Off-the-shelf graphics cards... any luck with Lion?

I've been hearing online ramblings about Lion being compatible with some off-the-shelf graphics cards and Wikipedia says the Radeon 6XXX HD cards are compatible, but has anybody tried any cards that aren't clearly labeled as Mac compatible?  I know, I know, only the "Made for Mac" cards are supposed to work but I'm hearing too much online to be satisfied with that response at this point.
The GT 120 is just tired and I want the power of the 5870, but $400+ feels unfair.  I know it's only been out for a day, but I'm already itching to hear if anybody has tried anything new with Lion.

Tried a XFX HD 4670 Radeon. Once booted everything works fine. Here are my findings:
No boot up screen (therefore ability to change start up drive) expected based on other discussions
The card seems to think that I have a second monitor connected - and I was not able to find a way to make it think otherwise.
Overall the card was speedy and boosted my xbench and geekbench scores - but for now I am back to my GT120..

  • Is there any off the shelf credit card enryption/decrption tool available ?

Since, Credit Card (CC) processing is very critical , my company is looking for options which are available in the market -ready to use !!!
Is there any off the shelf credit card enryption/decrption tool available ?

    What is "credit card encryption/decryption"?
    1) Are you willing to encrypt and decrypt credit card numbers in a safe way, to store them in a database?
    - JCE and crypto
    2) Are you willing to communicate with the credit card companies to perform credit card transactions in a safe way?
    - Contact them; there are third-party companies that sell solutions for communicating with Visa, Mastercard etc; the credit card company can tell you what company they recommend
    3) Are you trying to validate the credit card numbers (no online processing needed, just validate the card numbers in Javascript)
    - search for Luhn's algorithm

  • Off the shelf XY gantry system controlled with LabView

I am looking for an XY gantry system that I can easily control from labview.  I need a workspace of 11 by 16 inches with minimum clearance of 6 inches.  I was wondering if anyone has used a commercially available XY gantry or has any experience with an XY gantry.
I have found these two tables/brands that already have LabView drivers
    http://www.zaber.com/products/product_detail.php?detail=G-LSQ450D450D&tab=Series%20Features#tabs
    http://www.techno-isel.com/tic/Catdas/Gantry3.htm
And this one that looks promising too
    http://www.animatics.com/en/products/table-top-robot/animatics/table-top-robot/2-axis-ttr-xy-configu...
Both Zaber and Techno Linear do not know of anyone in my area (Loveland, Colorado or Denver area) that I could go visit to see a table and I would like to see a working system before making a decision to buy a new system. I have not been able to talk to an engineer/technical sale representative at Animatics yet.
I am looking at using the XY gantry to position a sensor over a tray of parts to measure some properties of the parts.  The system I am designing does not need an high accuracy table (+- 0.005" is fine).  I would prefer to spend about $10K for a XY gantry table including any required controllers and hardware.
    Thanks,
    Brian

You have a good start, but 2 other things that you need to consider are your load and speeds required.  This will determine the mechanics of the gantry(ball screw, acme screw, belt, bearing type, etc.).  It will also determine if you need servos or you can get away with steppers.  You then need to figure what kind of motion you need.  Point to point moves can be accomplished with non-interpolated controllers, but any kind of coordinated motion will need a motion controller that can do true interpolated motion.

  • Any luck with graphics cards on the advanced dock?

Looking for some advice on which graphics card to purchase for use with the Lenovo advanced dock. I've tried - unsuccessfully - to use the ATI Radeon HD 3650 from VisionTek. The dimensions were right and the card fits, but I'm having no luck getting it to work.
Has anyone gotten this or another ATI graphics card to work with the advanced dock? There is very little documentation on this. Do I have to downgrade the graphics card to the X1300? The HD 3650 has a better spec, incl 512Mb vs 256Mb on the X1300.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
    -Roel.

I have a T61p with the FX570 internal card, 4Gb RAM, 80Gb HDD, running Windows Vista 64 bit Ultimate edition.  Since Vista (64) will only support one video driver, I had to remove the X1300 that I had in the dock for XP Pro (32).  So I bought the FX570 (PNY VCQFX570-PCIE-PB 256M RT ) from NewEgg and dropped it in.  In Vista, I had to delete the internal card from Device Manager and reinstall the Driver Suite from Nvidia.  The Suite picked up both cards and I chose to use the Dock as primary.  I did not have to change ANY BIOS settings, I left those alone.  I used the card's CD to load the drivers, NOT Lenovo's.  I do not use the NVidia Control Panel to change any settings, just Vista's Adapter Properties.  Both monitors are running at full res (1920x1200 @ 32bit), both are DVI connected and both are 24" Dell's.
    * I ran the exact same setup in Windows XP, with the execption of FX570, with no issue at all.*
    * When you install the card in the dock, you will need to "tweak" it in the slot to move the fan away from the underside of the dock.  If you don't the on-board fan will contact the dock and make a heck of a racket!*

  • Will be the NVIDIA GeForce 620M graphic card be compatible with any of Adobe Premiere series?

Recently I adquired the GeForce 620M graphic card, trying to resolve a problem with my Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 software (Premiere suddenly stopped working, and the only problem was the graphic card, the NVIDIA GeForce 210 series I used to have).
In order to fix that, I buyed the 620 series, but in the Compatibilities page of Adobe (http://www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/products/premiere/cs6/pdfs/c ompatibiltiy-list-premiere-pro-cs6-only-hw-compatibility.pdf), in any of the Premiere series, CS4, CS5, CS5.5, CS6..., appears the 620M graphic card, so my cuestion is if the card is too recent to admit Premiere Pro.
    Regards.

Employees and beta test people are not allowed to comment on any future Adobe plans
Any card will work with CS4 to send the display to the computer monitor
Hardware acceleration using CUDA cores is only available for CS5 and later
The official list is only updated as Adobe has staff time to completely test & certify any individual nVidia card... For many others, with at least 1Gig of video ram, use the nVidia Hack http://forums.adobe.com/thread/629557 - which is a simple entry in a "supported cards" file... again, this is ONLY for CS5 and later

Ask in the Premiere forum. On a more general level, though, CS4 will never be officailly supported, only current versions, if at all.

  • How do I use the secondary graphics card on a mac book pro with retina display?

I know that this is kind of a stupid question but I am new to dual graphics cards and this is the first mac that I have ever had, so I don't understand how you use the 2nd graphics card. When I click on the apple logo and go to about it shows the Intel Graphics HD 4000, but I know that they put an Nvida in here to so how do I access that? Because it has a lot more graphic power than the intel does.

Try opening iPhoto and then consulting the More Info... item. That app will cause an autoswitch to the big GPU.
Same will happen with any other app that requires that kind of display driving power.

  • Off the shelf Flash chart with live update and slider?

Does anyone know of any good off the shelf Flash line chart
    that has
    1. Live AJAX-type update of data (without reloading entire
    Flash chart)
    2. Horizontal axis slider to be able to zoom in (like the
    time slider on Google Finance)
    I have been using
    XML/SWF
chart chart but find that its live update is clunky.
Is doing a custom chart our best bet?

    Hi,
it was a bug, corrected in patch 4.0.1 (bug 9868860), see http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/application-express/401-patch-166923.html#BABJCAFA.
It's why it don't works with APEX 4.0.0.

  • Disabling the integrated graphics card or updating any software they use that will aid the computer in switching between the two graphics chips.

So I couldn't activate Assassin's Creed 3 on bootcamp which I shuold have been able todo. I posted it on Ubistoft Support and This is what I got!
    Hello ,
It looks like your DXDiag report is showing only an integrated graphics card. Being an Apple computer with an i7, it should have a dedicated video card as well. You may need to contact Apple support so they can help you either disable the integrated graphics card or update any software they use that will aid the computer in switching between the two graphics chips.
So I was wondering how I could disable the intergrated grahics card or update any software that will aid the ocmputer in switching between the two graphic chips.

The Early 2011 13-inch MacBook Pro has only got one graphic card, and this is the integrated card, Intel HD Graphics 3000.
Some games don't support this type of GPUs, and it looks like Assassin's Creed is one of them, so unfortunately, you can't run the game in this MacBook

  • Any luck with a 3.1.3 fix? Aside from the one(s) that have yet to work

Any luck with 3.1.3 anyone? I am captive to a wi-fi connection and its getting really annoying not being able to use the 3g service when I leave my house. The solution(s) provided so far have done nothing to fix the problem. This is in regards to apps crashing and no internet service while on the iphone 3g network.

I have tried all the fixes suggested multiple times then went to apple store and the guy told me I should buy a new phone? Just hoping the issue isn't dead as it still seems to be a problem for some, lots of threads about it still being reported as an issue.

  • Radeon HD 5770 graphics card works perfectly with my MAC Pro 1,1 and Adobe CS6. However, Photoshop CC won't read the card drivers and says I need to reinstall them and disabled 3D funtions as a result. Anyone else with this issue?

Radeon HD 5770 graphics card works perfectly with my MAC Pro 1,1 and Adobe CS6. However, I upgraded to Adobe CC and Photoshop CC disabled some filters and 3D functionality. The preference panel for Performance/Graphics Card in Photoshop CC is greyed out and inaccessible and shows this message -
"Photoshop detected an error in your display driver. Update or reinstall the driver and check Use Graphics Processor to retry."
I still have Photoshop CS6 installed and it still works perfectly. Anyone else with this issue? Is there a driver update for this compatable with my setup?
    OS 10.7.5
    Mac Pro 1,1
    20gb ram
ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Card
    30" Apple Cinema HD display

after going round with this Adobe was able to find the fix....opened the "show content" folder for the application Photoshop CC (control click on the application folder) and navigate to the sniffer file and rename it by putting a tilda ~ in front of the name..." ~sniffer ", close and open PhotoshopCC...and voila, problem solved... Thankyou Adobe support

There are actually two graphic cards in the system, the one you show in your post and one part of the motherboard.
This is done on laptops to help save battery, when the system does need need high performance graphics, when it is doing text it uses the integrated graphics card, when it needs to do high performance graphics like when running Aperture it switches to the other card.
It is possible something is wrong with your system preventing it from switching.  What OS version are you running, is it really 10.6.4?
See MacBook Pro: How to determine which graphics processor is in use to determine which GPU is in use. But if it is not switching you most likely have a hardware problem.

  • What's the best graphic card i can update my 1.8Ghz G5 to?

Any advice on the best graphic card i could update too (AGP x8 slot i think)? I've had a hard time finding out my available wattage on my power supply (not listed in About This Mac menu). The ATI Radeon X1900 looks good but i can't find any compatability sites for my Mac. I'm thinking around the $200-300 dollar range. I need something to help me get by while i save up for a new mac next year...I need to be able to run all the latest Final Cut & Motion apps. Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks.

Best graphic card for your model is the nVidia Geforce 6800 Ultra DDL which is plenty fast for Aperture and Motion and can support two 30" displays.
Second best option is the ATI X800 XT for Power Mac G5 and the 6800 Ultra GT model - both of these can drive only one 30" display.
Forget about the ATI 9600 XT and 9800 XT. I've upgraded from the ATI 9600 to the Geforce 6800 Ultra and I'm glad to have even found one on the market. My scrolling and viewing thru large photos don't lag and I don't have to wait for things to be rendered.
With the price point you are budgeting, I doubt you will find one on the market. I ordered from We Love Macs an ATI X800 two weeks ago and they led me to believe they had one in stock when I spoke to a person. Then when my order went thru I was told they only have it on order and cannot tell me exactly when. In fact I also have on order until now from JR.com another X800 for months already and all they do is just say my order is delayed.
I gave up and bought from eBay instead. The way these cards are even available for our extinct model, I doubt they will produce more.
The cards above are getting rare and unless they find a boatload hiding somewhere all along they will never go down in price. So if you keep holding off like I did, all I saw was prices going up.
eBay has one on sale right now for the Geforce 6800 Ultra DDL for USD400. With only one on sale, I don't think it will last long at that price. When that's gone, you can go the WeLoveMacs route for the same card which they are selling for USD799.95.

  • What's the best graphics card without upgrading PSU?

I know the K430 JU has a wimpy 280 watt power supply. I don't want to go through hassle of replacing the PSU, due to I won't be able to have the front lights or the top speed shifter working.
However, I might be interested in getting a better graphics card. Considering the power supply, what's the best graphics card I could use that wouldn't make the system overheat?

Go here and enter your system details, followed by adding in a graphics card in the range you might like.
If the wattage is too high, keep decreasing the card specs until you get something that falls in the range of 200-240W.
After this, you must check the requirements of the card. Make sure that the +12V rail has enough amperage for your card. My 280W PSU has 18A on +12V.
It would be better if you upgrade the PSU to a good branded one, as it would be more hassle with a new video card that refused to run because of an inadequate power supply.Replacing the PSU is quite straightforward, and will save you a lot of problems in the long run.
The P9 connector is responsible for supplying power to the speedshifter. You could maybe find an adapter, but I'm not sure. By default, turbo is set to AUTO so you shouldn't notice any differences playing in game.

  • Error: The installed graphics card does not meet the minimum system requirements by Aperture

I have a Mac Pro 3.1 10.5.8 and Aperture 2.1.4.  My NVida 8800gt with 512 mb was over heating so I brought and install the ATI radeon hd 5770 to replace it.  Now when I try to start Aperture I get this message "Error: The installed graphics card does not meet the minimum system requirements by Aperture".  All other software works fine, ie photoshop elements and Safari.  When I install my old card aperture will open with no problem, but of course the card will overheat within 10 mins and I will have no video.  I have search on google with no luck.  Will upgrading to Aperture 3 fix this problem?

    5770 requires 10.6.5.
The 8800GT - there is the 350* bake in over 10 minutes - 50% or better chance
you can find 8800GT on http://myworld.ebay.com/macvidcards/

    http://www.bresink.com/osx/HardwareMonitor.html
