OEM 2.2/Failsafe/NT Clusters

Ok, I have NT Clusters set up with Oracle and Oracle FailSafe (don't ask why I did it this way, when the government says jump, we contractors say how high) with a single database. I can connect to this database via OEM no problem. However, I cannot perform any jobs as the virtual server (ie, the cluster node) is not running an Oracle Intelligent Agent.
Is there a way to configure OEM to run jobs against this clustered database?

Hello Serge,
You need to check your tnsnames.ora file. You need to very that the service name you are using on the NT client is really connecting you to the linux server.
The Oracle docs cover how to set it up.

Also do a search for Jesus M. Salvo's how to on setting it all up. He is on the OTN check back about 2 months or so.

1.add OFS group name mapping VIP in DNS
2.add VIP in MSCS manager
3.delete VIP in OFS manager
4.add VIP in OFS manager

Installing the OEM Agent on an AIX Clustered Environment

I have installed the OEM 10.2.0.5 agent on a server (sgramchdd50) that is part of an AIX HACMP cluster configuration. The other node of this cluster is sgramchdd51 and the cluster name is sgramchdd52. After installing the agent the server name sgramchdd50 is hard-coded into the the $AGENT_HOME/sysman/config/emd.properties file as follows....

The problem is that when we failover to the other node (sgramchdd51) the agent no longer works because the inactive node is hard-coded in certain places. I need to hardcode the cluster name as it is always pointing at the active node in the cluster. I have tried the following (with no success)...
-Stopped the agent
-Modified the EMD_URL parameter of the emd.properties file as follows
-EMD_URL=https://sgramchdd52:3872/emd/main/
-Started the agent
However, starting the agent fails.

I think you should try to find the solution in your DNS.
So lets say you name your node "MyActiveNode", your DNS only need to be modified to point to a different IP when failing over. The for the Agent it is still "logically" running on the same node.
Same thing if you should use a Server Load Balancer, use the name of the SLB to configure the Agent.

Target operation is unavailable: cleanup of previous target with the same n

In OEM 12c I have several clusters. For one, from the console I deleted the cluster and then manually added the cluster target back. The operation was successful but for one of the high availability (has) services a metric collection error is displayed. For that particular target the EMDIAG output reports -
Target operation is unavailable: cleanup of previous target with the same name is still pending
I have not been able to find an explanation of that nor how to resolve it. Can anyone assist me?

You can remove the target from monitoring and add it again, that can solve the problem.

Problem with starting OEM-agent on NT (clustered)

We have problem with starting the OEM-agent (9i) on Windows 2000. The Nt-server is clustered.
I have started the OracleAgent by the service screen. Everyting looks ok.
But, from the server where the OEM-console is installed I can't contact the
agent.
I stopped then the agent and started it by typing;
d:\oracle\ora92\bin\agntsrvc.exe
Than i get the error:
StartServiceCtrlDispatcher Failed with err 1063
Anyone an idea?

Explanation
1. CRS 와 10g REAL APPLICATION CLUSTERS
CRS (Cluster Ready Services)는 10g Real Application Cluster의 새로운 기능으로,
모든 플랫폼에 대해 표준화된 클러스터 인터페이스를 제공 해 주고, 이전 버전에서는 없었던
새로운 고가용 서비스를 제공해 준다.
2. CRS 핵심 기능
CRS와 10g RAC를 설치하기 전에, CRS및 10g RAC에 대해 사전에 알아 두어야 할 사항이 있다 :
- 10g RAC를 설치를 위해서는 CRS는 사전에 설치 되고 실행되어야 한다.
- CRS는 하드웨어 공급 업체에서 제공하는 클러스터 제품 (예 : Sun Cluster,
HP Serviceguard, IBM HACMP, TruCluster, Veritas Cluster, Fujitsu Primecluster,
기타 ...) 위에서 실행 될 수도 있고, 하드웨어 공급 업체에서 제공하는 클러스터 제품
없이도 실행될 수 있다. 하드웨어 업체에서 공급하는 클러스터 제품은 9i RAC까지는 반드시
필요했지만, 10g RAC에서는 선택 사항이다.
- CRS HOME 과 ORACLE_HOME 은 반드시 다른 디렉토리에 설치 되어야 한다.
- CRS를 설치하기 전에, voting 파일 또는 OCR (Oracle Configuration Repository) 파일을
설치 할 수 있는 공유된 디렉토리 또는 디바이스가 셋업되어야 한다. voting file은 최소 20MB 정도
크기이며, OCR 파일은, 최소 100MB 크기가 되어야 한다.
- CRS 및 RAC를 설치하기 위해서는 다음과 같은 네트워크 인터페이스가 구성되어야 한다 :
- Public Interface
- Private Interface
- Virtual (Public) Interface
관련된 추가적인 정보는 <Bulletin No: 22345> 참조.
- CRS 설치 후 root.sh를 실행시키면 CRS 서비스를 구동시킨다. 만약 CRS가 정상적으로
구동되지 않는다면, Note 240001.1 참조.
- RAC 노드당 1개의 CRS 데모만 실행 가능.
- 유닉스 시스템의 경우, CRS 서비스는 /etc/inittab 상의 ‘respawn’ entry로 등록되어 있다.
- 네트워크 split이 있을 경우 (노드간 통신 두절) data corruption을 방지 하기 위해 하나
또는 그 이상의 노드에서 리부팅이 발생할 수 있다.
- CRS 서비스를 구동시키는 올바른 방법은 장비를 부팅시키는 것이다.
- 서비스를 중단시키는 올바른 방법은, 장비를 shutdown 시키거나, "init.crs stop" 명령을
실행시키는 것이다.
- CRS 데몬을 kill 시키는 것은 올바른 방법이 아니며, 오직 설치된 CRS를 제거한 경우에만
적용해도 되는 방법이다. (Bulletin No: 22343 참조) 이것은 , 플래그 파일에 불일치가 발생 할
수 있기 때문이다.
- 시스템 유지 보수를 위해서는, OS를 단일 사용자 모드 (single user mode)로 전환한다.
서비스 스택이 구동되면, ps -ef 명령으로 관련된 데몬 프로세스를 확인 할 수 있다 :

3. CRS DAEMON 기능

- 애플리케이션 자원 구동/정지/점검 하기 위한 별도의 'actions'을 spawn
- OCR(Oracle Configuration Repository)의 구성 프로파일 관리
- OCR의 현재 알려진 상태를 저장
- root 권한으로 실행
- 장애 발생시 자동으로 재 구동됨
OCSSD:
- OCSSD는 RAC의 일부로, ASM과 함께 단일 인스턴스를 구성함
- 노드 멤버쉽에 대한 액세스를 제공
- 그룹 서비스 제공
- 기본적인 클러스터 lock 기능 제공
- 하드웨어 공급 업체에서 제공하는 클러스터 소프트웨어가 설치되어 있을 경우, 통합을 실시
- 하드웨어 공급 업체에서 제공하는 클러스터 소프트웨어 없이도 실행 가능
- 오라클 계정으로 실행
- 장애로 인한 종료시 시스템 리부팅됨

EVMD:
- 특정한 사건 발생 시 이벤트 생성
- 자식 프로세스로 evmlogger를 spawn 시킴
- Evmlogger는 필요시 자식 프로세스를 spawn 시킴
- callout directory를 스캔하고 callout을 호출
- 오라클 계정으로 실행.
- 장애로 인한 종료시 자동으로 재 구동됨
4. CRS 로그 디렉토리
CRS 문제의 원인을 추적할 때는, CRS 홈 디렉토리 아래 디렉토리를 살펴보는 것이
중요하다.
$ORA_CRS_HOME/crs/log - 이 디렉토리는, CRS 자원들에 대한 트레이스를 포함하며,
CRS에 의해 식별된 가입(joining), 탈퇴(leaving), 재구동(restarting), 재배치(relocating)와
관련된 정보들이 기록된다.
$ORA_CRS_HOME/crs/init - crsd.bin 데몬과 관련된 모든 core dump가 기록된다.
$ORA_CRS_HOME/css/log - css 로그는, 재구성(reconfiguration)이나, 성공하지
못한 체크인 (missed checkin), 클라이언트의 css listener로 부터 발생한 연결(connect) 및
연결해제(disconnect)와 관련된 모든 액션을 기록한다. 때에 따라서는 로거에서는 (auth.crit)
유형의 메시지를 남기는데 이것은 오라클에 의해 리부팅이 발생할 때 남는다. 이 정보는
리부팅이 정확히 언제 발생했는지를 확인하는데 사용될 수 있다.
$ORA_CRS_HOME/css/init - 기본적으로는 ocssd로 부터의 core dump 파일을 저장하며, 프로세스의
종료가 심각한 문제로 간주되는 css 데몬의 pid 정보 또한 기록된다. css의 비정상 재 구동이 발생할
경우, core 파일은, core.<pid> 형태로 기록된다.
$ORA_CRS_HOME/evm/log - evn과 evmlogger 데몬의 로그 파일이 기록된다. CRS 또는 CSS 관련 디렉토리
처럼 디버깅 용도로 자주 사용되지는 않는다.
$ORA_CRS_HOME/evm/init - EVM의 pid와 lock 파일이 저장된다. EVM으로 부터 발생한 core 파일 또한
이 디렉토리에 저장된다. 디버깅을 위해서는 Note 1812.1 참조.
$ORA_CRS_HOME/srvm/log - OCR을 위한 로그 파일.
5. CRS 자원의 상태
RAC를 설치하고, RAC root.sh을 실행시키면 VIPCA (Virtual IP Configuration Assistant)가
구동된다. crs_stat 명령을 이용하여 모든 CRS 자원을 확인할 수 있다. 예 :

OEM 10.2.0.5 Errors Monitoring Oracle 11g on RHEL 5.3 64-bit

Hi,
I am trying to setup a grid control box to monitor two 11gR1 databases on a RAC cluster. We have Oracle CRS for the clustering software and we are using OEM GC 10.2.0.5. I have cloned 10.2.0.5 agents from the OMS install and the hosts show up in OEM.
The listener shows as down in the EM console. The database shows down too with "Agent Connection to Instance" failed with ORA-12545. Connect failed because target host or object does not exist (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach).
My emagemt_perl.trc has the following:
has_metrics.pl: Wed Jan 27 23:38:01 2010: WARN: WARN:has::Common:: has::Common::hasGetSQLResults: Could not
connect.
I discovered the targets with the agent, when it was added to EM. I also set the dbsnmp password but I am still getting the error.

Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials Clustering

Dear,
I would like to know the features of Window Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials. I also want to know if this OS supports Clustering. I checked on Microsoft Website but there is no information regarding this OS.
I have WD Sentinel 4100 RX boxes.. Can I use these 2 boxes as a cluster? And if yes, can I configure it as Failover Cluster?

This OS can only be purchased as an OEM pre-installed 'device', so customisation options are minimal.
There is no clustering support for the Essentials feature set itself, even if you could cluster the underlying OS.
Without knowing your game plan, it is difficult to speculate, but you may be looking for a full storage server solution.

Oracle Clusterware and Oracle Real Application Clusters Install Guide

I've downloaded the latest "Oracle Database - Oracle Clusterware and Oracle Real Application Clusters Install Guide - 10g Release 2 (10.2) for HP-UX PA-RISC" (part no. B14202-01) dated August 2005 from OTN. I'm getting the following error when opening the pdf file in Adobe Reader:
"Cannot extract the embedded font 'PEPPLC+Palatino-Italic'. Some characters may not display or print properly."
When I print the manual, I get blank pages throughout the document which, in my opinion, should contain text and don't. Specifically pages 1-11, 2-5, 2-19, 2-24, 2-33, 3-5, 3-19 to name a few. When I go to those pages within the pdf file in Adobe Reader, I get the error: "There was a problem reading this document (114)."
Can you verify this problem on your end. Also, how do I get a good copy of this document?

Cluster Database Connect Works Only in stand-alone OEM

When I connect to OEM standalone, I can connect to the cluster database with no problem. When I try to connect with the management server, it gives me the ORA-12514 error. The service name works both in SQLplus and in stand-alone mode.
My console is running on a windows XP machine, the management server and OEM catalog are on a machine running 9.2, the cluster resides on two other machines running 9.2.
What do I need to change to get OEM to let me open the cluster database using the management server?

Try to create a service like this one and try:

Add Standby Server in OEM Grid.

Hi,
I need to add Standby Database in Oracle EM Grid.. it is 11g Emgrid.. Standby database 11.2.0.3 is one server another one server is in 10g.. i need to add both server to EM Grid... We didn't configure Dataguard Broker.. is there any way to configure without dataguard broker. i have tried in Primary server on emgrid on availability page for add standby link.. but it's not accepting sys password for standby.... Please Give me solution.. We need Sync alert between Primary and Standby through EM Grid

From your description I do not understand what you have (provide full version numbers not marketing labels for each one) and their operating systems. Also the full version of OEM Grid.
What edition do you have Standard or Enterprise?
Is the source database RAC or stand-alone?
Did you read any docs telling you how to configure the standby? Post a link so we know what you were trying to do.
And finally "it's not accepting" means what? That the server reboots? That it gives you an error message you didn't think important enough to post?
Here's what your post reads like to me:
I need to add a second car for my family .. it is a 2009 Honda. Standby car is a Subaru wagon. I need to have both. I didn't do anything with my insurance policy. I have tried to start the car but it doesn't start. Please give me a solution."

Which car? Is it out of gas or did you use the wrong key? How can we know if you don't tell us.
Please provide all of the information and we should be able to answer your question ... but for starters. Data Guard broker is only "required" for RAC clusters.

Configuring multiple web sites in a single OC4J instance with 10g OEM

Hi There,
there doesn't seem to be a way of configuring multiple web sites within a single OC4J instance using the 10g Enterprise Manager Website, so can i assume that there's some performance related issues with doing this, or is it just a case of if you want multiple web sites, configure it manually?
We currently use 9iAS release 1 (which has been configured to use multiple web sites - with normally 1 j2ee app in each website - in a single OC4J clustered instance, using mod_proxy to forward the http requests onto oc4j), but we are looking to migrate to 10g very soon...
The initial configuration was done by an external company, so i'm not entirely sure of the reasons why it was chosen (perhaps so that if there was a problem with a single website, it wouldn't impact all our applications)..
Does anybody else currently use multiple *-web-site.xml's in a 9iAS release 2 or 10g in a production environment, and if so did you encounter any problems with the OEM website (assuming you configured them manually)?

How to activate OEM in oracle 10G

Hi, I want to know how to activate oracle enterprise manager, not grid control. This is and old database in oracle 10g,
running in IBM server with OS AIX 5.3. It was unused, but now we need to execute some process in it, and I need a tool
to help with this process.
I got other databases in other server, but they are in clusters (RAC), with these DBs I don't have any problems,
when I go to ORACLE_HOME/bin I see emctl, but in the old db when I go to ORACLE_HOME/bin
I don't see emctl. My doubt is, how can I activate OEM in this DB? Do I need to download something?

OEM 12c unable ot discover Weblogic 10.0.1.0

I have OEM 12c grid installed and Agent 12c running on the remote host. I have weblogic 10.0.1.0 installed in the remote host. The agent is unable to discover the domain. It is failing with below error...
"Failed to discover WebLogic. Check host,port,credentials,protocol and be sure the server is running and the same farm is not already added. This UI can not be used to discover WebLogic version 7.x to 8.x. Exception: No targets discovered"
I can login to the console appication with the ip:port and credentials.. but failing while trying to discover thru the Grid Control.

I then created a empty doman on the same remote host for the same weblogic version. I was able to attch this one and not the other domain.
I am ruling out OM Grid Server - Agent connectivity issues, since the new empty domain I created can communicate to server.
I tried to check what is different between domains...
The WLD that has the issue is a clustered Domain , and has:
- 9 Managed Servers
- Not SSL enabled
- Many Application deployed
- JDBC connections
- has a custom build authentication provider for Authentication. But i made sure the user id is valid and even can login to the console.
** The new Domain is an empty one - no applications deployed.
Can you please help understand why I am not able to attach the domain?
