivate or the Multi-SCORM Packager tool.  However, if you Google for information about SCORM sequencing rules there's plenty of information about the way to write them into the imsmanifest.xml file manually.

  • Need some help with a split package

Basically, I'd like to have some code in my PKGBUILD that will append some extra info to the package name based on a file the user defined.  This is for kernel26-ck and the file I speak of is the .config he/she makes.  Below is the code that doesn't work and I think it doesn't work because the name of the package is the name of the package_name() {} function and both of of these have to match the pkgname array.  What I want is to have the pkgname array get generated dynamically based on the code below which starts before the make command in the build section.  Advise is appreciated.  Is what I'm asking for possible?

    ## MAKEMENUCONFIG OPTION
    # Allow you to select additional kernel options prior to a build via a menuconfig.
    ## STREAMLINE_CONFIG OPTION
    # Similar to a make localmodconfig but this actually works!
    # WARNING - make CERTAIN that all modules are modprobed BEFORE you begin making the pkg!
    # read, https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=830221#p830221
    # to keep track of which modules are needed for your specific system/hardware, give my module_db script.

    ## USE CURRENT KERNEL'S .CONFIG
    # Enabling this option will use the .config of the RUNNING kernel rather than the ARCH defaults.
    # Useful when the package gets updated and you already went through the trouble of customizing your
    # config options. NOT recommended when a new kernel is released, but again, convenient for package bumps.

@Allan - can you see any other potential down sides of implementing the patch suggested by nous?  What about dependency issues?  For example, nvidia-ck depends on kernel26-ck, not kernel26-ck-core2.  Perhaps circumvent this with a provides=('kernel26-ck-headers') for headers and provides=('kernel26-ck') for the main package?

Is kindle not available for download in certain countries? whats going on here?

You haven't mentioned which version of PSE. If it is PSE 13, that requires a minimum of windows 7.

But when I get to Venezuela and introduce NANO-Sim in a line to use the phone here just does not respond to the network ... None of the 3 phone lines we handle here ...
    It is a 64G IPhone 5 ...
Regardless, it is not a matter of carrier locking.  Verizon iPhone 5 phones were never GSM sim-locked to begin with.  Every iPhone Verizon has sold since the introduction of the iPhone 5 has been sold with an unlocked GSM slot, as required in the USA by their agreement with the FCC.  They have not been allowed to sell any iPhone 5, iPhone 5c nor iPhone 5s devices with GSM carrier locking in place.
Your connection problems are from some other cause - it is NOT a carrier locking issue.

  • I purchased an used iPod nano 4th with many many songs on it,but when i hooked the usb cable to try and change the name, something went wrong.i had to reset it,thinking my music would still be there, but i lost everything! Is there any way to get these back

I purchased an used iPod Nano 4th.with many, many, many songs and albums on it,but when i plugged the usb cable into my laptop(i am a new comer to computer) i thought i was changing the name and thought i was syncing but something went wrong and everything was gone! is there any way possible to get these back? Please I need Help!!! Thank you!

Was the music purchased via your iTunes account and/or did you buy it from other sources or copy it from your own CDs, or did the music belong to the previous owner ? If the music was yours then you can sync it back to the iPod via your computer's iTunes. If the music is not still on your computer then have you got a backup of it ? If not then for iTunes purchases you might be able to re-download it depending on which country you are in. If the music was put on the iPod by the previous owner then you will need to buy your own copies of it.

That is the point of a beta version.
Software in the beta phase will generally have many more bugs in it than completed software, as well as speed/performance issues. The focus of beta testing is reducing impacts to users, often incorporating usability testing. "

  • Sync with my desktop, but still connect to my notebook for Charge/Tether?

I Sync my iPhone 4s with my desktop computer.  Can I still connect it to my Notebook with iTunes on it, and NOT have it sync?  The only reason I want to connect it is to use my Verizon Personal Hotspot tethered, and for charging.
I don't want to connect it and screw up everything that is workinig good now, but I need to travel this weekend, and want to charge and tether.
Is it as simple as just not opening iTunes on the notebook?

To be clearer. I get a message saying that the machine is not authorised (although I know it is) then I choose authorise and type in the correct apple ID etc and then get a message saying that the computer is already authorised. When I click OK on that I start all over again!
