OEM Grid Control 10g Deployment

Hi,
We are planning to deploy OEM Grid Control 10g (with Diagnostics and Performance Management packs) for management and monitoring of following targets:
Oracle Databases (9.2.x, 10.x) - 12
Oracle Application Servers 10g - 6
OEM documentation states that for smaller deployments (targets < 100); following h/w specs would be sufficient:
CPU: 1 (3GHz)
Memory: 4 GB (2GB for OMS, 2GB for OMR)
Disk Storage: 12 GB (2GB for OMS, 10GB for OMR)
I want to know:
i) Will that amount of disk storage will be sufficient?
ii) What would be the growth rate of OMR (Oracle Management Repository)?
iii) What other factors should be considered?
All suggestions are welcome.
Regards,
Preet

Hi Preet,
We had a 200+ (now 700+) target install in a major Telco and at that time
the repository database size was just 25 GB. So 10 GB for the database
itself should be ok. However sounds like you are crunched for space.
Bear in mind you need space for the installation of the EM10g OMS home,
the Agent Home and the Database home. So I dont think 12 GB is enough
for you. Try it out in test.
Regards,
Porus.

  • OEM Grid control 10g on Linux

    Hello,
I have installed OEM grid control 10g and able to connect to the console via the sysman user id.
I am trying to configure email notification, but though I put all credentials properly I am not able to receive any emails.
I was looking at Oracle documentation and it says....
The SMTP server is the name of the mail server (for examplemail.acme.com).
For Linux, the SMTP server must be the local host name.Use the fully qualified host name (including domain
Does the smtp server need to on the localhost ? can't it work with a smtp server on a different host than the grid control box ?
Any advice will be much appreciated.
    S.

The smtp service doesn't need to be on the host you installed grid control, Grid control can use any smtp server as long as it can reach it.

    hi,
before you install grid, try and patch the database to a later release, 10.2.0.4
had this issue in work and patching the db resolved the issue.
I did install database software only, then patch then create database, then install grid

  • OEM Grid Control 10g Install

    Hi,
I am new to OEM. I want to install OEM Grid Control in new linux maxhine. For this can i install any thing before go to OEM. Please help me out on this. Please expalin the install procedure.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Sridhar

    Hey there :)
Can you elaborate on what you mean by "install an thing before", do you want to install other Oracle products, then OEM and point it to manage these installs?
As for the install procedure, a quick look at how its done is seen on the link below
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe10gem/install/gridinst/gridinst.htm
The Oracle By Example series can be quite a good base to start from when you are new to this area.

  • Does OEM Grid Control 10g support monitoring Oracle Portal 10g?

    Dear expert,
It seems OEM GC 10g could monitor WebCenter, Weblogic portal and even Websphere portal, but I could not find any info for Oracle Portal. So,
    1.     Does OEM GC support to monitor Oracle Portal 10g? If not, does it support Oracle Portal 11g?
    2.     If does not support Oracle Portal, then is there any workaround for it? E.g. if it’s feasible through “web appliation”?
Any comment and docs are welcome.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Rob,
    Thanks for your help.
BTW, I have another question for your reply, that what do u mean by “You can use Oracle Enterprise Manager to monitor and manage OracleAS Portal”?
Do you mean OEM AS Console or OEM GC? Boz I only find these metrics from OEM AS Console, which mentioned in this doc. http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/em.102/b25987/oracle_portal.htm#CHDFJHDD
If these metrics only available in AS Console, then how to let the OEM send out email notification if critical threshold is over?
    Thank you.

  • Install of OEM Grid Control on  10g RAC

    Hi,
I try to install OEM Grid Control 10.1.0.3 on a 10G 10.1.0.2 database with ASM and RAC installed, on windows.
At the step of choosing the product to install, i would like to choose 'OEM GC using an existing database' or 'Additional management service 10.1.0.3', but it fails.
The reason is 'you cannot install OEM on a hardware cluster'.
I have no idea how to resolve that, do i have to change my RAC installation ?
    thank you for your answer,
    Isabelle

To install on RAC, you install using an existing database and then specify the sid/hostname for ONE instance in the RAC.
Once the management repository has been sucessfully installed and the mid-tier is up, you can edit emoms.properties to modify the JDBC url the application uses to connect to the database to be RAC aware.
The are a number of pre-installation requisites for an existing database to be used as a destination for a repository installation, there are both documents on metalink on the subject and the basic installation guide references pre-requisites for existing databases.

We have installation of EBS R12, the AMP pack for EBS system is installed on the and already running. Now we want to use oem grid control to manage the EBS suites.
We have installed the eom 11G grid control and installed the application management pack patche (p8333939). How do we now deploy the enterprise manager grid control to EBS.
The documentation says agent needs to installed on the database tier and application tier and then discovered by the oem

  • Deploying Apache_fop war file  -- no OEM Grid Control

    Hi
Does anyone know how I would go about deploying the Apache_fop war file on a machine where OEMgridControl is not installed, eg An XE Database upgraded to Apex 3.0.1 or any other database without Grid contol.
The instructions for deployment all assume OEM Grid control is installed.

I copied an existing working structure and this worked for me.

  • OEM GRID CONTROL REMOTE INSTALLATION

    Hello Good People,
I am trying to install OEM GRID CONTROL. I have a two RAC node (AIX 5L). I don't have acces to the server so my only option is remote installation.
I was able to ftp the file into a directory on the server but it will not unzip, (error: couldn't find 10g.zp or 10g.ZIP). I uploaded the file as binary.
Okay, I will like to install from my laptop, (xp) using the DVD that I have. I went through the documentation steps below:
    1. Make sure that the remote access software is installed and running on the remote and local computers.
    2. On the local computer, share the DVD drive.
    3. On the remote computer, map a drive letter to the shared DVD drive. You would use the remote access software to do this on the remote computer.
Through the remote access software, run Oracle Universal Installer on the remote computer. You access Oracle Universal Installer from the shared DVD drive.
I am confuse with step 2 downward. How can I map a drive in UNIX or why should I? I am connected to the sever by Telnet.
Any direction or suggestion will be appreciated. Please note that all I want is to remotely install GRID CONTROL on my server from the DVD that I have.
    Thanks for your help.......

Based on further researched I discovered that the problem is due to the fact that I don't have an X-Window client install on my local machine. I just install a free trial version (30days). OUI finally started and went through the various checks. Although, the check passed I couldn't continue. It is saying missing some files. I will post the erros messages from the log in a while.
    Thanks

  • Installing OEM Grid Control not complete?

    Hi,
I've installed OEM Grid Control on Solaris 5.10
Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release 2 (v10.2.x)
Full Installers (Agent, Repository, OMS, and Management Packs)
    from link
but no OMS ha been installed.
I had no choice during the installation process to mark it as well as other components like: Agent, Repository.
Is it not enough to use Disk1/.../runInstaller ???
Can anybody advice me how to install it completely (without patches, they blur the process to me, at present)
    ?

Yes, that should be enough. After that you have to choose one of the 2 choices and click next
    1) Enterprise manager 10g grid control using new database
    2) Enterprise manager 10g grid control using existing database.
    Thanks,
    Tarun

  • RAC environment setup for OEM Grid Control

    Hi All,
One of my customer is setting up RAC environment for OEM Grid Control, he has following questions.
    1) Can I use the DirectNFS client on each RAC node to mount SAN storage created with an OCFS2 filesystem?
    2) Can I use the DirectNSF client to mount the shared filesystem loader directory?
    3) Should I be using DirectNFS for the shared filesystem loader at all? Or should I just use a normal Linux NFS mount?
    4) Is OCFS2 preferred over NFS for the shared filesystem loader?
    Any information is highly appriciated.
    Thank you,

  • How to install Grid Control 10g Release 3?

    Hello,
I need install Grid Control 10g Release 3 for Linux x86_64 on SUSE 9, and I need some tips about this instalation.
I need registry 3 database, 1 DB is 10g and the others are in 9.2.
    Can I help me?
    Thank's

If you installed the 64-bit SLES-9, you are on the only platform that has a full install of 10gR3 Grid Control available:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oem/index.html
Everyone else must install 10gR2 fully, then patch up to 10gR3.
    Run runInstaller to start installation
    - When asked for "install type" option, choose "Enterprise Manager using New Database" option
    - Complete installation as per install guide
    - Install the 10gR3 agent install on any additional servers that require monitoring.
Load and execute orarun to enable the correct kernel options if you not done so already. It can be downloaded from www.suse.com/oracle. Comment out any IPv6 entries from /etc/hosts. The O/S should be setup similar to the AS 10.1.2 install doc for SLES9:
    http://ftp.novell.com/partners/oracle/docs/iAS10gR2_sles9_install.pdf

  • Pre-Requisites for OEM/Grid Control?

Just to be absolutely clear - The latest version of OEM/Grid Control requires what version of Oracle DB?
We are begin conservative and rolling out 11g r1 in production and want to know if that is sufficient to host the lastet version of OEM/Grid Control.
If not, will it support an earlier version of OEM/Grid Control? What version?
Is there a support matrix that clearly identifies the version dependencies?

And Support Note "Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control Certification Checker (Doc ID 412431.1)" is referenced. It states that you can use as old as Oracle Database 10g Release 2 10.2.0.4. Older than that, and you leave supported territory anyway.

  • Enabling security for  OEM Grid Control 11g fails

    Hi Experts,
One of my Customer is referring the below command to secure OMS and it fails.
    emctl secure oms [-sysman_pwd <sysman password>] [-reg_pwd <registration password>] [-host <hostname>] [-slb_port <slb port>] [-slb_console_port <slb console port>] [-reset] [-console] [-lock] [-lock_console] [-secure_port <secure_port>] [-upload_http_port <upload_http_port>] [-root_dc <root_dc>] [-root_country <root_country>] [-root_email <root_email>] [-root_state <root_state>] [-root_loc <root_loc>] [-root_org <root_org>] [-root_unit <root_unit>] [-wallet <wallet_loc> -trust_certs_loc <certs_loc>] [-wallet_pwd <pwd>] [-key_strength <strength>] [-cert_validity <validity>] [-protocol <protocol>]
    The error message as below.
    Securing OMS... Started.
<May 31, 2011 4:40:31 PM CEST> <Warning> <Security> <BEA-090504> <Certificate chain received from <hostname of the actual node running OEM> - <IP of the hostname of the actual node running OEM> failed hostname verification check. Certificate contained <SLB hostname> but check expected <hostname of the actual node running OEM>
    Securing OMS... Failed
The brief background of the wallet creation is as below.
The actual certificate and CSR is created using openssl with a config file openssl-oemgc.cnf. This is according to customer organization's policy and how the production signed certificates have to be requested. The CN is indeed <SLB hostname>. The used syntax was:
    openssl req -new -keyout <SLB hostname>.key -out <SLB hostname>.csr -config openssl-oemgc.cnf
The config file content can be referred in the service request.
    Following the guide on
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/web.1111/e13749/utils.htm#ADMRF151
the certificates were imported into a java keystore 'identity.jks'. And the certificate chain was imported in a java keystore 'trust.jks'.
With these customer has followed note 1278609.1 to configure these keystores in WLS. The certificates show up fine without errors in the browser when opening the WLS console.
Then according to notes 1116717.1 customer has created an Oracle wallet. Then he copied that wallet to an old 10g oracle application server and opened the wallet with 'owm' and saved it. Then he has copied the wallet to the new Oem Grid Control and opened it with'owm' (this now succeeds) and saved it with SSO. This is the wallet that customer is using while trying to secure the OMS.
    Service Request: 3-3731274961
    Any input is highly appreciated.
    Thanks

can i maintain these two databases with single oem control
    please gudie me
    Thanks all

    Hi,
can i maintain these two databases with single oem control Yes you can, you just need to install oracle agent on this machine and it will explore all the targets (databases, listeners etc) and will register with OEM grid control.
If you are using OEM database control, you need to configure individual OEM database controls for each database.
