OEL support within VirtualBox

Hi,
We were wondering, we have an x4170 server with Oracle Premier support. Oracle Enterprise Linux and Solaris are supported. We currently run Solaris as the host OS, and we're wondering if a guest Oracle Enterprise Linux OS would be supported while running within VirtualBox? Or put simply, does being a guest OS invalidate support for said OS, which is in this case OEL?
Cheers,
Tyler

Thanks again for the reply.
In all truth, aren't they the same? Just trademarks switched around, etc? If its not certified, though, then we are forced into it.
I was just following your blog post about OEL 5.3 with oracle database. I downloaded oracle database 11.2 onto OEL 5.3 on x4170, but when I brought up the installer, it was insanely slow. It took like 2 minutes to enter email address and password, and the next button disappeared and wouldn't reappear so I couldn't go any further (JRE related????). I then ran top, java was using 100 to 200% cpu, the graphics server was 70 to 90% cpu, etc. I was wondering if our problems would go away with another os that would allow us to update packages for free. But even on your blog, did you run up2date before installing oracle database?
Or perhaps its safe for us to upgrade to OEL 5.5? Redhat only certifies the x4170 server to OEL 5.3, though. I suppose I'll try OEL 5.5 tomorrow while we wait and see if we can't get a ULN csi (our local reps don't seem to have their act together due to the sun to oracle transition, we're part of a university as well so we may have a site license for it--fingers crossed).
Cheers,
Tyler

  • Use native ArchLinux within VirtualBox - X Server Problems

    Hi everyone!
I followed the Wiki Entry here:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Vi … ical_Drive
to use the natively installed Arch within a VirtualBox on Win 7.
So far, I can boot into Archlinux - but the XServer cannot start, because there are some Errors, that the XServer failed to load the NVIDIA Modules.
The Wiki entry also mentions this kind of Problem and suggests a solution to use a second xorg.conf for usage with the VirtualBox.
But right now I do not really have an idea how to load an individual xorg.conf?
And how this xorg.conf should look to use the VirtualBox graphics card?
ArchLinux is installed on a Notebook with a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 3100M and I'm using the proprietary NVIDIA drivers (if I boot natively in Arch, which works fine).
Also I would be grateful for any other solution, if someone has successfully started a natively installed Arch in VirtualBox and has the proprietary NVIDIA driver installed.
    Thanks in advance!
    Kind regards

    Hello everyone!
There was a NVIDIA specific xorg config file I forgot which was needed for brightness control. I renamed the file and then it was possible to start the X-Server within VirtualBox. But there seems to be a problem with the VirtualBox 3d support and the NVIDIA drivers (eventually due to libgl?). I switched to Nouveau then and everything works fine. I can use 3d support in both cases, VirtualBox and native (I unfortunately need the 3d support for Gnomeshell...).
But personally, I would prefer the NVIDIA Driver, because of the power control facilities which Nouveau lacks right now.
Does somebody know a way to use the NVIDIA Driver an has 3d support within VirtualBox?
    Thanks in advance!
    Kind regards!

I'm running LR 4.4.  Just picked up a Sony RX100 M3 cam. It's RAW files are not supported within my version. Is there a free update still available for my version or do I need to purchase an upgrade to LR 5?

Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
The Sony RX100 III was first supported in Lightroom 5.5.
There will be no updates for older versions.
    So your choices:
    Upgrade to Lightroom 5, or
Download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all Raw files from the RX100 III to DNG format then edit the DNGs in Lightroom 4.4

  • Does OEL support on Oracle10gR2?

    Hi All,
Can any one suggest me which version of Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) support for ORacle 10gR2? I go through the oracle document library for Linux 64 bit but don't find any details about OEL? OEL 5 update 2 is support on Oracle 11g.
Any one having any idea about its support or not/ or find any link about which version of Oracle support on OEL then please inform me here.
    Thanks...

Yes It will support for both 32 bit and 64 bit
64 bit for OEL , here you should download OEL 64 bit from http://edelivery.oracle.com/

  • MTRRs error on installing esxi5.5 within virtualbox

    Hi Guys,
I encountered an MTRRs error while I was trying to install esxi 5.5 within a VirtualBox (ver 4.3.20) which runs on CentOS 6.6.
    The vbox settings are:
            Type: Linux
            Version: Linux 2.6/3.x (64bit)
            RAM: 4096MB
            CPU: 2core
The iso was bootable, but hanged with purple screen and mentioned about: No variable MTTRs: assuming ESX is running in a VM.
How can I get rid of the problem? Thank you!

I suspect that the issue is an unimplemented MSR in VirtualBox--one that should be available on the CPU in your CentOS machine, but not on the CPU in your Ubuntu machine.
If that's the case, the two solutions that come to mind are (1) configuring VirtualBox to ignore unimplemented MSRs or (2) configuring VirtualBox to report a different CPU model, that doesn't support the MSR in question.  Based on the PSOD, I'm guessing that the MSR is 130H, CPUID1_FEATURE_MASK, described in http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/application-notes/virtualization-technology-flexmigration-application-note.pdf.
If you boot ESXi with the additional vmkernel option "vmbASLR=FALSE" and post an image of the PSOD, I can confirm my guess.

  • Nomachine NX/FreeNX, can't get 3D accelearation support for Virtualbox

    Greetings to everyone!
I have a problem, which hopefuly someone knows how to solve?
I've installed everything I needed for one small headless testing server based on Arch linux (x64, kernel 2.6.32 and X.Org X Server 1.7.3.902 (1.7.4 RC 2)), and have setup only basic stuff and services (I've attached rc.conf file)
In addition I've setup also a desktop enviroment based on LXDE (in case of problems but it's stared manualy only when need and by NXclient or ssh -X), NVIDIA drivers (v. 190.53), VirtualBox 3.1.2 and VMWare Server 2.0.2 (x64).
When I'm working directly on computer everything is working just fine and I have support for hardware acceleration in Virtualbox, but when I try to use it from remote location (eg. using NX client, or using X forwarding over SSH), I can't get access to 3D features of VirtualBox (3D acceleration and 2D acceleration buttons are greyed out!), also when I try to access NVIDIA settings panel it says "You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server." Well I'm pretty sure I have drivers installed, but is there any chance they are badly configured?
I really Arch linux and would like use it as my main distro and really would like if someone can help me find a solution for this problem, (especially knowing that the same things IS working on my second and much older computer based on Intel Pentium 4 (2.0 Ghz), ASUS P4B533 Asus GF4 MX440 graphic card Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS), and that it's a bit frustrating
The newer computer is based on AMD Athlon II X2 240, Gigabyte MA770-UD3, and Gigabyte 7300GS graphic card.
I've tried so many tutorials, many found on this forum, tried with different GUI (KDE, GNOME, LXDE) in case i "skipped" something and nothing helped me..
Checked everything (I know) twice and even more, but no success.
Is there some way to use hardware acceleration over remote sessions , am I missing something or is "the resistance futile" ?
I'm sending my rc.conf, xorg.conf file, so if someone has more expirience with it?
    Thank you.

Greetings to you all from Zagreb (Croatia)

The thing is I don't have any problem when I'm working in front of computer, only when using remote sessions (like NX, VNC, etc.).
I can install additions, but I can't select 3D acceleration checkbox (it is disabled - grayed out) in Virtualbox, or use any graphic hardware advanced feature on computer when I'm using remote session, but it's enabled when using local session.
Even when I try (when connected over NX) commands like glxinfo | grep render
it says something like "not using direct rendering", looks like it's not even using nvidia driver, output show mesa driver is in use?
Could it be something with remote access, remote access rights or something like that?
During installations was following mostly tutorials from Arch Wiki.
Maybe I missconfigured something, or didn't configured at all?

  • SQL function support within cfquery

Are all SQL statements supported by <cfquery>?
I'm tring to use FORMAT() with no luck.
    p.s. using MySQL db

I am doing simple math within a query of query.
    Specifically:
    <cfquery dbtype="query" name="qClubRecord">
    SELECT
    SUM(WIN) AS WINS,
    SUM(LOSS) AS LOSSES,
    SUM(TIE) AS TIES,
    SUM(WIN)/(SUM(WIN) + SUM(LOSS) + SUM(TIE)) AS WIN_PERCENTAGE
    FROM
    qGetRecords
    </cfquery>
    This works.
My problem arises when displaying. I would like to show only 2 decimal places.
    Now, I'm using <cfgrid> with format="html", so I can't use numberFormat.
I should be able to solve this problem within SQL. After a quick look I found the FORMAT() statement.
Works as advertised from the command line, but incorporating into <cfquery> fails (whether QoQ or not).
    So I'm stuck.
    <cfquery dbtype="query" name="qClubRecord">
    SELECT
    SUM(WIN) AS WINS,
    SUM(LOSS) AS LOSSES,
    SUM(TIE) AS TIES,
    FORMAT(SUM(WIN)/(SUM(WIN) + SUM(LOSS) + SUM(TIE)),2) AS WIN_PERCENTAGE
    FROM
    qGetRecords
    </cfquery>
    Thank you both for answering.

  • How many sensors BAM supports within a process?

    Hello everyone
I'm somewhat new to BAM, I'm doing my integration with BPEL 10.1.3.4 & BAM and I want to know if supports introducing a sensor for each of the PartnerLink's invoking of the process.
Currently in my process have 3 PartnerLink's, two of them are within the scope and one of them outside the scope.
The sensors are of type activity
The point is that, I failed to do is shoot the 3 sensors for the process, only considers one or the other but not 3.
    Thanks and regards

    The answwer:
Mark sensor like "insert" not "upsert".

  • Increased Object Type support within Data Modeler

    Hi,
This is a question mainly for the Data Modeler Development Team as well as the Tools group. First of all, the production version of Data Modeler 3.0 is very nice and the improvements in the DataTypes area over what was in EA1 are great. Thanks for adding the Domain support to the definition of Attributes and Parameters for Methods, that makes life much simpler and opens the door for a much wider range of object type modeling and ease of implementations since consistency can now be maintained much easier via Domains. Also the support for straightening of lines is awesome. This is the best implementation I have seen, even better that what we had in the Design Editor in Oracle Designer, kudos again to the team that built the diagrammer interfaces.
My question is, Going forward will Data Modeler continued to be enhanced to finally fully support Oracle Objects and the object relational (OR) model? I ask this because as users of Oracle's RDBMS, we do not have a tool that allows us to fully model and implement the features provided by the Server Group in the area of Object-Relational features and functionality. Oracle Designer had some OR modeling capability, but the end of life on product stopped all further development. One of the common excuses is there is no market demand for object - relational modeling. I would argue, that the lack of market demand for object - relational applications is because we have never have had a tool that fully supports Oracle's object - relational model. Nor do have we had a development tool that allows us to implement a fully developed Oracle Object - Relational model. The tools group stopped the development of Oracle Forms support for nested objects and collections. The LOV functionality for REF columns is pretty awesome, but we can't get to nested collections much less a nested collection of REFs.
So as a member of the end user community, we are stuck in this Catch 22. The Server Group continues to support and enhance the Object - Relational model, but the Tools and Modeling Groups haven't kept up with the tools to model or implement the functionality and features supported by the database. As a result we have a partially built set of tools that allows us to scratch the surface of the Object - Relational model but are not able to take full advantage of the powerful features of inheritance, inherited and extended collections, the ability to inherit and then extend methods, etc...
The Object - Relational model was introduced with Oracle8, 10g solved the type evolution problem which made production implementation of object types realistic. My question is; Is Data Modeler finally going to fully support Oracle's object - relational model? If we as the end user community finally get a tool that does fully support the OR model, we'll finally be able to model, build and deploy applications that will in turn create that market demand which is lacking for the object relational model.
    Thanks in advance,
    ScottK

    Phil,
Yes, having the ability to include an attribute from an data type as part of the PK, UK and or index will be very, very nice. Doing that opens a number of doors on the design, modeling and implementation sides. It would allow us to model and then create a data type which has all the common attributes for housekeeping information within each entity -> table. This is something we tried to do with Designer but was pretty involved script wise. By being able to create specialized housekeeping datatypes and then using the 'add attribute' with the scripts provided with DM 3.0, it simplifies the model after the fact. Think about it, we'll be able to have a datatype with all the attributes for created on/by and modified on/by along will all the methods to populate those attributes (formerly columns), then we can include that datatype into the entity as an attribute called say, 'row_audit' with the datatype of 'common_'. Now in one pass we have the place to hold the information of who created and modified the row as well as the date and time along with all the code required to populate and maintain that information. Everything modeled, defined and written in one place. No more have to include or write the pl/sql across several different modules, rather the calls to the method, a constructor, are within the insert or update statements for that table. If we take that train of thought and extend it to include the housekeeping functions for relational primary keys, then we can create one datatype with the attribute and methods to create a single column primary key. Once that is pulled into an entity, defined as the part of the unique identifier and then pushed down as a primary key and resulting foreign keys. We have all the code to enforce and populate primary and foreign keys wrapped up in one datatype with its supporting method as a constructor. Think of the other possibilities that would be available once we can include nested attributes w/i keys and indexes. It makes some models and designs much simpler, more maintainable, more scalable (less code to execute), etc...
I have been thinking about this. I see ya'll have provided the options for IN, OUT, IN/OUT, COPY and NOCOPY as modifiers for the parameters on methods. We also have the option for COPY / NOCOPY in the constructor method for type. Will that be included?
Lastly, since the Server Group solved the type evolution problem, that coupled with the ability to include a datatype as a definition for column really opens the design doors. For example, by using a datatype of 'common_', as mentioned above, if the system requirement appears after the system is built for a the name of the source system to be included with the 'row_audit' information, we can modify the datatype 'common_' to include these new attributes and methods and then the ALTER TYPE syntax provided by the Server and Language groups to effectively extend all the tables to include this new system requirement. Till the Server group solved the type evolution problem, this wasn't possible and we had to write several 'alter table add column' scripts. This is all replaced with the ALTER TYPE... cascade data command now. Once DM 3.0 includes the ability to reference embedded attributes, design and modeling life will be great.
    Thanks in advance,
    ScottK

    Hi there,
I'm havin a strange issue since a few weeks. I'm running ArchLinux as a guest in VirtualBox with Windows 7 as a host. It's my working computer in the office and here's the problem:
I can't access the ArchLinux AUR/BBS/WIKI sites from within my virtual macine. Therefore I can't use yaourt, which is a problem for me. If I try to open the sites in the browser I get a timeout. And if I try to wget aur.archlinux.org I get no output after it says "connected". Pinging works fine. And I have no problems at all with my Windows host machine. Could you help me finding the cause of the problem? Where should I look for an error message? I'm looking forward to your answers. Thanks in advance.

First of all thank you for your reply and excuse me for answering so late. The holidays came in between ;-) So here we go:

  • Any possibility of NIO support within JavaMail

    Hi Bill,
I know you stated somewhere that the goal of Javamail is simplicity more than robustness. But I'm creating a java process that polls thousands (up to about 10,000) of IMAP folders every half hour to fetch the latest messages.
I basically open and close a session for each IMAP account every half hour to fetch the mail. I was thinking that this could be much less resource intensive if the low level IMAP network calls could be made using NIO. If any NIO support isn't on your roadmap, do you have any other suggestions? I saw the recent post about EventQueues, which was very informative, but I'm guessing I wouldn't really want to have thousands of IDLE connections open?
    Thanks,
    Rom

I've never seen Adobe offer to give anyone the FLA file for the scorm-support.swf (if it was even an FLA that created it).  So I wouldn't get my hopes up about being able to obtain it to modify it. This file is essential to the communication between the Captivate SCORMs and your LMS.  Any changes to it might introduce issues that are worse than the inconveniences you're currently trying to work around.
A Captivate module can be configured to give the learner a given number of attempts at the quiz it contains, but as soon as the Captivate module is relaunched, these attempts basically are reset and the same learner could attempt it another several times.  So if you really want to limit the user to a given number of single attempts (e.g. three) at the quiz, then you need to control the number of allowed attempts within the LMS settings.
You set the Captivate lesson to only allow one attempt at the quiz, if the user fails, this failure gets reported to the LMS as a failed attempt and the user can only perform another attempt by relaunching the lesson.  When the learner has exhaused their allowed number of attempts, the LMS does not permit them to relaunch the lesson.  If your LMS has the ability to trigger notifications based on events (such as the user failing a quiz 3 times) then some higher up manager can be alerted to the fact that the employee needs to be called in for the 'personal briefing'.
So a lot of what you want to do actually needs to be done within the LMS, not just Captivate.
In Captivate Quizzes you can only choose the Reporting Status as either Complete/Incomplete or Pass/Fail and this is set under Quiz Preferences > Report Status.  Some LMSs don't even do Complete/Incomplete.  Apparently yours does. Either way, by definition, if you've set your reporting to Pass/Fail, when a module has been attempted but not passed, it's deemed to be failed.

  • [SOLVED]USB support in virtualbox guest OS

I have a Windows 7 64 bit guest in virtualbox
    [inxs ~ ]$ paclocs virtualbox
    local/virtualbox 4.0.8-4
Powerful x86 virtualization for enterprise as well as home use
    local/virtualbox-ext-oracle 4.0.8-1
    Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack
    [inxs ~ ]$
I also have the latest guest additions installed. I have been trying to get access to my iPod, so I can transfer some songs without having to boot into my Windows (the dual boot one). gtkpod does not recognize my iPod for some reason - but that's for another thread.
In any case, I found that not only the iPod, but I cannot access any usb flash drives either. I tried the filters, but that didn't work. So here's what I have tried so far :
I tried this post  and this thread : https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=50239 but neither option work for me.
This thread on virtualbox forums is the same problem I have but alas they don't have any solution.
And finally this doesnt help either
They are all basically minor variations of the same solution.
    Here are my details:
    [inxs ~ ]$ cat /proc/bus/usb/devices
    T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=03 Cnt=01 Dev#= 3 Spd=480 MxCh= 0

    [inxs ~ ]$ groups
lp wheel video audio optical storage power users vboxusers
    [inxs ~ ]$
So as you can see the usb drive is on bus 01, device 03, and ls of that device shows that it belongs to vboxusers group and my user belongs to that group
    [inxs ~ ]$ grep vboxusers /etc/group
    vboxusers:x:108:inxs
    [inxs ~ ]$
So the devgid is 108, but none of the lines suggested in the linked threads in fstab work for me
I do not have a group called usb, but I have one called usbmux -- Is that the devgid that I have to use?My user does not belong to that group.
    [inxs ~ ]$ grep usb /etc/group

I am not sure what exactly you mean by classes, but I tried 2 different usb keys, an iPod and a portable usb HDD and a Logitech webcam
ewaller wrote:Do the devices show up in the VB USB device menu ?
    Are they enabled or grayed?
Yes they do show up in the VB USB device menu and they are all enabled. When I select them to allow the guest to access them, Windows 7 tried to install the driver, but then invariably fails no matter how many times I try.
ewaller wrote:Some of the links indicated the devices are allocated to VM, but show up as unknown devices -- Is that what you are seeing?
    Nope. See above.

  • When will XML be supported within the kernel

Before the release of Oracle 9i, I heared that XML support be planned to reside in the kernel, i.e., will be programmed in c and can be used w/o the Java VM in the DB. Also, the "Oracle9i XML API Reference - XDK and Oracle XML DB" documentation for Oracle 9.2 states,
that 9.2 introduces "C-Based PL/SQL DOM, Parser, and XSLT APIs integrated in the database code".
However, the xmlparser package still depends on xmlparsercover with it's "is language java" implementations. Nothing against Java, but we have databases w/o java and it's quite hard to install it during production.
Is this re-implementation in the kernel still planned, just cancelled or was it never planned ?

    Hello,
I am the technical lead for SES/Search Framework with PeopleSoft.  You will continue to be supported for the delivered DB version with the Single appliance install of SES (Install option #1)  as long as you are on a supported version of PeopleSoft.  I hope this helps as there is no plan to certify SEs with 12 c at this time.
E-SES: For PeopleSoft Environments, Which Install Option Should We Choose? (Doc ID 1616429.1)
If you choose to install to an existing DB then you will have to license the DB and the same does not apply.  Please review the above Km doc discussing the install option.

  • Failed to run X within VirtualBox.

    I followed the instructions at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Be … ure_pacman and https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Vi … nux_guests
to install the ArchLinux 2012.11.01 in VirtualBox (v4.2.4).  My host OS is Windows XP.
After installing the base system, I tried to configure X. But 'startx' failed and I found following error messages in the /var/log/Xorg.0.log:
AIGLX error: vboxvideo does not export required DRI extension
    AIGIX: reverting to software rendering
Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
    Thanks

Boying Lu wrote:How to start a plain X?
Remove any .xinitrc or .xsession from your home directory, and then do startx. That should give you a vanilla twm session with the clock and three xterms on a grey background. Ugly, but it works.

  • Oracle within VirtualBox

    Hello everyone,
I'm trying to install Oracle 10g on VirtualBox. I need a 10g database on which I can make some tests.
Basically, I have 2 different VirtualBox. One with the database and one with SQLDeveloper.
The database is correctly installed. I know it because I can successfully connect to the database when I'm on the same virtual machine than the databse:
    [oracle@poney ~]$ pwd
    /home/oracle
    [oracle@poney ~]$ sqlplus scott/oracle
    SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on Thu Feb 17 21:11:17 2011

    Connected to:
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
With the Partitioning, OLAP and Data Mining options
    SQL> select * from dual;
    D
    X
SQL> Ok, now, I'm trying from the other virtual machine. I can ping the first machine:
    [user@localhost tools]$ ping 192.168.10.10

[user@localhost tools]$ But, when I try to connect using SQLDeveloper, I recieve the exception "The network adapter could not establish the connection".
My listener.ora file is like this:
    # listener.ora Network Configuration File: /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/network/admin/listener.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

      (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
        (DESCRIPTION =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1))
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost.localdomain)(PORT = 1521))
)I don't know what I've done wrong... Anyone can help me with this?
    Thanks

'LOCALHOST' means what the name indicates. Do you have a tnsnames.ora on the sqldeveloper box? If yes does it also point to localhost as hostname?
When the listener runs on box A and sqldeveloper on box B, for sqldeveloper localhost is its box - and NOT the listener/database box.
