OEM 9i to 10g

Hi all ,
we want to monitor 9iR2 database from remote site with the help of OEM 10g. For that we have to migrate 9i OEM to 10g grid control. I have few questions regarding this :-----------
1. Is 10g database control can be used to monitor 9i databases.
2.Should we have to install 10g grid control on both the side that on server and remote PC.
3.By migrating 9i OEM to 10g grid control OEM is it any change occur at database 9i

Hi all ,
we want to monitor 9iR2 database from remote site
with the help of OEM 10g. For that we have to migrate
9i OEM to 10g grid control. I have few questions
regarding this :-----------
1. Is 10g database control can be used to monitor 9i
databases. You cannot use 10g Database Control. But you can use 10g Grid Control. There is difference between the two. 10g Database Control is only Standalone http version for the 10g Database.
However, you can install the Enterprise Manager 10g Java Console (equivalent to 9i oem in Standalone but with limited functionality) from the Client CD/Download to manager 9i Database.
2.Should we have to install 10g grid control on both
the side that on server and remote PC.As already mentioned, you do not install on both sides. You install Grid Control on one server, and then install the Management Agent on all servers that you want to manage there databases.
3.By migrating 9i OEM to 10g grid control OEM is it
any change occur at database 9i
No change is required on the database to achieve this. Hoever, you need to understand the architecture of Gird Control and ensure you understand the impact of having a Management Agent on the server connecting to the database and the additional load (CPU, Memory, Processes) required on the remote box. Also the security implications where you have firewalls etc.
Read your platform sepcific information from the Enterprise Manager Documentation Library.

  • OEM Grid control 10g on Linux

    Hello,
I have installed OEM grid control 10g and able to connect to the console via the sysman user id.
I am trying to configure email notification, but though I put all credentials properly I am not able to receive any emails.
I was looking at Oracle documentation and it says....
The SMTP server is the name of the mail server (for examplemail.acme.com).
For Linux, the SMTP server must be the local host name.Use the fully qualified host name (including domain
Does the smtp server need to on the localhost ? can't it work with a smtp server on a different host than the grid control box ?
Any advice will be much appreciated.
    S.

The smtp service doesn't need to be on the host you installed grid control, Grid control can use any smtp server as long as it can reach it.

  • OEM Grid Control 10g Deployment

    Hi,
We are planning to deploy OEM Grid Control 10g (with Diagnostics and Performance Management packs) for management and monitoring of following targets:
    Oracle Databases (9.2.x, 10.x) - 12
    Oracle Application Servers 10g - 6
OEM documentation states that for smaller deployments (targets < 100); following h/w specs would be sufficient:
    CPU: 1 (3GHz)
Memory: 4 GB (2GB for OMS, 2GB for OMR)
Disk Storage: 12 GB (2GB for OMS, 10GB for OMR)
    I want to know:
    i) Will that amount of disk storage will be sufficient?
ii) What would be the growth rate of OMR (Oracle Management Repository)?
iii) What other factors should be considered?
    All suggestions are welcome.
    Regards,
    Preet

    Hi Preet,
We had a 200+ (now 700+) target install in a major Telco and at that time
the repository database size was just 25 GB. So 10 GB for the database
itself should be ok. However sounds like you are crunched for space.
Bear in mind you need space for the installation of the EM10g OMS home,
the Agent Home and the Database home. So I dont think 12 GB is enough
for you. Try it out in test.

    Porus.

  • OEM in Oracle 10g

    Hi All,
I have installed oracle 10g on HP-UX 11.23 Itanium server. I have created two databases with different OS User. both databases are running very fine. But problem is that OEM for one of them is working and for other database OEM is not working. Both databases are in archival mode.

    hi
some problem i was face yesterday..
u want to manage 2nd db through OEM but ur not able to do so.
first what is ur db name 1st and 2nd...
and what is way u use to access OEM if u use OEM through webbrowser then what URL u give...
if u give http:/"host-name":5500/em/console --- this is for ur first db..
5500 is a oracle port to access db through OEM..
then u find out ur 2nd db port. for u do this cmd.
    u go cmd prompt
    cmd>set oracle_sid = "2nd db name"
    cmd>emctl status dbconsole
after enter this cmd. u will get URL AND PORT FOR UR 2nd database..
    good luck

  • Does OEM Grid Control 10g support monitoring Oracle Portal 10g?

    Dear expert,
It seems OEM GC 10g could monitor WebCenter, Weblogic portal and even Websphere portal, but I could not find any info for Oracle Portal. So,
    1.     Does OEM GC support to monitor Oracle Portal 10g? If not, does it support Oracle Portal 11g?
    2.     If does not support Oracle Portal, then is there any workaround for it? E.g. if it’s feasible through “web appliation”?
Any comment and docs are welcome.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Rob,
    Thanks for your help.
BTW, I have another question for your reply, that what do u mean by “You can use Oracle Enterprise Manager to monitor and manage OracleAS Portal”?
Do you mean OEM AS Console or OEM GC? Boz I only find these metrics from OEM AS Console, which mentioned in this doc. http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/em.102/b25987/oracle_portal.htm#CHDFJHDD
If these metrics only available in AS Console, then how to let the OEM send out email notification if critical threshold is over?
    Thank you.

  • How to activate OEM in oracle 10G

Hi, I want to know how to activate oracle enterprise manager, not grid control. This is and old database in oracle 10g,
running in IBM server with OS AIX 5.3. It was unused, but now we need to execute some process in it, and I need a tool
    to help with this process.
I got other databases in other server, but they are in clusters (RAC), with these DBs I don't have any problems,
when I go to ORACLE_HOME/bin I see emctl, but in the old db when I go to ORACLE_HOME/bin
I don't see emctl. My doubt is, how can I activate OEM in this DB? Do I need to download something?
    Thanks for your help.

regardsAfter installing 10 , you have the OEM Version same as oracle software. for production database you have to buy license for OEM to use.
    start and stop the DB-Console

    Hi,
By the way, If I use OEM GRID... Let's say we have 10 branches having each own distributed database on Linux, with
different database version (like 8i, 9i, 10g, 11g). And we are located at the Main Office. Is the ff. steps the way
    to manage them?ff steps means?
    1. Install OEM Grid at the Main Office (10.2.0.5). My Main Office version in on Windows XP PC. Is it ok? to manage
Linux servers using central Grid on Windows?Refer to the certification matrix in My Oracle Support website to find out if OEM is certified on XP or not (most probably not).
    2. Install OEM linux control agent at the 10 branchces which are on Linux.
    3. Each branches connect to Main Office via VPN like once a week, just to get/send updates. The above should be OK.
    Regards,
    Hussein

  • OEM 9i Supporting 10g Intelligent Agents

    Hello.
We currently use OEM 9.2.0.1 for monitoring and tracking of our 9i database instances. I want to add in our application server when we go live with iAS 9.0.4.1. We're currently running 1.0.2.2, which of course is well behind the times. Will the 10g iAS Intelligent Agent communicate with a 9i EM? If so, are there any limitations, or special considerations I need to take into account? Thanks.

    Nope. Totally different architectures.
