Oem dataguard monitoring

Hello
How can I setup oem to monitor dataguard such as if there is a log gap, it will send notification.
Is it necessary to have dataguard broker to setup monitoring?

To have grid control monitor dataguard the DataGuard Broker is required. Once the dataguard broker is configured then you will need the agent on the primary and standby hosts. Discover the primary and database targets, OEM will recognise the dataguard configuration. I have found on the standby nodes that when in standby mode I have to use a sysdba account for the monitoring configuration or grant sysdba to dbsnmp.
Does this help?

  • Use OEM to monitor oracle database size

    Hello All,
We currently have several database which are currently monitored via OEM however i will appreciate if anyone can tell me how i can monitor the the size of my oracle databases via oem
    Thanks

    Hi,
I'm not sure of OEM will monitor database size, but many 3rd party tools do.
There are many ways to achieve Oracle table monitoring, and many create specialized extension metadata tables to monitor Oracle table growth. In Oracle 10g you can perform Oracle tables monitoring with the dba_hist_seg_stat tables, specifically the space_used_total column.
On my databases, I create STATSPACK extension tables to track table and overall database growth:

The full scripts are in my Oracle Press book, Oracle tuning with STATSPACK . . .

  • Using OEM to monitor Data Guard database

Can someone please send me the link or docs of how to use OEM monitoring data guard? In specific, I would like to use OEM to monitor and be sure logs are applying to stand by site.
    Any ideas?

    Hello ,
I will extend the document on the Fast Failover feature one of these days.
What you need to do is:
For using Fast Failover, you need to configure the Data Guard observer process.
The configuration of this process can be done by selecting the Fast-Start Failover Disabled link on the Data Guard page of the database (Primary or Standby).
You will be automatically redirected to the Fast-Start Failover: Configure Page.
From this page you can do the configuration of the DG observer process, that then will enable you to activate the Fast Failover feature.

  • Why is OEM SQL Monitoring showing parallel on almost every statement

    I'm confused here.
I'm running Oracle EE 11.2.0.2 and when I look in OEM SQL Monitoring, it shows nearly every sql statement running with a degree of parallelism of *2*.
I've checked dba_tables and the 'degree' for all tables is only 1.
I look at the actual sql statement, and there are no hints to tell it to use parallelism.
So why and how is the database using parallelism?
I do see that parallel_threads_per_cpu is set to 2, but this is default for our Solaris 10 operating system.
    REF: (for 11.2)
    ===========
PARALLEL_THREADS_PER_CPU specifies the default degree of parallelism for the instance and determines the parallel adaptive and load balancing algorithms. The parameter describes the number of parallel execution processes or threads that a CPU can handle during parallel execution.
The default is platform-dependent and is adequate in most cases. You should decrease the value of this parameter if the machine appears to be overloaded when a representative parallel query is executed. You should increase the value if the system is I/O bound.
I guess the next question here is how to tell if my database is actually IO bound or not?

Hi John. Thanks for your reply.
    NAME                                 TYPE                             VALUE
parallel_degree_policy               string                           MANUALAnd so, the more I read about PARALLEL_THREADS_PER_CPU, the more I wonder if I should increase this value.
But first, I want to understand why I'm seeing parallelism in OEM set to 2 for almost everything that runs in the database, but note, NOT ALL.
Some queries, especially those running from Crystal Reports, are not using parallelism at all.
Is it possible to set a parameter at the session level that runs parallelism, and perhaps this is being done by the application?
I'm going to try increasing my PARALLEL_THREADS_PER_CPU to 4 and see if this changes the parallelism in OEM, (but I doubt it).
I should note that my most recent AWR report shows my db_file_sequential_read in the top 5 wait events.
This would imply my index reads and table reads by ROWID are waiting for disk - possibly I/O bound.

  • DataGuard monitoring tool for NOC

    Hi,
I'm looking for a dataguard monitoring tool for use in our NOC, I mean something operator/user friendly...

If you have data guard broker license then your enterprise manager have all this informations to give !
If you don't have the license then enterprise manager will not have that.
    edit:
on enterprise manager: database -> choose oyur databse -> availability -> data guard (menu) -> Setup and manage -> ask you to use data guard broker (or not if you database is registered into data guard broker)

  • OEM-Performance monitoring

Hi we are running oracle 8.1.6 and I am seeking some your advice and expertise on OEM.
We like to use OEM for a lot of our Database performance monitoring and tuning and I like to know how reliable this Management tool is. I have heard some negative comments about OEM like: "it is very buggy", "can't rely on it", " it is not quite there yet".
We do have some issues with its installation and configuration on Solaris, and I am beginning to feel that other rumors might be true too.
Is there any one out there who has a good, positive experience with OEM that can convince me we can choose it as a reliable tool to monitor the performance of our database???
    Please share.

  • Collab suite - OEM grid monitor smtp_out and in

Yesterday, smtp_out stopped delivering mail to external domains.
Then I stopped and restarted oesctl smtp_out.
    I'm running 904 Collab suite.
I think there is a bug for this. But nevertheless, is there a way to monitor when smtp_out or smtp_in is in a problematic state?
For example , does OEM grid control able to monitor these outages?
    help please.

It sounds more like a timeout issue on the network. I remember some parameter like TTL (time to live) on the network that could be configured. (not sure if it's on the switch or firewall..) I would definitely check with the network guys.

  • Will Oracle OEM 12c monitor Postgres

Our organization is loooking at adding a couple of Postgres and MySQL databases to our existing Oracle farm. I have found information indicating the Oracle OEM 12c can be used to monitor MySQL but from everything I have found there is not a plugin for use with Postgres.
Is it possible to monitor Postgres databases via Oracle EOM 12c?
    Thank you.
    Bill Wagman

MySQL can be monitored by using a plugin: http://www.pythian.com/blog/mysql-plugin-for-oracle-enterprise-manager/
Postgres can be monitored by using a plugin but I do not know about a existing plugin for Postgres. An option would be to create one yourself.

  • Standby database open to test

    Hi.
I's needed to activate some physical standby databases in the DR site to test if the applications are working correctly. Everthing ran correctly, only I have an one problem:
When the DataGuard was synchronized, this does correctly:
    Ex.
    Prod database
    select max(sequence#) from v$log_history; Max sequence: 115
    Standby database
    select max(sequence#) from v$log_history; Max sequence: 114
But in OEM - DataGuard monitoring page indicate me the sequence that the database advanced during the tests and not the sequence in wich really the standby database goes.
How can I solve this issue?
    Thanks

    Hi Hemant.
I's followed the steps of "12.6 Using a Physical Database for Read/Write testing and reporting (Oracle Data Guard concepts and Administration guide)" and in this guide have a note for first make a guaranteed restore point, then activate the standby db and after the test restore to this point.
All the steps is running correctly but when I check in the Data guard status pages on the OEM, the *'Last received log'* column have the last sequences generated during the test and in the *'Last applied log'* column have a zero, but if I check with the next sql query in the standby database:
    sql> select max(sequence#) from v$log_history;
have the sequence correctly; before I was do the steps to synchronize with the primary database.
I's make a clean of the agents on both servers, the same data.
After the some day, the databases are synchronize.

  • Monitoring Dataguard on 10g through OEM

    Please,
Should I need to install a version of OEM to monitore my dataguard on 10g.
I configure Dataguard with Oracle 10g running on windows, but the GUI of OEM doesn't show a tab related to dataguard.
How should I get it ?, there is a link of that should help me to resoleve this issue?
    Thanks

we monitor from console using SYS userYou have to monitor it using a SYSDBA user not necessarily SYS. So you can create a user e.g. SYS_MONITOR which has different policy than SYS. Although it is best to change that password on regular bases too, maybe every 3 months.
so is any way we can change SYS password on console using command line utility?I don't get your question. Are you asking if it is possible to change the monitoring username/password using some command line utility? If so, I haven't heard of such tool. But there could be a package like MGMT_TARGET which you can manipulate the credentials if you know how to use it.

  • How to monitor the Unix syslog through OEM

I have a new install of 10gR2 OEM to monitor Unix servers but can not find where is the unix syslog being monitored or if it can be examined the same way as the oracle alert log.
    Appreciate the feedback.

    Look at the metric
Log File Pattern Matched Line Count
Dont be fooled by the column headings ..
    Put in the logfile name,
put in the text to search for in the timestamp column,
put in % in the match pattern in perl (this is the exclude from alert text)
Thats it .. so yes you can monitor the syslogs.
(PS This is in the wrong forum for this question -search the other one and you will see this answer repeated by me a few months ago)
