Oem 9i vs oem 10g (client-server)

Hi friends,
I run both my 9i and 10g OEM (client-server based) against/accessing/managing
an oracle 8i db. In 9i oem i can run TOP SESSION/TOP USERS stats
but in 10g oem its not available now.
Likewise in 9i oem i can add, delete, insert, update a row on any schema table
but in 10g oem its not avialable also. Why is this lose in functionality
happened please.
thanks :)

No, Kri...
Oracle10g introduced a brand-spanking new way of doing things. One OEM database control, reachable through one port, per 10g database instance. SID and other information hard coded right in the emctl routine used to start and stop the OEM engine.
To get at any other versions, you go through the Grid Control: set up an agent on the machine to be monitored, set up a central repository and a central grid control 'management server' and point your browser at the management server.
Or you go dual operation - the 9i OEM standalone console for 9i and lower and the web console for 10g and higher.

  • Having a problem accessing OEM 10g application server control console!

    Hi everyone,
I just installed AS 10g (10.1.2.0.2) Forms and Reports Services Standalone on a Windows 2003 machine. The installation went fine, the instance was created successfully.
I started all the services, when i try to access EM :
    http://fms-as.mathtechinc.com:18100. I get a blank screen.
I can get to the AS welcome screen by using http://fms-as.mathtechinc.com:80, but when I click on the link to log on to Oracle Enterprise Manger 10g Application Server Control. I still get a blank screen.
I checked the port numbers in port.ist.ini and the port for
    application server control port =18100.
I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
Thanks for your help in advance!

Thanks Jacco... now It is asking for the user name: and password. I do not remember assigning a user name. When I installed the AS, I created an
    instance name and isa_admin password.
I tried to use the instance name as the username it was not accepted.
    Thanks again!

  • Is OEM (gui client-server) gone in 11g client?

    Hi,
I installed 11g client (administrator) in my PC. I can not find the DB console which is available in 10g.
    Is it deprecated?
    thanks

    Hello,
Is there a simplier version of grid control? that can be intalled in my laptop only? and no need to alter the prod servers? In fact, you have 2 kind of "Oracle Enterprise Manager":
    - *1.* OEM Database Control (also called DB Console).
    - *2.* OEM Grid Control.
These 2 tools are mutually exclusive, you have to choose which one you prefer to use for monitoring the Databases.
The 1st one ( Database Control ) can be configured easily when you create the Database with DBCA or, you can configure it later by using EMCA. It's rather easy, afterwards you have no Client to instal, just an URL to know and a supported Web Browser.
The Database Control has a Repository on the Database (Schema SYSMAN) and uses some specific Directories on the Server side.
With the Database Control you can manage only one Database (i.e. you'll need one DB Console for each Database).
You'll find here a link about Database Control:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e17120/dbcontrol001.htm#ADMIN13402
The 2nd one ( Grid Control ) is a complete Application. You'll need a Server (with enough memory and disk) in which you'll create a specific Database for the Repository. You'll have to install the Web Logic layer, and Oracle Management Service ( OMS ). Eventually you'll have the Grid Control which is a true Application Server.
Afterwards, you'll have to install and deploy the Oracle Agent to each of your Servers so as to monitore all the Databases (the Targets).
It's a powerful tool, which can let you manage the Databases, the Servers and the Applications (even non-Oracle Application). But this is true it's not a simple installation.
However, you don't have any client side to install. From your Laptop, you'll have just to know the URL and have a supported Browser.
You'll find here some link about the installation of the Grid Control (11gR1):
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/oem/grid-control/overview/index.html
    http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/GridControl11gR1InstallationOnOEL5.php
I personnally like the following image:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11857_01/install.111/e16847/firewalls.htm#i1005951
NB: The URL is given at the end of the installation in both case.
    Hope this help.
    Best regards,
    Jean-Valentin

  • Change language in OEM 10g Application Server Control

Can anyone tell me, how I can change the current language (german) to english? The OS (Linux) is on english.

    I found the solution:
I have to change my local region-settings.
    Now it works!

  • Oracle 10g client for the old OEM

Does anyone know where I can download the Oracle 10g client for the old OEM software. There is a download link on technet but it when you follow it ...it turns into something else....!
    thanks
    3PO

I used to 10gR1 version to check out change manager. It was indeed buggy. It was quite easy to configure though and bear in mind, that it's here only for backward compatibility reason. This won't be available in the next versions.

  • OEM 10G

I have installed OEM 10g, and all was working great until today. I get Page Not Found when I try to open the console, so I checked for the service and it was not running. I tried to start the service, OracleDBConsoleorcl, and got an error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. I am using the version I downloaded from the web, and have made no changes since I first installed it and it was working. I am not using it for anything but my local installation right now, so have not installed the IAS with Grid Control. Do I need to do that even though I have not tried to connect to other Oracle server with OEM? Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Thanks for your reply
But I was not talking about Grid Control. I was talking about non-web based Oacle Enterprise Manager Consol 10g. If there is any configuration we need to do in order to get those information for sessions, which was available in 9i OEM?
I first want a non-web based OEM client because it is easy to use. Web based application (like grid control) are never so reliable and speedy (this is my opinion).
    Can anyone else help?
    Thanks.

  • Installing OEM 10g (10.2.0.1) Grid Control on Linux86

Do I need to install a "management agent" on this server, to be able to manage my EBS R12.1?
    Secondly....
I want to manage our EBS 11i which resides on another server (remote).
I downloaded the Linux_Grid_Control_agent_download_10_2_0_2_0.zip file from OTN,
and put it to the target server.
I unzip it following the readme.txt to the
    1. Download the Linux_Grid_Control_agent_download_10_2_0_2_0.zip file from OTN.
    2. Copy the downloaded file to <OMS_HOME>/sysman/agent_download/10.2.0.2.0 directory.(create <OMS_HOME>/sysman/agent_download/10.2.0.2.0 directory, if it doesn't exist.)

    4. <OMS_HOME>/bin/unzip Linux_Grid_Control_agent_download_10_2_0_2_0.zip

    hi dear,
I want to upgrade my OMS server 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.5
I downloaded the patch 10.2.0.5 and read the README.txt
    Part of the README is:
1.2 Enter the following command to extract the installation files:
    $ unzip GridControl_10.2.0.5_<platform name>.zip
This command extracts the following files and directory:
    |- p3731593_10205_<platform name>.zip
    |- 3731596.zip
    |- 3822442.zip
    |- README.txt
    |- doc/
NOTE: <platform name> will be "LINUX" or "Win32" depending on the platform for which you are installing. For installing Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release 5 (10.2.0.5), refer to the Release Notes available in the "doc" directory.
    - p3731593_10205_<platform name>.zip is the ZIP file that contains 10.2.0.5 patch set software.
This zip can be used for:
    - Upgrading Oracle Management Service Release 2 (10.2.0.x) or higher to Oracle Management Service Release 5 (10.2.0.5)
    - Upgrading Oracle Management Repository (sysman schema)
    - Upgrading Oracle Management Agent on the host where OMS is running.
NOTE: This will not upgrade the database in which the Management Repository (sysman schema) resides.
    - 3731596.zip is for patching Management Agent by staging the patch set. To understand how you can apply the Management Agent 10.2.0.5 patch set, refer to method 2 described in section 4.3.3 "Upgrading Management Agent - Multiple Hosts at a Time" of the Release Notes. The Release Notes can be found in the "doc" directory.
    - 3822442.zip is for patching Management Agent by distributing the full patch set.  To understand how to apply the Management Agent 10.2.0.5 patch set, refer to method 1 described in section 4.3.3 "Upgrading Management Agent - Multiple Hosts at a Time" of the Release Notes. The Release Notes can be found in the "doc" directory.3731596.zip - by staging
    3822442.zip - by distributing
Does the two above have the same function or purpose?
I can not understand the meaning of the two :( . which do you think is the right one for my setup?
    Thanks a lot

  • How can change database one to another in OEM 10g

    hello
    i have oracle 10g db 10.1.0.2.0 R2.
    and 2 db 1. oracle(db_name) approx 5GB 2. oracle1(db_name) approx 2GB
now i am using OEM 10g or db managing.and manage oracle db through OEM.
but i want manage oracle1 db through OEM so what should i do..
    plz. give me reply
    very soon...
    thanx.

If I understand your question correctly, you have one database that's showing in OEM you say. You didn't specify if it's Database Control or Grid Control.
Database Control allows u to manage only 1 database. So using Database Control of db1, you can manage db1. Using database control of db2, you can manage db2.
However if you want to manage both from one server, you can use Grid Control. To make the second node that hosts the second database show up in Grid Control, you need to install the management agent on that node. After that, once you set up the preferred credentials, it will be in GC.

  • OEM 10g Connection Refused

I got following problem, when i log into EM:
java.lang.Exception: IOException in sending Request :: Connection refused: connect
That will appear on every EM i am connecting to...
I tried allready some troubleshooters like agentTZ, define TimeZone at emd.properties, restarting server or console but nothing helped.
I also looked for ports which will be used from more than one service but i found nothing :(
My OS is WinXP with 6GB Ram. Current there run 6 DBs on the machine
I have no Firewall on my OS.
If you need more Information, please ask, i am glad about every help i can get...
I have been trying to solve that problem for 3 days.

  • Install of OEM 10g Grid controll on windows break my listener

    Hi!
I install OEM 10g Grid controll to Windows 2000 server, successfully (a new database to the repository also was created by the installer).
When I restart our server the service of the Listener did not started (it was set to automatic) and I did not able to start it.
First I see the "Listener.log" and the trace file.
The problem was that the listener intended to load adapter protokoll and refer to the "orantcp9.dll"!
Because before the install I create a 10.1.0.2 database the path of the file point to the "Db_1\bin" and here is "orantcp10.dll" exists.
The "orantcp9.dll" is exists in "em_1\bin".
What and how can I fix?
An additional question : during my secont installation I select to create the repository into an existing database, but the installer refuse it because my DB version was 10.1.0.2 and not 10.1.0.3.
How can I create DB with 10.1.0.3 version on Windows?
    I am in a deadlock :-)
    Regards,
    Imre

    Try MetaLink Doc Id 284680.1
The issue was that the EM Grid Control created an ORACLE_HOME environment variable. All you have to do is delete the variable, move the Database Oracle Home entries in the path to the front, and reboot the server.

  • OEM 10g with earlier version of db

    Hi,
is it possible to manage all my databases ( version 10g, 9i, 8i ) with only one installed OEM 10g?
    Thank you.
    Tibor

I'm running a 10gR1 oem on windows with 9.2.0.6 (now upgraded to 9.2.0.7) and 8.1.7.4 instances.
As long as the 10g agent runs on the host OS it will mamage the instances - even 32-bit 8i on Solaris-32 and Windows, althout Solaris-32 has been dropped from 10gR2
if you want to run 10gR2 oem then 9i must be 9.2.0.7 (hence why I upgraded - we're building a new 10gR2 oem server)

  • ISQLPlus on OEM 10g

Does anyone know the best way to install iSQL Plus on a OEM 10g Grid Contrls installation. The documentation says that iSQL Plus is installed as part of the database. But my OEM installation is on a server that does not have a separate DB installed. Also I am managing a number of 9.2 databases which do not have iSQL.

You should be able to install just iSQL*Plus, but I tried this the other day and it failed. I've logged a bug and hopefully it should be fixed in an upcoming patch set.
Another option is to just use the one install of iSQL*Plus to connect to all the other databases you need to manage. Just set up the database connection information in your tnsnames.ora file, and log into to those databases using the one install of iSQL*Plus.
You can also restrict the databases to which iSQL*Plus can connect by editing web.xml to include the aliases for the other databases, and you'll get a drop down list on the login screen.
I know this doesn't really answer your question, but it might help you by not having to install all those other instances.
