Off premise smtp server

We were recently migrated to EOP from FOPE. We have a third party data center that hosts our corporate website. There is an smtp service there that sends out confirmation emails and such for various things on the website. Recently some recipient email systems
were generating NDRs for spf fail with the ip addr of the hosting service. I have added that addr to our spf record, but I'm wondering if this has something to do with our EOP migration.
I will get a closer look at this smtp service later today, but I'm wondering if it is maybe configured for messaging.microsoft.com as a smart host. I think FOPE was cancelled yesterday or the day before for us. IF I want to have this off premise smtp server
send to EOP as a smart host, what part of the Exchange online control panel do I configure that address? Is it a partner, inbound connection? I don't want to point the smtp to ourdomainname.mail.protection.outl
ook.com. and then have them all refused as that ip is not configured in our EOP panel yet.

Go to Settings > Mail, Calendars and Contacts > iCloud > Account > Mail > SMTP. There you can add additional SMTP servers and disable the iCloud server. I don't know how well that will work, though, since I haven't actually tried it.

    I keep getting message that e-mail can't be sent on my server [cox.net]  when I check it shows cox.net for outgoing mail is offline.  When I check act's, it shows cox.net as server for incoming mail.  For outgoing mail, ignored to fix my problem, I changed toIMAPcox.net.  Now I can't delete that to change back.  What should I do?  I am using Yosemite 10.10?  I think.

  • Using alternate SMTP server to MobileMe as default

    Original iPhone 8Gb, 2.0, Mobile Me
    I am attempting to set up my email on my phone so that it receives push email from MobileMe and defaults to a different SMTP server. I have been able to do this successfully on my MBPro, yet the iPhone is giving me fits.
    Here is my current settings:
    Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> MobileMe
    Mail = On
    Contacts = On
    Calendars = On
    Bookmarks = On
    Account Info ->
    Name = my name
    Address = [email protected]
    Password = *****
    Description = MobileMe
    Outgoing Mail Server
    SMTP = smtp.theserveriwanttouse.com
    Outgoing Mail Server ->
    Primary Server = smtp.me.com = Off
    Other SMTP Server ->
    smtp.theserveriwanttouse.com = On
    AT&T SMTP Server = Off
    Everything so far looks correct to me and it should work just fine. However, when I send an email it is received as [email protected] rather than [email protected]
    Does anyone have an idea of what settings I have wrong or why this doesn't work? I would really, really like to keep my MobileMe email secret and have all of my other email forwarded but if I can't figure this out then MobileMe isn't worth the $99 / year.
    Thanks for any help.

    The SMTP server used to send messages with an account alone does not change the email address shown as the sending email address for an account.
    What is shown as the name and sending email address for an account is determined by what is entered in the name and email address fields for the account settings.
    +Account Info ->+
    +Name = my name+
    +*Address = [email protected]*+
    +Password = *****+
    +Description = MobileMe+
    Apple prevents entering a different email address in the email address field for the account settings with a .Mac or MobileMe email account to appear as the sending email address for the account. Using a different SMTP server to send messages with the account should allow for this, but you must enter the email address that you want to appear as the sending email address in the email address field for the account settings. This may not work either. This restriction is part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from Apple's domain.

  • What is the AT&T smtp server for? The SSL is set to "off"

    I was looking around at my Mail settings on my iPhone and noticed there's an AT&T smtp server window. You access it my Settings/Mail Contacts Cal/one of your email accounts/SMTP server/. At the top is the smtp server for your email address which is on, and below are smtp server panes for your other email accounts which are set to off. But one of those smtp server panes is for the AT&T smtp. For what function is it used for? It's vreyed out but SSL set to OFF for the AT&T smtp and the Yahoo smtp, but all the other smtp's are set to ON for SSL.
    Isn't it better for the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to be on? Why is Yahoo's and AT&T's set to OFF. I can't find where to access a non-greyed out AT&T's smtp window pane.

    Also, the GSM encryption has been broken a long time ago, but someone whould have to sit between the phone and the basestation to capture and decode the traffic (or they must have access to the network operator's, so called, Legal Intercept interface).
    http://www.gsm-security.net/faq/gsm-a5-broken-security.shtml
    And, AFAIK, the GSM encryption is only in use on the wireless connection between the device and the basestation it is connected to (not on the operator's backbone network, and not when the traffic exits the operator's network and goes to the Internet outside, which it must, in order to get to SMTP servers not in the operator's machine rooms).
    And a last point: Even if you use SSL/TLS between the client and the SMTP server, it is not necessarily used from the SMTP server to the receiving email server (which might mean that the message travels through tens of systems unencrypted until it reaches its destination).

  • How do I delete multiple copies of a SMTP server under iOS 7.0.6 on an iPhone 5S?

    I have a conflict in trying to set up email using the iPhone mail application.  I had to change the password for the email account, which was done via the host's control panel.  I am able to send and receive mail (POP) via the computer and logging in through the provider webmail.  I have deleted the mail account multiple times on the iPhone and keep getting an user authentication error when setting up as new.
    The only was to fix this was to revert back to the password originally in use prior to the change.  The provider was watching the log files as I tried to change the settings on the iPhone and also was seeing the user authentication error when using a new password.  Once I changed it back to the old password, all worked fine.
    They think that because there are now multiple instances of the SMTP server listed, that the login is actually pulling the info from the old SMTP server info, even though all the others are turned 'off' in the settings.
    I can find no way to permanently delete all the instances of this SMTP server so that I can set the account up as totally new.
    How do I do this?
    Thanks.

    Are you sure they are on the device?  Sounds like they are just in iCloud. Do they have a cloud icon next to them?  If they do they aren't on your device and as such not taking up space.  If you don;t want to see them you can go to Settings->Videos->Show All Videos and turn it off. This will hide all your iCloud movies from the videos App. but again they aren't really on your device.

    Thanks.
    Unfortunately that's not something you can change. To see the titles you need to tap on the movie. I guess Apple assumes the cover art already has the name so there is no need to repeat it.

  • How do I change the primary SMTP server address on my iPhone DOT-MAC accoun

    My original account smtp settings were for dot-mac. I am having ever increasing problems getting mail to send. I can find the settings for my primary SMTP server, but cannot edit or update them (currently smtp.mac.com), as they are all gray'd out and cannot be changed. I would like to update these settings to smpt.me.com. Is it necessary for me to delete this account in order to update the settings? That seems rather lame.

    What did not work? You could not add an additional SMTP server? It does not matter what the primary is listed as....turn it off. Then turn on the additional server you added.
    Better yet remove your .mac account and add it back as .me account.

    How do I change my primary smtp server? I can delete all the old accounts I no longer use as email accounts, but the primary smtp server for the accounts I still use is still set as that for the old server. Not only is there nowhere to delete it, I can't even change it! There should at least be a button to take you to that page in the iOS6 settings somewhere easy to find, like IN the same place as where it is listed.
    Very annoying.

  • How to check whether a SMTP server is supporting Authentication or not

    Hi All,
    We are using Java Mail API 1.3.1/1.3.2 to send the messages. some of the SMTP servers that we use are supporting authentication and some of them are not.
    As the SMTPTransport.supportsAuthentication() is not available only in Java mail API 1.4.1, we are identifying the SMTP server whether it is supporting authentication or not in the following way.
    Socket clientSocket = null;
    InetSocketAddress socketAddress = null;
    OutputStream outStream = null;
    InputStream inStream = null;
    InputStreamReader inReader = null;
    OutputStreamWriter outWritter = null;
    try
    clientSocket = new Socket();
    socketAddress = new InetSocketAddress(host, port);
    clientSocket.connect(socketAddress, timeout*1000); // convert timeout from second to miliseconds
    // 1: now try to execute the given command by passing that on Out-Socket
    outStream = clientSocket.getOutputStream();
    outWritter = new OutputStreamWriter(outStream);
    outWritter.write("ehlo localhost" +"\n");
    outWritter.flush();
    // 2:Read output of above command
    inStream = clientSocket.getInputStream();
    inReader = new InputStreamReader(inStream);
    // This array limit would be fine to get "AUTH" extension of smtp server.
    char[] arr = new char[16384];
    StringBuilder strBuilder = new StringBuilder();
    inReader.read(arr);
    for(int i=0; i< arr.length; i++)
    strBuilder.append(arr);
    System.out.println(METHOD_NAME + "SMTP server response for ehlo localhost command ->"+strBuilder.toString());
    // The output EHLO command comes like below :
    // ehlo localhost
    // 250-ap9058pc.us.oracle.com Hello ap614ses.us.oracle.com [130.35.33.43], pleased to meet you
    // 250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES
    // 250-PIPELINING
    // 250-8BITMIME
    // 250-SIZE
    // 250-DSN
    // 250-ETRN
    // 250-AUTH GSSAPI DIGEST-MD5 CRAM-MD5 LOGIN PLAIN
    // Since for XATUH ( like internal IP),
    // we are not sure, so just checking for AUTH capability.
    supported = strBuilder.indexOf("250-AUTH") >=0? true : false;
    As shown in above code, we are issuing 'ehlo localhost' command to SMTP server, if the response i. 'strBuilder' contains '250-AUTH' then we are assuming that it is supporting authentication.
    But for one SMTP server the 'strBuilder' value is showing as '220 mail.durofelguera.com ESMTP Service (Lotus Domino Release 8.5.2) ready at Thu, 16 Feb 2012 13:57:20 +0100' only which is socket connection output but not 'ehlo localhost' command output.
    where as the telnet test output is showing correct only as below
    # telnet mail.durofelguera.com 25
    Trying 172.20.16.65...
    Connected to mail.durofelguera.com.
    Escape character is '^]'.
    220 mail.durofelguera.com ESMTP Service (Lotus Domino Release 8.5.2) ready

    ehlo localhost

    AUTH LOGIN
    The question is why the 'strBuilder' is not showing 'ehlo localhost' conad output where as the telnet test results are showing correctly, what is going wrong here?
    Is there any other way to check that whether SMTP server is supporting authentication or not?

    There are so many things wrong with your code, it's hard to know where to start...
    Basically, the problem is not as simple as you think it is.
    For example, some servers might not allow authentication until you've issued
    the STARTTLS command.
    These days, essentially all servers allow authentication. You're probably better
    off just assuming the server supports.

  • Can someone help me send mail using SMTP server?

    I am having the most frustrating problem with SMTP outgoing email account.  I use GoDaddy's Webmail (smtp.secureserver.net) and I receive all my emails through Apple Mail but I cannot send any.  I haven't been able to for about two weeks now, aside from 3 or 4 fleeting windows of time when I could.  Almost all of the time I try to send my emails, an error message says my outgoing account is offline.  I've been on the phone with GoDaddy's tech support three times this week and did everything we could think of, which include these steps:
    -Force Quit Apple Mail --> Restart Computer
    -Change Default Ports to a specific one and uncheck "Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)"
    -Check "Use only this server"
    -Delete account completely from Apple Mail and re-load (which I had to go into Time Machine to recover messages, and lots a bunch in the process ugh!)
    Nothing works!  I depend on this email for my business, and I rely heavily on Apple Mail for this account.  All of my other email accounts that I pull through Mail work fine, but of course they are not SMTP outgoing.  Please help...I feel like I've tried everything and nothing works permanently.

    At this point there are 2 possible causes to your problem:
    Apple Mail
    Connectivity between you and the SMTP server
    I can't help with (1) as I use Thunderbird as my mail client (the biggest advantage being I can take my mail files and move between different versions of Mac OS X). If you suspect that your problem is due to Apple Mail, then using another email client to send a test message will prove the point. If it works, then the problem lies with Apple Mail and somebody else will have to chip in. If it still fails, then there may be connectivity issue between you and the mail server.
    If you google "telnet smtp test" (without the quotes), you will find many articles showing you how to test an SMTP connection using telnet. Don't be put off by the fact that many of the articles assume you are running Windows. The only Mac bit you need to know is that telnet is a command line utility accessed via Terminal. The rest is generic.
    Telnet will allow you to interact with the mail server a line at a time and show you exactly what and where the problem is. If you get an unexpected response from the server, go back to GoDaddy and show them the output. If you don't get any response at all (i.e. "telnet smtpout.secureserver.net 25" just hangs), then take it up with your ISP as you are simply not getting through to the server.
    Good luck.

  • Finding proper smtp server for outgoing mail

    I added my school's e-mail account and i can receive mail just fine. I'm having trouble finding the right server name to send mail from that school address.
    Is there any general rule for what a server should be called, or is it specific and i need to find out from the school?

    There are not har and fast rules about naming of SMTP servers. Naming convention usually results in 'mail.yourdomain.com' or 'smtp.yourdomain.com' but the naming is just a preference of whoever set up the server. You generally need to ask your mail server administrator for the name and/or access information. There are some definite caveats that are likely going to affect you however --
    - Most mail admins do not allow SMTP access to their servers from off their network unless they've configured/enabled SMTP Authentication or some other way of verifying that you're really who you claim to be. Again, your mail system admin can let you know if they support this and how to configure Mail.
    - It is almost always acceptable to use the SMTP server of your ISP (comcast, bellsouth, etc) regardless of the POP/IMAP account you are checking. You do not need to use your @comcast or @bellsouth email address to send through those servers.
    - When in doubt about server settings, mail server admins would generally be happy with you contacting your local helpdesk or admins to be sure you're using the correct settings.

  • How do I set up the SMTP server on Lion

    Hello
    I want to use my OS X Lion server to send mail only (I use Rumpus FTP - which needs a SMTP server so that it can send notification emails)
    Is this possible to do with OS X Lion Server?  If so - how?
    Server is set up and running nicely, with DNS etc all running.
    Thanks,

    Hello Camelot
    Thank you for your reply.
    Is there a way of testing for sure that SMTP is set up and running, using say telnet??
    I've turned on mail and entered my server domain name, port 25 into the email settings of my Rumpus client (so that it can send notification emails - it also happens to be running on the same server, so I tried localhost and 127.0.0.1 as well but no sucess.
    I have not entered authentication credentials, but turned off authentication using Server Admin.

  • More than 1 smtp server for out going mail

    I am working off-site and need to send email from my Mail accounts. I am also connecting wireless. I can receive mail but cannot send.
    Can I have more than one smtp server for an account?
    Or do I need a separate account for this situation?

    i had the same problem, i changed port# from 25 to 587, i think it was, & sent e again,it won't send it so i change back to 25 & send then it worked. In mail under help on menu bar it said i.s.p's sometimes shut down port 25 for junk mail reason's,so it could be temporary.

  • Can't Send Mail Via HughesNet SMTP Server

    After installing 10.5 I find that I can receive mail from my ISP (HughesNet) but I can't send mail through the smtp server. I've tried every setting possible and even duplicated the settings off my wife's 10.4.10 iMac and I still can't send mail. All I see is that the smtp service is "Offline."
    Fortunately, I have a .Mac account so I can send mail using that smtp server. But I'd like to be abel to use my HughesNet server.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    My mom uses RoadRunner by Time Warner. She was able to receive email using Leopard and Mail but not send. SMTP server was the big problem like everyone else here experienced. We finally were able to get it to work using many ideas here. What we did:
    1) Delete com.apple.mail.plist from the User/Library/Preferences folder (BACK UP YOUR EMAIL FIRST)
    2) Open Mail and create a new account but disable the automatic set-up feature, put your info in manually.
    3) Uncheck " Use only this server" from the outgoing mail
    4) Under the Advanced tab on Mail Prefs "port set to 25", Uncheck "SSL" box, and uncheck "Use Authentication"
    5) Now hit Create
    It took Mail about 20 minutes to contact the SMTP server, but it did and now I can send and receive Mail without any problems on her computer.
    Bad Apple...stop criticizing MS and Vista when your own house is not in order yet. Hope this helps someone out there.....

    how do i get an additional SMTP server host?

    Can we start again.. My site is now online, I couldn't wait any longer because I need it for my buisness so I got rid of the code that wasn't working.
    But I still need a rollover text to appear so..
    1) I go into the code snippets and add a mouse over event
    2) In my actionscript I add your text: yourtextfield.text = "whatever text you want to show";
    So do I make an empty text field first, give it a name and replace "yourtextfield" with the name?
    Or do I replace "whatever text you want to show" with my text and thats just it?
    Or both?
    Or am I way off?
