OEM Repository Database Restarts Daily
Greetings,
I am running OEM 12.1.0.3.0 on a VM running Linux x86_64. The repository is Oracle 11.2.0.3.0 running on a separate VM host also running Linux x86_64.
On a daily basis at 05:57:21 (give or take a few seconds) my OEM repository is restarted -
Shutting down instance (immediate)
Stopping background process SMCO
Shutting down instance: further logons disabled
<remaining shutdown steps displayed in the alert logs>
and it immediately restarts. I am unable to determine why. The host is not restarted. I have looked at dba_jobs in the repository and see nothing running which would do this. I have looked at OEM jobs and don't see anything scheduled there which would do this. I am at a loss to explain this and am wondering if anyone else has encountered this or has an explanation. Is this expected behavior or is my setup an anomaly?
Thank you.
Bill Wagman
Bill,
This would not be an expected behaviour. If your Repository DB re-starts, then there are chances that the OMS will also re-start if it cannot access the repository DB for a long duration. This will affect console usage.
Do you not see any other errors before this shutdown?
You could also check if there are any DB trace files created around the same time.
Recommend posting this in the Database forum for further investigation.
Regards,
Smitha.

OEM repository database creation
Hi,
I wanted to create repository database for OEM on Linux. What are the steps required?I think all you need is in Oracle® Enterprise Manager Grid Control Basic Installation Guide.
Or take a look at http://oracleinnotiive.wordpress.com/2010/08/02/oracle-enterprise-manager-11g-grid-control-installation-guide/ (it's x86 !)

Database restarting daily, why?
My RDBMS is Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production running on RHEL 6 x86_64 running on a virtual server. Each morning at 05:58 the database restarts. Looking at the various trace files generated at that time I see messages as follows -
CELL communication is configured to use 0 interface(s):
kcrfwy: minimum sleep is 9974 usecs (overhead is 8974 usecs)
kgfmIsAppliance=0 (due to init)
There is a vktm trace file:

The alert log shows the shutdown/startup and all looks normal. The audit trail file shows a connection as sysdba at this time (that is to be expected I suppose).
The vktm trace file indicates to me that the problem may be due to the virtual keeper of the time and I wondered if it is perhaps getting out of sync with the time clock on the virtual server. I spoke with one of the system administrators who suggested some checks. One is that the entry tinker panic 0 be in the /etc/ntp.conf file but I don't find that entry. The VM tools appear to be in place -
-bash-3.2$ grep "buildNr =" /usr/bin/vmware-config-tools.pl
$buildNr = '8.6.11 build-1180212';
-bash-3.2$ /sbin/lsmod | grep vm
vmmemctl 46424 0
vmci 83804 1 vsock
vmxnet 55556 0
vmxnet3 88544 0
At this point I am stuck and not sure what else to look at. I have done a bit of searching but have not found anything which seems to fit my situation. If anyone has encountered this or has any suggestions I would be most grateful.
Thank you.
Bill WagmanI understand your desire to 'plan' and why that might normally make sense but if planning is needed before your org can change their most important passwords then you have a large, gaping security hole.
One of the key tasks that ANY organization must be able to perform AT A MOMENTS NOTICE is changing key passwords. Implicit in that task is the requisite documentation that shows the EXACT steps the need to be taken and clearly identifies ALL possible impacts (i.e. other password changes needed, batch process impacts, etc).
The IT manager, or lead DBA, should be able to put their hands on security documentation that identifies that process and the steps to implement it.
As part of the process of resolving your current issue I suggest you broach that LARGER deficiency to your management and make immediate plans to address it. -
OEM repository database upgrade
Hi
Can anyone let me know if the repository database 10.1.0.5 can be upgraded to 10.2.0.2/10.2.0.3. If it can be done then please let me know the steps for the same.yes this can be done , just stop all the opmn, agent.em process
and follow the database upgrade doc

Establish Database connection to connect to OEM Repository from Agents
I have a requirement to establish Database connection from Agent through Plug-in.
Ex:
My plug-in metadata will have a perl script which gets executed in each individual agents and it should connect to the OEM Repository database to execute a package.
Your Help is Appreciable. You would have to take in all of the information needed to connect to the database as instance properties for your target type. So each time someone creates an instance of your target type, they'd have to enter the connection details for the repository database.
The specifics of what are needed should be in the extensibility guide where the SQL fetchlet is documented. -
Hi All,
Greetings...
I have a question.
Can it be possible to use Oracle XE for OEM repository and what about other editions like Standard also can be used?
Please help me to conclude my requirement for an Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Release 3 (12.1.0.3) installation on winx64.
regards,
NoushadIf you are looking to purchase Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c it requires an Oracle database for the repository which would be included in the license so you do not need to worry about the database version. Note if you were to use the the repository database for something other then the OEM repository this would require a database license.
You can confirm this information with your Oracle Rep or review the OEM license information. -
Hi,
Could anybody explain me or give me some good link to understand the concept of OEM repository in 9i. I found something on Internet, but I have some question without answer. I appreciate if somebody could answer or give me some links which respond to these questions:
1) What the depenency between OEM repository and one agent of a database ?
2) If a OEM contains more agents (for 4-5 databases) is there any data lost if the OEM is recreated ? Must I recreate it in a particulary manner not to lose data in it and to be functional after recration ?
3) Could anybody send me some GOOD information about the concept of OEM repository ?
any other information about OEM will be appeciated.
Thanks to all, Paul T.I have some intelligent agent which are down and I want to restart them. When I do a Refresh on that node in OEM Console I get the message "Refresh Failed: VNI-4054 The Oracle Management Server is out of sync with the agent (<agent name>)". Initially I thought to recreate the OEM Repository. Now I am not sure that is a good idee. Thank, Paul.
... For the moment I saw that this error is still undetermined ... it must be treated as OERR: VNI-4040 Agent state is corrupted ... I continue with my research ...

OEM Repository and Intelligent Agent
How many OEM repository and Intelligent Agent do I need to have to schedule a unique job on three of the 4 databases I have?
Thanks,
MirabelleIf databases are not discovered, you could have a problem with any of the following files.
listener.ora
oratab ( UNIX/Linux)
Microsoft Registry (Windows)
1. Check the $ORACLE_HOME\network\agent\log\nmiconf.log for warnings or errors.
2. Verify the database sid exists in the listener.ora file. When the Agent parses the listener.ora, it looks for the "sid_list=...." section. If this section is missing, the Agent will not discover the database.
3. Verify the database sid exists in the oratab or Microsoft Registry. (In some cases, the sid is case sensitive.)
4. Stop and Restart the Agent. NOTE: This step is necessary because the Agent will only parse the files during startup.
5. Check the services.ora file and verify the Database services now exists in the file.
6. Refresh the Node through the EM Console. -

Backing up an RMAN Catalog/OEM Repository
This may be a supid question but I will ask it nonethelss.
I have an RMAN catalog/OEM Repository which has never been backed up.
Can I use register this (RMAN catalog/OEM Repository) DB within the catalog on the same instance and then back it up as well?
Tks & RegardsHi 860user6196,
And how are you going to recover your database in case of a disaster?
Clearly the catalog won't be available...

The platform is HP-UX PA-RISC 32/64-bit.
Does the OEM grid 10.1.0.2.0 (release 1) support a
10.2.0.1.0 (release 2) database as a repository?I think 10.1.0.2 supports up to 9.2.0.4+ only, during install. Then with later patch versions 10.1.0.3+ you can use 10.1 Database for the repository (migration process required).
10.2 is not supported as a repository database. -
How to move jobs from an old OEM-repository to a new one?
When I installed Oracle 9i Application Server (902), the installer automatically created a new enterprise manager in the infrastructure database, containing many references and settings for the new 9 ias-environment.
However, on the same node another EM (8i database) was already present, containing many, many jobs.
That "old" enterprise manager is not accessible anymore. I changed the portnumbers, but that didn't help - the service can not be started anymore.
Does anyone know how to MOVE the contents from the old OEM to the new OEM? Upgrading the old OEM and transfering by using export/import (see config guide) seems to be no option, because then the IAS-data in the new OEM will be destroyed.Solution on Metalink:

Crystal Reports Server 2008 Repository Database
We've configured a new CRS 2008 server and have a "failed reports" report that worked in the old Crystal Enterprise 10 environment. It would query the repository database CMS_InfoObjects table and report failed reports for the day.
With the new version of Crystal Reports Server 2008 and the new repository database, the ObjName field and others in this table are now varbinary fields.
How can we query this field like we did with the old version to get our "failed reports" report to work?
I can't really find any informatin on the structure, etc. or how to query the repository database.Unfortunately, you can't query it directly from a report. You have to use the query language that comes with the SDK.
I'm not sure whether CRS comes with the same Query Builder tool that comes with BusinessObjects, but if it does you can access it through a url like this: http://<server name>/AdminTools/querybuilder/ie.jsp.
To get the list of failed reports, you would run something like this query:
Select SI_NAME, SI_ID, SI_CREATION_TIME
from CI_INFOOBJECTS
where SI_INSTANCE = 1
and SI_SCHEDULE_STATUS = 3
and SI_CREATION_TIME >= '2010/08/19,00:00:00'
Unfortunately, there is no way to automate this with the Query Builder. You would have to manually run this query every day to get the information you're looking for.
If you can write code in Visual Studio or Java (or have someone available who can do this), this type of thing is not difficult to do in the SDK. You could handle it a couple of ways:
1. Create a program that loads the information to a table in your database and then run a report in CRS that will show that data.
2. Create a program that loads the data into memory and runs a report off of the in-memory data.
Either type of program could be set to run under the Windows Scheduler to automatically provide the information.

I installed EM10gR3 on Linux. I chose Install Grid Control using a New Database option. The database is 10.1.0.4. How can I upgrade repository database to 10.2.0.3? Shall I install Oracle 10.2.0.3 and then use dbua to upgrade?
Thanks,
KevinYes. But first of all check that the 10.2.0.3 Repository is compartible with 10.2.0.3 database. You will find this in the Installation Guide. Then use any upgrade type (DBUA, Upgrade Script etc) to upgrade the database.
