OEM DBconsole

Hi,
I have Oracle 9i DB on HP TRU64 Unix servers, DB setup was done by some group earlier whice left, I see lot of discrepancy in configurations.
2 server are clustered without Oracle RAC, Full export Backup is taken daily along with hot backup scheduled daily.
1) How can I re-schedule the backups from full to incremental in Unix (I am Windows DBA), without distrubing the jobs scheduler.
2) I want to install OEM DB Console so that I can perform my duties making OS transparent. But when I try to install using DBCA, I dont see the option to add SYSMAN schema, therefore I ended without making any changes to the instances.
On another server which do not have RAC DB, when I try to re-configure using DBCA, I get 2 options A) to create\manage RAC DB, B) to manages individual instance, here again the option to re-configure or manage existing instance is disabled. I can only create or delete instances. How is this happening in UNIX, I never had this problem in Windows.
What is manual way to perform this task, or best solution to this situation.

For this you have to change the entry in crontab . and you have to write a shell script for taking the backup.(Now for this take help from a experienced Unix Oracle dba.)

In 9i DBCONSOLE is not available but OMS is available . Now OMS configuration is again a advanced concept. So I suggest use Oracle Enterprise Manager (Standalone ).
This is very simple a) Install Oracle in a local Windows machine b) Open EM in standalone mode c) Add a new database to tree d) Connect to this added database using sysdba e) Now you can do almost all dba activity .
For this above you can refer oracle documentation for Oracle 9i EM.

OEM dbconsole always slow?any version any unix/linux?

I always experienced performance issue with OEM dbconsole, both v10g and 11g do you guys have the same feeling? Is there a way to optimize its performance?
I have multiple db’s on the same server, wondered if dbconsole takes too many resources at the OS level?
Should I shutdown all and start whenever needed?
what i mean by always is 80% of the times/80 of the pages. I had many days when I just ignore it and use sqlplus instead...

The UNIX/Linux log file monitor cannot handle wildcards. The log file name must not change. I would suggest you have your log named /var/log/myapp/myapp.log and just have the log rotate rename it to /var/log/myapp/myapp-2014-11-28.log or whatever works for
you when you go to save it off.
and yes, 'Generic text log' is for Windows only.

Error trying to recreate OEM dbconsole in 11GR2 - aux_stats$ does not exist

I created a blank 11GR2 database, then created tablespaces, users etc. and imported schema's from 9i export. So far so good.
Now I can't connect to the OEM dbconsole, all arrows are green, instance up, listener up etc. but says it cant connect.
Ok, recreate dbsonsole , first drop sysman, dbsmp cascade etc, then run emca -deconfig dbcontrol db -repos drop - seemed to go ok
then run emca -config db -repos create - it asks for passwords etc, all ok so far, then craps out, I look in the logfile and see this:
GRANT SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE ON AUX_STATS$ TO SYSMAN
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
So now what? Why would it try to grant access to a table or view that does not exist? Did I miss something here?

Is there a workaround or a version that will install on 2008 x64?Well, no OMS has been certified with this version as of now. You can have 10.2.0.3/4 OMS on 2008(32 Bit)
10.2.0.4 Agent is certified with 2008 64 bit.

Pls help wi setting up 11gR2 OEM dbconsole for 1 on win7 ultimate 32-bits

At the final stages of installation I had an erro message informing me while oem wont work and instructing me to set ORACLE_UNIQUE variable to unique database name , then run emctl start dbconsole whichi did as show below. but still it hasnt worked
1. C:\app\Microsoft\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\BIN>set ORACLE_UNQNAME=orcl
2. C:\app\Microsoft\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\BIN>emctl start dbconsole
OC4J Configuration issue. C:\app\Microsoft\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1/oc4j/j2ee/OC4J_DBConsole_Microsoft-PC_orcl not found.

The OracleDBConsoleorcl service in control panel is not started. I tried starting it manually but it failed with an error message saying windows could not start OracleDBConsoleorcl on local computer....... service-specifi error code type 2.

Starting OEM DBconsole of 2nd Instance

Hello,
we have 2 instances of oracle 10g on solaris. I was able to start ( after the rebooting the whole server) one instance of OEM db console. How can I start the OEM db console of 2nd instance. when I give emctl status dbconsole or emctl start dbconsole it start the OEM of the 1st instance only.

1st instance name = 2nd instance nameNot sure what that means, but be sure you use ORACLE_SID in uppercase, e.g.

OEM DBconsole Jobs Email on failure

I am using dbconsole (i.e. not oem grid control).
I successfully run a job (host script) which I force to fail by returning exit(1). This works, and the job shows up as having failed. How do I get OEM to send an email?
I have configured notifications (under preferences) and the TEST button works (i.e. I get an email).
However, when the job fails, I do not get any email?
Under oem 9i this was easy, but I can not see how to do it in 10g? - thanks very much.

Set up a user-event (i.e a scheduled script) to monitor the output from you unix job (i.e. read you unix jobs log that it probably/should produce). This monitor script can then raise an alert which in turn triggers an
email message. You need oem grid control (not DBconsole only) to do this.

If you want and afford, you can setup database control on standby after failover in similar manner you did it on primary. Here what you can do to set it up, and fgllow the interactive instruction? Also I just posted the same for you on a differnt forum, please delete that or mark it as moved to installation or mark it answered.

OEM DBconsole user_events

I have only DBconsole installed and not OEM Grid control.
The online documentation for defining user events refers to writing a unix script to return a value to raise an alert. The documentation says the you must go to the HOST page, but there is no Host page in Dbconsole, or at least I can not find it. Is this Host page only available from OEM grid control? - thanks

DST Issue in OEM DBConsole

I am running 10.2.0.3 database on Windows XP. When I run the OEM 10g Database Console my page refreshed Dat Time is 1 hour behind the sysdate time which just sprung forward at 2am today.
I followed the instructions in Metalink on the "Quick Fix" to this issue which instructed me to download and run the TZUPDATER.jar from the Sun Java Site on all my JRE direcctories in my Oracle Home.
My oracore/timezone files are also up to date.
I did this but I am still getting the incorrect time. All other times are displaying correctly (database, agent, performance metrics, etc.) but not the "Page Refreshed" time on the database console main page.
Any one out there resolve this issue today? (EST US or GMT -hrs)

I have the same issue. I copied the tzupdater.jar to the $ORACLE_HOME/jdk/jre/bin directory. Please see below. What is it missing?

I'm running the database console (10.2.0.1) from one RAC node (2-node cluster), and the agent is running on the second node. WHen I try to load the cluster home page, I receive the following error "java.lang.Exception: No such metric" at the top of the page. The rest of the page looks correct.

Does anyone know what can be the problem? We just migrated to a 10g envrionement and I don't have much experience troubleshooting the OEM dbconsole functionality. Using the browser and migrating to the agent port (3938) - shows working. The upload url shows the XML file receiver is active.

Restore point not shown in DBConsole

I'm testing flashback and i noticed the problem.
in the page Manage Restore Points I always have No Rows Found while in RMAN:

I did just download and install the updates (DPP, EOS, Picture Style Editor and Zoom Browser).
Still no red focus point(s) shown with Back-button Focusing.
I searched on the web for this "symptom" and found, that I'm not alone.
It seems in Back-Button Focusing, the focus point won't be displayed unless you hold the back button down (* button in my case) while pressing the shutter button.
I tried holding the * button while taking a shot and yes the red box shows up.
This seems like defeating the usefulness of back button focusing. (???).
What do I know? I'm just a newbie.

OEM keeps logging me out

I am using OEM DBConsole (database version 11.2) and it keeps logging me out after so many minutes of inactivity unless I happen to be in one of the performance monitoring screen that automatically refreshes every xx seconds.
I've had the same issue with OEM Grid Control.
Is there a setting someplace to turn this off so it doesn't continue to log me out?

Well darn... now I have problems to get it started again.
I made copies of the file(s) before making changes, and even copied back the original files.
But when I attempt to start the dbconsole, it says "Failed" and I cannot connect to it using my browser.
Something is obviously wrong.
When I check the emctllog file, it shows

Dbconsole start error and securure error.

My OEM dbconsole on Linux (Redhat 5, with Oracle 11g2) failed to starrt after run OK for sometimes. Thank you for the reply. Indeed the emoms.properties file is empty. I copied a backup in the same directory to emoms.properties.
Then ran emctl secure dbconsole successfully. But start dbconsole still failed. [oracle@cchdb log]$ emctl start dbconsole

OEM Agent 10g

HI,
Can any one help me to understand the use of OEM agent 10g? Is it different from OEM (dbconsole in single instance). Please provide some document link.

Hi;
That means while use Oracle Management console for monitoring all of our databases from centralized OEM console then on each database we have to install >OEM agent. I will check the links and will be back if have more query.Correct
Now the usage of OEM agent is clear to me. Could you please let me know that how OEM agent communicate with OMS and is the repository stores locally of on the server where OMS installed.
If possible, then please provide me the good link.Please see below link

Problem installing packages for SQL monitoring activites - in OEM dbcontrol

hi guys,
possible to reinstall the OEM (dbconsole)component as i am having alot of running issues with it.
i do not intend to emca drop repository as the repository cannot be drop successfully as well.
( base on the emca log - i am stuck at
Getting temporary tablespace from database ) - log just stop at there.
so i went my own way and drop the sysman user
drop the MGMT_VIEW , the public synonyms and recreate the repository.
While configuring SQL activity Monitoring, i am suppose required to install packages but i keep getting the <i> cannot compute dynamic properties in time </i> error.
Went to metalink, search for this error [ID 739993.1], follow the fixed - but is of no help. (any other logs i can look at ?)
So i just want to reinstall this whole piece of thing again, but not sure whelther it is possible or not (as i think the dbconsole comes with the oracle software installation).
What should i do ?~~ I been trying this for days and hours .
any advices, gurus

Solved....
Although I add the same ILOM versions on both servers (2.0.2.6) I updated the ILOM to 3.0.6.15 and everything was installed successfully.
