Off the top of anyone's head, is H.264/MPEG-4 AVC safe for editing?

Hi. My Samsung MX20 camcorder outputs as MP4, and I tried converting it to AVI because I thought that there would be more trimming tools for AVI. I tried probably 3 or more MP4 to AVI converters, and all AVI ouputs never played properly in Elements. I had the following 2 problems happen to me that have been addressed already in the forums:

In addition to these 2 things, I got random stuttering with other AVI files.
I couldn't figure out how to trim and export with VirtualDub without blowing up the size, so I gave up on that. I recently found good MP4 cutting software, such as Yamb, so I thought I was good. But after testing it out, the sync was off. I tried other splitting software, but there were problems also with the MP4 that was output.
I’ve decided to not convert, split, or touch the original MP4s.

I downloaded the K-lite codec pack and ffdshow, but my windows media player doesn’t play the camcorder files, which I don’t’ mind, because VLC and Quicktime do. The camcorder files play in Elements 7, but I think there’s some choppiness that is due to my slow computer.
I was just wondering if H.264/MPEG-4 AVC is a red flag in the same way that Divx and Xvid are.
I saw a description of a Sanyo Xacti VPC-E camcorder that outputs as AVC/H.264 also, and that product comes bundled with Elements 4. 7 should be compatible right?

I probably shouldn’t post since the original MP4s play, but I’m just wondering if this type (H.264/MPEG-4 AVC) may be problematic later on.

I can't find any evidence in the specs for this camcorder that is shoots in AVCHD video.
From the specs it appears that the camcorder shoots standard-def video. Beyond that, the specs are pretty vague, so I have to take your word for it that it saves video as MP4s.
Unfortunately, if it is not saving to the AVCHD standard, the video is not likely to be compatible with Premiere Elements and you will not be able to edit it without converting it to a more standard format, like DV-AVI. This could well explain why you are experiencing the other challenges you describe.
The FAQs to the right of our forum describe how to convert to DV-AVIs. Super, which is free, may work -- but Quicktime Pro, which costs $29 from Apple.com, definitely will.

Sorry, Peter. I cannot. When I click to capture the screen, the palette disappears. Perhaps I can better describe it: when I wish to select a text color, I used to get a drop down palette. Now the palette is "dropping up," so it disappears off the top of my screen. I have to click into it to get it to drop down so I can see it. So, every time I want to pick a text color, I now have this extra step to deal with.
It started suddenly, seemingly out-of-the-blue.

Thanks a TON! That worked well. It took me a bit longer to key it because the keyer didn't key out all of the color to black as well with the compound clip but I was able to make it happen. Video is up and I appreciate the help!

HI! My HP psc 950 all-in-one is printing half the page....cuts off the top portion of what I am printing. Not sure what happened to the printer. Came home one day and the printing wasn't the same. Possibly the kids could have fiddled with it but no one is owning up to it. Any solution to get the printer printing normal again?

Safari 8 Cuts off the top of every web page

Ok, so I'm looking for a solution or I want to know if other people are having the same problem so hopefully apple will fix it.
As my title says, Safari 8 in Mac OS X Yosemite is cutting off the top of every web page while in full screen. Not just a few, every single one, and it only does it in full screen. It only started after I updated to Mac OS X 10.10.1, it was fine with the original release of 10.10. Any takers?

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

gedwardc, what is the size that you are trying to scan? Is it a legal document or a normal letter sized document? Has it worked before, and this is a recent developement?
I want you to do hard reset in the meantime, so unplug the machine from both the back of the unit and the wall outlet for thirty second, and then plug it back in.

Printing PDF's in Legal Size cuts off the top and bottom. How do I fix that

When I am saving a document to a PDF under the print section. I don't seem to be able to get it to print a lgal size document properly. It cuts off the top and the bottom. I also have this problem when I print a legal document as well. any suggestions?

Windows 8, Lightroom 5.6. When i enable filters to search. It cuts off the top 160 images. These images are NOT included in the search!!

Even when there are as little as 6 images it does not include the first 4 images.
I found this when I was searching a particular ISO. It did not show in the metadata search. I knew there were over 60 images at that ISO.
I tried a text search, it did not work either. The top 160+ images were left out.
Also it renumbered the images. My image number was #163 but Lightroom said it was #1.
In Windows 7 Enterprise, Lightroom 5.6 worked perfectly.

We'll need more detail to figure out what's going on. While we could play twenty questions, the most efficient way to troubleshoot this is to start out by posting a full-resolution screen shot of your LR window.

It mostly depends on the camera. Some cameras have a Transfer Mode, which does not attempt to charge while transferring pictures. does yours have such a setting?
Alternatively you can try to plug a powered USB hub between the camera and the USB connector so the power is provided by the HUB rather than the iPad.
Other than that, yes the Memory card reader may be a better option assuming your Camera uses Secure Digital (SD) type memory cards.

Fluxbox - windows open with titlebar off the top edge of the screen

On my EEEpc 701, in fluxbox, when i open an app, its window opens with the title bar off the top edge of the screen. I think this is probably a stupid question, but is there a way to fix this? I assume there's a setting in xorg.conf, but I can't seem to find it.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: command+Shift+F).
If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.
You can click the Maximize button at the top right to leave full screen mode or right click empty space on a toolbar and use "Exit Full Screen Mode" or press F11.

Well the term "hotlined" I have never heard before. In any case many states (like NY) just passed regulatory powers to the State Public Service Commission of which it may be called something different in your state. You could file a complaint with them. Or file a complaint with your state attorney generals office, they also take on wireless providers.
The problem here is the staff you speak to are poorly trained, in days gone by it took one call to them and they pulled up your account and see the error and had the authority to remove any errors. They did not remove legitimate account actions, but used their heads instead of putting a customer off or worse lying to the customer.
Its a shame you have to go through what you going through.

If you are having issues with the functions keys, then check the settings in System Preferences > Keyboard and look to see if Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys is unchecked so you can use it properly.

Has anyone cut off the top "Handles" to make case shorter?

I am considering placing a Mac Pro under a desk with limited vertical clearance- has anyone modified the case by cutting of the top handles to make the unit smaller vertically? Assume this would void all warranties..

Kenneth are you crazy bonkers? If you really have to why not pop down to your local Ikea store and purchase a cheap and cheerful desk that will hold the Mac Pro instead of putting the angle grinder to your computer? Or better still get some MDF from your local DIY store and make your desk a little bit taller? Surely that would be easier and safer than undertaking sheet metal work? Only joking.
On a serious note, I would also imagine that vibration and/or heat generated by cutting off the handles would risk the delicate internals of the computer.
By all means why not cut them off, especially if the desk is an antique or worth more than the computer.

I assume you have made sure the hold switch along the top of the Nano is set to Off?
If none of the 5 R's are able to resolve the issue, it's likely a hardware issue, meaning you'll need to have the iPod serviced/replaced either by Apple or a third party service.
