% of CPU used...

i was checking out activity monitor while ripping a dvd with handbrake and noticed that handbrake was using 142% of my CPU.
now i don't know much about physics, but i know that more than 100 percent is a purely theoretical concept. so can someone explain to me how to interpret that?

If you have two cores, or two processors, you'll sometimes see processes go over 100%. So in your case, if they were using each core equally, you'd actually be using 71% of each processor.

How to I get music I purchased before the iCloud was created to show up on my new authorized iPhone?  Right now I can only see the Apps I recently purchased on the actual phone but older music I purchased on my CPU using the same Apple ID doesn't appear.

Does any music show in the Purchased tab on the iTunes store app on your phone ? Music can't be re-downloaded in all countries, and even where it can be it will only appear whilst it remains in the store. Do you have your purchases on your computer and/or on a backup of your puchases so that you can sync them to your phone ?

  • Some web pages causing 100% CPU use of iexplore.exe since Flash update

I'm having a problem with certain Amazon.com pages hanging my
Internet Explorer 6 using Flash Player 10,0,12,36, causing 100% CPU
use for iexplore.exe and requiring me to End Task to quit. All the
pages effected have an interactive mouseover Size and Color chart
that intially says "Loading" but then says "Select Size and Color"
once loaded. One mouseovers the various color patches and size
options, each time giving item availability in that option. When
the pages hang the IE browser with 100% CPU use that chart never
gets to the "Select Size and Color" point, instead stuck at the
"Loading" status. This happens most times, but not every time.
Sometimes the pages load correctly, after a brief lag as it loads
    the chart.
Amazon pages without this chart load fine.
The start of this problem coincides with updating Flash.
I can prevent the problem from happening almost every time if
I can quickly get my cursor into that chart area while the page
begins loading. If I allow the pages to load fully with no
interaction they will hang almost every time.
I have not noticed any problems on those same web pages using
    Firefox using Flash Player 9,0,124,0
I also have not noticed any issues with other sites using
Internet Explorer either. (YouTube, QVC, CNN...etc, all OK.)
I had posted for assistance on the Experts Exchange site and
there was some debate on whether the chart was a Java or
Flash-based chart, so initially it was being approached as a
possible Java issue, so I removed all Java versions on the system
and installed various versions, but the same problem persists.
I've downloaded but not run the Flash Uninstaller, as I'm
reluctant to uninstall the Firefox Flash version without knowing
for sure I could install 9,0,124,0 again.
I've downloaded an archived fp9_archive.zip, which seems to
indicate the contained files flashplayer9r124_winax.exe (Internet
Explorer) and flashplayer9r124_win.exe (Netscape) would be versions
9,0,124,0 to install after running the uninstaller.
Can anyone check a few of the links below and see if the
"Select Size and Color" chart is Flash based? If so, would
executing the files listed above install 9,0,124,0 into my
    respective browsers again?

    Hi,

In Windows we can not see background process (mmon, pmon, ...). Can we ?
How to see CPU used by Oracle background process ?
To day CPU was used at 90% by oracle.
I ran an AWR. But nothing about them in it. I wonder why Oracle was CPU intensive ?

    Hi,
You can go to TASK Manager -> click on Resource Monitor and there can see different services/processes along with the amount of CPU they are consuming.
    Hope this helps you.

  • CPU used by this session

Try to get CPU usage from within Oracle by monitoring "CPU used by this session" parameter in v$sysstat, but got some values over 100%. Is my calculation wrong or this is the problem of how Oracle collecting the data? Here's my calculation: CPU Usage (percent) = round((end_value - begin_value) / time_in_seconds, 2)

    Please don't double post: {thread:id=933247}

  • CPU used by oracle user

    Hi,
    on 10 g R2, on Windows SEVER 2003
oracle user SCOTT connect from SQLPLUS and runs a large query. Is there any way to see how much CPU does he use ?
    Thanks.

CPU used by a user(session wise)
    select a.sid, a.username, a.osuser, c.name, b.value
    from v$session a, v$sesstat b, v$statname c
    where a.sid = b.sid
    and b.statistic# = c.statistic#
    and c.name like '%CPU%'
    and a.username='SCOTT'
    order by a.sid, c.name
Per user (session wise) following information:
    1.cpu usages
    2.memory sorts
    3.table scan
    4.commit
    5.cursor
    6.physical reads
    7.logical reads
    8.BCHR (buffer cache hit ratio)
    select a.sid, a.username, a.osuser, c.name, b.value
    from v$session a, v$sesstat b, v$statname c
    where a.sid = b.sid
    and b.statistic# = c.statistic#
    and (c.name like '%CPU%' or c.name like '%sorts (memory)%' or c.name like '%table scan%' or c.name like '%commit%' or c.name like '%cursor%' or c.name like '%read%' or c.name like '%buffer%' or c.name like '%cache%')
    and b.value > 0
    order by a.sid, c.name
If you have the licences for the diagnostic pack and performance pack, you can look at the active session history for this type of information. You can query view DBA_HIST_ACTIVE_SESS_HISTORY, or run the ashrpt.sql script from $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin, or use OEM for a graphic representation of the workload over time.

  • ITunes 11.0.4 - high CPU use

    Hello,
since I upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.8.4. and iTunes to 11.0.4 a couple of days ago, iTunes keeps fooling around using up to 130% of my CPU (how is that even possible?!) when playing music. As soon as I pause the music, the CPU-use goes back to >1%. Before the upgrades I had a big library with over 170GB of music (no only a few albums) and no problems using iTunes whatsoever.
    I run a mid-2010 13" MBP with OSX 10.8.4, 2,4 GhZ Intel Core 2 Duo and 4GB of RAM.
    Thanks in advance!

Yessss! i' ve finally found the issue !
The problem was with "smart play lists" i dunno how you call it in english, but i' ve created a long time ago a smart playlist named "unread" because the "all random" function is not so much random for me, as they play some tracks more often than others...
With as criteria " numbers of play = 0 " so one title is played one time!
By using my brain as good as i can, i told myself " what itunes do when a song ends and then go to the next?"
It wrote something on the smart play list or something like that
Then test from "play all random" = no more issue !
Then deleted my smart play list and recreate one identical = problem solved !
norbml : i hope this help you

  • DW.exe 100% CPU use

    I'm using DW CS3 on a Dell laptop, XP-SP2, 1gig Ram, 1.6ghz
processor. After 15 to 30 minutes of normal behavior DW starts
using 99% of CPU cycles (according to Windows Task Manager) for 3
to 5 minutes, effectively freezing the system. This can happen
while doing normal code editing, or it can happen when absolutely
nothing is going on. It will then release the system, but when you
click on something, it goes right back into 99% CPU use. It doesn't
seem to be associated with file transfers, but Task Manager does
report "I/O Other" activity as though it's doing something on the
    internet.
    Any thoughts out there?
    Thanks!!!

  • Conky - CPU use discrepancy

Just trying out Conky for the first time, and I think everything is working but the CPU load. It seems to be almost inverted from what my CPU load is showing via 'top' or the 'gnome-system-monitor' (e.g. if there's a load of 5% per gnome or top, conky will show cpu use at ~95%).
I've looked through the man page and the sourceforge site and other people's posted conkyrc files online. The values for the process cpu usage seem to be fine, and track with 'top' output.
I have an hp dv6000 (dual amd 64).
Here are the applicable lines from my .conkyrc:
    # number of cpu samples to average
    # set to 1 to disable averaging
    cpu_avg_samples 2
    $color0[ CPU ] $hr $color1
    CPU Usage: ${cpu}% $alignr $freq_g GHz

    Any ideas??
    Thanks, Scott

Yes. It is a HUGE resource hog. I am running win7 64bit with pleanty of HD space, a high-end gaming graphics card, and 16GB ram. It takes a lot of time to enter a symbol (sometimes more than 5 seconds), more time to save, and sometimes brings my computer to a standstill for over a minute. Oh, and Edge also crashes completely on occasion when trying to save or enter a symbol... I hope Adobe fixes this, but I am a Flash developer moving to Edge, so I expect poor-preformance with memory and cpu. Works better if you don't test in firefox. Also exit completely out of the code editor before saving, that helps the save problems.

I think that this is not usefull to troubleshooting, please, What is your recomendation?
Because I needed seek a MAC address that jumps in differents ports into a switch in real time.
2.-Could you please helpme How to get an UP-link report. I need statistics like behavior of UP-links.
3.-I don't find how to obtain a CPU used report of my routers and switches, Can you help me?
    DATA:
    LMS3.1
    Windows2003
    Thanks in advance!!!

The operationally down events in DFM are discovered via periodic polling.  By default, DFM polls every four minutes.  This would explain the time discrepancy you are seeing.  If you need to track MAC address changes in real-time, consider enabling dynamic User Tracking in Campus Manager. See http://SERVER/help/CMcore/CmHelp/ut_UstndingDynamicUpdate.html#wp1434393 (the context sensitive online help) for more details on what dynamic UT is, and how to enable it on your switches.
As for getting a report on CPU usage, you will need to install the Health and Utilization Monitor add-on to LMS.  It ships with LMS 3.1, but you need to purchase a separate license for it.  Out of the box, it comes with a 90-day evaluation license so you can see if it will meet your needs.

  • Excessive cpu use and crashes

I've been having many crashes lately. One of the odd symptoms is that the Activity Monitor shows huge amounts of cpu use graphically, while at the same time showing very little use in the written list. A screenshot is here

Sometimes an app will crash, ask if I want to restart, restart, and crash again.
I went through my fonts tonight and repaired my disk permissions. However, I still get this error message when I run a permissions check:
ACL found but not expected on "System/Library/Frameworks/IOKit.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Info.plist".
    and
ACL found but not expected on "Library".
So far things appear to be ok tonight, but this puppy has been intermittent, so I don't know if my font futzing did any good.
Any ideas on the ACL messages and why the cpu usage was off the charts?
    Tom

ACL stands for "Access Control List." It's a way of restricting who can access what files on your computer. It should not be on the file you listed. You'll need to remove it, which you can find out how to do in OS 10.4 by reading this article:
    http://arstechnica.com/reviews/os/macosx-10-4.ars/8
It is possible that this ACL is what's causing your problems and it's a good place to start. However, I also recommend you boot the computer in Safe mode by restarting while holding down the Shift key. Booting in safe mode runs a lot of maintenance scripts that clear font caches, etc. It may help.

I just posted a reply in the original thread, I guess it's easier to follow this if you have question and answer in one place.
