Off center error bars

I'm using AI CS2, and am running OSX 10.3.9.
I use the copy/ paste function to copy graphs from a graphing program (Kaleidagraph) into illustrator. Whenever I paste a line graph with error bars, the error bars are always slightly off center to the object they are supposed to be centered on. When I paste the same graph into another program, the error bars are centered so I know this is an illustrator problem. Other components might be off center as well, but it is only the error bars that are noticeable.
I know this problem is fixable as someone managed to change something in illustrator to stop the off center problem when pasting into illustrator, but unfortunately that person can't remember how they did it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply Eileen,
Though that's not quite my problem. The line graphs I'm talking about will have several shapes in a line, (ie. a circle). When I make a graph, the circles will have a straight line down the middle of the circle (the error bar). When I than past this graph into illustrator, illustrator for some reasons off sets the straight lines of the center of the circle. The off set is less than 1pt, but is still noticeable. And it does it every time.

  • Standard Error Bars in charts

    I would like to know if anyone has used std. error bars (as
    in statistics) in column or bar charts and how that was
    accomplished. I didn't see anything about it in the flex
    docs.

    Frustrating that these aren't included by default, isn't
    it...
    I'm sure the questioner long since has solved his problem or
    given up, but since I've been unable to find any solutions myself
    and have had to reinvent the wheel, I'll try and point anyone else
    looking in the right direction.
    One way to do it is to create your own IDataRenderer (or
    extend or facade an existing one). You'll want to make sure you're
    passing a standard deviation as part of your series data and then
    in the updateDisplayList method draw it yourself, grabbing the
    deviation from the data.item. You'll need to scale it
    appropriately... for instance, extend CircleItemRenderer and add an
    updateDisplayList along the lines of:
    override protected function
    updateDisplayList(unscaledWidth:Number,
    unscaledHeight:Number):void
    super.updateDisplayList(unscaledWidth, unscaledHeight);
    if (data.hasOwnProperty('item') &&
    data.item.hasOwnProperty('deviation')) {
    // figure out the scale (I'm certain there must be a more
    appropriate way to do this)
    var scale:Number = data.y / data.item.value;
    var deviation:Number = data.item.deviation as Number;
    var g:Graphics = graphics;
    var stroke:IStroke= new
    Stroke(0,1,1,false,'normal','square');
    stroke.apply(g);
    // figure out the center
    var trueX:Number = unscaledWidth / 2 - .5; // otherwise
    seems to be off to the side, for me
    var trueY:Number = unscaledHeight / 2;
    // draw the error bar
    g.moveTo(trueX,-(deviation * scale) + trueY);
    g.lineTo(trueX,(deviation * scale) + trueY);
    g.moveTo(trueX, trueY);
    // draw little T's on the end of the error bar
    g.moveTo(trueX -2, -(deviation * scale) + trueY);
    g.lineTo(trueX +2, -(deviation * scale) + trueY);
    g.moveTo(trueX -2, (deviation * scale) + trueY);
    g.lineTo(trueX +2, (deviation * scale) + trueY);
    From there you should be able to futz with it to make it look
    pretty.
    Hope someone finds this helpful.

  • FaceTime Camera Off-center on iPhone 6

    Has anyone else noticed their FaceTime (front facing) camera on their iPhone 6 to be off center? My original phone was off by quite a bit, and was swapped out by the Genius Bar for a new one. It was perfect at the time I received it (few days ago) but now appears to start shifting out of center, as apparent by a slight white crescent shape on the top right (I'll post pictures later today).

    look at mine, I've got detailed picture showing its the film around the camera thats moved, not the camera itself... very annoying defect. seems to be most/all space grey iPhone 6

  • Any way to print off-center?

    Since Aperture centers the image on the paper, not within the printer's usable print area, it won't produce a 12x18 print on 13x19 paper on my Epson 4000, because the 4000 has a minimum bottom margin of 0.556". Aperture sets that as the minimum margin on all sides and so prints only 17.88" wide. In Photoshop, I can center the 12x18 image in the printable area, which is more than 18" (19" - 0.556" bottom margin - 0.13" top margin = 18.314"), and I get a full 12x18 image printed off-center on the paper. Aperture does not seem to provide a way to do this - it insists on centering on the paper.
    Anyone know of a workaround?

    Thanks for actually addressing the question. Yes, I have set Custom Layout to 12x18, but I cannot set the border to zero - it is automatically set to a minimum of 0.556" and cannot be reduced. I tried setting a custom paper size of 13x18.5 and was able to set the border to 0.25". My thinking was that this would trick the printer into printing closer to the leading edge of the paper, where the printer's margin is smaller (0.13"). Unfortunately, when I did this, the printer kept giving me "incorrect paper size" errors and refusing to print. The 4000 can print borderless only at the long edges of the paper, not at the leading and trailing edges.
    I recall that my Epson 2200 had the same margin issues, but it was possible to override the printer's defaults by using a "borderless" paper setting. With the 4000, this seems not to be possible.
    As for color, I am very familiar with color management. I let the app manage color, selected the Ilford profile, perceptual rendering, black point compensation, set print rez at 1440, selected the appropriate media, and turned off color management in the driver. I even tried using absolute rendering, figuring this might lock down the neutrality of the b&w, but no. CS3 still rendered skies ever so slightly cyan, where Aperture was more consistent across the tonal range.
    Ultimately, I used QuadTone RIP, a lovely little $50 shareware RIP dedicated to B&W printing. Despite the name, it also works with color inks. Does a terrific job. In daylight, my Aperture/Epson driver prints look very neutral. But, under artificial light, I see a slight reddish cast in midtones. Prints made with QTR are neutral under any light and do not suffer from metamerism.

  • Y Error Bars

    So for my biology class i have to graph a great deal of statistic based ecology stuff. Doing these graphs is very easy, but since it is statistically based, I have to do "Y Error Bars" which means the actual Y value could be between the "Y Error Bar." Im pretty sure numbers doesn't have this feature, but I am hoping I just missed it, so if anyone could help, it would be great appreciated!
    And, this is off subject, but in anyones opinion is iworks or is microsoft office 2008 for mac better. I thought iworks was great, but lately I'm having a lot of trouble, and I'm trying to decide if it would be work it to buy microsoft office 2008, anyways any help would be greatly appreciated, thank!
    Aaron

    Dear LaCoste890:
    To date, Numbers fails to provide a feature allowing one to insert custom error bars. This is a major failure.
    As an Apple fan, I would love to move from Microsoft Office to iWork. However, to date, both Pages and Numbers are lightweight programs lacking sufficient functionality to use for scientific applications. As an academic physician/scientist, I am quite disappointed.
    Pages fails due to its lack of integration with EndNote, which is, for me, a critical reference manager program. This is a shame, because I enjoy some of the excellent formating options that Pages offers.
    Numbers fails due to its inability to use custom Y error bars, as you have noted. Scientific graphs lacking error bars are, of course, quite useless. Here the shame is that graphs generated on Numbers are much more attractive and just as easy to format. Also, Apple is really losing an opportunity, since MS Office '08 is really buggy on OS 10.5.
    Scientists and students need to put serious pressure on Apple to fix these features. Otherwise, we will simply abandon the suite for MS Office, and no real innovation will take place.

  • LV 2009 error bar plots suggestions

    I have mentioned my mixed feelings about the new error bar plot introduced in 2009 on the info-labview list and have been asked to move this discussion to this forum.
    So there it goes:
    Introducing the possibility to natively display plots with error bars associated with each data point is a nice touch that brings LV one step closer to being a full-fledged data analysis and representation environment. However, the feature is limited in allowing only a single axis error bar (and on the Y axis only). This might come from NI's hardware bias (time recording of waveforms, in which the time axis does not have any "error" to it, being clock driven). Some of us use LV for a tad more than just recording waveforms and displaying them. We use complex instruments, process our data extensively, and when times come to plot a XY graph (and this is true for higher dimensionality data too), each coordinate (X, Y, etc) of each data point may be affected by a statistical or experimental uncertainty.
    In this kind of situation, each data point should be represented as a center point with two orthogonal error bars (with different sizes, and possibly, as offered in the new error plot, different plus and minus error bars). In most cases, the plus and minus error bars will be identical (representing the standard deviation of the data), so it would be advantageous to have an option that allows specifying that and avoid passing twice the same array of error bars to the plot formatting VI.
    Note that introducing this feature wouldautomatically bring up the request to have fitting algorithms that take this kind of dual axis error bar representation into account (which most data analysis software do nowaday).
    I hope this brief suggestion will be supported by other fellow LabViewers...
    X.

    All,
    These are great suggestions, and we always enjoy getting feedback from real-world situations where LabVIEW could help out more.  I really think this should be thrown on the LabVIEW Idea Exchange. Our development team looks over all the suggestions there, and it would have much more visibility than just being posted in this thread.
    Also, while you are there, be sure to vote on ideas that you like!  Some of the top ideas are so obvious, you will be surprised they weren't implemented already!

  • PSD CS4 - Cursor is off center, help!

    When I am using any tool (Smudge, Brush, Pen, etc.) in PSD CS4 (Mac 10.5.8) my tool is off center.
    Here is an example: I have a blank white page and a brush tool (200 pixels, 100% hardness) with the color black assigned to it and I click in the center of the page to create a round dot. The dot is not on the spot where I clicked, instead it shows up below the point where I clicked, about 10 pixels off center. It's always 10 pixels off center no matter how big the brush.
    It's impossible to work this way. I am at a total loss as to how to fix this problem. I've Googled and searched the Adobe Forums and can't find a solution.
    Photo of my problem is attached.

  • [SOLVED]VGA is off center (Quick question about HDMI)

    It seems that the display on my t.v. is off a little...any background I apply has a huge black bar on the left of the desktop and when windows are opened they are cut off on the right...When booting into LXDM or/and other manager the whole display is also off center...I have looked around a lot and tried multiple resolution settings...I am thinking it is so simple a fix that I cannot find it...Please tell me what I am doing wrong...Also, I am using a laptop with a broken screen and I was wondering if HDMI outputs automatically by default? If it does then I am assuming that I just have a bad HDMI cable...Thank you for your time and help in advance

  • Quicktime window starts off-center

    When I start a QuickTime movie, the window is off-center, such that the right and bottom edges are off the screen.  So I have to move the window (or double-click the title bar) to see the max, min, and close buttons in the upper-right.  This is in Windows 7.  Is there a way to get it to open in maximized view or at least where the entire window is visible?

    A QuickTime display preference may have blown up for you.
    If that's what is afoot, rebuilding the QuickTime preferences can help, although it can be a bit of a trial to track them down on the 64-bit systems.
    Close any of the QuickTime Player buttons that are currently in your taskbar.
    Now we need to change some view settings on the PC. (The preferences are kept in hidden folders.)
    In your Start menu, open Computer.
    In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
    In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected.
    Click OK.
    Next we'll navigate to your AppData folder.
    In Computer, open Local Disk C:\ or whichever drive your user documents are stored on.
    Open the "Users" folder.
    Open the folder with the name of the Windows User account in which the QuickTime Player isn't displaying properly.
    Open the "AppData" folder.
    Now the hunt for the QuickTime preferences begins.
    Open the "Roaming" folder.
    Open the "Apple Computer" folder.
    Do you see a "QuickTime" folder in there? If so, drag that out onto the Desktop. Now try launching the QuickTime Player.
    If there was no QuickTime folder in \Roaming\Apple Computer\, or if the QuickTime Player still isn't displaying properly
    Quit any QuickTime player buttons in the Taskbar.
    Go back into the "AppData" folder.
    Open the "Local" folder.
    Open the "Apple Computer" folder.
    Do you see a "QuickTime" folder in there? If so, drag that out onto the Desktop. Now try launching the QuickTime Player.
    If there was no QuickTime folder in \Local\Apple Computer\, or if the QuickTime Player still isn't displaying properly
    Quit any QuickTime player buttons in the Taskbar.
    Go back into the "AppData" folder.
    Open the "LocalLow" folder.
    Open the "Apple Computer" folder.
    Do you see a "QuickTime" folder in there? If so, drag that out onto the Desktop. Now try launching the QuickTime Player.
    Any of those measures help with the display problem?

    Using the printable CD feature, I find the image placement prints off center. At first they were slightly off to the left which was no big deal. But the last few I printed came out noticeably shifted toward the bottom leaving a sliver of white at the top.

    That would mean at best that the Epson printer driver plays nice with Apple's Preview but not with your version of Photoshop.
