Off-center Printouts in Mac OS X V10.5

All print outs are shifted to the left. Word, Appleworks, Mail, Websites everything

Are the internal pages from your printer (demo/donfig/diagnostics) also shifted?  What printer?  What driver?

  • Allow administrators to turn airport on or off in Mac OS X v10.4.10

    Hello there,
The school district I work for has a lot of Mac OS X v10.4.10 laptop clients, connected to Airport Extreme base stations and third party access points (Proxim 4000) bound to Mac OS X Server v10.4.11 Open Directory Master.
Even though students and laptops are managed by MCX, students still have access to the Airport icon in the Menu Bar to "Turn Airport Off" or "Turn Airport On" option, which is a major headache as the network home folder connection is lost and students have to restart the computer to resume normal operation.
In Leopard there is a new feature in the System > Network > Airport, it is called "Require Administrator password to control Airport" which allows only administrators to turn airport on or off option, so students don't intentionally "Turn Airport Off".
What can be done in Tiger to achieve this capability?
In addition, I would very much appreciate if there is the same type of solution to the Battery Status icon from the Menu Bar, where students can change the Energy Saving settings.
    Thank you,
    Alim

If you run Software update on your Mac you should be able to update your OS to 10.4.11. Incremental updates are free and since you are already running 10.4.10 I can't see any particular reason your computer won't run 10.4.11.

  • 2013 27" iMac using mini displayport to VGA, external monitor off center.

I recently purchased a new 2013 iMac 3.5 i7 and connected two external monitors. The minidisplayport to DVI adaptor works fine on one monitor but the minidisplayport to VGA is off center on the 2nd monitor. There is a 2" black band on the left side of the screen. I've replaced the adaptor, cable and tried on two different monitors. I've also tried repositioning image in the monitor settings which it can't move far enough. It only happens on 1920 x 1024. Any other resolution is fine. Other than that it works fine, but this space is going to drive me nuts. Because these are 23" monitors I really would like the highest resolution possible. I'm stuck. Any thoughts?

Update: I switched to DVI and it worked perfectly. I guess there could be an issue with the mini displayport to vga adaptor on the 2013 iMac. I also tested it on a 2012 mac mini and the vga operated as it should.

  • Lightroom printing is off center

Hello all,  I just replaced my home computer after it got fried from an electrical surge.  While I was at it, I moved from a PC with XP to a Mac Pro with Snow Leopard.  I had to transfer my Adobe License for Photoshop too and moved to CS5.  The move has been great so far,  but when I print out of Lightroom 2.7 with my Epson 3800 my prints are either off center or off the page.  Printing with my previous PC setup was perfect and now I am totally baffled.  I am in a bit of a time crunch too,  as I need to get a photo shoot printed and delivered to a client.  I even thought about dowloading the Lightroom 3 Beta to see if this would give me a temporary solution.  Any one have any ideas?  I have been searching the web for a few days looking  for a solution and my tech person is baffled too.
    Many Thanks,
    J. Paul

Make sure to visit the Page Setup dialog and select your printer model (3800) from the "Format For" popup menu, and the page size from the "Paper Size" popup menu:
    See suggested steps here:

Then set the margins appropriately in LR's Layout tab.

  • Macbook Pro Off-Center on LCD TV

I am wanting to use my Macbook Pro hooked to a Samsung 32" LCD TV as a secondary display. When I attempt to set the Samsung resolution to 1360x768 in Mac's display preference, the image is off-center with a black band down the left side of the tv. I have used the dvi to vga supplied with my macbook, and have vga going into the set. When i set the resolution to 1024x768 the image is centered (but stretched).
Anyone else seen this? Any suggestions? I have searched the forum and the entire interweb, but cannot find anything.
    Thanks!

Yes, DVI-to-HDMI is probably your best bet.

  • My Macbook Pro with 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo (Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger) can convert to Lion?

my Macbook Pro with 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo (Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger) can convert to Lion?
    Toyoo

These are some of the most common Questions (Q) and Answers (A) about Lion:
Q: What are the system requirements of the Lion upgrade?
A: Core2Duo, Core i3, i5, i7, and Xeon Intel CPUs with 2 GB of RAM in a Macintosh computer with 2 GB of RAM, and 4 GB (7 GB after installed) for downloading from the Mac App Store (Available in 10.6.6 and later). Unofficially, past upgrades have arbitrarily also required an additional 15% of the hard drive to be free for data.
Q: What applications are compatible with Lion?
A: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table provides a nice third party editable listing for people to include the compatible applications. Many of these compatibility entries came from before Lion's release. Please verify they are correct now that it has been released, and help edit it for more accurate data. Be sure to include any update version of Lion post release that you have found is or is not compatible with it, for the help of others who may be upgrading to Lion the first time. Additionally, as it was released, there is no Rosetta. This means any application that is stated to be PowerPC in the System Profiler, will not work with Lion, and needs a comparable application or upgrade to be compatible. The System Profiler is in Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info. Intel and Universal applications are on the whole supported, though may still need some tweaking before every feature is compatible.
Q: Are there any pitfalls to watch out for?
A: With all upgrades, backing up your data at least twice has been a given. Hardware can fail independently of downloads and upgrades, though may happen simultaneously. Software may be found to be incompatible that has not been tested with the new upgrade, or combination of other software that might be installed with the upgrade. It is also strongly recommended once your backup is complete, to shut down your computer, remove all but Apple wired keyboard and mouse (notebooks remove all input devices). Then once done, reboot, and go directly to the upgrade distribution system available. Third party system tools, modification, and "maintenance" applications should be verified as compatible, or removed until known to be compatible. Check with developers how to remove if it is essential to use Lion before those applications become compatible. Most "maintenance" tools that deal with system cache, prebinding, are not really maintenance tools. Ask on forum when are the appropriate times to use them before assuming they should be used for upgrades or otherwise.
    Q: How can I get from 10.4 or 10.5 to 10.6.6?
A: Purchase a 10.6 retail installer from an Apple retail or third party reseller. It has a picture of a Snow Leopard on the DVD, and does not say Upgrade, Dropin, or OEM. Install it, and then install the 10.6.6 combo update from:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1349
Q: Is it true that I can only get it from the Mac App Store?
A: Presently this truth is based on current documentation as of the writing of this article. It may change, but we can't speculate as to its change. It has a better chance of changing if users request something different at:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Q: What limitations might one encounter if it doesn't change?
A: First off the 7 GB space limitation on the hard disc after it is installed. Secondly, the size of the download file requires significant time, unless you have a high speed broadband connection. Times expected are below -
    4 GB at:
    5Mbps is 2 hours.
at 1 Mbps is 10 hours.
at 384 kbps is 27 hours.
at 56k kbps is 184 hours (nearly 8 days).
If you include the 10.6.6 combo update of 1.06 GB
add 29 minutes for 5 Mbps
    145 minutes (2 and 25 minutes) for 1 Mbps
    6 and a half hours for 384kbps
A 24 hour day and 15 hours (for a total of a minimum of 39 hours) for 56kbps
Remember the retail 10.6 currently does not include the App Store, and those upgrading from 10.5.8 or earlier will need to both buy the retail 10.6, and download the combo 10.6.6 update, not to mention ensure they have the correct processor and 2 GB of RAM. Finally once it is available, you'll have find out how long approximately it takes to install after the download is complete.
These times do not include installation time, which on a MacBook Pro 3,1 15" installing on a Firewire 800 Newertech Voyager with WD10ACS-322J80 drive, 10.6.7, took 1 hour and a half to complete the installation from double clicking the install command to the registration screen. These times may vary by connection speeds from a non-dedicated connection, or background application usage of the internet. Any applications running when the installation process begins might interfere with the installation itself, and they should be quit first.
The installer just before it starts has in its package contents an InstallESD.dmg file a DVD burnable image to install on additional computers in the home without downloading over again. So if you desire to reinstall without an extra internet download, extract that file, by selecting the installer in the dock, and control-clicking it, and revealing it in the Finder. Next Control-mouse click it, and select show package contents. Inside that folder is a Shared Support folder. That's where you find the DMG.
Q: If I purchased a Mac recently, can I get it cheaper?
A: Yes, visit http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/ for details.
Q: When will Lion become available?
    A: It became available July 20, 2011.
Q: Which Macs can run Lion?
A: Look at Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info, and see if you meet the Machine ID and RAM requires under the hardware. 2 GB is required for all These Machine IDs will run Lion:
    Mac Mini 2,1 and later
    MacBook 2,1 and later.
    iMac 5,1 and later.
    All MacBook Air.
    MacBook Pro 2,1 and later
    All MacPros.
The Macs with the Machine IDs below will not run Lion (x can be any number):
Mac Mini 1,x or PowerMac x,x
    MacBook 1,x
    MacBook Pro 1,x
    iMac 4,x, 3,x, 2,x, 1,x

  • Layer disappears in Safari, off center in Firefox, but perfect in Internet Explorer!

I have a layer of a quicktime file on top of a jpeg image. In Safari 3.1, there is nothing but the jpeg. In Firefox 2.0.0.14, the quicktime box is off to the left and works, though off-center. In Internet Explorer 5.2 (Mac), the quicktime file works as it is supposed to and it is placed correctly.
    See: http://www.wissmedia.com/
I am using CS1 GoLIve. This is the first time I have worked with layers.
Any clues as to what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks.

The QuickTime file is working for me in Safari. Still having Safari problems there, or was that already fixed? Are the right QuickTime plug-ins already installed for Safari?
The difference placement by the different browsers is probably more due to the size of your browser window than anything else - change the width of your browser window and you'll see that the page content centers while the Layer stays put, as it's positioned from the top and left edges of the page. To get the layer to center with the rest of the content, see this tutorial:

  • PSD CS4 - Cursor is off center, help!

When I am using any tool (Smudge, Brush, Pen, etc.) in PSD CS4 (Mac 10.5.8) my tool is off center.
Here is an example: I have a blank white page and a brush tool (200 pixels, 100% hardness) with the color black assigned to it and I click in the center of the page to create a round dot. The dot is not on the spot where I clicked, instead it shows up below the point where I clicked, about 10 pixels off center. It's always 10 pixels off center no matter how big the brush.
It's impossible to work this way. I am at a total loss as to how to fix this problem. I've Googled and searched the Adobe Forums and can't find a solution.
Photo of my problem is attached.
Thank you from desperate, aka Dimitry

Rotate through the Screen Modes by hitting the key F three times.
Edit: The error happens when opening a file or creating a new file in Full Screen Mode.

  • Ordered prints. Several were cut off at edges or were printed off center. How do I prevent this in the future?

Ordered prints from my Mac library to Apple. Several came back cut off or printed off-center. How do I prevent this in the future?

How do I prevent this in the future?
Before ordering any print product proof it by creating a PDF file of it according to this Apple document:    iPhoto, Aperture: Previewing an order in iPhoto or Aperture.  Save the PDF file to compare with the printed copy when it arrives.
For this book contact Apple via the 800-275-2273 phone number. Apple has been very good a correcting problems.  They gave me a refund so I could order again.

  • MacBook built-in iSight camera off center

    Hi Folks,
Is there any way to re-align the built in iSight camera on a MacBook? In order to be centered in the image, I have to turn my MacBook about 8 or 9 degrees to the left. If I am sitting directly in front of the camera, I am off-center. Any help is appreciated. My girlfriend and I both have MacBooks, and her camera appears to be aligned properly.

  • Printing off center with splix and gdi drivers

I was just installing cups to get printing working with my Samsung ML-1740 printer. There are two drivers, I found, available for it splix and gdi. Splix is supposed to be the better driver, but I found both print pages off center, to the right, splix more so (about 1/8 inch) than gdi. Is there anyway to correct for this globally on my system? I'd rather not have to modify the margin settings in every document manually. Or is this just a bug and going to have to be addressed by the authors of the drivers?

When printing using Acrobat Reader, the problem with me was DOH, the paper was jiggling around in the paper feeder. I tightened up the guides and got better results sideways, and ok with the length.
However, the person I am doing the job for continued to have problems, and it was not until he sent me a printout from his HP all in one printer that I suspected that his cheap printer was trying to HELP matters.
I had run the background color full bleed to the very edges of the paper. Easier to find out where the off center problem was. He was pretty good on the vertical centering, but the bottom of the card really showed a distinctive problem. The ink stopped printing at EXACTLY the usual 1/2" margin on the bottom, where one would normally break apart or trim the cards. In addition, the HP apparently pulled this edge 1/8" up. I think the HP was trying to HELP us idiots from running the live area (ie, type) right to the crop edges.
So, I changed the design, removed all physical crop marks (used only for gauging how the pages were printing in relation to the scored biz card stock) and removed the background color bleed from the bottom...actually redesigned all cards so there would be no bleeds at all, He seemed to think that solved the problem, and the HP did not feel inclined to help. And it did not vertically shrink the pdf image to the safe live area.
It's hard dealing with someone with very rudimentary skills in these things. Even phone conversations weird. He didn't understand that all the ten cards were now one pdf image, and that Avery template would not help in this case.
He's waiting to get more card stock for his biz cards, and will finally see if it printed right for him.

  • The Video is off center

hey i have been having a problem with my video being off center on my TV moniter using Firewire as i work. i have a lower 3rd for text that i use but it
looks off center. in the Canvas window the text and lower 3rd is right on and this also shows up on a DVD that i make every thing is on the right just a bite help
    g5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)
    g5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Are you using a tv or an actual production monitor? If its a tv, they can get off center sometime. You might try going into the menu settings on it and seeing if there is a way to adjust it.
Otherwise just judge by looking at the canvas. If its centered on the canvas then your fine. If you're really paranoid check it using another tv or burn to DVD and check it.

  • Deskjet 5740 won't scale to fit page; image off-center

I am using HP DJ 5740 over network via Airport Express. Driver is "HP5700 Series, v3.1.1" Neither of my Macs can correctly scale an oversized document to fit the page -- the command seems to be ignored, the preview picture never changes, the result is cropped off. The image looks off-center -- 7/8" on left, 1/8" on right, 5/8" on bottom (for page printed from Safari, ie no Word margins involved). And (for example) if I print a calendar month from iCal, the image is clipped on the left/bottom.
None of these symptoms occur when I print to the same printer from the Windows XP laptops on the same network. Ideas?

Another tack that you may think worth trying: define a custom paper size that’s actually the standard letter size in dimensions but has zero (or very small) margins: you can save it as "Letter Borderless" or something. Then choose that size for your page setup. This might help convince Preview (or whatever other app) not to crop the image.
What format is the scanned file in? What does Preview’s Get Info say about its dimensions? It may be that the headers specifying the sample density are missing or malformed, because in theory an actual-size scan should print at actual size without using a fit-to-page option. If you find you need to resize the image, try and do so without resampling (that is, just change the nominal resolution).

  • IChat issues with Mac OS X v10.6.2

I try to connect this morning with my business partners via iChat and it didn't work after installing last night Mac OS X v10.6.2. Before the update it was working perfectly.
Wish I had not installed this update yesterday, it did more harm than good.

(?) I followed the instructions from the install program. I went to sleep last night, turn off the Mac and get back to work this morning with the surprise that iChat is not working a 100%.
Let me correct myself, I didn't explain in detail my problem. iChat works but when I try to share my screen it is not connecting. I didn't try to connect the video, but I will do it tomorrow. Any ideas why the connections was unsuccessful?
