oem isn't available to run on linux - with Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition for Linux you get a copy of OEM for Windows NT and Solaris.

  • OEM Tools Crash

I get the following message when I gry to run many of the tools (oemapp, netasst, etc...).
SIGSEGV received at befffac0 in /usr/X11R6/lib/libXt.so.6. Processing terminated. Writing stack trace to javacore225722.txt...OK Segmentation fault
Sometimes a tool will run if I try running it a second time (like netasst). Oemapp never runs, however. Any idea what the problem is. I am including the javacore file at the end of this message (with XXXXXXXXX.com substituted for my domain).
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Trying to register 10.2.0.3 db in Rec Catalog using OEM, getting errors

    Hi all,
I didn't know whether to post this here in the RMAN forum or in the OEM Grid Control forum, but the issue is more related to RMAN, so I'll post it here, and hope someone can help me out!
I have a new 10.2.0.3 database that I am getting configured to manage using OEM Grid Control. Through the OEM interface, I am trying to register this database with my recovery catalog - the recovery catalog is version 10.02.00.02. When I try to register this new db with the recovery catalog, I am getting this lengthy collection of errors:
Recovery Manager: Release 10.2.0.3.0 - Production on Wed Jan 30 14:58:36 2008 Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All rights reserved. RMAN> connected to target database: INSIGHT (DBID=4016731035) RMAN> connected to recovery catalog database PL/SQL package RMAN.DBMS_RCVCAT version 10.02.00.02 in RCVCAT database is not current PL/SQL package RMAN.DBMS_RCVMAN version 10.02.00.02 in RCVCAT database is not current RMAN> echo set on RMAN> register database; RMAN-00571: =========================================================== RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS =============== RMAN-00571: =========================================================== RMAN-03002: failure of register command at 01/30/2008 14:58:40 RMAN-06004: ORACLE error from recovery catalog database: ORA-06550: line 1, column 2453: PLS-00302: component 'RESTORECMD_T' must be declared ORA-06550: line 1, column 2424: PL/SQL: Statement ignored RMAN> exit; Recovery Manager complete.
It sounds like it has something to do with the fact that my recovery catalog database is not at a current version?? In the OEM tool, I went to the page that lists the Recovery Catalog, and tried hitting the Update button, and it succeeded, but the Recovery Catalog version did not change, it is still at 10.02.00.02.
Can anyone give me some assistance on this one?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    please check with
    select comp_name,status,version from dba_registry;
    COMP_NAME
    STATUS VERSION
    Oracle Database Catalog Views
    VALID 10.2.0.3.0
    Oracle Database Packages and Types
    UPGRADED 10.2.0.3.0
The UPGRADED status is not good. Run utlrp.sql again and then again as rman user the "upgrade catalog". Now it should work fine.
    Bye

  • OEM VS GRID CONTROL

Hi, can anyone please the me the difference between Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) and Grid Control. I would have thought both are the same thing, am I right? or is there any difference between OEM and Grid Control?? Thanks in advance

Grid Control is, first and foremost, a monitoring tool that has the ability to invoke the appropriate administration tool.
In the case of Oracle Database, the majority of the administration tool has been included in the grid control, but that is not universally true. In the case of Oracle Application Server, nearly every administrative action (startup, shutdown, reconfigure) is done by starting up the Application Server OEM tool.
There are many capabilities in Grid Control, related to monitoring and reporting, that are not available in OEM. There are also some capabilities in OEM that are not in Grid Control.
When looking at the entire IT infrastructure for an enterprise, it is not a good idea to consider 'either one or the other', but to consider that OEM and Grid Control are both parts of a complete monitoring and administration solution.

  • How do I move a partition using Windows 7?

I have a relatively new computer that runs on Windows 7 (W7).  This is my first experience with a Windows OS newer than XP.  On systems running XP and older operating systems I was in the habit of using OEM tools for partition management.
This particularly included Partition Magic and GParted.  I have a strong preference for partitioning the hard drive into multiple partitions in order to separate the software, from the user data, and the temporary storage files.  I'm also in the
habit of running more than one operating system partition.  This would include both different operating systems as well as as different instances of the same operating system.
It looks to me like W7 includes more and possibly better partition management software than XP and earlier versions of Windows.  One of the fundamental tasks is the need to move partitions around on a drive.  Partition management software typically
has resizing capability.  I'm accustomed to using such tools where you can either reduce or enlarge the size of the partition.  The parameters that you need to supply include the amount of free space that you want to end up with both before and after
an existing partition.  It looks like the W7 tools only allow you to specify the size that want when the operation is complete.  They do NOT seem to allow you to precisely specify where the resulting partition ends up being located.  It sort
of sounds like the resulting partition is always going to start at the same location, which means that these tools don't let you relocate the partition.  If so that is most unfortunate and represents a serious deficiency.
Is there something I'm missing?  In that, is it possible to move partitions?  If W7 cannot do it are there recommended OEM tools with such capability?  In that, is there a substitute for Partition Magic?

    Hi,
In Windows 7, you can use Disk Management to locate your disk partition. In addition, you can also use Diskpart command in CMD console to allocate the partition.

NOTE: There is no problem when i'm using sqlplus.
    Thank you,

    I've loged in as "scott" user and created few procedure and i worked fine with "scott" user. I don't need to login as "sys". The problem i have here is somehow the fixed table "v$librarycache" doesn't work in procedure. Although, i've grant select any table, create any procedure to scott;

  • Invalid packages, functions and procedures

    Hi,
Ok, I think I screwed up. Maybe someone can help me.
Our dev db which I just created a few days ago is 10.2.01. I was reading to see what needed to be done to this base for it to accept a 9.2 version. Data. I came upon oracle documentation that said to run the catalog.sql script. This had something to do with the Import full database and export full database procedures, they had to be added. So I did. I then noticed all these packages, procedures and functions listed on my oem tool as invalid. To correct this problem I ran the following scipts several times
    On individual schemas: EXEC DBMS_UTILITY.COMPILE_SCHEMA (SCHEMA => ‘OLAPSYS’);
And this one: EXEC UTL_RECOMP.recomp_serial(); for all of them.
But yet I still get invalid objects ( 6 different schemas) when I run this script the SYS owner being the outstanding one.
    COLUMN object_name FORMAT A10
    Column owner format a10
    Column object_name format a40
    SELECT owner,
    object_type,
    object_name,
    status
    FROM dba_objects
    WHERE status = 'INVALID'
    --And owner = 'PUBLIC'
    ORDER BY owner, object_type, object_name;
Any suggestions on repairing this damage short of recreating the database?
    Any suggestions would help.
    Regards,
    al

I just did a flashback database to time. Before I did any of these procedures above. That db came up ok and you would think that everything is fine. I went in to check with the same query
    COLUMN object_name FORMAT A10
    Column owner format a10
    Column object_name format a40
    SELECT owner,
    object_type,
    object_name,
    status
    FROM dba_objects
    WHERE status = 'INVALID'
    --And owner = 'PUBLIC'
    ORDER BY owner, object_type, object_name;
and found the same amount of objects still invalid. I know that I didn't do any work at that time because I was in a meeting. I even logged out and back in on the oem tool and sql plus and got the same invalid in the column.
Anyone knows what is going on here?
    regards,

  • HOW TO VIEW SPATIAL DATA

I don4t know how to view spatial data stored in an oracle database with a graphic representation.
Are any ORACLE product to do this? Or any third party product?
    Thanks

In Oracle 8.1.6, OEM ships with a simple
Java viewer to help you tune your data.
    At the command line, type:
    oemapp sdoadvisor
In Oracle's next release (8.1.7) the JDBC
access to Oracle Spatial types is
much faster (more comperable to OCI access).
You will see the improved performance
    in the OEM tool.
    =====
There is also an unsupported Motif visualizer
    (written in PRO*C and OCI).
You can download the motif viewer at:
    http://technet.oracle.com/products/spatial/
    under "sample code".
It is compiled for Solaris, but you
can compile it for any UNIX platform.
    Hope this helps. Thanks.

  • Delete expired   data guard

    Hi,
I got a question regarding the primary db and the data guard db. I had to reduce the amount of files retained due to space limitations on the primary. When I clicked on the delete expired button and the job is run the files that are deleted on the primary are they also deleted on the data guard db? If not will this cause a problem if when a fail over or switch over is needed?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Good Morning Kam Singh
I just have one additional question that occurred to me last night at home. There was an issue with hard parsing that my ADDM advised increasing my SGA by 2.5 gigs. Someone on the forum here was kind enough to give me the view V$sgainfo to find out how much free memory was available in my system. Well when I interrogated this view it came up with a big fat zero availability. Now from what I understood from my readings was that 10g sga was dynamic. That the memory processes are adjusted to need from information taken from the AWR. At the page where the ADDM listed a button to implement the change (increase) I hesitated until I found out how much free was available. Right now I am glad that I did. My question is If I did click on that implementation button would have the oem tool taken the memory not being used from some other location and allocate it to this spot or would it have returned an error of some kind?
You may have more experience with this and may have come across this situation than I. Do you recall what you did?
Does anyone else recall what they did in this situation?
    Please give advise.
    Regards to all,

  • How to use AWR in 10g?

    Hi All,
I am new to AWR?. How to install and use it for performance data collection and reporting..?

A small correction, AWR does NOT depend on the EM being there or not. If you have statistics_level parameter set, MMON would do this job on the fly and addm would get invoked as well. Yes, you would not be able to see those good looking charts and all that come from EM but having or not having EM doesn't govern your usage of AWR.

  • What is the best way to trace an iFS session ?

Hi, can anyone tell me the best way to capture the sql generated
    by an iFS session ?
I've tried using the traceLogger classes but can't get much out of them
( anyone have sample code for this ? )
Is the only way by looking in the database in v$sqlarea and using OEM tools
    etc ?

I'll assume you really mean "blocked" as opposed to "denied". You can either create an event action filter and subtract the blocked action, or you can add the address to the "never block" addresses.

  • Query on v$flash_recovery_area_usage slow (high I/O)

    Hi,
When I query the view v$flash_recovery_area_usage it takes several sec and causes disk high disk I/O. This is getting worse and worse over time. i'm running 10.2 on Win 2003 x64. Fash Recovery Area is on a raid5 scsi disk sub system etc. and also contains the last Autobackup and the last full backup. I understand that the amount of flastback logs is related to the amount of change in the database.
    1) flashback logs take up 22GB at the moment and i suspect the bigger the number the slow the query on v$flash_recovery_area_usage . Is this correct?
    2) flashback retention is set to 24hrs. The database is small, about 4GB. In OEM Flashback Time 02-Jul-2007 17:48:50 when i posted this (last modified date on the files also go back to this date). Should this not show a time/date of (NOW() - 24Hrs)?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Go into the backup management page where the crosscheck all, delete expired and delete obsolete rman buttons are located. Do a crosscheck all this will update the control file and mark expired for all files outside the retention period. Next click the delete expired, this will delete those records in the control file then do a delete obsolete this will (should) delete all those off the disk. Try this through the oem tool if you are not satisfied go into rman service and run these at the command prompt.
    hope this helps.

  • Blocked Win 8 Bios product key

    Hi,
I bought a new Dell Inspiron with a Bios Win 8 product key.  the problem is that for some reason, this key is blocked.  Dell gave me a new key which works but every 15 mins or so, the msg to activate windows comes up.  When I checked in system,
I can see that Windows somehow goes back to the blocked bios key.  I have to activate it every 15 mins!! How can I solve this? Can I replace the blocked bios key with the new key I have which works?
I tried Formatting (factory state) with recovery disks, through the Dell recovery console and also through the Windows Control Panel.  All to no avail.
    thanks
    Nick

    Hi,
you need to get Dell to fix this, as the manufacturer of the machine, they have the necessary OEM tools.
