Off line clips; disappearing audio; and disappearing previews

My main computer has been in the shop for 2 weeks, so I have been using a laptop (dual core, 1.5 gig ram and with XP). It has a single partition with 30% free space (with most video clips stored on a removable hard drive). I have not yet downloaded the upgrade for CS3.
I have encountered 3 major problems with Cs3 on this computer that hasnt existed on my other computer. Every time I reload the project, the previews disappear from the timeline -but they are still in the preview folder; and I need to re render. The two clips that are overlaid on other clips immediately go off line; but they reappear when moving the clips away from their position and back again. Now in new problem today, some of the audio has mysteriously disappeared when previewing in real time. The audio woks, but not when real time previewing. (The audio worked fine yesterday.)
Any suggestions?

Updating should fix both problems.

  • Off-line clips in Bin in use in Sequence?

I open a complex project and I'm told that two clips are missing. They appear as off-line in the Bin (red stripe over them).
I try to find the clips in the sequence, but it'll take me either 2 hours to listen through the movie, or perhaps even longer to enlarge the sequence and try to find any "white clips" in the Sequence.
So, is there any easy way to tell if a clip could simply be deleted from the bin, thus get rid of the "Missing files" message?
I might be able to find the original CDDA Tracks, but if they already are on disc and in use, I won't have to...

Put the offline clips from the Browser in the Viewer, then perform a match frame a few times in them... that should make the the playhead in the Timeline jump to the same frame... the match frame must be done with the Viewer active. You can keep the offline clips too, just tell FCP to ignore them when you open the project file then save... they won't be asked for anymore.

  • My clips went offline and disappeared from capture scratch folder

I was editing a project in final cut express, a movie of my newborn daughter, and was almost finished. The clips had bin logged and transferred into my sequence. Next morning started the nightmare; almost all the clips had vanished...
The timeline was full of red boxes that said media was offline. Clips i had rendered were still ok, and clips i had captured from another camera were playing.
Reconnecting the media did not work. The strange thing is that all the clips i had not used in timeline, but was located in the bin, are still ok. They are still in the capture scratch folder. Its just the clips i had used in timeline that are gone. I have searched my mac for the lost clips, but can`t find them. The clips are deleted from my camera, and i have no backup. Stupid me...
Has someone experienced something similar, or know what to to? Are my clips gone forever?
I have also tried to find i program that can recover deleted files from videocamera (avchd), but the programs i tried so far can just find jpeg files, no video...
    Hoping for an answer

    Hi Ian,
The directory is part of each hard drive's 'soft structure.' It is created when you partition & format the drive; and then constantly maintained & updated by the OS and drive controller as you use the drive. Just connecting an external HD to another Mac won't resurrect the directory.
DiskWarrior and similar utilities can help recover corrupted directories & lost files, but their success depends on the kind & degree of corruption. Most times when something happens to the directory, the files are still intact on the drive - that's why they can be recovered. However the likelihood of recovery decreases quickly if you continue to write to the drive after corruption occurs. That's why it's important to stop saving, copying or moving folders or files on the drive as soon as you notice a problem.

  • Audio And Video Preview

    Hi all!
Is it possible that when you press the spacebar to preview an audio file, video or photo from reproducing while you browse other directories?
    I've got OS X 10.6.8
Thanks! (Sorry for my bad English)

Do you have bootable backup clone(s) you can revert to? (Having at least one, preferably two bootable backup clones of your system drive is highly recommended. One at home and one at a different place (at work,...) in case of fire or burglary)
If you have one, boot from there, see if the problem is there as well...
If the problem is not present there you can consider cloning this backup to your internal drive.
Or If you have Time Machine, you can restore your system to the state it was before these troubles started.
did you do updates to your system recently, or install new software? That could be a possible cause...

  • "media off-line" screen

When I opened my file (project)  all of the audio and video clips were replaced with "Media Off-Line" clip.  What's up?

Details, especially version of Premiere Elements, computer operating system, and etc are important.
Pending more information, you probably moved or deleted the source media that went into your project after you saved closed the project.
Another explanation is that you stored the project media on an external hard drive and, after you saved closed the project, something happened to the external hard drive (one example, drive letter changed).
Please check out the merits of the Project Archiver found under File Menu/Project Archiver with its Archiver and Copy options.

  • Random photos dropping off line

While working on a sequence, some of the photos dropped off line. Some times I can see the thumbnail on the time line, if I just touch the red "off line" clip. However, if I scroll down the time line (lets just say at 3:00 minutes), then go back to the original thumbnail photo (lets say at 1:30), it goes red again.
None of my photos were moved, and are intact at their same location. Even in "reveal in finder," shows them in the same location.
Why is this happening, and will this effect my final project when I export to a Quicktime movie?

I "right clicked" on the clip, then chose "reveal in finder." Obviously that doesn't reconnect the path.
That's right, this option only tells you where the file is located.
At the bottom of that list is Reconnect Media. You use the options to navigate to the original media then reconnect.
In the cascading menu: File>Reconnect Media is another way to do the same job.

  • After detaching audio, audio and visual shift

After I detached the audio from the video in a trimmed clip, the audio and visual both shifted from what point in the clip they were located before, making the person repeat what they just said. How can I fix this? I know better than to hope for a magical preference setting that will solve everything, but why does this happen? And how can I fix it? Are other people experiencing this issue?

    What part don't you understand?
I have a trimmed clip that I detached the audio from. The portion of the video and the audio that is being displayed is a different part of the raw footage (<1 sec off).

  • Audio and video out of sync after import

I'm trying to bring some H.264 video into a Premiere project. But when I place it in a sequence (a sequence that is created based upon this very clip), the audio and video are about a second out of sync. (It's also odd: no amount of adjustment will bring them in sync. Seemingly the video is running at some variable rate that makes synchronization impossible...?)
As a test, I tried bringing my video into iMovie, and it works just fine there. But I don't want to use iMovie: I want to use Premiere.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks. Here's the output:

  • Audio and video out of sync after capture from Canon

Help for a newbie please?  I have a Canon XHA1S and have a problem after capturing HD video.  After capturing a 40 minute clip, the  audio and video are out of sync.  Seems like there is about a 3 second difference.  The entire clip is like that in the source window; I made a couple of quick edits and have the same problem in the program window.  Tried exiting and re-opening PP, but that didn't help.  I'm running PP in CS6 on an iMac 3.4 GHz i7 with 8G of ram.  Thanks!

I have NOT used it, but many say to try this for HDV capture http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm

  • Captivate 7 is not capturing system audio, and the software has a broken link

    The Problem:
Captivate 7 is not capturing system audio. When I start a screen recording, the line with "System Audio" and its checkbox are eternally grayed out. Next to the grayed out words is a link that says, "Why is this disabled?"
    The lnik goes to:  http://www.adobe.com/go/cpaudio
Which is not a valid link, so Adobe's site redirects me to blogs.adoble.com/captivate which is ZERO help. Both browsing and the search bar bring no answers.
    The Device:
Apple Macbook Air, Mid 2013, running OSX 10.9.2.
    What I've done already:
Obvsiously I have set Captivate 7's preferences to capture system audio, and have set System Settings -> Security and Privacy -> Privacy -> Accessibility to allow Captivate to control my computer.
I have also tried clicking the Mic icon, Selecting Source with the System Audio icon and that doesn't record system audio either. It acts like it is recording system audio, but when I stop recording I get a popup that says, "Cannot record system audio. Ensure that you are playing audio on your computer [Okay]"

    It's a wierd one.
One thing to try, and this fixes a lot of things, trash your preferences.

  • No audio in Ram Preview

Hi. I'll try and be a short and detailed as I can. After Effects CS5.5. Import an audio track or video containing audio and I cannot hear audio during playback after Ram Preview is created. I can hold the control key and scrub audio. Audio renders when I render the project. I can do an Audio Preview only, but I cannot seem to figure out how to see the graphics (which are animated to the audio itself) and hear the audio play back at the same time. This creates a unique problem when creating graphics which are timed to the audio. Do I really need to render the entire project every time I want to preview my work?
    Thanks...

Well let me try to give you the big picture (pun intended)
What you can't see here: I use a Bose 2.1 speaker system (not that that has any impact).
Audio renders fine, scrubs fine, I can do an audio preview fine but NEVER both an audio and video preview.

  • Generate/Reconcile problem: two types of Off-line Tables?

    Hi,
I have problem with Generate/Reconcile objects from Off-line Tables.
I have DB tables primarily defined as Off-line DB tables (creation and all changes I do with Off-line DB Tables). Sequentially I force changes to DB with option "Generate/Reconcile". So long as I created Off-line tables directly in JDeveloper, all was great.
Now, I want to simplify proces of creation off-line tables: I generate myself sql simple sql script (on the basis java-beans), apply to DB and after it import DB tables from DB to Off-line tables. Next I want to work as sooner, i.e. make fine changes on Off-line tables and "Generate/Reconcile" to DB.
But this second approach dosn't work. Off-line tables imported from DB shows in Table Information warning "This table has been imported from/or generated to a database. Changigng the Temporary Table property will affect your ability to reconcile it with that database". But what is important: Generate/Reconcile such Off-line table to DB faces alltimes to DROP table and CREATE table!!!!! So this is fully useless.
When I opex Off-line tables xml, other structure is for Off-line tables created in JDeveloper and imported from DB.
So how resolve this problem? How can I "transform" Off-line table imported from DB to Off-lina table created directly in JDeveloper?
    Notice 1: I have JDeveloper 10.1.3.2.0
Notice 2: When imported from DB, I imported table to another schema and another table-name, eg. SCHEMA1.NEW_TABLENAME to SCHEMA2.TABLENAME.
