OEM Managment Server

Hi all,
First, a little background of why I ended up with this problem. I Installed Oracle91 on my laptop with Win 2k as my OS. That worked well and I started DB A with no problems. Then, I installed OEM on the same machine. When I was asked about a new repository I said yes and the installation created DB B. I linked the managment server to DB B. I then removed DB B and now I can not seem to link the management server to DB A.
When I try to log in I enter log/pass and (my_computer_name). I try to log in and I get the following error: "VTK-1000 unable to connect..."
How can I set up the management server so that it points to the OEM repository in DB A?
Hope this makes some sense.
Thanks,
Ornulf

Thanks,
Ornulf I think what might have happened is that, when you created the repository, DB A should have been specified for creation of the repository. By having the repository stored in a new DB, DB B, and then deleting DB B, there is no longer a repository for connecting to.
Rerun the EMS Configuration Assistant again and specify the repository should be created in DB A. Start the service and, then, attemp to log in.
Hope this gets you going.

Why I could not start up Oracle OEM Management Server using Control Panel/Services/Start..
the 'start' status vanished once I closed the 'Services' window.
    Thanks a lot

I don't know if its possible in a single script.
What I'll do is connect over ssh to the servers and run some of the scripts available to start/shutdown the instances.
In [1] there are some useful scripts. (the scripts need to be IN the server, not your client)

    Hi all,
We are about to administer our database using Oracle Enterprise manager. For that we have configured OEM in a Test PC and tried to connect our database.
First i have logged in to OEM Console with Sysman login id using the default password "oem_temp" and it prompts me to change the password, also i have changed the password as "xxxxx" and i have come out of OEM console and tried to relogin using the changed password.
i got the message as invalid login or password or

i found that the service Oracle Management server which was previously running is not running now and i tried to restart that manually.
On doing that i got a message as

Would any one of u help me to solve this problem.

    Hi,
Oracle has changed the Enterprise Manager from version 1.5 to 2.0 .
With the new Oracle8i dataase server another service has been added.
If you want to user the OEM you have to install The Managment Server.
The Managment server has its own user and privileges and is recommended when using OEM.

tell me how to configure Oracle Management Server so that I can take-up cold as well logical back up
    using this option.

    Hi,
If you have installed Enterprise Manager on your system, it comes with Configuration Wizard. The Configuration Wizard helps you to configure and set up OEM interactively.
You can find the information to configure the OEM under Oracle Enterprise Manager Configuration Guide has step-by-step procedure for setting up the OEM. You can find this documentation under the link
    http://technet.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle8i/doc_library/817_doc/em.817/index.htm

  • Oracle Management Server 9i

Hallo kann mir hier vielleicht jemand meinen Denkfehler beseitigen. Ich habe mir gerade unter Oracle 9i den Manager Server per Konfigurationsassistent erstellen lassen und habe folgende Daten zum Schluss bekommen.
    Lokal DB erstellen: Ja
    Lokaler DB SID: OEMREP
    Repository-Benutzername: OEM_SERVER3_OEMREP
    Kennwort:
    Benutzer erstellen: ja
    Standard-Tablespace: OEM_REPOSITORY
    Temporärer Tablespace: TEMP
    OMS-Konfiguration aktualisieren: Ja
    Globaler DB Name: OEMREP

    Hi,
how i would be able to stop oracle management listener? Here is the main driving script to start all the Oracle10g AS infrastructure and mid-tier components:
    startall.ksh
    /bin/ksh
    ./startinfra.sh
    sleep 10
    ./startmidtier.sh
    sleep 10
Note that this script calls the start scripts for the infrastructure followed by calls to start the mid-tier application. Let’s examine these scripts and see their features. The start script for the infrastructure issues these Oracle10gAS commands:
    Start listener - $ORACLE_HOME/bin/lsnrctl start
    Start the iasdb database
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/sqlplus /nolog<<EOF
    connect / as sysdba
    startup
Start all opmnctl controlled processes - $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl startall
    Check status of infrastructure with DCM - $ORACLE_HOME/dcm/bin/dcmctl getState -v -i $INFRA
Start OMS - $ORACLE_HOME/bin/emctl start oms
    Start OEM
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/emctl start agent
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/emctl start em
and start the database listener .lsnrctl start

  • How to install Oracle Management Server

    Hello Guys,
I have installed oracle database9i on my computer now i want to configure Oracle Management Server. Please advice how to do it.
Like when i start Enterprise Manager Console there are 2 options to Launch Standalone or Login to Management Server.
I want to logon to Oracle Management Server.
    Regards,

You must create an OEM repository, and configure the OMS accordingly. From your start menu, you will find the Oracle Home Products menu -> Configuration and Migration Tools -> Enterprise Manager Configuration Assistant
The emca is the graphical assistant tool you launch to perform oms configuration. It is recommended to create the repository in its own database.

  • Oracle management server install/configure

i am running oracle 8.1.6 on linux 6.2.My enterprise manager is loaded on a win 98 platform.Whenever i want to connect to the server on linux for tuning and backup features the application ask's for the oracle management server .Could you tell me what is it and how to install/configure such a server

Oracle Enterprise Manager was designed for 3-tier architecture where:
tier 1 are your client tools, i.e. OEM consoles and DBA management packs
tier 2 is the middle tier which is the managment server with the repository(this is another database not managed through the OEM console.)
tier 3 are your nodes, i.e. the databases, listeners, and other services.
On another server, install oracle software, create a database with a minimum of a system tablespace and temporary tablespace.
From your OEM(Oracle Enterprise Manager) console on your Windows 98 platform, go to OEM configuration assistant, connect to the oracle database that you just created(see above) as system/manager. Create a new repository and select to create a new tablespace called OEM_REPOSITORY. The owner of this tablespace is preferably a person who is not a user on the system, just make someone up. Use your temporary tablespace for the temp and not the system tablespace. It will create the repository in your database.
Now, connect through the OEM console, the initial username is SYSMAN password OEM_TEMP. It will make you change the password for security reasons. You will have to discover the databases on all of your nodes(tier 3) in order to manage them. Don't try to manage your middle tier database that has your management server with OEM console.
    Hope this helps,
    Rob

  • Oracle 8i Management Server???

    Help!
I know nothing about Oracle, but am expected to administer a datatbase. I am trying to open up the Enterprise Manager (OEM) but keep being asked for information about a Management Server.
In my services, there is a Management Server, but I am unable to start it.
Can anyone tell me how to start, add, configure a Management Server so that I can start the OEM???
    thanks,
    amber

You have to set up a repository for OMS.
Go to Enterprise Manager Configuration Assistant and configure a repository. It will ask you to create user_name, password and the database name . Then you can start Mangement server from your services.
    Hope this will help.

    Hi
Enterprise Manager Server is a service, you can start it in the control panel/administrative tools/services.
To create a repository run the enterprise manager configuration assistant.
To login to EMC se the help for the default username/pwd.
