Off center default sound balance upon boot-up

Whenever I boot up my iMac the sound output balance goes all the way to the left speaker. I set it to center, but the next time I restart the computer it defaults back to the left. Any ideas? It has been that way since I got it.

I have the same problem with mi iMac 21.5 inch late 2009. I restarted it several times. Looks like we need to set its slightly to the right from the center to get the headphones and speaker to the center balance... I haven't found any solution yet...

  • Default Sound Balance and Screen Brightness?

Recently my iBook G4 has been booting up with the screen brightness all the way down and the speaker balance all the way to the left. Did these settings somehow get set as the defaults? How do I change it back to normal so that I dont have to keep changing the settings every time I boot up?

There has been a bug in OSX in regards to sound balance for notebooks since 10.3.5 (IIRC). To fix it look for a free app called Balanced, that should correct the problem.
As for the screen brightness, I've never heard or seen anything like that.

    Hi..
Try Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
If that doesn't help, try Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters
When you post, please tell us which Mac OS X you have installed. Thanks

  • Optical Drive making horrible sounds upon boot!

I have a black Macbook, and my Optical Drive is making horrible sounds when I boot. Now, I'm not sure if it's the Optical Drive or the HDD, but it's coming from the upper right-hand corner.
If this helps, I dropped it earlier today and I could have damaged it. I know the difference between the way it normally sounds when it boots and this. This kind of sounds like when you're inserting a CD into the Optical Drive, but far worse? The sound also happens when you press the Eject button.
Please help me, I need to know if I should bring it into an Apple Store immediately.

I have a mcabook 13 inch (white, not black LOL) that does the same thing. It was used by a guy at my work (it is a work laptop) and when he returned it to me (I am the IT guy) it wouldnt boot up. Warranty fixed this, but the grind is still there. This is the same guy who destroyed the screen on his PC laptop by dropping it down some stairs. So no doubt he has dropped this mac, which I have decided will stay in my personal care
Have you had any info on the issue?

  • Default Sound device with attached USB devices

    Hi,
my situation: i've got an iMac 27" with an attached 24" cinema display (using display port and usb). Also i've plugged in a usb headset (headphone with microphone).
Whenever booting up Mac OSX 10.6.4 (also happened to older version of Mac OSX, at least all 10.6.x versions) OSX sets the default audio device (input, output and system sounds) to the cinema displays audio device. No matter what i choose as the default sound device i have to reset it after every boot.
Does anyone know how to come around this? I know i can easily set the device by alt clicking on the speaker symbol in the menu, i know there are tools out there like SoundSource that let me even more easily set the sound device but all i want to have is a default sound device that doesn't get overridden on every boot.
    Any help?

All right, I seem to have solved it. The fact that it was only working using plughw: should have tipped me off, but at any rate, this is my working ~/.asoundrc:
    pcm.!default {
    type plug
    slave {
    pcm "hw:1,0"
    ctl.!default {
    type hw
    card 1

  • [SOLVED]VGA is off center (Quick question about HDMI)

It seems that the display on my t.v. is off a little...any background I apply has a huge black bar on the left of the desktop and when windows are opened they are cut off on the right...When booting into LXDM or/and other manager the whole display is also off center...I have looked around a lot and tried multiple resolution settings...I am thinking it is so simple a fix that I cannot find it...Please tell me what I am doing wrong...Also, I am using a laptop with a broken screen and I was wondering if HDMI outputs automatically by default? If it does then I am assuming that I just have a bad HDMI cable...Thank you for your time and help in advance

No...there was no settings wrong with the tv...overscan have both been tried off/on...I'll mark this as solved only because I got a new HDMI cable (the old one was in fact bad)...Thank you for your help however....Marking as solved since this problem no longer applies...

  • Video Component Mute Button to Off by Default

    Hello,
I want to set the FLV component Mute button off by default. I
have seen this question asked across many forums but not answered.
All the literature I read it only tells you how to associate
the mute button with the video clip but not how to control it. The
only control is the volume. When set to 0 overrides any toggle of
the mute button and keeps the sound off.
ex. videoclip.muteButton = mute; //mute being instance name
    of the mute button component
Can someone give me any direction on how to set the default
    to mute.
    Thank You, Jacob

There is a Product Specific Configuration Layout option called Hide Video By Default which does exactly that.

  • Re: Profit Center Default

    Hi,
I am trying to configure the 3KEH and 3KEI so that their is a Profit Center default for two particular accounts. I have set up the Derivation Rule and everything looks ok, however, i carry out a posting with those accounts and it does not work. Is there something i am forgetting?
    regards,
    Stephen

    Hello,
3KEH and 3KEI is essentially for Balance Sheet Items.
If you given Expenses accounts in 3KEH it will take, but when you are posting the same account (which is a cost element) and you must be giving a cost center. The profit center is being taken from the cost center. The user entries will prevail than the configuration you have done in 3KEH.
Please make sure the entries you entered in 3KEH are balance sheet accounts.
    Regards,
    Ravi

  • Any way to print off-center?

Since Aperture centers the image on the paper, not within the printer's usable print area, it won't produce a 12x18 print on 13x19 paper on my Epson 4000, because the 4000 has a minimum bottom margin of 0.556". Aperture sets that as the minimum margin on all sides and so prints only 17.88" wide. In Photoshop, I can center the 12x18 image in the printable area, which is more than 18" (19" - 0.556" bottom margin - 0.13" top margin = 18.314"), and I get a full 12x18 image printed off-center on the paper. Aperture does not seem to provide a way to do this - it insists on centering on the paper.
    Anyone know of a workaround?

Thanks for actually addressing the question. Yes, I have set Custom Layout to 12x18, but I cannot set the border to zero - it is automatically set to a minimum of 0.556" and cannot be reduced. I tried setting a custom paper size of 13x18.5 and was able to set the border to 0.25". My thinking was that this would trick the printer into printing closer to the leading edge of the paper, where the printer's margin is smaller (0.13"). Unfortunately, when I did this, the printer kept giving me "incorrect paper size" errors and refusing to print. The 4000 can print borderless only at the long edges of the paper, not at the leading and trailing edges.
I recall that my Epson 2200 had the same margin issues, but it was possible to override the printer's defaults by using a "borderless" paper setting. With the 4000, this seems not to be possible.
As for color, I am very familiar with color management. I let the app manage color, selected the Ilford profile, perceptual rendering, black point compensation, set print rez at 1440, selected the appropriate media, and turned off color management in the driver. I even tried using absolute rendering, figuring this might lock down the neutrality of the b&w, but no. CS3 still rendered skies ever so slightly cyan, where Aperture was more consistent across the tonal range.
Ultimately, I used QuadTone RIP, a lovely little $50 shareware RIP dedicated to B&W printing. Despite the name, it also works with color inks. Does a terrific job. In daylight, my Aperture/Epson driver prints look very neutral. But, under artificial light, I see a slight reddish cast in midtones. Prints made with QTR are neutral under any light and do not suffer from metamerism.
    ...'Case anyone's interested.

  • How can I turn off Start up Sound?

How can I turn off the start up sound, on both my 10.7.5  iMac 24" Late 2006 and my 10.8.3  iMac 27" Late 2009 Mountain Lion.
Plus my Superdrive has stopped working on both Computers. Please help asap.
With kind regards, and many thanks.

The best way to turn off the startup sound is to mute speakers before turning off your computer.
Also, apps that help you turn off the startup sound don't work with iMacs. There's a command that will allow you to turn it off without muting your speakers. See > http://osxdaily.com/2012/11/04/disable-mac-boot-chime/

  • TS1574 optic digital port can't be shut off and the sound of speakers not working! what to do?

optic digital port can't be shut off and the sound of speakers not working! what to do?
this happened after taking out the head-phones. Now even after pressing CMD+ALT+P+R when booting - the sound of booting appeares BUT after the desktop is ready the sound doesn't work and sound buttons show the sign "circle with crossed line"

If there is a red light visible in the audio output port, the switch id stuck.  Insert the earphone jack a few times.  If that fails to trip the switch, try a toothpick or similar device and jiggle it inside the port.  If that fails, try a shot or two of compressed air.  If still no success, go to a repair facility.
    Ciao.

  • Connecting to wireless Networks automatically upon boot

    Hi there all,
I have a G4 Laptop with a Airport wirless card in it. I have successfully connected to my wireless network in my home, but I was wanting to automate this process upon booting OSX. So what I want to know is how can I config OSX so everytime it boots, it will automatically connected to my wireless network(without manually doing it)
    Thanks for the help!
    jlfutari

Hello jlfutari. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
So what I want to know is how can I config OSX so everytime it boots, it will automatically connected to my wireless network(without manually doing it)
First, create a new Location with your Wi-Fi as the "Preferred Network."
Create a new network Location w/Preferred Network
    o System Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort
    o Location: New Location...
    o Name your new location: <enter a location name>
    o Click "OK"
o Click on the "AirPort" tab to select it.
o By default, join: Preferred networks
o Select a "preferred" network from the list, or click "+" to add a new one.
    o Click "Options..."
o If no preferred networks are found: Ask before joining an open network.
    o Click "OK"
    o Click "Apply Now"
Second, setup AirPort to default to the "Preferred Network."
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
o Verify that AirPort is "On" (checked)
o Verify that AirPort is at the top of the list. If it isn't, you can drag it to the top.
Systems Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort
    AirPort tab
o By default, join: Preferred networks

  • How to set default sound output

How do I set the default sound output?  I'm outputting to a USB converter but Mavericks switches to internal speakers on its own with no warning, most times in the middle of a song. Doesn't matter whether I'm using iTunes or a 3rd party music playback app.

I too have the same setup as you and use my streamer with all of my Apple devices. I've found it necessary to turn off Bluetooth in the devices I don't want to connect to when they are all within range of one another. If you don't need Bluetooth on your Mac turn it off. I've also found that if I'm connected to my Mac and a call comes in to my iPhone that the phone will take priority.

  • Extremely slow, constant freeze upon boot up and apps

I turned my pb12" on lately and it is very very slow, upon boot up now the scroll wheel of death is on and it will not boot to the desktop finder. So my question is this:
what the heck is going on??
    I reset the pram
would not boot in safe mode
    have 10gigs free
    1gig ram
nothing unusual document or app wise lately
just about a few weeks ago it started to become sluggish to non productive.
any ideas as to how I can remedy the situation.
    Much appreciated

Hi, Petoosh, and welcome to the discussions.
    a) there are more people here with similar problems as yours. I recommend that you search the forum in order to see how they solved their problem. Did you "repair permissions"?; did you check the HD and memory?
    b) MORE IMPORTANT: make sure that you have everything backed up. Just in case...
    c) can you boot from the install disk?
what happens if you take off all peripherals (printer, external disk, internet connection)?
hope this helps. Please post back in any case.
